PRESIDENT’S LETTER

It is always exciting to wrap up another school year. The highlight of spring is always the festivities surrounding graduation weekend and the commencement ceremony. Seeing the families and students recognize the impact Chaminade has had on them through the relationships forged with classmates and teachers, the opportunities afforded to them inside and outside of the classroom, and the realization that they will soon move on from a place they have called home for many years is gratifying and inspiring. It serves as a good reminder of why we do the work we do. They are most certainly changed for the better and are more prepared to be the men the world needs them to be.

In this edition of the Esto Vir Magazine, we spotlight the remarkable accomplishments and achievements of the Class of 2024. They’ve made their mark on our school, and our community is forever grateful.

This academic year has proven to be one of significant milestones for the school. We had record enrollment in our middle school. The Chaminade Fund exceeded both dollar and participation goals for the year. Marianist Hall is coming together rather nicely, taking its place as a prominent and imposing fixture on our campus. And renovations to the Immaculate Conception Chapel are set to begin during the summer. This, in addition to many student achievements and accomplishments, signals to us that Chaminade is poised for growth and improvement in every facet of the school.

And while these indicators are strong, more significant things happened during this school year. Most importantly, the faith lives of our students were formed and enhanced. They continue to see examples of Gospel values in one another and in their teachers. Relationships were developed and strengthened, bringing to life our coveted Family Spirit. Strong communities build strong people, and the sense of community among our student body is palpable. Students learned to connect and apply the content in their classes to the life they are living.

The work being done at Chaminade is transformative. Each day, the values and virtues of Esto Vir are being taught and modeled for our students, and the men of the Class of 2024 are perfect examples of a mission fulfilled. They are indeed prepared to change the lives of the people they encounter and to meet the needs of today’s world.

Esto Vir!

A LOSS ON THE COURT, BUT A TRIUMPH OF FAMILY SPIRIT

In life, and in sports, we tend to learn a lot more about ourselves in losses than we do the wins. So was the case following Chaminade Basketball’s loss in the State Championship Game, where after a heart-breaking defeat, the young men rallied around the team’s lone senior as the realization hit him that he had just played his last game in a Chaminade uniform.

My’kel Rachel ’24, who has been a cornerstone of the Chaminade Basketball team, faced an emotional end to his high school basketball career. As the final buzzer sounded, his teammates immediately surrounded him, offering words of encouragement and comfort. They understood the weight of the moment for Rachel, whose journey with the team had reached its culmination. This act of solidarity highlighted the team’s commitment to supporting one another through both triumph and defeat, exemplifying the Family Spirit that defines the Chaminade experience.

The support extended beyond the team, with the entire student body demonstrating incredible dedication and loyalty. For two consecutive days, students traveled two hours to Columbia, Missouri to cheer on their classmates. Their presence was felt in the stands, where enthusiasm and energy never wavered. This support didn’t wane after the final whistle. The students stayed to cheer off the team, sharing in the grief of their Chaminade brothers, and letting them know they were proud of the effort that had been put forth.

Adding to this uplifting scene was the presence of Miss Emily Byrne, a figure who embodies the Chaminade

Family Spirit. Despite her son having graduated nearly 10 years ago, Miss Byrne continues to travel to support “her boys.” Her dedication was evident as she stood at the entrance to the locker room, offering each player a heartfelt hug as they exited the court. Her actions speak volumes about the enduring bonds formed at Chaminade, demonstrating that once a part of the Chaminade Family, always a part of the Chaminade Family.

The visible support at Mizzou’s spring football game further illustrated this spirit. Between games, Chaminade students, parents, alumni, and friends, traveled to Faurot Field to cheer on Brady Cook ’20 and get a peek at what will be his final season at Mizzou. The vibrant display of Chaminade red and white amidst the predominant Mizzou black and gold was not just a show of school pride but a testament to the tightknit community’s resilience and solidarity. Cook returned the show of support later in the evening, coming to Mizzou Arena to cheer on his alma mater in the championship game, bringing Missouri Running Back, now San Francisco 49ers Running Back, Cody Schrader with him.

