Handling Challenges with Grace

Dear Readers,

As spring ushers in renewal, I reflect on my recent 10-day green smoothie cleanse, a personal challenge to fit into my maid-of-honor dress and, of course, reset my mind. As a connoisseur of delightful cuisine, I anticipated the challenge ahead.

I determined my strategy for success, which most notably included crafting a mantra to keep my spirits high through the toughest moments. On the brink of surrender, particularly on day three, I drew inspiration from my AppleFitness+ coaches, reminding myself of my inherent strength and grace under pressure. I emerged victorious with a little divine intervention and the humble yet mighty duo of apples and peanut butter.

This journey of conviction and discipline mirrors the essence of our issue.

We delve into weddings, advocating for choices that truly reflect you, from attire to destinations. Similarly, we highlight organizations innovating for community betterment, reminding us that focusing on our ‘why’ can guide us to success. And, of course, we have some fun pet, art, travel and dining news sprinkled in between.

So, this is your reminder that you, too, can navigate life’s new challenges with elegance and poise and have fun in between. Enjoy the journey.

With warmest regards,

Every Small Business Needs to Know About The CTA

Q:

Effective January 2024, the CTA Act mandates that small businesses with fewer than 20 employees report ownership information to the U.S. Department of Treasury under a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Report. The legislation, introduced in 2021, aims to combat illicit activities such as tax fraud, money laundering and terrorism financing. Non-compliance may result in fines of up to $500 daily or criminal penalties. The CTA seeks to enhance transparency by capturing detailed ownership information for specific U.S. businesses operating in or accessing the country’s market.

Who is considered a beneficial owner of a company?

Per the CTA, a beneficial owner has a substantial ownership stake in a company, exercising significant influence over decisions or operations. An ownership stake includes owning at least 25% of the company’s shares or having comparable control over its equity.

What information must you report about a company’s beneficial owners?

Reporting companies established after January 1, 2024, must provide information about the business, its beneficial owners and company applicants, including names, addresses, birthdays, identification numbers and document jurisdiction. Companies established before this date can omit information about company applicants. All reporting companies must furnish their legal name, trademarks, current U.S. address, taxpayer identification number and formation or registration jurisdiction.

While there’s no annual reporting requirement, updates are mandatory for changes within the business, such as address or name changes for beneficial owners, new driver’s licenses or operational shifts. Even alterations in operational duties that confer substantial control may trigger updates, emphasizing the ongoing nature of compliance beyond the initial filing period.

Where can business owners get help with their beneficial ownership information reports?

While companies may file their own BOI reports, many express reservations. While the forms are simple, small business owners juggling various responsibilities may risk overlooking or delaying the filing deadlines. Because there could be potential legal ambiguities in determining beneficial ownership, you should seek guidance from a knowledgeable advisor, such as an attorney or accountant, to ensure timely and accurate completion of initial and updated reports according to FinCEN’s standards.

Accountants or tax preparers could manage straightforward cases. Still, not all professionals in these fields may offer BOI services due to insurance limitations. Be cautious when selecting firms claiming expertise in this area, emphasizing the importance of legitimacy, expertise and reasonable fees.

St. Patrick’s 5K Run & Walk to Ignite Community Action for Osceola Seniors

In Osceola County, the March for Meals St. Patrick’s 5K Run & Walk, powered by KUA, is a community’s pledge to its elderly members. This initiative, slated for March 16, 2024, at Kissimmee Lakefront Park, champions the Meals on Wheels Osceola program, aiming to eradicate senior hunger.

Originating in 1971, the Osceola Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels began as a senior-led initiative to aid homebound peers. Now serving over 545 clients, the program’s expansion underscores the escalating demand for such services. Despite its growth, challenges like an expanding waitlist and funding shortages highlight the urgent need for community backing. Tim Timmermann, Senior VP of Marketing & Development, emphasizes, “Meals on Wheels is more than just a meal; it’s a crucial check-in for our seniors, making community involvement essential.”

The 5K event promises a blend of fitness, fun and philanthropy, featuring a silent auction and a “Team Challenge” where groups vie for “Most Spirited Team” and “Largest Team” awards, incentivized

by a discount for teams of five or more. Attendees are urged to donate non-perishable food items, aiding the Osceola Council on Aging’s food pantry, and entering them into a prize draw.

Meals on Wheels Osceola exemplifies the profound impact of collective action, fostering independence and dignity for the elderly. Covering 33 routes in Osceola County, the program ensures that nutritious meals, crafted by dieticians and chefs, reach those in need, including pet provisions through “Jimmy’s Pets.”

