SIXTH FORM AGE 16+

HEAD OF SIXTH FORM INTRODUCTION

Welcome

Istrongly believe that the Sixth Form should be the most exciting and enriching part of a pupil’s time at Chigwell. I hope that this prospectus gives a sense of the opportunities and experiences available here.

When our pupils move from Year 11 into Year 12 at Chigwell we want them to step up on every level: academically, socially and personally. They will be surrounded by people and structures to help them do this – and most importantly of all to be happy while they are here.

Our Sixth Formers are the epitome of Chigwell’s ‘find a way or make a way’ ethos. We encourage them to lead by deed and word, be it organising House and School activities or creating their own clubs and societies.

We take an active and enthusiastic interest in advising prospective Sixth Formers and their families on their A Level choice before they arrive with us because we know how centrally important this is to their subsequent direction and success.

We deliver a wide-ranging co-curricular Enrichment programme. Pupils are offered a range of elective courses designed to give everyone something to challenge and interest them beyond the A Level curriculum and to give them that extra bit of help with challenging university course entry preparation.

We make sure that they are as well-informed about their next steps as they possibly can be. Throughout the Lower Sixth year in Year 12, we equip our pupils with the confidence of a clear understanding of the university application process, as well as introducing them to what is available overseas, and the advantages and challenges of competitive degree apprenticeships. Our pupils hear from a range of professional external speakers as well as former pupils who speak from recent personal experience.

In the Sixth Form as in the rest of the school, our ‘success criteria’ isn’t just grades, but the adult they are going to become in ten, twenty or thirty years. Sport, music, drama and the sweeping range of our extra-curricular offering are opportunities we encourage our pupils not just to take part in, but now as Sixth Formers to lead.

If there are any questions about our Sixth Form at any time, we are always keen to help, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

A SENSE OF PURPOSE WITH A SENSE OF ENJOYMENT

Community of Kindness

Chigwell

is a special place. Set within 100 acres on the edge of Epping Forest, our site offers outstanding views of the City of London. Our buildings reflect our rich heritage and forward-looking spirit; from the original 1629 school room to the new Sport and Wellness Centre. We welcome pupils aged 4 to 18, from local familities to international boarders, creating a vibrant and diverse school community.

We value variety and we want our pupils to make the most of the opportunities that are offered – be they academic, sporting, musical, dramatic, and so on – and to undertake all that they do with a sense of purpose, and enjoyment. It can be truly said that purpose, enjoyment, and happiness underpin what we are about. Our pupils achieve outstanding outcomes at every stage of their school career, yet enjoy their journey to these achievements, and leave with a huge sense of pride in being Chigwellians.

The warmth of our community is something that seems to strike all those who set foot in the school, and we are eager to stress that this community is rooted in a sense of kindness. We value one another, we look out for one another, and we enjoy the company of one another.

Whenever I speak to colleagues or pupils about teaching and learning at Chigwell, I speak of three key areas: a sense of purpose upon entering the classroom; a readiness to ask and

answer difficult questions; and a desire to build relationships in every setting and at every stage of a school career. We truly believe that with these in place, academic success, combined with enjoyment and satisfaction, will follow.

This is an exciting time for Chigwell. We are nearing our 400th anniversary, and in preparing to celebrate this milestone, we have identified three themes that will guide our development: Wellbeing, Excellence, and Service. Wellbeing demonstrates our commitment to our pupils’ happiness and mental health; Excellence highlights our commitment to helping our pupils’ successful outcomes; Service reflects our aim to prepare our pupils to be part of society and contribute beyond the school gates.

We are proud of all that we offer across the many areas of school life, and we look forward to welcoming you to Chigwell, and to showing you what we are about.