Chaminade’s loss in the State Championship may have been a setback on the scoreboard, and it should serve as motivation for next season. But it revealed how the Chaminade experience goes far beyond 425 South Lindbergh. It showed how even in the toughest of times, it is our Family Spirit that defines us.

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER

Preparing our students “to be the men the world needs them to be” is a frequently quoted line from Chaminade’s mission statement, and in all honesty, one that can keep me up at night. As the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Assessment, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to be preparing our students for the next phase of their education and life through our academic program. But how do we design the courses and identify the assessment formats that are effective today, yet due to the pace of our world, may be obsolete tomorrow? Whether considering advances in AI technology, concerns about our environment, shifting political and social landscapes, the world on our students’ first day of sixth or ninth grade is going to look very different than the world they graduate into.

These 2 a.m. thoughts often come from a place of fear and uncertainty. How do we possibly take on this daunting task? But more often than not, they quickly shift to a place of excitement and gratitude. What a gift that we get to do such meaningful work. That sentiment is shared by the administration and faculty at Chaminade and the energy that comes from it allows us to continue to brainstorm, plan, innovate, and grow, so that we can best serve our students now and into the unknown future.

Chaminade’s administration and faculty have been working on several initiatives that all help to address this new education paradigm we find ourselves in, including curriculum analysis, the development of a Modern Learning Department, a redesign of our academic supports and enrichment opportunities, and a new emphasis on career exploration.

Chaminade faculty have been developing curriculum maps for each of the courses they teach. By articulating the understandings, knowledge, and skills that students should have at the end of a course, they are able to collaborate with colleagues in their department and across divisions to analyze the curriculum. Through this work, we are able to determine where gaps and overlaps occur, where there is content that supports our

DEI initiatives, and where Characteristics of Marianist Education are infused. Through this ongoing process, we are able to take both a micro and macro look at the curriculum to determine if what we are teaching and how we are teaching it is relevant and adjust as needed.

Chaminade is bringing several academic entities together to form a Modern Learning Department. The Instructional Technology Department, Library Sciences Department, and Academic Support and Enrichment Department are merging with the goal of addressing the needs of Modern Learners. These departments will be physically housed in the library and collaborate to further support our students and faculty in building modern learning skills including digital literacy, research, and self-directed learning.

Chaminade is expanding our Academic and Enrichment Support Department by adding an additional Learning Consultant. The new team will continue to work with our students with diagnosed learning differences while also restructuring programs and support for all students. The first phase of this includes the implementation of Middle School enrichment elective courses and the development of Learning Teams to provide more systematic intervention plans when needed.

And finally, Chaminade is in the early planning stages of a Career Exploration program. Over the next several years, we are hoping to provide students with opportunities to take a closer look at job fields that interest them. This may include curriculum connections, expert panels, speaker series, job shadow days, and internships. We are excited to examine ways that we can give our students real world exposure to possible career paths as they discern their life beyond Chaminade.

It brings me comfort to know that Chaminade is taking these steps in preparing our students for an uncertain future. But I find even greater peace in knowing that all of this academic work is being done alongside our character and spiritual formation. Because regardless of the world our graduates are stepping into, if they are good menkind men, thoughtful men, patient men, empathetic men - they will always be the men the world needs them to be.

The Chaminade Class of 2024 fully embraced the concept of servant leadership, embodying the principle that true leadership stems from serving others. Throughout their journey, these young men consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the well-being and growth of their peers and community. They understood that leadership is not about wielding power but about empowering others, offering their time, talents, and compassion to uplift their fellow students, and move the mission of Chaminade forward.

