Good evening everyone and welcome to The GBS Stadium for the rearranged match vs Brentwood after the conditions forced us to postpone a couple of weeks ago.
There has been a lot of change at Ipswich Wanderers with new manager Michael Brothers bringing in several new faces. This has certainly seen an upturn in our performances but not produced many points but everyone around the ground feel this is about to change.
Brentwood will be a tough match and they will feel confident after their big win against us earlier in the season and their current form has pushed them up to 4th in the league.
We know we need to be at our best to have any chance but the performance against Needham,Bury and Maldon will put us in a positive mood
Around the ground there has been a few changes with the new kitchen now in use so many thanks to SMART Modular Buildings,GBS and Howden for their massive support.
I’d like to extend many thanks to the volunteers, supporters and playing staff for their support in what has been a difficult time here and with them we look forward to a successful future
Enjoy the game and good luck to our side.
Rick Kerry, IWFC Co-Chairman

IPSWICH WANDERERS CLUB HISTORY
> The Club started as an under 14’s boys team in 1980. Two yrs later they entered the lowest division of the Ipswich Sunday League.
> Joined the newly formed Eastern Counties Division One sponsored by Jewsons in 1987 as founder members.
> Home games were played at our present ground at Humber Doucy Lane, under the name of Loadwell Ipswich. Jimmy Barker became a very influential chairman and he negotiated a name change to Lancaster Ipswich FC before we eventually became Ipswich Wanderers. Jimmy died in November 1994 and his presence is sadly missed. Thankfully after all his work he saw the floodlights switched on in September 1994 in a match against Ipswich Town.
> Great ground improvements were made in the early years under the direction of Development Officer Roger Woshalo and ground Manager Tim Davey.
> A losing Suffolk Senior Cup appearance in 1996/97 lead to the following season becoming Champions of Division One, under the Chairmanship of Alan Haste, nine points clear of Maldon Town and losing only three league matches all season. Reaping the rewards of a successful youth policy which saw numerous trophies filling the clubhouse cabinet, a well organised side with a good balance between youth and experience saw us establish ourselves as a Premier Division side for a number of seasons until we suffered relegation on the last day of the 2002/3 season at Wisbech.
> The following season saw Jason Dozzell join the Club as Manager and after a midtable finish in his first campaign, the second season saw the Club sweep to the 1st Division title and with the assistance of Kevin Cunningham and Glynn Hague, the team finished 7th in the Premier Division in 2005/6, with the League’s second best defence with home crowds on average exceeding 100.
> At the end of the 2005/6 Jason Dozzell and Chairman David Bugg left. Local businessman Ed Nicholls became Chairman and John Clarkson was appointed Manager having arrived with a reputation from the West Country. During the season he guided the club to the final of the Ridgeons League Cup, the 5th round of the FA Vase and a Suffolk Premier Cup Semi Final against Ipswich Town.
> At the end of the campaign John left the Club and with an exodus of players, the Club appointed ex player Louis Newman to the role, Louis built a young, inexperienced squad and after a poor start to the campaign which included some record defeats, was replaced by another former player Steve Buckle who was brought in to rebuild the squad and hopefully retain the Clubs’s premier status. Unfortunately Steve was unable to prevent relegation and the only positive from the season was the Reserves capture of the Chell Trophy defeating Wroxham.
> Despite Steve’s best efforts over the following few seasons the Club failed to build a promotion push throughout the campaigns and after a poor start to the 2011/12 season, Steve and Assistant Paul Grainger parted company with the Club. New chairman Terry Fenwick appointed Glenn Read and he brought in his own players and former Stowmarket Town boss Steve Jay as his assistant. He quickly revamped the squad and had the Club climbing the table before the end of the season.
> The 2012/3 season saw the Club just fail to clinch promotion to the Premier Division and lose on penalties in the semi final in the First Division Cup. The season did finish on a high as the Club clinched its first ever Suffolk Senior Cup trophy defeating local rivals Whitton United in the final. It was a remarkable victory coming from a goal down in normal time and then from 3-0 down in the penalty shoot out.
