Batangas Delicacies to Enjoy with your Loved Ones

BULALO

Almost every Filipino is familiar with this special dish. Batangas Bulalo might be a simple beef soup but its long preparation time makes it even more special dahil nanunuot ang lasa ng baka sa sabaw matapos itong pakuluan ng ilang oras na may halong sibuyas at pamintang buo. Siguradong simot to the bones!

BATANGAS LOMI

Hindi ka lang mabubusog sa pagmamahal from your loved ones

kundi pati na rin sa overloaded

toppings ng Lomi ng Batangas, filled with crispy chicharon, meaty slices of kikiam, chicken liver, and pork belly. Lomi Batangas is made of miki noodles covered in thick egg

noodle soup, filled with overloaded savory toppings that adds more texture to this more-than-perfect noodle soup of Batangas.

BATANGAS GOTO

In the Philippines, goto is usually known as rice porridge but with beef meat. Rice porridge or lugaw is commonly known as a comfort food for Filipinos as it’s usually served when you’re sick. However, Batangas Goto puts an extraordinary twist to this dish by incorporating several internal organs. Batangas Goto is a savory soup filled with beef internal organs and annatto powder.

DEEP FRIED TAWILIS

Tawilis is a freshwater fish which can only be found in the lakes of Taal. To add more flavor, you can pair it with bagoong Balayan or just simply dip it with vinegar to balance out its saltiness.

KAPENG BARAKO

Batangas is also known for its strong dark coffee also known as Kapeng Barako. Ika nga nila, unang higop mo palang ay siguradong magigising at mabubuhayan ka agad. A cup of kapeng barako paired with some fresh pandesal from local panaderias is best enjoyed while catching up with your loved ones and being in the moment with them.

A full stomach makes for a happy heart.

Have you ever heard of this expression?

Did you also read it with a prominent Batangueño accent?

Ang Batangas ay isa sa madalas puntahan ng mga Filipino dahil it’s just a short drive away from the bustling city of Metro Manila and it also has the second largest international seaport in the Philippines. Pero syempre, napakarami rin nitong mga wonders na talagang maipagmamalaki sa mga turista, may it be locally or internationally. Dito matatagpuan ang Taal Volcano, along with the Taal Heritage town, historical churches, matataas na bulubundukin na pwede mong akyatin, at napakaraming beaches na pwede mong puntahan. Batangas is also well-known for their distinctive dialect and “Ala eh!” is one of their most famous expressions.

In the dialect of Batangueños, “ala” is a term that translates to “well “ while the term “eh” has no definite meaning but it’s used as a word to provide emphasis. With reference to this famous expression, Batangas created a festival to encourage people to visit their province.

In 2008, Batangas introduced their Ala Eh! Festival to mesmerize tourists with the rich and varied culture of the province and to further promote tourism in the region.

Every year, a particular municipality is given the mission of organizing the festival and the events that will highlight the finest aspects of their province. The festival is celebrated on December 8, the founding anniversary of Batangas, and it usually lasts for a week. They hold a wide range of activities to showcase their rich culture, including beauty pageants highlighting fruits and vegetables, street dance competitions, mini Olympics, street markets or tiangge where local products are proudly exhibited.

UNDERNEATH THE DEEP BLUE SEA CREATION

Anilao serves as the Philippines’ “Eden,” or birthplace of scuba diving. It has 40 diving sites recognized as Batangas’ scuba diving capital. The best diving sites are in Sombrero Island, Maricaban Island, Cathedral, and Mapating. Anilao diving is renowned for its incredible diversity, abundant reefs, variety of fish, unexpected critters, and nudibranchs that appear.

The rare soft coral forests can be found 70-130 ft deep. Activities in Anilao is not only limited to diving, but also include snorkeling, kayaking, and island hopping.

DID YOU KNOW?

Anilao and Batangas City are unexpectedly safe locations during Taal Volcano eruptions, and diving is still allowed because they are located miles away from the volcano. Residents near the vicinity of the volcano are usually relocated to these areas in case of catastrophic eruptions.

Kung tent tayo, ikaw ang pole. Because I can’t stand without you.

I don’t want to end up like the monolith.

Do not leave your feelings unattended.

Sa love, ‘di maiiwasan na may U-Turn. Akala mo dire-diretso na, may babalikan pa pala

Cafe de Lipa is named as such because it all started in LIPA CITY, Batangas–a city with a history intertwined with coffee. The first coffee tree was planted in Lipa City

DATE IT STARTED

October 26, 2006

51

HOW IT STARTED

Historically, Liberica locally known as Kapeng Barako flourished in Lipa City and it became a great source of income for the Lipeños. The founder, Jose H. Mercado and his family started growing their own Liberica beans which he then traded. It was his dream to serve Kapeng Barako from bean to cup; this dream and his passion for coffee led to the birth of Cafe de Lipa. As the founder is a farmer growing coffee, flourished as a coffee trader, and the dream to serve coffee–everything has come full circle.

HOW CAFE DE LIPA DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COFFEE SHOPS IN BATANGAS

We serve Kapeng Barako from bean to cup.

We also showcase Filipino Coffee. Barako (Liberica) leads it but we also showcase different beans coming from different areas like Batangas, Quezon, Pampanga, Benguet, and Bukidnon.

IF YOU HAVE THE POWER TO INFLUENCE YOUR CUSTOMER’S THOUGHTS, WHAT IDEAS/VALUES WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLACE IN THEIR MINDS?

Nothing compares to natural brewed coffee for your health. Health must not come at the cost of ‘instant’ living. We enjoy tastes naturally.

Connections no matter how small are integral to anyone. Whether it be connection to one’s history, to one’s culture, to one’s community, to each other, and more, these make up who we are and who we could be.

The enjoyment of a cup of coffee is the enjoyment of pleasant sourness and pleasant bitterness.