Their dedication to servant leadership reflects a profound understanding that to be a man is to recognize that one’s life is meant for others. The Class of 2024 internalized this philosophy, integrating it into their daily lives and interactions. They showed that true fulfillment and purpose comes from selflessly contributing to the greater good, rather than seeking personal accolades. This perspective fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual support within their cohort, as they continually lifted each other up and worked collaboratively towards common goals. By prioritizing the needs of others, they cultivated an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered, and leave Chaminade a better place than they found it.

The Class of 2024 leaves a legacy that will be hard to match, but one that all future classes should strive for.

Esto Vir, Gentlemen.

ATHLETICS

TRACK & FIELD

The 2024 track & field team had one of its best years in recent memory with nearly seventy student-athletes participating. Top performers in the throws included Brady Gordon ’26, in the javelin, Kyle Russel ’24, and Jackson Otto ’24 in the discus and Andrew Howell ’25 who, after a State qualifying performance last year, returned as one of the top shot putters in the area. In the jumps, My’Kel Rachel ’24 joined the team for the first time and is clearing over 6’ while Jason Rea ’24 continued his reign as long jump champion of the MCC. The distance squad returns two-time State qualifiers Alex Cattoor ’24, Mitch Hardeman ’24, Joe DiGuiseppe ’25, and Harry Lierman ’25 and the sprinters are led by Grant Coughlin ’24, who has been in the top three in every meet this year in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Overall the varsity team placed second in the highly competitive Metro Catholic Conference, and capped off their season with a third place finish at districts and had a strong overall showing at state.

BASKETBALL

The 2023-2024 Chaminade Basketball season was a fun, exciting season! Finishing with a 22-10 record, the team played a challenging schedule, which included victories over Millwood (Oklahoma), Whitney Young (IL), and Vashon. Furthermore, Chaminade was Co-MCC Champions this season, sharing the title with De Smet. Other highlights of the season included beating CBC for the third time this season to win the district championship on our home floor culminating in the Class 6 state runner-up. Together, our young men made the Chaminade community proud both on and off of the court!

HOCKEY

The hockey team had a slow start to the 23-24 season because of a full program restructure that took place at the end of last season. We brought in a whole new coaching staff that changed the style of play we wanted to pursue here at Chaminade. As we slowly built our confidence, the program took off in a direction that we haven’t seen in some time. We took back the Marianist Cup from Vianney for the first time in seven years, and we finished the regular season as the #5 seed in all of high school hockey with a record of 11-7-2. The team’s playoff run was short lived, but the group is primed and ready to make a huge splash in 2024!

RACQUETBALL

The Chaminade JV-1 Racquetball Team (Cam Ramthun ’24, Charles Koenen ’25, Jack Fichter ’24, Derek Hess ’24, Logan Zwirn ’24, & Liam Hanrahan ’24) finished the regular season with a 5-5 team record. In the state championship, the team finished in 5th place out of 10 teams. Cal Ramthun and Derek Hess had excellent tournaments, finishing in 3rd place as the #1 seed and 2nd place as the #4 seed.

The JV-2 Racquetball team (Joey Giardina ’26, Hunter Lewis ’26, Ben Fischer ’26, Bobby Cima ’27, Lucas Licker ’25, Alex Barnes ’26) finished the regular season with a 3-6 record. In the state championship, the team finished in 5th place. Joey Giardina, after having battled back from an early season injury, finished in 1st place as the #1 seed.

ATHLETICS

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

2024 brought new faces to the Ultimate Frisbee team – including a senior, Hayden Falb, and two juniors, Charlie Walbrandt and Jackson Giessman. The team leveled up this year and earned the 10th seed (out of 20) at the state tournament on May 4th. Undermanned during all five games due to injury and illness, the small squad played every game without subs, known in the sport as ’savage’. The team responded with a win over the 4th seed, SLUH, knocking them out of contention and shocking everyone at the tournament. Capt. Patrick Struckhoff, ’25, led the way all season, earning All-Star honors, with Ben Fischer ’26 winning Rookie of the Year for his performance in the upset against SLUH. Next year, the team looks to continue its momentum and finish even higher at the state championship.

