More commonly known as the Pamplona bull running, the festival of San Fermin begins at midday on July 6th. It is one of the most internationally renowned fiesta in Spain. In 1926 Ernest Hemingway published his novel “The Sun Also Rises which first told the world about the Pamplona bull running festival and therefore attracted people from all over the world. Nowadays over a million people visit to watch the festival. Setting off the chupinazo, a rocket that is launched from a city hall balcony marks the opening of the fiesta. The running of the bulls happens at 8.00 am from July 7th to July 14th. The runners musts be in the running area by 7.30 am. The run stretches from the corral at Santo Domingo where the bulls are kept to the bullring where that same afternoon the bulls will fight. Six fighting bulls and two herds of bullocks run the route each day. To watch the Pamplona Bull Run you can stand behind fences along the route but get there early to get the best views or you can watch the end of the run at the bullring as the bulls arrive. The week long festival includes other traditional events. The Sanfermines is held in honour of Saint Fermin, the co-patron of Navarre. The end of the fiesta is July 14th when the people of Pamplona meet in the Town hall Plaza at midnight and sing the traditional Pobre de Mi (Poor Me) by candlelight.

The Feast of Saint James is held on July 25th. Which is a public holiday in Galicia. Saint James is the Patron Saint of Spain and the annual Feast takes place in Santiago de Compostela, a city full of history with a religious atmosphere. In the two weeks leading up to the Feast of Saint James there are drama productions, art exhibitions and concerts. On the evening of July 24th at midnight the cathedral is illuminated by an incredible pyrotechnics display. On the 25th the streets are lined with people watching processions of different carnival groups and the music and dancing carry on well into the next morning. There is a lot of drinking and eating to do, especially oysters or scallops which are eaten to ensure health and wealth in the following year. The celebrations include an official mass, which is attended by representatives of the Galician government and often by members of the Spanish Royal family.

Belén Rueda Maria Belén Rueda García-Porrero was born in Madrid on March 16th 1965. Her father was a civil engineer and her mother was a ballet instructor and she is the second of three children. She and her family moved to San Juan, Alicante when she was a child. When she was 18 years old, Rueda moved to Madrid to study architecture but she left university when she met an Italian man, Massimo whom she later married. After her first marriage ended in divorce, Rueda worked as a salesperson and a model until she finally became a TV presenter. She is best known for her roles as Lucia in the TV series Los Serrano and as Julia in The Sea Inside for which she won a Goya Award. Maria sadly died of heart disease as a baby.

Puerto Banus is situated to the southwest of Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Jose Banus, a local property developer, built it as a luxury marina and shopping complex. The lavish opening of the complex in May 1970 was attended by the Aga Khan, Roman Polanski, Hugh Hefner, Prince Rainer & Princess Grace of Monaco. 300 waiters from Seville served beluga caviar to 1700 guests and a young Julio Iglesias was hired to sing. Until about 12 years ago, Puerto Banus was so exclusive only a few people had actually heard of it but it has since become one of the largest entertainment centres in the Costa del Sol. It has about 5 million annual visitors and is popular with international celebrities and more recently the reality TV stars. Visitors to the port tend to be mostly tourists from northern Europe, especially the UK and Arabs along with Spanish tourists. The marina has 915 docking posts for berths ranging from 8 to 50 metres. Here you can see some of the most impressive yachts including those of the King of Saudi Arabia and several of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Puerto Banus beaches are very popular with The Ocean Club and La Sala Beach the places to be seen at. Behind the harbour lie streets filled with luxury boutiques such as Christian Dior, Gucci, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. Every Saturday between 9.00am & 2.00pm at the bullring, is one of the largest markets on the Costa del Sol.

There are outdoor coffee shops and restaurants catering or every taste and culture and after midnight the Port turns into a party town where the bars and night-clubs are open until the following morning. Apart from the chain of restaurants and boutiques in the heart of Antonio Banderas Square is one of the largest El Corte Ingles department stores in Spain. In 1956 Salvador Dali created a three-ton statue of a rhinoceros, officially known as Rinoceronte vestido con puntillas (rhinoceros dressed in lace), which was placed in Puerto Banus in 2004. Another impressive statue is that of La Victoria which was a gift from the Mayor of Moscow. It is 85 foot tall and was unveiled in 1994. Puerto Banus is a beautiful place to holiday with its stunning port, beaches, great shops, play area for children, restaurants, bars & clubs. And if you are looking for a something extra special why not book a yacht charter from Bluewater Marbella. Check out the next two pages for more information.