HEADS OF SCHOOL Zara & Raheel

Hello,my name is Raheel and I’m the Head of School. I joined Chigwell in September, and I remember it being a completely new experience, quite different from anywhere else I’ve been. The nerves were quickly swept away as everyone was so genuinely kind and supportive, and I could really feel that Chigwell was a “Community of Kindness”. Teachers take time to make sure we understand difficult content, even if it means visiting them outside of lessons. Studying with friends means that we learn collaboratively, and that A Levels don’t always feel like a chore. I have also

Hi,

my name is Zara and I am the Deputy Head of School. As a pupil who has been at Chigwell School since Year 7, the school as well as the teachers have helped to shape who I am today. The school has allowed me to find what I love doing outside of academics and has given me numerous opportunities to thrive. In Year 12, I ran a debating society in which I could explore my interests in public speaking as well as debating real world issues in a safe environment with my peers. This society was a highlight of my Year 12 experience as I was able to make new friendships, enjoy my life at school in a productive way and take time to relax without the pressure of A Levels. This is what the Chigwell Sixth Form does best, it provides opportunities for all pupils to become more involved and explore their passions and interests with their peers outside of their subjects. Whilst debating may not be everyone’s forte, numerous other societies have been created by Year 12 pupils such as psychology society, feminist society and many more. Through all of our House events we are encouraged to

enjoyed the many extra curriculars at Chigwell, including cricket and Model United Nations, but pupils here are also successful musicians, actors, footballers and so much more.

I feel that Chigwell strikes a balance between academic rigour and extra-curricular involvement and the school’s resources ensure that all areas of a pupil’s life are sufficiently supported. Chigwell prides itself on nurturing its pupils academically and creating wellrounded individuals with a life long love for learning.

participate in various events such as House music, House netball, House chess or my personal favourite House history. No matter what their interests may be, Chigwell offers every pupil the opportunity to explore, grow, and thrive.

Chigwell Sixth Form has been an incredible experience with immense support from teachers, such as our Head of Sixth Form and Head of Year, who have supported me through a stressful year. All the teachers at Chigwell are dedicated to their pupils and always push for pupils to be the best they can be and to have the greatest chance at success. There are various teachers who specialise in specific areas for future careers who set up groups to prepare for external examinations such as the LNAT or the UCAT. This is a major part of our Sixth Form as the teachers take a vital role in not only academics but also in our wider success and prepare us for everything we will have to face when we leave. Without the support from my teachers, I believe that I would struggle immensely. The dedication of all of my teachers has been essential to my progress this year.

Recent Leavers

Our alumni are the heart of our legacy. As they leave Chigwell School filled with knowledge, friendships, and unforgettable memories, we take immense pride in watching them flourish in the world beyond. Their achievements inspire our current pupils

and reflect the strength of our community. While they go on to make their mark, we are always delighted to welcome them back whether to share their journeys, mentor the next generation, or simply to reconnect.

Once a part of our family, always a part of our story.

“Having attended Chigwell from ages 7 to 18, I’m incredibly grateful for the wide range of curricular and extracurricular opportunities it offered. More than anything, Chigwell was a strong, supportive community that taught me initiative and fostered lifelong friendships. Though my time as a pupil has ended, the network continues; with retired staff, former Deputy Headmaster, David Gower, and Geography teacher and Housemaster, Jerry Morris, still meeting Old Chigwellians at universities across the UK to check in and offer advice. We’re all deeply thankful for their continued support.”

“Teachers are the best support system you could ask for – they have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goal of securing my place at Oxford University.”

Overview of the Sixth Form Curriculum

Our aim is that our Sixth Formers leave us ready to be happy and successful young adults. The characteristics of our education that have served so many Chigwellians well since 1629 continue to be just as relevant today. We believe that academic ambition and being a rounded, sensitive and emotionally mature individual should go hand-in-hand.

