“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning-the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31(NIV)

In the book, Acts of the Apostles, page 126, Sister White says that “When the mind of man brought into communion with the mind of God, the finite with the infinite, the effect on body and mind and soul is beyond estimate.” She continues to say, “In such communion is found the highest education. It is God’s own method of development.”

Motivated by this notion of aligning our mind with the mind of God in Health, Healthy Lifestyles would like to present to you a new concept of a Health Digital Magazine called Healing Grace.

Healing Grace aims to bring health, wellness, nutrition, and fitness science-based education inspired by our Adventist Health Message with the goal of connecting our minds with the mind of God. Remember what Jesus says in John 10:10 (KJV) 2nd part: "I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly."

In these first 4 editions of Healing Grace- summer, fall, winter, and spring, we will be laying a foundation and talking about basic issues (understanding cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and obesity), as we continue, by God’s grace, we will move from basic to more specific subjects. Mental Health and Kids’ Health will also be addressed.

Now, what will you see in our first edition?

For this first e dition, we w ill b egin our foundation by u nderstanding our basic health numbers focusingoncholesterol, howtopreventandkeepourarterieslookingnice, andifour numbersarenot ideal, how to improve it. There will be speaking presentations, cooking sessions, andfitness sessions. Remember, the focus of Healing Grace is to be educational, aligning our mind with the mind of God.

This newsletter will always accompany the online presentations. Click here for the link to our playlist also available on the CHC webpage.

You may help by praying for the health professionals brainstorming new editions, sharing the link to your FRIENDS, and praying that the content of Healing Grace will assist you in change.

Now, we are grateful to God for the opportunity to serve Him at CHCSDA, everything we do, we do for His Glory and Honor. This is an opportunity we have to bring our talents back to the altar.

Grab some water, get comfortable, and enjoy the gift of Healing Grace’s first edition.

LDL,

HDL & TRIGLYCERIDES UNDERSTANDING LEVELS & NUMBERS

Good cholesterol, bad cholesterol, high density, low density. Although this may sound like something depressing, cholesterol is not something to take lightly. It’s an issue that should concern everyone, regardless of age, weight, or gender. High cholesterol can be a killer, and a large majority of the population isn’t aware of what their cholesterol numbers are. Information, education, and knowing your numbers are essential.

Combinations of high total cholesterol, high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol contribute to heart disease and stroke. And a recent study by the Department of Veterans Affairs has proven that high cholesterol may also increase the risk of cognitive impairment, which may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

CHOLE

So what can you do to reduce their risk of experiencing such health issues? Exercise, a healthy diet, and for those with a very high cholesterol- medication will have a positive impact. But at what point in life to begin worrying about cholesterol or know how to fix any problems?

IT’S AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD CONCERN EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF AGE, WEIGHT, OR GENDER.

We invite you to continue this conversation by clicking here to access our playlist on cholesterol.

Why is Cholesterol Important for Kids?

Cholesterol isn’t just an adult issue.High cholesterol can start in childhood and continue into adulthood, leading to an increased risk of heart disease later in life. Therefore, it’s crucial to monitor and manage cholesterol levels in children to ensure they grow up healthy.

Causes of High Cholesterol in Kids

Several factors can contribute to high cholesterol in children:

- Poor Diet: Consuming foods high in saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol.

- Lack of Physical Activity: Leading to weight gain and higher cholesterol levels.

- Family History: Genetics play a significant role; children with a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease are at greater risk.

- Obesity: Excess weight can increase cholesterol levels.

How to Maintain Healthy Cholesterol Levels

Parents can take several steps to help their children maintain healthy cholesterol levels:

1. Healthy Eating Habits

-Balanced Diet: Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins in your child’s diet.

-Limit Unhealthy Fats: Reduce the intake of saturated fats (found in red meat and full-fat dairy products) and trans fats (found in many processed foods).

-Choose Healthy Fats: Opt for healthy fats, such as those found in olive oil, avocados, and nuts.

-Healthy Snacks: Encourage heart-healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains instead of chips or sugary treats.

2. Encourage Physical Activity

- Regular Exercise: Ensure your child gets at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. This can include activities like biking, swimming, playing sports, or even family walks.

- Limit Screen Time: Encourage active play instead of spending too much time in front of screens.

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in every cell of the body.