As a magazine it is always brilliant for us to interact with all of our advertisers and when possible try their products and services for ourselves. Well to our pleasant surprise we received an invitation from Captain Pat of Bluewater Marbella to board his vessel the ‘ANA LUIS’ and we jumped at the chance to have a glimpse of what delights his client’s experience. We were greeted onboard by Captain Pat and his deck hand, Mark, both of whom were dressed in smart attire and we were shown around the boat. After the additional 8 guests arrived onboard that we were introduced to, we were taken through the necessary safety procedures. We were then asked if we needed any sun tan lotion which they keep onboard. (Although we declined, it was a big mistake – the power of the sun out at sea is strong - so always accept the lotion if offered!) We were then treated to a taster of things to come with canapés and Champagne of the highest, exquisite quality whilst we were still in the port just to get our taste buds tingling. All the fresh food is professionally created and served and with Captain Pat’s meticulous eye to detail it was almost a shame to dig into the gourmet display: But we just had to do it! When everyone was ready the powerful engines were fired up and we set off out of the port into the shimmering blue Mediterranean Sea. It seemed very strange at first, as we did not know any of the other couples onboard but within minutes everyone was chatting to each other and enjoying the sunshine and company.

Canapés & Champagne just for Starters

Captain Pat at the helm Mark made sure we had plenty of soft drinks, beers or spirits during our trip and catered to our every whim in a polite and professional manner whilst Captain Pat was at the helm. Being very knowledgeable Pat knows just about everything there is to know about the waters and scenery we were viewing and is always chatting away, answering questions clients may have. After cruising by for some time in the glorious sunshine and being treated like Kings and Queens the boat anchored off a scenic stretch of coastline. We were treated yet again to more gourmet cuisine and of course drink whilst we took in the scenery, relaxing but keeping our eyes open, hoping to see the local dolphins. You also had the opportunity to swim in the sea and enjoy the rich blue shimmer of the water with an expert looking out for your safety. Everyone took the opportunity to do the Titanic scene at the front of the boat whilst it was anchored. When everyone was fed, watered and relaxed, the anchor was lifted and we started our cruise back to the port. As we re entered the port the cruiser was professionally reversed into the berth where it all started and our new friendships were made. Would we recommend a charter with Bluewater Marbella? Oh yes 100%. Moving is recognised as one of life's most stressful experiences. Whether you are buying and selling or moving home for the first time, taking control of the situation can help to reduce your stress levels. Not only do your have the worry of finding a home that meets your needs at the right price, you have to find a buyer with a suitable offer, find the deposit funds, deal with solicitors, secure a mortgage, complete endless paperwork, pay numerous fess, risk being guzumped, pack and unpack. It's not surprising it all gets too emotional. Even before you start looking for a new home, think hard about what you are trying to accomplish by moving home and how it will improve your family's life. Once you get caught up in the laborious process of buying and selling, it is easy to lose sight of the reasons you are going through all this stress. You will have days when you say to yourself, "Why the heck am I doing this?" Having a future goal in front of you energises you to achieve it, in spite of setbacks and frustrations. There is nothing worse than viewing a house and finding out that your mortgage lender won't stretch to meet the offer. Never start looking for the house of your dreams, even if you just want ideas. If you are selling a property, wait until you get a sale underway before you start house hunting. You will be in a quicker position to move, which is attractive to a seller and you will able to inform your mortgage lender of the funds you have available. Then you will be able to form an Agreement in Principle with your mortgage lender. If you are a first time buyer get a mortgage Agreement in Principle first. But remember to account for the costs of moving, which runs into thousands. Consider the deposit - usually five to 10 per cent of the purchase price, possible mortgage arrangement fees, surveying costs, solicitor fees, search fees, estate agent commission, stamp duty and removal costs. Don't forget how much you can afford in the long-term once all the bills start flooding in.

When you think you have the right house, don't be bullied into making a quick offer. View the property at least twice and look beyond the finished look of each room. Try to ignore that the seller, your lender and the solicitors have taken over your life. But remember that you are their customer and they should be working for you. Some times you might need to take control and chase responses so be authoritative. This process has a habit of frequently stalling, so make sure everyone is doing their bit to get things moving again. Stay on top of the correspondence. When it comes to buying or selling, anything can happen between agreeing an offer and completion. You could end up throwing ÂŁ1,000 down the drain if a suitable contract cannot be agreed upon. This happens and if you anticipate it in advance, you won't get so angry. Aim to overestimate the costs by ÂŁ1,000, so you can take a knock on the chin and get back on your feet again.

The love affair with Spanish property is still in its honeymoon stage for a vast majority of British overseas property owners. Many thousands of Brits are buying property in Spain every year, but too many are investing money with their eyes closed by failing to carry out a building survey on their new home. The importance of having a survey carried out cannot be overlooked when buying a property in Spain as there are a number of things that could go wrong with the property which are not immediately obvious to the untrained eye, warns Banco Halifax Hispania. Although surveying fees will increase the purchase cost, this sum is a relatively small price to pay for peace of mind, compared to the expense of trying to sort out unexpected difficulties in the future. It also makes sense to know exactly what you are buying into. A building surveyor will help to identify any major or minor faults and their possible implications. Finding out about these potential problems at an early stage of buying may even help the renegotiation of a cheaper sales price to reflect the cost of repairs. In a full buildings survey, walls will be tested for damp and an evaluation will be made on existing damp-proofing, insulation and drainage. They will also be able to recommend any further inspections. This process is likely to be much smoother if the surveyor in Spain is fluent in English and has local knowledge and experience of acting for British customers. It is also good practice to use an independent solicitor rather than one that has been appointed by the agent that you are buying property from in order to protect your best interests.