Sixth Formers typically take three A Levels as we feel this provides the best grounding for university applications and undergraduate study. Further Maths can be studied as a fourth A Level subject. Our pupils study these for 13 lessons over a fortnight. Successful A Level study places an emphasis on independent work, and there is a marked increase in homework volume compared to GCSE. Our departments offer clinics for extra reinforcement, and we encourage and expect Sixth Formers to avail themselves of these. In addition, Extended Project

Qualification (EPQ) is optional and forms part of our enrichment structure. Our pupils are matched to a supervisor who oversees and supports their projects.

All pupils participate in our Games programme on Wednesday afternoons. Physical Activity, be it football, hockey, swimming, or in the gym, is an essential part of who we are.

Pupils in Year 12 follow an enrichment programme, and throughout their time in the Sixth Form we deliver a series of Wellbeing (PSHE) sessions designed to get them ready for life after school by addressing the most relevant questions to their age group.

Enrichment Curriculum

Webelieve it’s not just what happens in A Levels that sets our senior Chigwellians apart. We take a holistic and wide-ranging approach to enrichment which we feel is an essential part of a high-achieving and happy Sixth Form experience.

Our Lower Sixth Enrichment Curriculum comprises a broad elective course programme covering areas of academic and personal development. Pupils are free to choose from a wide array of subjects and skills - from literary appreciation to sports coaching - encouraging exploration beyond their A Level studies. This freedom fosters intellectual curiosity and personal growth, which are qualities highly valued by universities and employers.

Alongside the electives, our Wellbeing (PSHE) curriculum is carefully structured around half-termly themes that

reflect the evolving concerns and needs of our pupils. These begin with Independence and Responsibility and progress through Communication, Community, Future, Exam Readiness and UCAS Readiness. Enrichment activities are thoughtfully coordinated to complement these themes, creating a cohesive and responsive programme.

We make extensive use of experienced external speakers and professionals to ensure our Sixth Formers receive the most current and relevant advice. The curriculum also includes dedicated support for pupils undertaking an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), as well as tailored electives for those considering careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science (MDV), and preparing for university admissions tests. These assessments, often required for competitive undergraduate courses, typically take place between August and January of Year 13.

“Pupils demonstrate outstanding attitudes toward their learning and achievement ”

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE 2023

Super-Curriculum

Super-curriculum refers to academic endeavour beyond the curriculum, something that most competitive university courses expect. We encourage Sixth Formers who are interested in this pathway to read and think beyond their A Level specifications. Our enrichment programme is a central part of this, as are our annual internal school essay competitions; the Howard and Mitchell.

Our Year 12 pupils are actively encouraged to take the lead in running their own clubs and societies, giving them the freedom to explore their interests with minimal staff

oversight. Last year’s student-led debating club was a particular highlight, attracting widespread participation and enthusiasm.

Across the school, departments regularly enter national subject Olympiads and academic challenges, and we strongly support pupils who wish to take part in external competitions on an individual basis. These opportunities foster initiative, deepen subject knowledge, and help pupils develop confidence beyond the classroom.

“Due to its camaraderie, music has earned itself the nickname ‘the fifth House’. ”

Co-Curriculum

Chigwell’s vibrant co-curricular scene is a huge part of our identity, and we want our Sixth Formers to play a leading role. We believe that co-curricular involvement nurtures the interpersonal skills essential for both personal fulfilment and professional success. Our House system provides a special opportunity for older pupils to lead the teams and events that regularly punctuate the school calendar.

Our Duke of Edinburgh programme sees Sixth Formers successfully achieve their Gold Award every summer, a testament to their commitment and resilience. Our cocurricular life in sport, music, and drama is vibrant and well-established, offering pupils countless opportunities to

get involved and shine beyond the classroom. Furthermore, Sixth Formers also set up and run their own clubs and societies, which in recent years have included journalism, biomedical science, feminism, and Japanese cinema.

These offerings evolve each year, reflecting the passions of the pupils who lead them, which is just the way we like it.

At Chigwell we offer a huge range of residential visits too.