> 2013/14 saw promotion achieved with two long unbeaten runs ensuring a return to the Premier Division, we also lost a tight Senior Cup final against Whitton United and set a new club record with a 12-1 win over Downham Town.
> The 2014/15 was mixed as we adapted to Premier Division and finished 9th and enjoyed a good run in the FA Vase but off field the club lost one of its driving forces Roger Wosahlo mid-season.
> In 2015-16 we defeated Canvey Island in the FA Cup and enjoy our best ever FA Vase run but with a heavy fixture backlog, relegation fears were only ended just before the season end. Glenn stepped down at the end of the season and for 2016-17 the Club appointed Shane Wardley as Player/Manager.
> Shane’s first season saw us almost emulate our highest ever position, however, after a poor start to the 2017-18 season Shane resigned and following a disastrous spell under Mark Benterman, club legend Mark Goldfinch took over the side ably assisted by James Buckle and Daniel Thrower. Unfortunately, relegation could not be avoided and in 2018-19 we consolidated and lost in the Senior Cup Semi Final to Cornard.
> In 2019-20 with Stephen Boyle taking over as Chairman, we rebuilt and after a sticky spell in October we were closing in on the promotion pack and reached a Semi Final of the Suffolk Senior Cup before the season came to an abrupt end. With further additions on field and some good improvements off field under Stephen’s leadership, we then looked to gain the vital promotion required for us to take the next steps forward with a good squad. The start to the next season was positive and a second Senior Cup trophy was clinched in the delayed final with a single strike from Connor Field clinching the trophy.
> After a couple of Covid-19 disrupted and curtailed seasons, for the 2021/22 season Wanderers went into action in the Thurlow Nunn First Division South. With what became a tight run affair and particular rivalry with Buckhurst Hill also aiming for the title, it went almost to the wire, Wanderers finally having the upper hand, and lifting the trophy with a goal 10 seconds from time in the final home game. With the final of the Suffolk Senior Cup to follow, we finished the season with 26 straight wins, and a well deserved double of league and cup was won!
> The following season started with four cup fixtures in the opening 7 games, and a haul of just 3 points from the first 5 league games meant Wanderers were already playing catch up when our league campaign really got going. A run of 6 wins in an 8 game unbeaten run helped to move us up the table before another rare defeat. More wins followed until in January, we visited top of the table Thetford, which ended in a 1-2 defeat. After this, Wanderers embarked on another 17-game winning run to the end of the season, including coming from behind to avenge the result against Thetford, going above them and ultimately become Thurlow Nunn Premier winners - back to back champions - and into Step 4 football for the first time in the club’s history.
> The 2023/24 season, the first for the club in the Isthmian League North came with added pressure - both on and off the pitch. A poor start to the season on the pitch brought a change in September, with the departure of Mark Goldfinch & James Buckle. Glen Driver came in as manager, with the task of keeping the club clear of relegation. Off the pitch was a mammoth job with a huge amount of work needed to pass the ground grading requirements to stay at this level. The inspection in April brought a great deal of relief, and along with the efforts of Glen and his team on the pitch, meant the aims for the season were achieved. Now to move forwards into 2024/25 and properly compete...

VIEW FROM THE BOSS
Firstly a warm welcome to all who have travelled from Brentwood for today’s fixture at the third attempt!
After our impressive performance against Gorleston in some tricky conditions, we headed to Needham for the Suffolk Cup feeling positive!
Cup football is a break from the regular league pressures; it really lets our players enjoy the game, and showcase themselves and our club. From the very start we always look to players work rate and each every single player really gave it their all. We played some good stuff at times creating a couple of against a Step 2 team, whilst keeping a clean sheet. We ultimately lost on penalties (which we can leave out of the conversation!), and we should be proud of how we played.
Now that a couple of weeks have gone by, we’re now looking to build on those performances and start picking up some points as we prepare for the busy festive period!
