CHABAD CELEBRATES 18 YEARS OF PASTORAL CARE IN NORTHWEST CT In recent years, the amount of resi‑ dents in old age facilities has grown to 3.5 million. There are more than 16,000 old age homes across the United States. The average patient gets less than two hours of care per day: half‑hour from a registered nurse, thirty eight minutes from a licensed practitioner and eighteen minutes of care from a nurseʼs aide. Sixty percent of all residents don't receive any visitors. Residents of all backgrounds and affiliations have felt Chabadʼs love and kindness firsthand. Chabad has become the family they've never had. From dropping off a weekly Challah before Shabbat to celebrat‑ ing the Jewish holidays, Chabad is always there. Why? Aside from being a Mitzva, a good deed, our Sages say, "Remember the days of old, understand the genera‑ tions.” Nothing new happens under the sun, and our seniors have so much to share. From Holocaust sur‑ vivors, to growing up on the Lower Eastside, their stories continue to inspire and amaze us.

Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest Connecticut services St. Mary's, Wa‑ terbury, Charlotte Hungerford, Sharon and New Milford Hospitals. As Chabad celebrates eighteen years of people helping people, we would like to ask the community to help us in this great Mitzva. Chabad is proud to announce a new initia‑ tive called SOS: Smile on Seniors. This is a unique volunteer program, created to enhance the lives of local seniors. Many seniors, living alone or in senior facilities, would greatly benefit from an extra visit. Familys can not always visit as often as de‑ sired, and not always is there some‑ one else to supplement those visits. And thatʼs where Smile On Seniors steps in. SOS matches local volun‑ teers with local seniors for a weekly visit, bringing joy and a sense of caring to many. It has been proven time and time again that consistent human interactions can greatly im‑ pact the quality of life of the aged. With your help, SOS soon hopes to match a volunteer with every sen‑ ior! To volunteer please info@chabadNW.org

Chabad has shown the same love and care to hospital patients. Every day, patients in the surrounding hospitals are the recipients of Chabad's kindness. (It is our fervent desire that there no one need Chabadʼs pastoral services, however when one is ill, it is Chabadʼs dis‑ tinct pleasure to service them.)
Chabad ensures that all patients needs are met – both spiritually and physically. Oftentimes, Chabad as‑ sists with medical referrals and other health related issues, aside from providing hope and comfort for patients.