TENNIS

The varsity tennis team had a very successful season this spring of 2024. The overall dual match record was 17-6. The varsity tennis team finished with a 5-1 record in the Holt Team Tournament and finished in 3rd place. For the first time since 2018, the team finished in 1st place in the flighted MCC Team Tournament. Individual MCC champions include Tate Wojciechowski ’24 in the 2nd singles flight, Jack Bryan ’24 in the 3rd singles flight, Clark Schmitz ’24 in the 4th singles flight, and Brandon Corry ’25/Dennison Haines ’24 in the 2nd doubles flight. Tristan McKean ’24 & Alec Yalavarthi ’24 earned silver medals in the 1st doubles flight, while Tristan Lloyd ’26 was also captured the silver medal in the 1st singles flight.

LACROSSE

Chaminade Lacrosse had another successful season throughout all levels. Our four middle school teams competed in their respective Jr MSLA tournaments in the spring, ending with a 2nd-place finish by our 6th grade team in the 12U division and a championship in the 14U division by our Esto Vir team. Our high school teams were similarly successful–an undefeated season by the freshmen team, and an 11-3 record for the JV team. After a playoff victory against Lindbergh, the Varsity season ended with an overtime loss in the MSLA Quarterfinals to De Smet. Multiple awards were earned by the varsity squad: nine All-Conference recipients and senior John Nicpon earning MCC Offensive Player of the Year along with his first team All-State recognition.

VOLLEYBALL

In the inaugural fully MSHSAA sanctioned boys volleyball season, the Chaminade Red Devils had a commendable performance in an ever-evolving league. Concluding with a record of 14-19-1, the team battled with some formidable opponents through a condensed and demanding season: playing a total of 100 sets in 34 matches over the eight-week season. Led by captains Jack Temporiti ’24, and Max Carr ’24, and bolstered by strong performances from Bode Steinbecker ’24, Ryan Frick ’24, and newcomer, Hector Lopez-Rovira ’25, the Red Devils had a strong showing through a very challenging conference and district draw.

Temporiti was recognized on the First All-District Team and the Second All-Conference Team. Carr, Frick, Lopez-Rovira, and Steinbecker all earned honorable mentions in the MCC AllConference and District All-Conference. Additionally, six members of the team earned Academic All-State honors: Max Carr ’24, Ryan Frick ’24, Tyler Krentz ’24, Hector Lopez-Rovira ’25, Quinn Mattingly ’26, and Teddy O’Bryan ’24.

This year’s team helped to revitalize the program and enhance its reputation. With developing freshmen and junior varsity teams under the guidance of a dynamic and experienced coaching staff, the future of Red Devil Volleyball looks promising!

WATER POLO

The 2024 Chaminade Water Polo season was a big step forward for the program. A senior-laden team was represented by Tyler Chaney, Mikey Gill, Grant Petruska, Chernet Kelrick, Hunter Michalak, Brady Noonan, and Richie Wikiera. The varsity team ended the regular season with a record of 15-5 and ranked #6 in the state. A highlight of the season was a hard fought win against #4 ranked Oakville on their senior night. Not to be outdone, the junior varsity team didn’t lose a game to another JV team during the regular season. This includes wins against top programs Parkway West and Parkway Central, resulting in a second seed in the postseason playoff tournament. In the finals of the JV State Tournament, our team put forward tremendous effort but fell short to SLUH. The future looks bright as the core of the players returning are made up of thirteen freshmen and sophomores.

ATHLETICS

ESPORTS

This year, eighth grader Sep McCoy was invited to the Missouri State Playoffs for Super Smash Bros, eventually placing fifth in the state. We also had a decent showing from our High School Overwatch 2 and Apex Legends teams.

GOLF

The 2022–23 season ended with a one stroke victory at state. No one could have imagined that the same thing would happen to the 2023–24 Chaminade Golf Team.