Banco Halifax Hispania has an approved panel of English-speaking Spanish surveyors who can assist you during your property purchase. They can also recommend English-speaking Spanish solicitors who will ensure that all aspects of the purchase, including planning permission, title deeds and other legal requirements, are satisfactory and will investigate the property as thoroughly as possible. They will also be able to carry out searches and legal investigations and check that there are no outstanding debts on the property. Ian Smith, head of European Operations at Halifax, comments: “Our approved panel of independent solicitors and surveyors are all experts who can provide sound guidance and reliable advice and we recommend that anyone intending to purchase property in Spain arranges a consultation as early as possible. “Few people would consider buying a property in the UK without instructing a solicitor or surveyor and the same care and consideration should be taken when buying abroad. Banco Halifax Hispania offers a range of current accounts and mortgages for Britons looking to buy a holiday home in Spain. For more information on their services for Spanish property buyers, visit their website (www.halifax.es). They also provide an English-speaking helpline within the UK for customers who wish to sort out their financial options prior to arriving in Spain. The helpline answers queries about what is involved in buying in Spain and can arrange for the completion of mortgage and bank account application papers. The customer service team can be reached on 0845 6003603.

We were recently invited to the new office of Moneycorp, now located in La Cala de Mijas and given the opportunity to meet the team behind the international money transfer company. With wrongly pre-conceived ideas of “money men” we were put totally at ease with the approachability of Stephen, the companies regional manager. We sat sipping coffee in the sunshine and found out about the company and the all-important staff. Moneycorp have been in business for 34 years and provide an excellent exchange rate on money transfers, no matter what the amount. If you’re not quite familiar with the name Moneycorp now, you certainly will be in the future because if you fly from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Bristol, Southend or Southampton Moneycorp is the company behind the Bureau de Change at these airports. Moneycorp moved to their bright and inviting office in La Cala in October last year and have found that business is booming in the beautiful town centre. The five staff members, Stephen, Karen, Cookie, Chris and Alexandra, whose backgrounds include real estate, retail sales and finance, have a combined total of 62 years in Spain and all of them say that they love the lifestyle here. With 8 children between them, 5 of whom were born in Spain, they said what they liked the most was the freedom living here allowed and the great schooling for the children. Another big plus was, of course, the gorgeous food and beautiful weather! Really the only thing anyone misses from the UK is family. When Stephen is not sitting behind his desk, meeting clients or doing his daily radio slots for Moneycorp, his passion is animals, in particular rescuing strays. He currently has 7 dogs and 5 cats at his home and has also re-homed another 12 strays. To hear Stephen on the radio tune into Talk Radio everyday at 9.40 or Spectrum FM between 11.00 and 12.00 or on Thursday you can catch him on YJT FM (formerly Heart FM) at 3.00. Here Stephen will keep you updated with the latest financial information from around the world. For a no obligation chat contact Moneycorp on 952 587 657 and don’t forget to mention Across Spain.

Well here we go again, uncertainty creeping back into the markets, Is it because its summer and its getting hot or is there some possible other reason lurking underneath? Thankfully I can say there is another reason. During the last couple of months we had experienced some nice rises in the stock markets which in turn had fuelled some volatility in the currency markets, now we have seen some profit taking as investors became worried that the Federal Reserve in the USA were to slowdown their financial support to the American economy which in turn could have an impact upon how much money is in circulation and of course our pockets. So lets stay with news from the USA, thankfully their economy is recovering and latest data shows that durable goods orders and consumer confidence are both rising. Add this to the latest housing statistics that show house prices are rising at a rate of 12% per year which is the fastest since 2006 then it all starts to sound good. Unfortunately if you were now buying in San Francisco it will cost you around 24% more this year than last. In the UK people were enjoying shopping sprees as they spent more in May than they did in April and retail sales were up around 2.1% and it seems most retailers other than department stores saw an increase particularly in food stores. Ok inflation took a little bit of a rise at 2.7% year on year and may continue to rise but generally speaking it seems consumers are feeling just a little bit happier. With Sir Mervyn King chairing his last meeting for The Bank of England there was nothing in the date that was unexpected and therefore ho had to wave goodbye keeping interest rates on hold and agree to no further quantitative easing. The new governor Mr Mark Carney started on the 1st July and has appointed a new chief operating officer whose first task maybe will be to find a new finance director so with a new boss comes a new team. Here in the euro zone we have seen Greece change its government again, Cyprus querying the terms of its bailout package (or not) and the latest set of Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) rising by around 1.2% to 48.9% but still falling below the 50 mark which separates growth from contraction, the good news however is that the new figure is a 15 month high. One of the concerns across the euro zone at the moment is the increasing cost of government sovereign debt particularly here in Spain and Italy, albeit hovering around the 5% mark for 10 year bonds which is a lot lower than the unsustainable 7% figure their is worry at the continued increase. Mr Draghi from the European Central Bank has come out again and expressed how important the Outright Monetary Transactions bond buying programme is and how that should stop countries experiencing unsustainable rates in the future and of course he also believes that the euro area is much more stable now that a year ago. He is probably right as we are not now seeing those headlines "Euro to break up" and seeing odds on who will be the first country to leave the euro.