In recent years our Sixth Formers have visited Iceland (Geography), CERN in Geneva (Physics), New York (English), Paris (Computer Science) as well as Switzerland (skiing). The whole Lower Sixth cohort is invited on an activities trip to the Lake District every June.

A Level Results 2024

“Academic attainment is excellent, and pupils make excellent progress.”

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE 2023

A Level Excellence

We continue to celebrate outstanding academic achievement. This success reflects the dedication, resilience, and ambition of our pupils, supported by a nurturing and academically rigorous environment.

In 2024, 23% of all A Level grades awarded were A*, 58% were A*-A, and an impressive 85% were A*-B. A significant number of pupils achieved top individual results, with 4% securing at least three A* grades, 10% earning four or more A grades, and one third attaining three A grades or higher. In addition to their A Levels, many undertook the EPQ, with 86% achieving A* or A. This highlights their ability to engage in independent research and critical thinkingskills highly valued by universities and employers alike.

Among the many individual successes, one pupil achieved one of the highest marks in the UK for OCR English Literature and is currently studying English and History at the University of Oxford. Other pupils have accepted

offers from leading institutions including Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL, King’s College London, Durham, Warwick, and the Royal College of Music. Some have headed overseas to study in New York, Paris and Rome, while others are pursuing degree apprenticeships, with companies like Jaguar Land Rover and JP Morgan among others.

Around 80% of pupils secured places at their first-choice university, with the vast majority attending Russell Group institutions. These results are a testament to the hard work of our pupils, the dedication of their teachers, and the support of the wider Chigwell community.

Our Sixth Formers leave a lasting impact on school life, setting a strong example for younger pupils both academically and through the values they embody. As they move on to exciting new opportunities, we take pride in all they have accomplished and look forward to welcoming them back as alumni in the years to come.

Subject Choices

For pupils already at Chigwell in Year 11, we ask for initial A Level choices just before Christmas, followed by confirmed selections in March after the mock exams. For those joining us externally, the timeline is similar. Initial choices are submitted upon confirmation of a place in January, with final decisions made in March. We aim to build our A Level timetable around pupils’ choices as much as possible and do everything in our power to make it possible for pupils to study their chosen subjects regardless of combination. In a very small number of cases if this proves difficult due to the constraints of the timetable, we work with them and their families to find the best alternatives. Similarly, if a pupil changes their

mind, we do our best to accommodate their request, but this can become more challenging the later it is made.

CAN I CHANGE MY SUBJECTS AFTER THE START OF TERM?

We encourage our pupils to avoid changing subjects late as it is likely they will have work to catch up with the rest of your class.

If they are in this position we strongly encourage them to talk openly to their tutor and the Sixth Form Team. We will explore the available options and try to be as constructive as possible, although experience has shown us that in the majority of cases the answer is to persevere with their original choice.

“ Pupils demonstrate excellent selfconfidence and self-understanding. ”

What grades do we expect

Weare keen that our pupils achieve to the very best of their ability at A Level. With this in mind we require pupils to achieve an 8 or 9 in the subjects that they wish to study for A Level. Experience has shown that these grades provide the grounding required for pupils to achieve high grades at the end of the A Level course. If a pupil achieves GCSE grades below 8, we will review their A Level subject choices with them around the time results are released. For STEM subjects in particular, a grade 8 or above is generally considered essential for success at A Level, and pupils who do not meet this benchmark may be encouraged to consider alternative options better aligned with their academic strengths.

For Further Maths you should achieve a grade 9 in Maths GCSE (the Further Maths course leads to A Levels in both Further Maths and Maths so please just select Further Maths on the form).

For Economics, Business, Psychology, Politics, Classical Civilisation and Physical Education, which are all subjects no pupils at Chigwell have studied before at this point, the entry requirements are as follows:

Economics - at least grade 8 in English Language or an essay-writing subject and grade 7 or higher in Maths. Strong essay writing skills are more important than numeracy.

Business Studies - at least grade 8 in English Language or an essay-writing subject.

