FIRED UP FOCUSED and

Dig in!

We’re all about doing what we love, doing it best, and making a living doing it.
Our students, faculty and alumni are known for finding innovative solutions to problems and putting them into practice.

Right now, our students are working side by side with their professors to find new ways to prevent and treat neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, monitor the health of the Great Lakes, and better understand the connection between global warming and the rise in severe storms.

At the same time, they’re sharing their passions and expanding their skills through our nearly 400 student organizations, competing as part of our 17 Division I sports teams, and volunteering across the country as one of the nation’s leaders in Alternative Breaks participation.

Our constant drive to better ourselves and make a difference in the world isn’t just talk. It’s built into who we are.

We were the first public university in the Midwest with a Makerbot Innovation Center 3D printing lab. We were also the first public university in the state to offer a leadership minor.

Through active learning experiences, internships and research opportunities, you’ll begin to apply your knowledge as soon as you step onto campus. Because when we see an opportunity to make a difference, we don’t wait for someone else to step up.

We do.

1,000+ new students participate in Leadership Safari each year.

$34+ million for research and scholarly activity in 2023-24.

2,400 student volunteer hours through Alternative Breaks, where students commit their semester breaks to community service projects.

The CMU CHIPPEWAS more than a name

We proudly carry the Chippewa name in partnership with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

The university and tribal nation have a strong, historic relationship and share a common goal of promoting inclusivity, respect and collaboration to improve and enhance the quality of life in the community.

In 2002, leaders from CMU and the Tribal Council together pledged their joint support in providing educational opportunities and advancing an appreciation of global indigenous people.

Our students, faculty, staff and alumni uphold a standard of respect and understanding of the traditions, cultures, heritage and wisdom of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and other indigenous people.

Celebrating Life Pow wow

Celebrate Native American culture through traditional song and dance at this annual event.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

The second Monday in October is a multi-event celebration of indigenous people of North America.

Native American Heritage Month

The rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans are showcased throughout November.

Our town, MOUNT PLEASANT, MICHIGAN

Take a walk downtown and visit the unique shops and local restaurants on Main Street. Or head across Mission Road to shop several well-known, big-box stores. Enjoy a small outdoor concert or find tickets to national headliners performing in town. There’s something for everyone in Mount Pleasant.

80 miles of the Chippewa River to fish, canoe, kayak and tube.

135 downtown businesses such as shops, galleries, restaurants and cafes.

1,000 acres of parkland and trails for hiking and biking.

500+ local events each year.

AT CMU? What will you do

Don’t wait for your first job to start doing what you love. That starts day one.

DIVE RIGHT IN …

Brandon Chu came to campus and got right to work auditioning for leading roles in plays like Hair. He owned the spotlight during five productions at CMU to prepare for his biggest role yet: Broadway star.

Sydney Harless researched fairness and justice in entrepreneurial growth in Ecuador. She presented her findings at a conference in Italy and won the International Journal of Emerging Markets best paper award.

Eman Adel Abdulla wanted to study fashion design, and her research led her to our award-winning program. Now she’s earning her degree in fashion merchandising and design online from her home in Muharraq, Bahrain.

Ethan Launstein’s research paper “American Football Uniforms Cause Failures on the Heat Tolerance Test” won the National Athletic Trainers Association Foundation Athletic Training Student Writing Contest. His findings could save lives.

Hanna Clark wants to help people around the world as a foreign service officer. She’s already used social media to raise awareness of disadvantaged senior citizens in Thailand and expanded the outreach of a local grassroots nonprofit.

John Apo is helping pilots learn to fly. He’s writing code for our flight simulators that choreographs the climbs, turns, dives, landings and barrel rolls that train pilots and give you a safe flight every time.

We do learning in ACTION

WE WALK THE TALK

Sure, we do theory. But what makes us different is putting that theory into practice. Each of our approximately 200 undergraduate programs is packed with opportunities to put what you learn to the test. Refine it. Make it better. And test it again.

2,000+ internship opportunities 227 laboratories

44 art and performance spaces

WE PRACTICE WHAT WE TEACH

Our professors are more than teachers. They’re industry pros. Our classes are intentionally small and mostly taught by our full-time professors. We have Ph.D.s teaching some intro courses. Why? Because our focus is on you from day one.

16:1 student/faculty ratio

93% of our classes have fewer than 40 students

WE RISE TO THE TOP

It’s about more than having a foot in the door. Our graduates step into careers with experience, an unmatched drive and confidence. Knowing when a problem needs to be solved, it’s a CMU Chippewa who’ll figure it out. It’s no wonder why employers list us most often as one of the top schools in Michigan whose students best fit their needs.

94.9% of CMU grads are employed, continuing their education or engaged in volunteer service within six months.

Find your program. Make it yours. Be the pro.