In China with slowing growth and interbank rates at a premium then the central bank has pledged to manage liquidity in the financial sector in a "flexible" manner so keep watching this space. FUSS FREE WAYS TO DECORATE If you have just splashed out a small fortune buying your dream home, the chances are that funds are now pretty tight. That is nearly always the case for first time buyers, who once they have moved into their new nest must think about how best to decorate and furnish it without breaking the bank. First think about dĂŠcor. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. It's better not to go for anything too fussy - keep it clean and simple and add splashes of detail with the occasional throw, textured cushions, strong statement artefacts and wall decorations. Even an eye-catching ceramic bowl filled with fruit can give a room designer detail. Many big furniture stores sell end of line items and have sections where they keep slightly damaged, but very inexpensive models. Also keep in mind that most furniture stores periodically sell off used furniture when they get rid of showroom samples or floor models. Ask about both possibilities when you shop.

Flea markets and charity shops can be a great source of inexpensive, one-of-a-kind interior decorating materials. If you fall in love with a piece of discount furniture, bare in mind that moving it can be an issue. Some vendors will deliver, but only at the end of the day in the case of a market and only for an additional fee. Don't be afraid to bargain. Flea market vendors expect it, and with a little negotiation inexpensive items can become even cheaper. If you have any wholesale furniture warehouses in your area, consider stopping by. Buying wholesale furniture is almost always cheaper than buying retail. When looking at used furniture - or any used furnishings - don't think of what they look like now but what they could look like with a little TLC. Maybe that coffee table wouldn't look right your living room as it looks now, but sanded down and stained and it will look quite different. When looking for home furnishings, try to think outside the box. You might not want to eat off that set bright pottery plates but they might make colourful wall hangings.

Unless you have a large home, select furniture and accessories on a small scale. They'll fit into most spaces as you move them around in your home. Storage is in short supply in most homes. Select furniture pieces that offer drawers or hanging space, such as a chest of drawers or an armoire. When furnishing a living room or family room, choose two-seater sofas rather than one huge sofa. They'll be easier to move and can be used forming a corner seating area opposite each other to create a conversation spot, or separately in different rooms of your home. Select a pleasing natural or neutral colour such as tan, camel, navy, dark green or black for upholstered furniture pieces. This will be your anchor colour. Make sure the fabric is durable so it holds up under years of use. Gather together a collection of pillows, fabrics and accessories that harmonise with your anchor colour. You'll be able to change the look with the seasons, giving your furniture a new, fresh look throughout the year. On a green sofa for example, you might choose yellow floral pillows for summer and camel tapestry pillows for autumn. Buy lamps, vases, side chairs and pillows in pairs. They'll add symmetry and continuity to a room. When you're arranging furniture try to use furniture or accessories in unexpected ways, such as a love seat at the end of a bed or a big dresser that holds videotapes and DVDs. Don't be afraid to experiment. Find what works best for you in your present situation. If you've selected items with versatility in mind, you'll end up with an arrangement that's just right.

R.I.P.D RELEASE DATE: JULY 19TH 2013 STARRING: RYAN REYNOLDS JEFF BRIDGES KEVON BACON MARY LOUISE PARKER JAMES HONG

Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side. Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary R.I.P.D. police force, tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgement by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth. Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance‌.. or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

How do you judge heroics? Of course, we all know what it means to act bravely, but in the entertainment world where overblown sentiments give way to floods of hyperbole - things work a lot differently. The one thing we do know is that heroes are different to legends, unless the latter have the word 'living' tagged on the front. That certainly applies to David Bowie, who has been back on the front pages recently, thanks to that 'surprise' comeback album, which came along after a particularly long hiatus from the recording game. Not that it was a bad move, or one that should be judged cynically. His new work, The Next Day , is arguably his best since his greatest ( Heroes ). As such, it's unsurprising that it boasts that same Berliner sound (although what people associate with Germany's capital in 2013, is wildly different what they did in the late 1970s). Still, despite the criticisms that can be offered up against his later output, his overall oeuvre is staggering, and his career certainly one that deserves some celebration. Wim Hendrikse definitely agrees. Back in 2005 he compiled a now critically-acclaimed encyclopaedia on the man in question. Never Get Old: David Bowie, Man of Ch-Ch-Changes , in both its volumes, is now considered to be an indispensable reference tool for anyone who has ever felt the sudden need to find facts and anecdotes about the platinum-selling star. And if you're not amongst those die-hard followers, we can only assure you that plenty do exist, and that there's more purpose to this article than highlighting two books that are nearly a decade old. As most will have guessed by now, the author - who currently has nine books out in print - is following up the aforementioned publications with another investigation into his favourite pop superstar. David Bowie: The Man Who Changed the World may seem like a slightly overblown title, but as inferred at the top of this page, we're talking about a world where gods walk amongst men. Digressions aside, it's a genuinely impressive and immersive read, so long as you're interested in the decadence of the heady glam-rock days, which form the focal point here. Sex, drugs, and Stardust abound, if that sounds appealing then consider this a strong recommendation.