Psychology - at least grade 8 in English Language (or an essay-writing subject) and grade 7 or higher in Maths. A strong score in GCSE Biology (or the Biology component of the Double Award) is helpful.

Politics - at least grade 8 or above in English Language or an essay-writing subject, and GCSE History is an advantage. An active interest in the political scene is expected.

Classical Civilisation – a grade 8 in English Language or a similar essay-writing subject. A GCSE in Latin, Greek or Classical Civilisation is not required.

Physical Education - at least grade 8 in English Language or an essay-writing subject.

The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent.”

Extended Project Qualification

In the Lower Sixth , pupils have the opportunity to undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), allowing them to explore a topic of personal interest in depth and develop valuable research and academic writing skills. Applications are invited in December of Year 12, and the programme runs through to the following December, when pupils are in Year 13 and ready to submit their final project.

Working mostly on their own, they design, research, execute and evaluate a project on a topic of their choice. The EPQ can take the form of an extended written report of around 5000 words or an artefact such as a performance, piece of artwork, or other creative output accompanied by

a written commentary. A presentation event in the Autumn term allows the pupils to present their project showcasing their work and reflecting on their journey. Completing an EPQ helps to develop a range of independent skills that will benefit pupils in their A Levels, as well as equip them for the demands of university and beyond.

The qualification itself, while certainly not crucial to UCAS success, is well regarded by universities. Those who can complete it to a high standard may gain an advantage. This qualification appeals to independent pupils who enjoy writing.

“ Pupils display outstanding collaborative skills and work together extremely well.”

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS INSPECTORATE 2023

18+ Planning

Weare committed to helping our pupils achieve their goals – where they want to go truely matters to us. For Sixth Formers, having a clear sense of direction is everything. We have no set template for a Chigwellian’s future. Every single one of them is unique, and we reflect this in the support that we give. Some of our pupils go on to Oxford, LSE, Imperial or other very academic UK universities. Others, increasingly, enter a range of degree apprenticeships. Recent successes have included law, engineering and banking. Some pupils pursue courses at US colleges, European, or Chinese and Hong Kong universities.

We want our pupils to be informed and clear about their options throughout the Sixth Form. 18+ planning is a significant strand of the Lower Sixth enrichment programme. Pupils attend sessions on the UCAS process, including several on personal statement technique, international applications, transferable skills, personal branding, networking, and many more areas that we have consistently found to be vital to their immediate and longer-term happiness and success. Many of these are delivered by external experts. In the first term of Year 12 we offer talks about Law and Medicine, and in the second half of the Lent term we hold an 18+ Pathways Evening for parents and pupils looking at the range of routes available. A little later in March there is a University Application Support Day for our pupils when we take them off timetable to go more into detail about the process of UK undergraduate application. Throughout the

Sixth Form we encourage them to make detailed use of the Unifrog platform, the school has subscribed to since its early days, which includes an ever-expanding bank of searchable course and careers information, psychometric testing, regular webinars, virtual work experience opportunities and much more. Parental logins can be made available.

Chigwell’s Careers Convention has grown year on year and usually takes place in April. Our Year 12 pupils are the key audience. While we don’t arrange work experience, we know that for some pathways it is important. The Head of Careers maintains a broad list of contacts in the wider school community, many of whom benefitted from this when they or their children were pupils here, which our Sixth Formers are strongly encouraged to consider.

Many of the more competitive university courses now require admissions tests to be sat in the first term of Year 13. Our pupils are supported with these because of their importance, and some of the most popular ones are included as part of the enrichment programme. Interview practice is offered to those who need it. For medics we dedicate an afternoon for strictly timed Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) practice with internal and external staff. This is arranged by our Head of Biology and includes feedback and scoring. We offer one-to-one guidance to Year 12 pupils considering an Oxbridge pathway to help with college and course choice.