This year, the golf program held tryouts at the end of February for 74 young men trying to make one of the three teams. After spring break, the varsity squad headed to Gulf Shores, Alabama to take on two state high school teams and they came away with two victories. The rest of the season was filled with ups and downs as the coaches tried to determine who would represent the team at the state tournament in May.

After winning the MCC tournament for a second year, the squad was ready to take on one of the toughest districts in the state. A phenomenal performance by senior Charlie Kramer helped the five-man squad win that tournament by 14 strokes.

At the state tournament, hosted by Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, senior Bubba Chapman led the charge with a 2-day total of -7, capturing the individual title for a second straight year. The team’s scores of 292 and 295 were good enough for yet another one stroke victory and the third state championship in four years. Sophomore Eric Ewing also earned all-state honors with his performance, freshman Caden Fehr was a solid contributor on both days. Senior Charlie Kramer and junior Tatman Bahr rounded out the team score on two different days.

BASEBALL

The 2024 baseball season started out with a spring break trip to Florida. We visited and stayed at the Jackie Robinson Sports Complex in Vero Beach playing three games at the complex. Before our games, we had a chance to visit fellow Marianist school, Chaminade-Madonna where we toured their school, had lunch with their team, and played a practice game.

The season was a rough one, but the future is bright for the baseball Red Devils. Four sophomores saw significant playing time including pitcher Cooper Brown, pitcher/shortstop Jackson Miller, catcher/1B Anthony Wohlstadter, and catcher/utility player Jonah Copley. Two freshmen also saw playing time; 3B/ pitcher Henry Ladenberger and pitcher/2B Brennan Sauer. The team was led by seniors Carter Mercer, Cal Ramthun, Nick Livingston, Will Brison, Ryan Bradley, and Eliot Meyers. A strong group of juniors will be taking on leadership responsibilities next year; Carson Cosby, Bobby Wittman, Copper Litteken, Henry Houseworth, Harrison Burt, and Lou Abounader. Two other players I cannot fail to mention as they played significant roles for our team are senior Carter Fogarty and junior Grant Mueller. I wish all players could have the spirit and desire these two showed throughout the year as they put the team before themselves. Nick Livingston ’24 was nominated for all conference utility or designated hitter as Nick played in the outfield, was our DH, and filled in at catcher. Senior Will Brison and junior Bobby Wittman were nominated for all conference outfielders. Sophomore Jackson Miller was nominated for all conference utility player playing both shortstop and making a significant contribution pitching. Cooper Brown ’26 was nominated for all conference pitcher with 48 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched. Lastly, seniors Cal Ramthun and Eliot Meyers were nominated for honorable mention all conference.

ALUMNI A LETTER TO

ALUMNI NEWS 2024

O’Neill ’96 Promoted at Trinity College

Dear Chaminade Alumni,

As we approach the end of another academic year, I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits.

First and foremost, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our Class of 2024 graduates who are embarking on the next chapter of their lives. Your time at Chaminade has prepared you well, and we have every confidence that you will go on to achieve great things. Remember, you will always have a home here at Chaminade. It was very special for me to welcome you into the alumni community at Senior Class Day on May 15.

I also want to take a moment to express our gratitude to Tom Schroyer ’92 for his dedicated service as the Alumni Board president for the past three years. Tom has been an excellent voice for alumni, and we’ve greatly benefited from his leadership and commitment to Chaminade. Thank you, Tom!

In a bit of campus news, in case you missed it, I am thrilled to share that the Gray House has emerged victorious in this year’s House Cup competition. As a Gray House member and former house captain, it’s particularly exciting to see Gray House end their championship drought! This was an exciting year for the House System, which has now been a fixture at Chaminade for over two decades. The Alumni Board is grateful to the faculty and staff who worked with us this school year to retroactively assign all ’pre-house system’ alumni to a House. We hope that you have enjoyed getting to know a bit more about the house system and that developing a connection to your house at Chaminade will lead to more opportunities to connect with other alumni and come to visit campus. If you are not aware of your House assignment, simply email alumni@chaminade-stl.org

It’s clear that our alumni are engaged—we should all be proud of the success of this year’s “Give Chaminade Day”. Thanks to your generous support, this year’s campaign raised nearly $250,000 and saw a significant increase in the number of donors compared to last year. Your contributions make a real difference in the lives of our students!