Well known for travellers seeking the safari and beach combination, Kenya has plentiful Lakes and National Parks and a plethora of wildlife. Kenya has a moderate climate with warm summers and mild, cool winters and each season has its own attractions. The dry hot season between December and February is an excellent time for bird watching and is the calving season for wildebeest and zebra. Heavy rains fall between April and May but this does not rule it out as a safari destination during this time. Your safari will be un-crowded and more reasonably priced plus there is an abundance of wildlife activity when the landscapes are green. The peak tourist season in Kenya falls largely in July and August when the wildebeest migration of the Masai Mara is present. This time of year greatly increases the chances of seeing game. Kenya’s infrastructure makes it an easy country to travel around with the more remote areas best accessed by light aircraft. You can choose to tour and enjoy a safari in several locations, or fly straight to a reserve or National Park and then on to your chosen beach resort. Most visitors combine a 5 or 6 day safari to the famous Masai Mara and Amboseli National Park.

Most visitors to these two parks will encounter leopards, lions, rhino, buffalo and elephants where the animals are used to vehicles so they are easily observed. Family safari’s and safari trips, which include children, are well catered for in Kenya as sightings of wildlife in its natural habitat is much easier. Visitors to Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru will see vivid flamingo colonies or you can take part in Nile Perch fishing in Lake Victoria, the largest tropical lake in the world. Lake Plateau is particularly popular where you can explore mountain biking, horseback safaris, camel trekking, fly fishing and bird watching. Kenya has breath taking views of the Indian Ocean and the white sand beaches are popular with those who want to finish an action packed safari with some relaxation. You can choose to spend time here or escape to the island of Lamu and Manda Bay. This area is famous for divers and snorkelers who can explore the coral gardens in the three natural marine reserves. On Kenya’s coast many of the beach resorts offer Kids Clubs for younger children with activities ranging from inland excursions to wildlife parks, snake farms and butterfly centres to arts and crafts, water games. The children are in a supervised environment that allows parents to laze pool side or on the beach without worrying about the little ones. Kenya is an ideal setting for newlyweds & honeymooners have been drawn here for years. They can combine the magic of a safari with the romantic luxury of the beaches on the Mombassa coastline. Couples can enjoy candle lit beach dinners and get lost in the romance of this beautiful land.

Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their shopping trolleys through the supermarket when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy, “Sorry about that. I’m looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.” The young guy says, “That’s OK, it’s a coincidence. I’m looking for my wife too… I can’t find her and I’m getting a little desperate.” The old guy says, “Well maybe I can help you find her…. What does she look like?” The young guy says, “Well she is 27 years old, tall with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom…, long legs and is wearing a mini skirt. What does your wife look like?” To which the old guy says “Doesn’t matter…. Let’s look for yours.”

AMISH ELEVATOR A fifteen-year-old Amish boy and his father were in a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, “What is this Father?” The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, “Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.”

While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheelchair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially.

The continued to watch until it reached the last number …. and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24 year old blonde stepped out.

The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son….. “Go get your mother!”

The average consumer is now saving nearly ÂŁ30 a month making their own packed lunch as more and more of us tighten up on our daily spending. Nearly 70% of Brits now make a packed lunch - 45% more than in those heady recession-free days when eating out was virtually a national obsession. But it's not just our bank balance that has benefited from home-made lunches with a new culinary trend of pimping up the British sandwich to make lunchtime a more glamorous affair heralding the development of the glamwich. With one in five consumers adding fancy fillings to make their lunches more exciting and healthier than shop-bought alternatives, there are endless examples of aesthetics taking lunchmaking to an alluring new level: A third of all consumers use high-quality cheese to add a touch of glamour A fifth buy more interesting bread One in 10 sandwich-makers add olives or pesto Nearly a fifth add sweet chilli sauce 12% try to replicate sandwiches they have seen or bought in shops The survey of more than 2,000 Brits by Pilgrim's Choice and Censuswide found that saving money is the main reason 45% make their own lunches. Nearly half of them choose to make a sandwich enough to fill 48 double decker buses a day. Nutrition expert Dr Carina Norris says: Sandwiches shouldn't be boring and making your own means you choose exactly what goes into them, so you can control the fat and salt content, maximise the amount of nutritious salad and help achieve your daily nutrient targets. Try to include a variety of different vegetables in your sandwiches - different veg contain different vitamins and other healthy plant compounds, so eating a variety is a great way to help ensure you get all the nutrients you need. Salad leaves, baby spinach, cress, watercress, tomato, cucumber, grated carrot, thinly sliced radish, beetroot, finely chopped celery and peppers are just a few ideas. Thin slices of apple work well too - they're especially good with cheese.

