WELCOME BACK I believe in art. I believe in children. I believe in the potential of each being. I believe in education. I believe in remedial teaching. My heart is SO FULL OF LOVE AND JOY, because parents across South Africa are choosing Creative Kidz School as the space where their child will be supported, cared for and loved. During 2021, we had incredible results with our creativity inspired, multi-sensory teaching approach. Our exceptional teachers and team (our creative crew as we call them) are so well trained and supported. They LOVE to work with your children, to assist them in dealing with any barriers they might be facing. We've invented really cool new INDIVIDUAL LEARNING INTERVENTIONS and we can't wait to share more of those with you!

For the remainder of this year, we'll be focussing on becoming a voice of education and support for all parents, teachers and professionals in the industry. We'd love to connect on a deeper level with all stakeholders and to continually grow and develop in our approach, making sure that we offer only the HIGHEST quality of remedial education available. We're really proud of our value proposition, which is presenting the full CAPS curriculum through the best multisensory remedial teaching in small classes. We hope that your child will be able to explore themselves and their abilities and that YOU wil feel valued and supported in the process.

Raising a child really isn't easy! As they say, it takes a VILLAGE! Our first new online campaign is all about CRAFTING A KID. What tools and teammates do we need to craft our young-ones into the most organic, creative and beautiful artworks they can be? Check it out on our social media pages and read a bit below!

Being a parent or a teacher in the 21st century comes with major responsibility. Modern children are challenging, creative, unique and intensional. They have very specific needs and desires. "Crafting a kid" is a metaphor explaining the process of cultivating, breeding or raising a successful child.

Your child is a canvas, ready to become a work of pure art.

Have the right tools on your way and craft your kid.

This is a process of craftsmanship, and one would need very specific skills to do this. Perfecting a craft, takes on average 10 000 hours, but learning the craft of raising a child is an ongoing process, which can never be quite perfect.

Firstly we need a team. PARENTS + PROFESSIONALS + OUR KIDS = a successful crafting journey. As a parent you should be equipping yourself with the necessary skills to help your child overcome their barriers and to flourish. The help of trained and accredited professionals is essential for anyone on a journey with learning barriers or other issues.

What are your greatest challenges as a parent? What is your child struggling with? Is the EDUCATION TEAM (EDU TEAM) you have selected supporting you on your CRAFTING journey? Is your child interested and engaged in the process of growth?

We really believe that it is a team effort, starting with the parent, then traveling to the teacher & professional and finally, if we're lucky the child becomes the true artist, taking charge of their own learning journey.

Throughout this campaign we'll be discussing the various perspectives of "crafting a child". We'll see what the parent needs, in order to cope and we'll get and give some great advice. We'll also connect with teachers, occupational therapists, educational psychologists and other professionals to get the remedies "straight from the horse's mouth".

Finally, we'll put on the glasses of your child, and we'll see how they perceive the world, learning, their growth and learning barriers.

PSYCH MATTERS BUT WHAT CAN WE DO? Mornings are NB! The start of our day provides the basis for the whole day to be built upon. Make sure that it is calm and according to a specific routine every day.

Our mindset, emotional state and frame of mind are affected from the second we open our eyes. Having a good routine and structure in the morning provides a firm and safe basis to a positive day.

Keep it clean!

If our environments are chaotic and unorganised, our minds are as well and how can we focus?

Having an organised home, room, bag and table leads to having an organized mind.

Make time for fun Life is so busy and rushed, we live past our family and friends. Quality time with our children provide a secure and positive attachment.

Manage their time A busy school day and a busy afternoon, every day is not necessarily the best way.

As parents, we want our kids to enjoy extra murals and experience life to the fullest.

However, we sometimes fill their program up so much, that their minds cannot encapsulate all the information. This has an impact on their overall concentration, organization and holistic wellbeing and functioning. Select 1 or 2 extramural that your child enjoys and arrange a sensible schedule around school activities and homework. Make sure they have enough time for school work, activities and most of all: being a child – free play!

HELP! MY CHILD HAS CONCENTRATION DIFFICULTIES. WHAT CAN I DO?