Wellbeing Matters

Examresults are important , and our pupils can be sure of all the support they need to get the most out of their time spent in the classroom. We want to see our pupils achieve, but we also want to see them thrive. We know that they are at their best when they are happy and healthy, and we do our best to make sure that they come to school ready to get stuck in. What does this look like?

Chigwell has a variety of different approaches to ensure that our pupils have someone to turn to should they not be feeling themselves, one of which is the Sixth Form tutoring system which is a vital part of school life. Each pupil has a Form Tutor, with whom they meet every morning during the week in small groups. This is the person that keeps the closest eye on how they are progressing in all areas of their life at school, will lead them in various activities and Wellbeing (PSHE) sessions, will be their link with their Day House, and who may be the teacher they remember most fondly after their time at Chigwell has come to an end. Their tutor will also be the main point of contact with parents, as we believe that keeping in touch with home is essential to making sure we are looking after our pupils properly.

There are eight of these Forms in both Year 12 and Year 13 led by a Head of Year. Our pupils will see their Head of Year most mornings as well, and will attend meetings, assemblies and Wellbeing sessions led by them. The main priority of the Head of Year is the wellbeing of their year group, so they will also take a keen interest in making sure they are finding their feet here, feeling connected, and taking advantage of the many avenues of academic and sporting

enjoyment on offer. Leading the two Heads of Year is the Head of Sixth Form, who is another person to whom pupils can turn for guidance. We also have a Head of Careers so if the pupils concern is about their future, they may wish to sit down with her for a conversation. Fortunately, the two Heads are found in the Sixth Form Centre which is where they will also spend most of their time, meaning that a quick chat is always available to them should they need one.

We have a brand-new Health and Wellbeing Centre for those occasions where a more specific level of support is necessary, and this is where they will find the Head of Wellbeing, a counsellor, and our medical team.

The above notwithstanding, we often find that the most meaningful support pupils have comes from their friends, and we take great pride in the way our Sixth Formers look after each other. The Sixth Form Centre is a relaxed but purposeful environment, which we are happy to call it home.

At the end of Year 12 our pupils are invited to the annual Lake District Trip, which has become a famous and very popular activity on the Sixth Form calendar, but it is not without challenge. This is a very good opportunity for our pupils to test their mettle in the beautiful but exacting landscape of the Cumbrian mountains. Mountain biking, kayaking, day-long hikes and lake swimming take place in all weathers, and our hope is that our pupils return having learnt that they have more grit and resilience than they thought, that pushing themselves can provide enormous satisfaction, and that they have strengthened their friendships.

School Grounds and Facilities

Chigwell School offers an exceptional blend of historic charm and modern innovation across its 100-acre campus, providing pupils with an inspiring and well-rounded environment for learning, creativity, and personal development. Nestled on the edge of Epping Forest and just a short journey from central London, our location combines natural beauty with urban accessibility.

At the heart of our campus are its historic buildings, including the original structure dating back to 1629, which now houses the Swallow Library. These heritage features are seamlessly integrated with state-of-the-art facilities, creating a unique educational setting. The campus is designed like a village, with specialist buildings for each department, allowing pupils to move between lessons in a calm and spacious atmosphere.

Academic life is supported by modern classrooms, science laboratories, and dedicated spaces for art, design and technology. The Walde Music School and the Drama Centre provide outstanding venues for performance and rehearsal, encouraging artistic expression and collaboration. For quiet study and research, pupils can access well-equipped libraries and the dedicated sixth form study areas.

The Health and Wellbeing Centre offers tailored support for both physical and mental health, ensuring every pupil feels cared for and supported. Over 1,000 nutritious meals are served daily in our Dining Hall, promoting healthy lifestyles.

The school chapel provides a tranquil and inclusive space for reflection, welcoming pupils of all faiths and beliefs.

Our outdoor spaces are equally impressive with our latest addition being our outstanding sustainability garden. The grounds are meticulously maintained and include formal gardens, open fields, and woodland areas, offering pupils a peaceful and stimulating environment. These spaces are not only ideal for relaxation but also serve as venues for outdoor learning and events.