For further ideas to put the rock back into your lunch roll, Pilgrims Choice has launched a free smartphone app Good Sandwich Pilgrim with plenty of categories and over 100 sandwiches to inspire your sandwich making - Glamwich, Speedy, Cheap Eats, Healthy, Vegetarian, Sweet Tooth and Kids Lunchbox. Alastair Jackson, of Pilgrims Choice, says: You only need to look at popular television shows such as Masterchef, Come Dine With Me and Great British Bake Off to see that there is a huge consumer appetite for all things foodie and why should this stop when eating al desko. This research illustrates that as we celebrate the 250th year of the sandwich, consumers are taking sandwich making to a new level. There is now a renewed interest in not only the content but also a need to make presentation ever more appealing. To explore the latest recipes or download the Good Sandwich Pilgrim app, visit

LaTeteria kasbah MO’s KASBAH Welcome to our new restaurant review section. We will be sending diners out to advise you of some of the best places to eat along the Costa del Sol. Our first experience was at Mo’s Kasbah. We were invited to Mo’s Kasbah located in the Port of Fuengirola square and the team being avid lovers of Moroccan cuisine couldn’t resist the invitation. On a beautiful Friday evening we were greeted by the host and shown to our table by very polite waiting staff. The were a mix of tourists of varied nationalities and locals alike who were there to soak up the atmosphere. Moroccan style sofas and decorative artefacts surrounded us, with customers enjoying the genuine hubbly bubblies, as they are affectionately known, combined with the ambience of being in an authentic Moroccan Kasbah environment. The internal dining area of the Kasbah was decorated in full authentic Moroccan décor with the smells of the beautiful cuisine and the hubbly bubblies lingering in the air all adding to the ambience and experience. Mo was on the outside griddle and prepared us a beautiful spicy chicken shish kebab with sides of perfectly cooked rice, chips, salad and home made bread. Absolutely gorgeous, with awesome aromas to tantalise the taste buds. After all he’s been doing this for over 40 years so he has had plenty of time to perfect his culinary skills. All this food was accompanied and washed down by a full selection of beers, wines and spirits to suit everyone’s tastes.

Fuengirola Port At 23.00 we were treated to live Moroccan Music on a key board with a great vocalist accompanied by 2 beautiful Moroccan belly dancers, Julia & Jaishri, in full traditional costume dancing in-between the sofas and tables of the customers making for a personal outdoor experience. We spoke to some of the customers and Leisa & Brian Cooper, a couple from Hartlepool in the UK, who were on a 4-day break to Fuengirola summed up Mo’s Kasbah perfectly. “ The food is excellent! We wish we had opted for the large Shish kebab instead of the small, as it was delicious. We had a lovely evening and we will definitely be back next time we are in Spain and totally recommend Mos Kasbah”. Across Spain also highly recommends Mo’s Kasbah with its great food, great ambience, great entertainment, and authentic Moroccan experience at a competitive price. A fantastic night out not to be missed.

The bravery, dedication and endurance of our troops is known throughout the world and is rightly lauded. Sometimes sadly giving their lives to protect ours, the sacrifices they make are well documented and deserving of our endless thanks and respect. But there is another division which has devoted years to the military and police which also deserve our care, gratitude and respect, and that is the thousands of horses who have spent their lives in our service. And it is to reward these hard-working animals when they come to retire that The Horse Trust was set up 126 years ago. The oldest equine charity in the world, the Trust has just welcomed five very special new residents all retiring from the military after many years of service - and one of the busiest ceremonial seasons. CEO Jeanette Allen says: We are delighted to be offering a tranquil retirement to such longserving and hard-working horses. The Horse Trust has been taking in retiring army horses since the First World War and we are immensely proud of our long relationship with the armed forces. The Trust, based in Speen, Buckinghamshire, is now busy settling in Remus, Lochnagar, Commando, Zulu and Union for a long and lazy retirement. Remus, one of the oldest serving horses in the Army at 26 years of age, is the longest serving military horse still alive today. He started his military service originally as a Troop horse in the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, and latterly as an officer's charger of the Household Division.

Grey beauty Lochnagar comes from the Defence Animal Centre. Lochy comes with an illustrious show-jumping career under his belt having, with his rider, former Riding Master Capt Mark Avison, won the Services Cup at the London International Horse Show, Olympia, three years in a row. Three of the horses - Commando, Zulu and Union - come from The Blues and Royals Squadron of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in London. Stunning 15-year-old Commando has served at every high profile parade since 2002 and is one of only a few horses to have served on The Royal Wedding and both the Golden and Diamond Jubilee Parades. Commando has also been the bearer of Her Majesty's Blues and Royals Standard. Capt Simon Lukas describes Commando as having a particularly good stable disposition and apart from his dislike of horse boxes, he was an easy horse to work with. Very much liked by the members of 1 Troop, The Blues and Royals, overall he was a perfect Cavalry Black and will be missed. Squadron favourite Union is a 23-year-old named after the historic union of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals to form the Household Cavalry Regiment. He has worked for 18 years and was nick-named 'Onion' by the boys. He has served on State Escorts, Queen's Life Guard, and has also been used by Corporals Major as their Standard Horse because of his steadiness on parade. Zulu joined the Household Cavalry at the tender age of four and is now 18. He has seen a succession of soldiers rise through the ranks and there are many wizened war veterans who will shed a tear to see Zulu retire. Lt Col Richard Pope, Commanding Officer of the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray where many of the animals who serve in the military are trained, was at The Horse Trust's Home of Rest to formally hand over the five old war horses for their retirement. Adjutant of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, Capt Roly Spiller said: After one of the busiest ceremonial seasons of recent years, the Regiment wishes Zulu, Union and Commando a long and happy retirement at The Horse Trust.