Has your child’s teacher complained that your child cannot: Focus and concentrate Is impulsive Is disorganize Cannot sit still Doesn’t follow instructions Is fidgety Struggles with social skills Be rest assured that there are many children that have these difficulties, not only your child. In fact, most adults do as well ☺ The reasons for these challenges are endless and in order to address the root cause, an assessment with an Educational Psychologist is of utmost importance. This psycho-educational assessment provides an in depth overview of your holistic child.

In order to provide a triangulated conclusion and recommendations, the following areas are assessed: Cognitive ability (IQ) – this includes verbal and non-verbal abilities like language development, processing, memory, concentration levels and reasoning abilities, to name a few.

Perceptual ability – fine and gross motor development, organization and structure.

Academic ability – reading, spelling, writing, comprehension and maths.

Emotional assessment – Measuring the capability of individuals to recognise their own, and others’ emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt to environments. Family and school environments are also assessed.

To the left you'll find some valuable tips on what you can do at home to support your child and to make life a little bit easier for them. Parenting is not for the faint hearted… But it sure is an amazingly magical privilege!

PSYCH MATTERS THE BENEFIT OF AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES By: Tayla Owen-Jones Registration: Student Registered Counsellor

If I were to look back at my schooling career my mom would tell you that I was at school probably more than I was at home. The reason for this was because I used to get involved in every after-school activity the school had to offer, whether that be public speaking, Eisteddfod, or the school swimming team, I was there for all of it.

But what are the actual benefits of getting involved in these after-school activities? Whilst these activities can be fun and are a great way to get involved in the school environment other than school itself, there are a lot of advantages that come from being involved in after-school activities.

Firstly, participating in an after-school activity creates a new environment for children to interact and get to know each other in a different way. While important, the classroom environment can be a place of high stress and limited conversation. Let’s be honest you can only talk about your math homework so much. Participating in an after-school activity provides children with a whole new way to interact with their classmates and opens the opportunity to make new friends.

Partaking in these activities has also been shown to improve social skills. Being part of a team often includes promoting respect for others, support and cooperation alongside having to work with a variety of individuals with different skills. Being part of an after-school activity has also shown to build self-esteem.

If a sport-related activity is the one for you, the physical activity involved with this is seen to benefit both physical and mental health. With that being said, for those who don’t particularly enjoy sport, other activities such as those more in the cultural sphere are seen to boost confidence.

We have recently introduced after-school activities at Creative Kidz School. There are a variety of choices!

We would like to encourage everyone to try and get involved in an activity of their choice if they can. The benefits of this cannot be spoken about enough and if nothing else these activities are great fun.

HOWZIT FROM HYKIE BERG Hallo all you wonderful creative kidz and moms and dads. Once again, I would just like to express my gratitude for being associated with such an incredible and awe-inspiring school. It is such a privilege and an honour to be a mouthpiece and a voice in a world that does not always understand our children. Educating the world and making parents aware of different approaches within the educational system is so crucial, especially when it comes to mainstream belief systems that doesn’t always serve our kids or our communities.

Creative Kidz is more than just a school. It is a revolution. Our goal is to change the mindset and belief system that has for so many years kept parents from courageously stepping out and act differently than expected. If something doesn’t work, change it, and that is exactly what we have been doing. The results speak for themselves.

The time has come, and the stage has been set for a different and fresh approach. Our kids are heroes! They are smart, intelligent, brave, and an indispensable asset to the community and the world. They offer a unique blend of greatness to society that no one else can offer. Most of the world changers that have ever lived, those that left an indelible impact on the people and the world around them, were once in their lives branded as useless, mentally ill, worthless, incompetent, and somehow displaced from the rest of their peers. Yet, they were victorious and conquered their “inadequacies” There is so much hope! Your child is a miracle from God, and though some days it might feel like you are at the end of your rope, just hang on. A little longer might seem like forever, but seasons never last, and where dry deserts end, furrows of green pastures begin.

I know what it feels like to live with and conquer a learning barrier. If you don't know my story, I would love to connect with you and meet you at one of the Creative Kidz events. I am looking forward to working with the Creative Crew and help this school expand, grow and flourish into what we believe it could be. My wish for you this term: "May you be brave, bold and live with a heart of gratitude."
