ALEX MENESES
It was the golden age of Hollywood cinema that first caught a young Alex Meneses’ eye. Film was something Alex, her brothers, and her father bonded over Silver Screen legends like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire were family favorites. Their flawless moves and witty humor quickly caught her attention Rita Moreno in Westside Story,
” a powerhouse Latina”, as Alex put it, was also a formative influence From the age of 3, Alex trained and performed with hopes of emulating her dearest cinematic idols on stage. Keeping her dreams close, she began traveling and modeling at age 20
Meneses first tested the waters in Milan, Italy and a successful modeling career followed in the fashion capital As a young 20something Alex began her acting career in Los Angeles, having trained at the worldrenowned Lee Strasberg Institute, she was ready to take the industry by storm Her first TV and Film credits were in 1994, though the late 90s were recent, it was still not a time when Hollywood championed diverse and dimensional characters of color on screen. Furthermore, space for women and creators of color behind the camera was even smaller. Despite the status quo in Hollywood, Alex tells Chicago Latina Magazine she never once saw herself as a victim, saying “I don't let myself think I am against this or that, I just go. ”

Embracing Talent, Beauty, and Compassion: A Journey in Acting, Modeling, and Philanthropy
Meneses has built up a spectacular filmography, often playing strong yet stunning characters, she has graced our screens on just about every major television network's primetime lineup. NCIS, CSI, Jane The Virgin, Prison Break, Walker, and Why Women Kill are just a few of the TV shows booked by Meneses Feature films are also Alex’s strong suit having appeared in films like Selena (1997), The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), and Wrong Turn at Tahoe starring Cuba Gooding Jr (2009)
Her talent didn't stop there. Meneses also made an appearance on the iconic show FRIENDS (1997) In the episode titled "The One with All the Jealousy," she appeared as Cookie, a spirited character who added an extra dose of fun to the storyline Her engaging performance left a memorable impression on the show’s dedicated fan base.
Alex Meneses joined the cast of the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond (2001) She portrayed the character Stefania, the beautiful and fiery Italian girlfriend of Robert Barone, played by Brad Garrett Meneses' role added a delightful twist to the show's dynamic, infusing it with humor and her unique flair
Alex also played an ultra-wealthy Mexican matriarch in the 2019 film Wall of Mexico Here the dynamics of race and stereotype are turned on their heads The domestic help is played by a “gringo” and his employers are a powerful Latina and her daughters. Alex fills a space portraying Latina characters that are cunning, have agency, and are intelligent but are capable of being bombshells at the same damn time
Behind the camera Meneses has honed her craft as a producer, helping to create documentaries such as Damned to Heaven (2008) A documentary that uncovers the misconduct and morbid abuse committed against girls and women by infamous Latter Day Saints leader, Warren Jeffs Another project she immensely enjoyed producing was Australians Hit Hollywood (2009) Highlighting the hard-working ethic of a group of Australians that had found major success in Hollywood. Undoubtedly finding parallels between her documentary subjects and hard-working immigrants who come to the United States for a better life Alex hinted that there are three new projects from her coming out in 2025!
Outside of Film and TV Alex Meneses is a stellar philanthropist. With many charitable causes she supports and raises funds for, she currently serves as President of the Chicago Service Club, an allwomen-led organization Under her leadership, the Service Club of Chicago was able to raise funds at their annual gala in November 2024. These funds will go on to back grants that improve or initiate social service, health education, and cultural enrichment programs Nurturing, healing, and health are ways of life that Alex champions and shares with her family and community
If you asked Alex Meneses what her favorite role has been, she would most likely say being a mother Alex and her daughter share a very special bond, “she is my favorite human and the most important person in my life ” Family is something Alex holds very near to her heart. Though she is a Chicago native, Alex called Los Angeles home for many years, a place where she made many memories with her late Brother and Parents A short time ago, she and her daughter Stella moved back to Chicago to be closer to family and friends Alex Meneses is a model example of what happens when one never compromises her integrity and does not ever give up her dreams despite what may lie ahead

WELLNESS
Our gut produces 95 percent of serotonin, a " feel-good” chemical that helps us digest, relax, rest, and sleep.
“Wait What? I have a second brain?” is precisely what I blurted out when I learned about the connection between the gut and the brain Our gut is our second brain, and here is what I learned as a student and licensed clinical therapist. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract houses a network of nerve cells totaling more than 100 million, known as the enteric nervous system
"The gut-brain connection involves two-way communication between the brain and the gut, connecting emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with various intestinal functions," Professor Nick Spencer from Flinders University College of Medicine and Public Health explains "Recent research progress underscores the significance of gut microbiota in regulating these pathways "
In other words, how we treat our gut affects our brain, mood, and thoughts Our gut produces 95 percent of serotonin, a " feel-good” chemical that helps us digest, relax, rest, and sleep The gut releases serotonin through food, which later acts on nerves communicating with the brain. To simplify this, you are what you eat.
The study of the relationship between gut health and mental well-being is intriguing and ongoing Learning about the importance of supplementing our bodies with nutritious food is the first step to giving our brains the nurture they need to avoid sleep issues, anxiety, major depressive disorder, and many other conditions Begin by consulting with your doctor and consuming a healthy diet rich in fiber-packed foods such as fruits, veggies, and whole grains Adding probiotics and prebiotics to our regimen is also encouraged for a healthy gut and brain. An eating pattern characterized by excessive fat and sugar and lacking in fiber, commonly known as a "Western" diet, can potentially diminish specific gut bacteria strains, reducing the diversity of your microbiota
Signing off as your therapy girly, giving you the psychoeducation and information you need to thrive with your mental health.