Most of us want to stay fit, but exercise can be dull. If you are not the type who likes to pump iron in the gym, sweat it out pounding the pavements or swim length after boring length in your local pool, how are you going to hone your figure the way you want it? By dancing, that's how. One of the smartest ways to exercise, say sports psychologists, is to do it while also doing something you enjoy, such as dancing. You're not only more likely to do it for longer but more likely to do it more intensely. Singing and bopping along while your favourite performer's CD is on the player is one way of doing it. But better still is to enrol in a dance class. Great for kicking those calories is the sexy salsa, the Latin dance craze that first hit Britain in the mid-70s. It's a heady fusion of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances performed to hot rhythms. Over the past few years it's become much more mainstream and hugely popular, with classes and salsa nights now widely available. It's super-sociable and sexy and offers one hot workout. Generally, it's pretty energetic and involves lots of steps and turns so you'll get an aerobic workout doing it. How many calories you burn depends entirely on how long and how intensely you do it, as with any exercise. To really see the fat-blasting effects though you need to do it non-stop for at least 20-30 minutes at a time, intensively and regularly, at least a few times a week. Salsa specifically focuses on moving the hips from side to side and turning. Rotating the torso is something most people neglect in their workouts. "Our bodies are designed to twist and turn," says Nick Hudson, head trainer at Holmes Place Academy. "These days we lead sedentary lifestyles, which means we don't work the muscles that rotate our spines enough, which can make us prone to injury. Salsa is a good way of gently waking these torso muscles up and helps to lightly tone your midriff as well as your legs." If salsa doesn't sound like your thing, there are loads of other dance styles which you may find more appealing, each one working on your body in a different way but all brilliant at keeping you trim and healthy. Tap is tipped to be the next big thing. It's energetic and exuberant fun. Belly dancing has soared in popularity lately as a glamorous way to exercise, plus you get to wear sexy outfits. Ballet is the latest keep fit craze of the stars, jazz is young and funky, while flamenco will allow you to stamp your feet in fiery passion. Check out what's on offer in your area by looking in a local further education prospectus. It is a good place start and costs are always affordable.

ROMANTIC SUCCESS ROOTED IN CHILDHOOD If you are continually unlucky in love, you may begin to wonder what on earth may be wrong with you. You probably ask yourself: 'Is it me?' Research in a leading journal of psychology suggests relationships are often shaped by early experiences of social interaction, so perhaps it could be you after all. In a report published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology , it is suggested that the way in which you think, feel and behave in your adult romantic relationships is governed not only by what's happening in your current life, but is also a direct result of your past. This can include previous romantic relationships as well as social relations extending all the way back to childhood. Following 78 people over a period of 25 years, the report authors studied four pivotal points in their lives: infancy, early childhood, adolescence and adulthood. At the first checkpoint, when the participants were 12 months old, caregivers reported on the children's attachment and exploratory behaviour. At the second checkpoint, when the participants were 6 to 8 years old, the participants' teachers were asked to rate how well the children interacted with their peers. At the third checkpoint, 16-year-olds were asked to describe their close friendships. At the forth checkpoint, the participants' romantic partners were asked to describe their experiences and their partner's expressions of emotion during their relationship. Interactions between couples were then observed, to evaluate their expression of emotion. The findings of this study suggest that the expression of emotions in adult romantic relationships can be related to a person's attachment experiences during earlier social development. Those participants who were secure and attached as infants were rated as having higher social competence as children. Children who were socially competent among peers were found to be more secure and closer to their friends at age 16. Participants who were closer to friends as a teen were more expressive and emotionally attached to their romantic partners in early adulthood. "The findings highlight one developmental pathway through which significant relationship experiences during the early years of life are tied to romantic relationships during early adulthood," said W Andrew Collins, the report's lead author. "One encouraging finding, however, is that the study does not suggest that an individual's past unalterably determines the future course of his/her relationships." Collins points out that the report is not suggesting that people cannot overcome ongoing relationship difficulties. If you seem to fall out of one bad relationship and into another, it could well be you at the heart of the problem, but that doesn't mean you will never live happily ever after. However, it might be worth thinking about whether your relationships seem to follow a familiar pattern. Admitting that "it's not you, it's me" may be just what you need to stop repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

