Dear Parents/Carers
It has been another busy term with end of year tests, educational visits and public performances all happening at once. I am so proud of the Year Six pupils and staff for helping to make sure that SATs week went smoothly and without any hitches, despite having Ofsted inspectors on-site at the same time. The staff had prepared a nourishing breakfast for all the pupils so that they were ready to sit the test and flourish. – well done to everyone involved in the process.
We have had several trips this term that are new to the school. Year Four went to Wapping and had a day of ‘mudlarking’ by the River Thames. They found remnants of pottery which they further explored, just as historians and geographers would do. The Year Three’s visit to Barleylands is always a favourite and the pupils returned to school delighted with their pizza-making skills. Chadwell also marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with songs and finding out about life during this period and the impact of the war. There was a whole school assembly to commemorate all the soldiers and victims of war.
This term has also seen a group of pupils attending a writing workshop at St Josephs in Dagenham. The aim of the workshop was to promote greater depth in writing by making ambitious vocabulary choices and enhancing their work with newly learnt skills. I can’t wait to read their work. Mrs Aktas also organised a Computing competition all about ‘scams’ and what this means – what a great way for the pupils to learn, be vigilant and keep safe.
Last but not least, on behalf of all of us at Chadwell, I would like to say a fond farewell to Mr and Mrs Jennings. Mr Jennings has been a wonderful and fantastic team player – keeping us all safe around school for over 10 years, and Mrs Jennings has been a highly valued member of staff supporting pupils, helping with events and accompanying numerous trips for over 25 years– they will be sorely missed. We wish them all the best, good health and happiness in their retirement. Thank you!
I wish you all a happy and safe half-term break.
Kind regards,
Ms. Kalhan (Head of school)

Year 3 visited Barleylands Farm to take part in their 'Food to Fork' programme. The children met and fed animals, explored farming methods, took a tractor ride around Barleylands, and cooked a healthy snack using the ingredients from the farm.

On Thursday 8th May 2025, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
World War Two was tragic, many lost their loved ones, homes had been destroyed and lives were changed forever.
It was lovely to see the whole school come together and mark the bitter sweet victory of Europe, whilst having a one-minute silence, singing various songs and reciting poetry written by us all in remembrance.
The Year 5 and 6 choir sang Take You Home, I'll Remember and Street Party.
It was a remarkable experience, one that I will never forget.

Vice Chair of School Council

As a well-deserved reward for their dedication and hard work in the lead-up to SATs, our Year 6 classes enjoyed a fantastic trip to the bowling alley in Romford. The atmosphere was full of excitement and friendly competition, with plenty of strikes, spares, and smiles all around.
The students showed great team spirit throughout the day, cheering each other on and celebrating everyone’s success. Their behaviour was excellent, making it a fun and positive experience for all. Well done, Year 6, you’ve earned it!

To celebrate the end of their SATs tests, Year 6 enjoyed an exciting visit to Tag Active in Brentwood. A high-energy indoor arena filled with climbing challenges, obstacle courses, and interactive games. The activity encourages teamwork, agility, and quick thinking as students race to collect points by tagging illuminated targets across the arena. The children rose to the challenge brilliantly, showing fantastic teamwork and determination as they navigated the course and cheered each other on. After all that action, they were treated to a delicious lunch of pizza, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, vegetables, andjuice, a perfect way to recharge and enjoy each other’s company. Well done to Year 6 for not only completing SATs with great effort, but for continuing to shine outside the classroom too!

The Redbridge Music School organised a Recorder festival to be held on the 22nd May at the Sir James Hawkey Hall in Woodford. Chadwell Primary have been sending children to this since the 1980’s! At Chadwell, all children learn to play the recorder for a year in Year 3. If they want to carry on in year 4 upwards, they canjoin our free lunchtime recorder club. This year, we have 23 children in our recorder club.
18 children from our club were able tojoin in the festival and we took the train to reach the venue. When we arrived, we practised our solo piece and then came together with the other schools to practice 5 pieces together including popular film music such as ’Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ’The Lion sleeps tonight.’ The children were nervous but super excited to be performing to their parents and other schools in the venue. They performed a World premiere of Mrs Peugniez’s HauntedHouse which included singing, a recorder melody and some very unusual sound effects! They performed really well and I was really proud of their playing and how they behaved! Thank you to all the parents who made the effort to come and watch the concert. It is really important for children to see their parents supporting them when they perform– it makes a real difference to them to see a familiar face supporting them.
Our next performance will be our Summer School concert on Tuesday the 15th July at 6pm where recorder club, together with choir, orchestra, drumming club and some soloists will serenade you with a variety of music! We look forward to seeing you there!

This term, we are saying farewell to Mr & Mrs Jennings, who have been two valuable staff members at Chadwell. Mr Jennings has served as our site supervisor for almost twelve years and Mrs Jennings has worked in the support team for twenty-six years. We wish them well in the next chapter of their life.

I have really enjoyed my time working at Chadwell for the past twenty-six years. I have had the pleasure of working with some great teachers and support staff. When I started at Chadwell, I was a LSA (Learning Support Assistant) working 1 to 1 in a Reception class. Throughout the years, I’ve supported many children from Nursery up to Year 3. I’m going to miss Chadwell, but will be leaving with some great memories.
Mrs Jennings
I will never forget so many good times and will always remember the friendships. Thank you so much for all the fond well-wishes. I wish the school all the very best for the future and it’s on-going success.
Mr Jennings
