Lukas Chalupa

Hi!

My name is Lukas. Born in Czechia, fully naturalised British. I have had a keen interest in design and architecture since I was little and I was raised in a family encouraging this passion. Having studied architecture I have developed crucial skills in the subject but also ones in graphic design, drawing, modelling and client engagement. Outside my studies I have always been passionate about travel, photography and cars.

12-13 Bruton Street

Type of project: Squires & Partners - Practice

Location: London

Year: 2023-25

Office; involved RIBA Stage 2-5

Bruton Street is a high-end office development in Central London. The project had received planning consent in 2015 with subsequent amendment application development across 2023-25. The project is a Design & Build contract with the basement section of the building currently on site.

My involvement on Bruton Street developed from initial studies at Stage 2 into complex design team coordination at Stage 3 into later involvement within Stage 4 and 5 running in parallel. I used this project as a case study vehicle for my Part III.

Guildford

Type of project: Squires & Partners - Practice

Location: Guildford

Year: 2024

Residential; involved RIBA Stage 4-5

Guildford is a high-end residential development named after its location in Guildford. The project is undergoing a phased programme with significant retention of the existing basement. Newly proposed basement works are already ongoing. It is a D&B contract.

I was involved on Guildford street in late 2024 delivering the Stage 4 basement package. This included onsite meetings, technical coordination and reviewing contractor’s RFIs. The expedient programme meant development on site had started ahead of Stage 5.

Sussex Mansion

Improvements:

Type of project: Squires & Partners - Practice

Location: London

• There is a significant reduction in height in comparison to the proposal at Pre-App 04.

Year: 2024-25

Residential; involved RIBA Stage 1-2

• The massing has incorporated much of the existing proportions and taken significant steps to remain subservient to its surroundings.

Sussex Mansion is a residential development located in South Kensington. The project is at a pre-application stage within a challenging site and a long planning history.

• The form and shape that much resembles the existing and leaning down towards the properties at Onslow Mews East, which are directly bordering the proposal.

• The revised scheme draws strong inspiration from the existing facades shape, materiality and detailing, as explained in chapter 3.

• It further draws from the typical architecture of it’s context, fitting in with the surrounding rear facades and their simple and contrasting architecture.

I have been involved on Sussex Mansion for a while developing a robust pre-application document addressing all previous feedback received from the planning officers. I was involved in developing the residential floorplans as well as liaising a complicated structural strategy to enable a significant retention of the existing facade.

• The proposal resembles warehouse conversion rather than a new-build.

• The continuation of the clear rhythm of openings creates verticality.

• The proportions between the base and the roof have been set in proportion, the scheme is grounded and not top heavy.

Belgrave House

Type of project: Squires & Partners - Practice

Location: London

Year: 2024-25

Office refurbishment; involved RIBA Stage 3-4

Belgrave House is an existing high-end office project done by Squire & Partners in the 2000s. Since then the office culture and architecture have evolved with the current owner of the building requiring an overhaul update.

I was involved on Belgrave House in 2025 to help deliver an extensive Stage 4 package detailing various interventions throughtout including BoH facilities, new reception and lobby areas, as well as coordination with other engineers on MEP and Structural strategies.

AOTTA

Type of project: Postgraduate

Location: Glasgow

Year: 2022-23

AOTTA: An Ode To The Automobile. As city centres are aiming to limit the reign of the auto and bring back more people-centric designs, this project is a manifestation of that while also celebrating the many achievements this mode of transport has allowed us. As we are trying to return our cities to bodies made out of flesh (not steel), we are also seeing that many struggle to find an affordable home...

AOTTA was my final Master’s project concluding my 5 year university course at the University of Strathclyde, it later formed an important part of the university exhibition.

Dogger Bank

Type of project: Ryder Architecture - Practice

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Year: 2020-21

Office; involved RIBA Stage 1-5

Dogger Bank is a Net Zero Carbon office/industrial development located in South Shields. It provides an operation and maintenance base for the one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world. It is a joint venture between SSE and Equinor.

Dogger Bank was also my first extensive real life building experience that began with an initial site visit and site analysis and later continued throughout the more technical stages. The construction of the project begun in the autumn of 2021 and concluded in 2023.