THE CRAZY WORLD OF INSURANCE CLAIMS We all need insurance. You never know what is going to happen to your valued possessions. And sometimes truth is stranger than fiction when it comes to the bizarre accidents that happen to people's belongings, judging by some of the odd insurance claims that have been made. Most people take out home contents insurance to protect their possessions from the unexpected, such as theft or accidents. However, a recent survey has unearthed some of the more unusual reasons that prompted people to file claims on their contents insurance. These might sound funny but each was a real-life claim: A diamond eaten by a small child; A digital camera eaten by a dog; A broken window, caused by a woman who threw a plate at her husband but missed; A video recorder damaged when someone tried to put a sandwich in the tape slot; A contact lens which fell from the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa; A dining chair that melted in the sun; A pram, fortunately empty, which was damaged when a woman reversed over it in her car; A missing copy of the Bible . The survey was conducted by Lloyds TSB Insurance. Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds Insurance, said, "With millions of homeowners in the UK, there's bound to be variety in the types of claims insurers receive. Even so it's always surprising what people will admit to." Apparently not all of these claims were covered by contents insurance, showing it pays to check what you're covered for before you take out a policy.

HOW TO PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT WITH THE DEALER If you have decided that you want to step into a brand new car with its unique new smell, pristine bodywork and interior and only a few delivery miles on the clock, you have several sources - a dealer, importing or a car broker. And at none of these should you pay the manufacturer's advertised price. For most people the first stop is the dealer's showroom. Be under no illusions about what happens here. The idea is for you to get enthused about a car and for the salesman to part you from as much cash as possible. The first step is easy enough. Visit the showrooms selling the sort of car you're interested in. This assumes you have some flexibility, but even if you're totally wedded to the idea of buying a particular brand, it makes sense to compare what other carmakers' similar vehicles are offering in terms of price and features. Sit in the car to get a feel for it. Then go away. Take time to reflect on different models and makes. When you have a shortlist of one or two vehicles you should ask for a test drive. The idea of a test drive from the dealer's point of view is to get you in a one-to-one situation where you can hear about how wonderful the car is and where the salesman can start to work out your budget and be thinking of extra things he can sell to you. The test drive from your point of view should be about discovering whether the car is pleasant and comfortable to drive, and has the sort of performance and features you want. So a 10-minute spin around the block doesn't help much. Ideally you want the car for a full day, but that's rarely an option. But ask to try the car on different types of road - urban, rural, motorway, on hills and on the flat. And if you have particular concerns, such as whether it will fit easily in your garage, and assuming you live fairly near the show room, ask to try it out. The degree to which the salesman is willing to cooperate will vary, and you, as the buyer of a very expensive piece of equipment, must make up your own mind as to whether he is trying hard enough to accommodate your reasonable requests.

Before you get to the point where you start talking seriously to this showroom about money, it's worth ringing around the country to ask other dealers in the same brand for their best price on that particular car. You might be amazed to discover that some will immediately quote a much lower price as the starting point for negotiations. It gives you an idea of where to expect haggling to start with your local garage. And, if you're getting nowhere locally and the best price is in Penzance or Inverness, don't forget that delivery shouldn't be a problem anywhere in the UK from any dealer. If you want to save a bit more money, you could ask about ex-demonstrator models. These will certainly come with a handsome discount, but they're in big demand and short supply, so don't hold your breath waiting for one. Unless you're very lucky and very pushy, the salesman will be far keener to sell the brand new version for which he can relieve you of more money. It is important when dealing with a showroom to remember exactly what you want and not be talked into things you don't, such as a more powerful or better featured model, extra warranties, insurance, enhanced paintwork protection or expensive finance. In negotiations the salesman will ask numerous questions about what you want and about your budget. It makes sense to be honest about what you want, but don't be immediately swayed to opt for something you're not totally sure about. If in doubt, go away and think about it. Remember that some times in the year are slacker for dealers, so you may be able to negotiate a better price. It wouldn't be unusual to find a 10 per cent or more discount in December, while in busier months you won't get more than a few per cent off. And when business is slow, there may be lots more "special offers" about. Just make sure you read the small print to ensure any offer is as good as it sounds. Equally, very popular models will "sell themselves" so the salesman doesn't have to work too hard on his generosity; you will have to pay more and could face a longer delivery time. Finally, be careful with any trade-in. If your car is a few years old, you will get an idea of what it's worth by looking at similar models on the forecourt. Then take off a few hundred as the realistic selling price, the cost of servicing and cleaning and the dealer's profit margin. If that adds up to an even ÂŁ1,000, it's hardly unreasonable. If your car is older, expect to receive the "bottom book" price, as it's likely to be sent off to auction. Know this value beforehand by checking one of the used car price guides, such as Glass's , available in many news agents. In any case, weigh any trade-in price along with any discount on the new car's price. A smaller discount and a big trade-in may seem attractive, but represent poorer value than a moderate discount and a moderate trade-in figure.
