ENDURING QUESTIONS

How can Sacraments lead to encounter with God? How can the Sacraments shape my view of life and the world?

Unit Focus Through a study of the signs, symbols, rituals and words of the Eucharist, students will focus on and explore ways of living out the Eucharist. Students will explore vocation, becoming familiar with the sacraments of Matrimony and Holy Orders as expressions of mission in the service of the Church.

Achievement Standards By the end of Year 10: Students understand, explain and appreciate Eucharist as an action of the Christian community: reconciling, renewing and calling it to action. They explore the Sacraments of Vocation as expressions of mission in the service of the Church.

Unit Outcomes By the end of this unit students should be able to: 1. Use Scripture to understand the historical and theological development of the Eucharist, eg Passover, Last Supper, Emmaus story. 2. Investigate the meaning of key signs, symbols and rituals in the Eucharist. 3. Articulate how the Eucharist deepens our union with Christ and the Church and strengthens us to live our Baptismal call. 4. Understand Marriage and Holy Orders as life-giving relationships which celebrate the vocational call to be people of love and service. 5. Investigate and explore the meaning of key signs, symbols and rituals in the sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders.

Key Understandings for Students ● Structures within the Eucharist connect with experiences in ordinary life: o Introductory rite: Gathering and welcoming.