As we look ahead to the summer months, I encourage you to stay connected with Chaminade and your fellow alumni. Whether it’s attending events, sending your kids to a Chaminade summer camp, reaching out to a graduating senior who may be heading off to your university alma mater, or simply staying in touch, your involvement strengthens our Chaminade family.

Best wishes for a safe and fun-filled summer!

A Record-Breaking Give Chaminade Day

This year’s Give Chaminade Day started with a lofty goal of $200,000. Knowing that this was a stretch, we wanted to showcase how special a place Chaminade is, how important the mission of creating tomorrow’s servant-leaders continues to be, and how that mission has an impact beyond our campus.

We showcased our Junior Leadership Camp, a special time when our rising seniors come together to prepare to lead their respective Houses and learn that their life is meant for others. We shared the story of Mark Heffernan ’82, who is taking the time to teach our current students financial literacy and the importance of finding success and paying it forward through the newly created Hilltop Capital Fund. We followed Dave McCoy ’86 on a Saturday morning to see the servant-leadership of our Chaminade Gentlemen in action as they made and served breakfast to the men of Fr. Dempsey’s, learning to support and help those that are less fortunate than themselves, and not to take their privileges in life for granted.

While we enjoyed sharing these stories, we were taken aback by the number of alumni, current parents, past parents, and friends that shared their own stories with us. These stories are the heart and soul of our community, and they inspire us to continue our mission of forming young men in the Chaminade tradition.

Through the generosity and support of the entire Chaminade Family, we far exceeded our goal, as we raised over $250,000 from more than 665 donors; half of which were alumni. This year saw a remarkable increase (over 70%) in the number of donors compared to last year, a testament to the enduring spirit and commitment of our Chaminade community.

To each and every one of you who contributed to the success of the day, whether providing financial support, sharing your story, or both, we are profoundly grateful. Your dedication to our beloved institution is what makes Chaminade truly special.

We encourage everyone to visit Chaminade-stl.org/testimonials to hear the stories that members of our community shared with us and to see how Chaminade has positively impacted the lives of so many.

Thank you for a record breaking Give Chaminade Day. Your gifts enable us to continue nurturing and empowering our students, preparing them to become Chaminade Gentlemen who will lead and serve their communities with integrity and compassion.

A highlight of the day was showcasing the work Chaminade students do every Saturday morning for the men of Fr. Dempsey’s.
Parents, alumni, friends, and staff members shared their Chaminade experiences online throughout the day.

THE HILLTOP CAPITAL FUND:

EXCITEMENT BUILDING FOR CHAMINADE’S NEWEST EDUCATIONAL ENDEAVOR

Since we announced the creation of the Hilltop Capital Fund in February, there has been an incredible amount of excitement throughout the Chaminade community. The program has garnered widespread attention for its pioneering approach to financial education, being featured in the St. Louis Business Journal, FOX2NOW. com, and shared online by reporters for KMOV (Channel 4).

“When we announced the creation of the fund and this program back in February, we knew it would be well-received,” says President Todd Guidry. “But we’ve been blown away by the positive reception from students, alumni, and the broader community.”

The Hilltop Capital Fund is made possible by the generous support of an anonymous donor who gifted the school $250,000 to start the fund. Additionally, new scholarships will be created out of the fund, with student members of the Chaminade Investment Club developing the criteria for how the scholarships will be awarded.

