A FELICIDADE NÃO É ALEGRE (Happiness isn’t joyful) Bra/Ita ● HD ● post-production ● 75 min ● b/w ● 2012 dir: Pasquale Marino Manlio and Mary are recruited by a priest to take the body of Christ to the elderly and sick people. Manlio works in a melancholic ballroom. Mary lives as a servant of her brothers. When their lives touch themselves, both cling to the perspective of building up together an experience of love in the desolate landscape of Messina. (Sicily, Italy).

A word from the director Extensions of trash, dropped boats on the beach, irons bars for concrete beams that come out in the sand like contemporary art. Put on stage these elements usually related to the degradation isn’t an act of denunciation but an act of love for this landscape that has always existed in this state, and that before a trained eye to the framework, offers unique possibilities. It may be kidnapped by the ugliness, and having to give it a form, we encounter certain classical forms, a world… a world is necessary if one wants to tell a story.

It’s an animation series of 13 episodes with 15 min duration each. Tells the adventures of Petrolina, nicknamed Pety, a fanciful, creative six years old girl. The world around her is composed of quirky characters, sometimes extravagant, which illustrate an emerging, progressive and under social advancement Brazil. The story takes place in Tutaméia - tutta and mezza - brazilian imaginary small town under the process of industrialization, where the archaic coexists with the modern, the rural and urban, and reveals contradictions between the popular and the cosmopolitan, the rainforest and the development of

THE LADY TRUCK DRIVER TEAM Screenplay development by Anahí Borges, Andrea Paolo Massara, Drika Nery, Ilaria Macchia dir: Anahí Borges Brazil’s economic boom. Four stories linked by a unique event: the election of the first female president. Inaê Amana, Pati Preta, Naty Guerrero and Lili Glamour are three women and a transsexual who work driving trucks and freight trucks on the roads of Brazil. Each one comes from a region of the country (North, Northeast, South and Southeast) and is characterized by different life histories, conflicts and private decisions. They are united by a common dream: to go to Brasilia, the federal capital and heart of Brazil, to witness the inauguration of the first female president of the country. “The Lady Truck Driver Team” is a feminine roadmovie that notes with optimism the sociocultural landscapes of a country at its economic miracle: the Brazil of international magazines and newspapers covers.

About the Film “The Lady Trucks” is a “tropicalism rock” story made by freedom and highways, with a hint of pink color. A film about the nuances of femininity in convoys of thirty meters and ninety tons. Women who work driving heavy trucks: a reality that reveals itself more present every day in Brazil and that shapes the landscape of national economic development. It is what attests the Union of Freight Conductors of São Paulo (Sindicapro) in recent national and from São Paulo data: <<at the wheel of large vehicles, women are now present in almost all transport companies in São Paulo. The number grows every day>>. “The Lady Truck Driver Team” is a feature-length fiction that besides putting in focus the discussion of issues related to gender and sexuality brings to light the backdrop of a nation’s development. We are interested in the new industries, technologies, the heating market, new concepts of femininity, and Lili Glamour’s stupendous Scania truck dedicated to Marlene Dietrich. The meetings in the Road Dinners, the daily struggle against prejudice, passion for freedom, Brazil of the G-8 and World Cup, and the stunning imagery that blends tropicalia rock songs of Caetano Veloso and Os Mutantes with the dreamed chrome of Harley Davidson.

SHORTS

PETY PODE TUDO (The Almighty Pety) Bra ● HD ● 18 min ● color ● 2012 dir: Anahí Borges Co-Producer Company: Preta Portê Filmes Pety is a girl with a majestic sense of control of everything around her. One day, walking to school, she believed that has received a warning from the angel Gabriel forsaking the death of her pet named Bunny, a rabbit. The fear of looseness and the desire to control everything lead her to the olimpic attempt to somehow dismiss the prophesied destiny.

A word from the director I wanted to create a diverse and idiosyncratic character, valuing in a child their socially accepted traits of character but also point the typical perversities of childhood. Imaginary fears, unconscious cruelty. The central theme of the story is one of ontological aspirations of human beings: omnipotence, which in childhood is the space of its primitive psychic elaboration. With this short film I meant to work in the record of subtlety, the delicacy and concentration in the experiences, producing life and reality in harmony with unreal and metaphysical elements, because as the Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa said: “Everything, moreover, is the tip of a mystery, even the facts. Or lack of them. Doubt? When nothing happens there’s a miracle that we’re not seeing” (in “Grande Sertão Veredas”).
