2024-2025 IMPORTANT REVISIONS We would like to make you aware of some changes to Chaminade’s course offerings and credit requirements beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. After considering what our students need to be appropriately challenged and engaged, we have made changes that we believe will offer more student choice and flexibility in the course selection process, while still providing a foundational and well-rounded academic experience. Counselors are explaining all changes to students during their one-on-one scheduling meetings. The significant adjustments are outlined below. At the High School level we have altered the graduation credit requirements in some academic departments. We have moved from 4 to 3 credits in Social Studies, 2 to 1.5 credits in Physical Education, and opened up a .5 credit that was designated for Practical Arts or Visual and Performing Arts. This has allowed us to increase the elective credits from 5 to 7. Students will still earn 30 required credits by taking a minimum of 8 credits their freshman and sophomore year and 7 credits their junior and senior year. We have also adjusted when students are required to take certain classes in order to accommodate particular course selection combinations. For example, a high school sophomore who wants to take Band and STEM, can meet their PE and Composition requirements during their junior or senior year. For clarification, here is the high school course sequence. In the Middle School, we have added a quarter-long Enrichment course at each grade level that will teach students about the learning processes, how it impacts them as individuals, and how they can apply what they know about their learning style to projects in the course and across all academic disciplines. We have also provided a pathway for Band students to select one or two quarter electives offered; Art, Drama, STEM, Enrichment. For clarification, here is the middle school course sequence. Our hope is that these course and credit adjustments will allow students to meet Chaminade’s academic requirements, provide opportunities to pursue areas of interest, and guide them towards college and career goals.