HowtoBuildanAuthentic, LastingBrand
When starting a business, it’s easy to think of branding as just a logo or a tagline But true branding goes much deeper than surface aesthetics; it’s the identity, character, and values that set your business apart A strong brand doesn’t just get recognized; it resonates, creating a personal connection that makes customers feel like they already know you. In an age where AI-generated content and automation dominate, branding becomes even more essential in making your business feel human, memorable, and authentic
Think of your brand as a character in a story, the archetype at the heart of everything you do It could be the Caregiver who guides and supports, the Creator who inspires through innovation, or the Sage who provides wisdom. Knowing your brand archetype can set your small business apart in a way that resonates deeply with customers So, how do you build a brand that cuts through the noise, especially as technology reshapes how customers interact with businesses?
DISCOVER YOUR BRAND ARCHETYPE IT’S YOUR BRAND’S CORE IDENTITY
Your brand archetype is like a character in a story that guides everything you do, from the tone of your emails to the visuals on your social media Just as we naturally connect to characters in stories, your customers connect with brands that embody a familiar, compelling role
For instance, Birg Law, an immigration law firm, embraces the Caregiver archetype With the goal of guiding clients through an emotional journey, Birg Law embodies trust, confidence, and sophistication, experience, and compassion
By incorporating a clean, bold design with deep, rich colors and subtle metallic accents, Birg Law’s branding conveys both professionalism and reliability The dark teal blue and gold palette exudes elegance and authority, positioning Birg Law as a firm that not only provides legal services but also offers support and guidance through life-changing processes
The brand’s visual design combines minimalism with luxury The refined gold lines against a deep navy background suggest stability and prestige, giving clients the impression of a firm that is meticulous and attentive to detail The carefully chosen serif font for the word “LAW,” combined with the small, centered star, communicates a sense of aspiration, hope, and guidance qualities essential for clients navigating complex immigration issues
Beyond just looking polished, Birg Law’s branding is designed to make clients feel secure and reassured Every detail, from the color choices to the typography, reflects their Caregiver archetype calming and supportive yet authoritative, a trusted ally that clients can depend on during difficult times. This thoughtful approach to branding makes Birg Law memorable and helps establish an emotional connection with clients, allowing them to feel supported even before they step into the office or speak to an attorney
This is the power of intentional branding: it tells a story, reflects values, and builds trust all through design and tone
WHEN STARTING A BUSINESS, IT’S EASY TO THINK OF BRANDING AS JUST A
LOGO OR A TAG
To identify your brand’s archetype, ask yourself: What role do we want to play in our customers' lives?
Are we helping, guiding, inspiring, or entertaining?
Defining your brand’s character whether it’s the Hero, the Explorer, or the Sage gives your business a powerful foundation for storytelling and makes you instantly relatable to your audience. More Details about Brand Archetypes (chicagolatinamagazine com)
STAY CONSISTENT ACROSS PLATFORMS YOUR BRAND IDENTITY SHOULD SHINE EVERYWHERE
A strong brand shows up consistently, no matter where customers encounter it From your website and environment to social media posts, your brand’s essence should be apparent This consistency reassures customers, building trust as they recognize and remember your business.
For example, Fresh Made Cafe embodies the Everyperson archetype grounded, welcoming, and approachable Nondual Design helped Fresh Made create a brand that feels like a friendly community space Fresh Made Cafe branding feels organic, approachable, and genuinely connected to its purpose

As we age, we often transition into a new role known as caregiving. We now identify as "adult children," while our parents are seen as "adult seniors " Traditionally, Hispanic families take great pride in caring for their parents, whether by living together in one household or sharing responsibilities among siblings As we embrace our roles as adult children, the nature of our conversations evolves. One crucial discussion we must have with our parents revolves around the transitions of life.
It's important to approach these conversations with sensitivity and respect, acknowledging the wisdom and experiences our parents have accumulated over the years. These discussions may cover topics such as healthcare preferences, living arrangements, financial planning, and end-of-life wishes By addressing these subjects openly, we can ensure that our parents' desires are understood and honored Moreover, this dialogue fosters a deeper connection between generations, allowing us to learn from each other and strengthen family bonds By creating a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and valued, we can navigate the challenges and joys of aging together, cherishing the time we have with our loved ones