Sport plays a central role in life at Chigwell. The school boasts extensive sports facilities, including grass pitches, floodlit astro and 3G pitches, tennis and netball courts, cricket nets, and a sports hall. The new Sport and Wellness Centre, a major recent development, features a 25-metre swimming pool, a fitness suite, a dance studio, a climbing wall, a café and multi-use sports areas. These facilities support a wide range of physical activities and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among pupils.

In summary, our facilities reflect our continued dedication to academic excellence, personal growth, and community spirit. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or on the sports field, pupils benefit from an environment that nurtures their talents and prepares them for the future.

CURRICULUM

Joining our Sixth Form

Our

Sixth Form includes pupils who have been at Chigwell for many years, and are joined by another 40 new pupils who are either day pupils or boarders – so if you join us from another school you won’t be alone. Indeed, in recent years many praefects and some heads of school have been ‘new’ pupils. They make a defining contribution to the identity of the Sixth Form at Chigwell: not only do we hope that they benefit from being with us, but we know how much we benefit from what they bring to our school community. We value diversity of background and experience.

We take our ‘Happiness First’ value seriously, especially when welcoming new pupils. We understand that joining a new school at 16 is a significant step and it has to feel right. That is why we work hard to ensure every pupil feels supported, valued, and quickly at home. We run two induction days: one in June before the summer holiday starts, and the other the day before the beginning of term in September. Each new pupil is introduced to a current pupil from their tutor group who acts as their ‘mentor’ the summer before they join us. Tutors monitor new pupils closely during the first few days and weeks, and during the first term they send home a written report for families of new pupils to provide feedback on how they are settling in.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Prospective Sixth Form applicants are warmly encouraged to attend Chigwell’s 16+ Open Evening, held in late September or early October. In addition, the Sixth Form team welcomes visits during the school’s general open mornings in the summer and autumn terms. At Chigwell, we pride ourselves on our warm and friendly approach and take time to get to know future pupils and their families well. We are a selective school and we do our best to make the assessment process as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We want to see applicants at their best.

The admissions journey provides an opportunity for families to get to know us really well, so they can make a wellinformed decision about the right school for their child. At any point in the process, if you have questions please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to help.

WHAT OUR NEW LOWER SIXTH PUPILS SAY

are patient and welcome our questions. They take their time to explain things.”

Boarding at Chigwell

Wehave a small, but unique, boarding provision at Chigwell School exclusively for Sixth Form pupils. Every year we welcome pupils from all over the world to come and experience life in a truly traditional British setting. These pupils bring with them varied and different perspectives and outlooks, all of which contribute greatly to life in the Sixth Form.

We welcome pupils from across the globe including countries such as Poland, Hong Kong, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine, Japan, China and Czech Republic, and also the UK – to name but a few! Once at the school, they get involved in daily school life in exactly the same way as our day pupils, in the day houses, taking part in activities and making friends. They are also joined by new local pupils who are starting their Chigwell journey in the Sixth Form for A Levels. This gives a truly international feel to our

Sixth Form which enriches and enhances every aspect of learning and development during their time with us.

We are also delighted to welcome UK pupils who may also want a boarding school experience and to fully immerse themselves in school life for the final part of their school journey.

We believe this is an excellent preparation for university, living away from home, yet receiving the dedicated and tailored support that our family-style boarding provides.

All boarding houses have a visiting Academic House Tutor every night who helps pupils during their prep time. All meals are provided onsite, and students have use of our grounds, facilities, and our brand new Sport and Wellness Centre. If you are interested in finding out more about boarding at Chigwell, please get in touch with our Boarding Admissions Registrar, Miss Roxanne Darkin by email at rdarkin@chigwell-school.org.

“I couldn’t wait to return after the summer holidays.”
“Some schools stand still, but Chigwell doesn’t…”