One of the driving forces behind the Hilltop Capital Fund is Mark Heffernan ’82. Heffernan’s commitment to the program stems from a desire to give back and share his knowledge with the next generation. “I saw this as an opportunity not just to give back to my alma mater, but also to pay it forward and empower students with the skills and values they need to succeed,” he explains.

The Hilltop Capital Fund is overseen by a dedicated student group led by Tim Sartori ’98 and Scott Kugler, with guidance from Heffernan. Sartori shares his excitement about the program, stating, “Scott and I are thrilled to be a part of this. The boys are having a blast with this opportunity and are taking it seriously. It’s been awesome to see how far they have come in their knowledge in just a few short months. It will be really exciting to see where this program is a year from now, two years from now, five years from now. It’s a game-changer.”

“It’s been really cool getting to meet and talk with all of these people who are doing these things in the real world,” says Investment Club member, Joe Basile ’25. Basile plans on pursuing finance in college and believes being a part of the Hilltop Capital Fund is giving him a jump start. “We learn all of these things in my economics class, and then, we get to meet and talk with a hedge fund manager who is actually doing these things and we hear how what we are learning in class translates to things that happen in real life. We’re not just learning it. We’re doing it.”

The response to the Hilltop Capital Fund has been overwhelmingly positive, with alumni eager to get involved and support the program. Many have reached out expressing their excitement and interest in contributing to its success. Online comments echo this sentiment, with one commenter stating, “I wish this program was available when I was a student,” and another declaring, “Every school should have something like this.”

The enthusiasm surrounding the Hilltop Capital Fund speaks to its potential to not only educate students about investments

but also to instill values of philanthropy and community engagement. “Hopefully they take a few lessons from this,” Heffernan remarked. “Obviously you want them to understand how investments work and how they can manage their own finances. But you also hope that they learn the importance of paying it forward, how they can use their success to better the lives of other people.”

That last lesson appears to already be taking hold. “It’s inspiring seeing how these guys, how successful they’ve become, and how they still have that special connection to Chaminade,” says Basile. “It makes you want to be able to give back one day.”

CHAMINADE ADMISSIONS UPDATE

The end of the school year always brings about mixed emotions, as we say goodbye to the familiar faces of the graduating class, but watch as our newly enrolled students become members of the Chaminade Family.

Every spring we welcome our newest Red Devils and their families at New Family Night, one of our favorite events of the year. This year, Senior Jackson Otto delivered the reflection. It was poignant to see the juxtaposition of these excited, nervous 5th – 8th graders at the beginning of their Esto Vir journey and Jackson nearly at the end of his, capturing his favorite memories throughout his years at Chaminade.

He talked about antics from his Mentor Groups over the years, his incredibly challenging and fun STEM classes (including the STEM trip to Disney World), his pride in learning to speak Chinese, his rewarding experience of earning over 200 service hours, his relationships among his fellow athletes from the basketball, volleyball, soccer, football and track teams, and his amazing teachers that taught and guided him along the way . . . all experiences available to our newest students. His closing advice was for the audience, but probably a little for himself as well. “This time in your life you only get to live once, so fill it with memories that will last a lifetime because you never know what will happen by just saying yes.”

Our recent graduates once sat in those very seats on their own New Family Night, envisioning their own Esto Vir journey. We have watched them mature over the years they have spent at Chaminade. We will miss this Class of 2024, especially the Admissions Department’s own-Harry Malloy (Julie’s son), Jackson Otto, and so many of their pals who frequented our candy jar in the Admissions Department. But it is inspiring to know that they are out there being the incredible men “the world needs them to be.”

FINAL FRAME

The end of the 2023-24 school year marked the end of an era. For 29 years, Food Manager, Marge Scheman has kept our students, faculty, and staff fed. Mrs. Scheman has been a mainstay at Chaminade for a generation, and we will miss seeing her smile every morning to start our day. We had the opportunity to honor Mrs. Scheman as a school during our last House Meeting of the year.

Thank you, Marge, for all you have done for us. Enjoy your retirement!
