West Bay is one of the most spectacular points from which to view and discover the Jurassic Coast. The golden cliffs to the east lead on to Chesil Beach and Portland Bill. Head west to the great sweep of Lyme Bay with views of Golden Cap, Lyme Regis, Beer Head and beyond. The Dorset historic market town of Bridport lies one and a half miles inland from the West Bay coast. As you would expect, the seafood here is second to none. Served up in the local pubs and restaurants there isn’t anything fresher. West Bay caters to every kind of person, so whether you prefer fish ‘n’ chips on the pier or a slap-up lobster dinner, you’ll certainly find what you’re looking for. This area is a fantastic tourism spot and with the beautiful scenery drawing attention of various TV shows over the years, the most recent ITVs ‘Broadchurch’ starring David Tenant, the visitor count just keeps going up.

Set over three floors, The Customs House is a beautiful 200 year old listed building with vaulted ceilings and a quirky L shaped layout around a picturesque courtyard. The space really lends itself to the creative and relaxed atmosphere that our shops and dining will bring to it. With pretty staircases and a great mix of large open spaces and smaller hidden rooms, there is a great feeling of discovery when walking around this gorgeous building. Right on the front, The Customs House has a great nautical feel with the sound of the water and the proximity of the beach. There is ample parking outside with the car park adjoining that of the Sea front. The outside space is large yet still has an intimate feel and will be a wonderful place for markets and dining. With a wonderful feel of history and oozing with potential, The Old Customs House is a real gem of West Bay.

The three floors will be filled with different shops selling a fantastic selection of beautiful things with the lovely backdrop of the space and the ocean just a couple of minutes walk away. We will be bringing together a select group of talented and creative traders together in this exciting new shopping experience in the pretty harbour of West Bay and visitors will treated to a wonderful day out with every visit. Workshop space will also be available and The Customs House will be home to painting, craft and art classes in this inspirational building. The central courtyard is a fantastic space and will house markets selling a large range of goods from delicious local produce such as fruits and veg to home made cakes and bread as well as art, clothing, furniture and hand made items. If all this wasn’t enough, The Customs House will also have its very own bistro serving, among other things, wood fired pizza. The delicious food will be available inside or alfresco in the pretty courtyard where you will also be able to purchase ice cream from a quirky vintage ice cream cart. The lovely building will be a hive of activity with so much going on every day and customers and traders a like will simply fall in love with the atmosphere.