A big thank you to all our loyal supporters! I really appreciate your trust in the process—let’s keep moving forward together!
Up the Wanderers!

We welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Brentwood Town FC
CLUB HISTORY
The original Brentwood FC dates to the 19th century and the club saw some success in those early days, reaching the quarter-final of the FA Cup in 1886 where they were beaten 3-1 by Blackburn Rovers.
In the 1950s and 1960s the club operated as Brentwood & Warley FC and were three times winners of the Delphian League. In 1965 the club turned ‘professional’ becoming Brentwood Town FC.
The late 60s saw great success for the club as they rapidly rose to the heights of non-league football. Brentwood Town became a force to be reckoned with in the Southern League Premier Division, reaching the third round proper of the FA Cup in the 1969/70 season. But following their successful run the club subsequently folded and amalgamated with Chelmsford City.
The current club was founded in 1954 as Manor Athletic playing from King George’s Playing Fields in Hartswood. From 1957 to 1993 the Club played at Larkins Playing Fields on the Ongar Road. With help from the local council, Brentwood found a new home at The Brentwood Centre, where they played their first match in October 1993. In 2004 the Essex County FA officially gave the club permission to change its name and re-adopt the title of Brentwood Town FC.
Brentwood FC won the Essex Senior League title for the first time in the 2000/01 season and reached the final of the league cup in the 2005/06 season, losing 2-0 to Hornchurch.
Under the management of Steve Witherspoon and Amin Levitt the 2006/07 was the most successful in the club’s history as they won the Essex Senior League championship title and both league cup competitions to complete a treble. That also meant promotion to the Isthmian League North Division. In the 2007/08 season, the team performed well in the FA Cup and FA Trophy, and closely missed out on a play-off place, finishing sixth in the league.
The 2014/15 season saw more impressive victories, thanks to 10 players who had progressed through the youth pathway, leading the team to the Ryman North play-offs and achieving promotion to the Isthmian Premier League for the first time. This was the highest league status ever reached by the current Brentwood Town club and was obtained thanks to the skilled guidance of Adam Flanagan, the 2014/15 Manager. Adam subsequently moved on to manage Concord and Dartford in the National League South.
The biggest name in football to have played for the club has to be the great Jimmy Greaves! Jimmy signed for Brentwood in December 1975, aged 34. You could be sure that whenever Jimmy was part of the team, you could add hundreds of additional spectators to the normal gate numbers.
Thanks to the guidance and investment from the current Chairman, Jez Dickinson, the club was awarded a Charter Standard recognition from the FA in 2020 this marked the start of what the club expects to be an exciting journey progressing up the football pyramid.
Rod Stringer took over as manager in October 2021 and took the team to the play-off final where they lost on penalties to Canvey Island. In February 2023 Rod was succeeded by Craig Shipman who returned to the Arena having previously managed Brentwood Town between 2017-19 and had since been Assistant Manager at Great Wakering Rovers and 1st Team Coach at Concord Rangers.
In October 2023 Keith Rowland, the former West Ham and QPR defender, who has previously managed at Aveley and Wingate & Finchley succeeded Craig Shipman. The 2023/24 season saw the team reach the Isthmian play-off final once again, only to be beaten on penalties for the second time in three seasons. There is a new 3G pitch at the Brentwood Arena and confidence is high before the start of the 2024/25 season that the Blues can get back to the Isthmian Premier.

Last season saw our first ever match with Brentwood Town, we lost 1-0 in September at their ground with Tony Kinsella in caretaker charge before Glen took the job.
The game at home saw us suffer a 6-1 defeat with the visitors making us pay for poor defensive errors and showing good finishing ironically Matt Blake had scored early on his return to the club to put us in front and it wasn’t an enjoyable debut for Danny Cullum in goal.
Our side that day was: D Cullum, P Coelho, L Kincaid, J Ayola, A Dunnage, K Rose, B Lawrence, P Moodie, M Blake, M Paine, I Skubich