As the March for Meals 5K approaches, it’s a chance to support a vital cause, ensuring Osceola’s seniors receive the care and nourishment they deserve. So lace up your sneakers, gather your team, and let’s march for meals.

UCF’s Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion: A Strategic Response to Nursing Crisis

In an era where healthcare is a defining challenge, the U.S. grapples with a stark reality: a deepening nursing shortage that threatens the fabric of patient care. The International Council of Nurses raises the alarm for a possible global shortfall of 13 million nurses by 2030, a dire prediction exacerbated by the pandemic’s relentless toll on healthcare workers.

A Visionary Leap in Nursing Education

Consistently at the forefront of innovative solutions, the University of Central Florida (UCF) takes a decisive stride forward with the Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion. Slated to begin operations in the 2025-26 academic year, the facility is a testament to UCF’s commitment to healthcare education.

The Heartbeat of the Pavilion: Unleashing Potential College of Nursing Dean Mary Lou Sole describes the Pavilion

as a catalyst for change: “At UCF, we unleash potential, and the Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion will do just that. This transformational project will allow UCF to address the critical nursing shortage facing our communities by graduating more Knight nurses to care for our families, friends and neighbors, more Knight nurses to lead nursing into the future, and more Knight nurses to educate future generations,” she says.

Her words paint a picture of a future brightened by the Pavilion’s influence, empowering Knight nurses to provide compassionate care and lead the evolution of nursing.

Innovation: The Antidote to the Nursing Crisis

Technology emerges as a critical ally in the battle against the nursing deficit. Reports by Accenture indicate that tech-forward approaches can bolster nurse retention, streamline processes, and usher in a new era of digital empowerment.

With the capacity to graduate

an additional 150 nurses annually, with tripled lab and simulation space, the Pavilion promises to be a vessel for technological advancement and hands-on learning.

“Space has been added for our nurse researchers to conduct studies, including a wet lab for those with a basic science background and labs for biobehavioral research, such as walking studies and focus groups,” Sole shares. “There will also be dedicated spaces for students to not only study but to rest, relax, and practice self-care, which is critically important for their mental health and success in clinical practice.”

Here, the next generation of nurses will be sculpted, armed with the tools to navigate the complexities of a high-tech healthcare landscape.

Philanthropy and Partnerships: The Cornerstones of Progress

The realization of this project is fueled by the generosity of donors and the unyielding support of the State of Florida. These partnerships go beyond

14 Central Florida Lifestyle | March-April 2024 + HEALTH & Wellness

mere financial aid, fostering hands-on experiences that are the bedrock of UCF’s exemplary nursing programs.

“Community partnerships have been, and will continue to be, essential to nursing education at UCF and critical to our success as one of the nation’s best nursing programs,” Sole says. “Our undergraduate and graduate students gain handson learning and education at our community partners’ facilities through clinicals. Partnerships also support faculty research and muchneeded student scholarships.”

The Enduring Impact of the Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion

The College of Nursing’s proximity to UCF’s College of Medicine as part of the UCF Academic Health Sciences Campus will aid in boosting further collaboration. How? By inspiring and producing more skilled and compassionate graduates who will improve the patient experience in the healthcare industry.

“Knight nurses are sought-after by employers, renowned for their compassion and clinical excellence. If you’ve received care at one of our partner’s facilities, you most likely received care from a UCF Knight nurse,” Sole shares. “UCF graduates the most newly licensed nurses in the State University System of Florida — most, 85%, of our 16,000+ alumni, remain in Florida, and nearly 60% stay here in Central Florida.”

A Parting Thought from the Dean

The Pavilion is more than a building; it’s a movement. Dr. Sole captures the Pavilion’s essence: “The Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion will not only address today’s healthcare challenges but will have an immeasurable impact in our

communities for generations to come.” It’s a clarion call for innovation, a pledge to revolutionize healthcare through the power of education.

For an in-depth exploration of the Pavilion and its role in shaping the future of nursing, discover more at UCF’s College of Nursing website.

Travel Tips for Caretakers: Making Travel Less Stressful for Your Loved Ones

Traveling can be an exciting and enriching experience. Still, it can also be stressful, especially for caretakers traveling with their loved ones who require special care. However, with careful planning and a few practical tips, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for you and your loved one. Here are some travel tips to make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.

Plan Ahead

Before embarking on your journey, research your destination thoroughly. Look for wheelchair accessibility, medical facilities and nearby pharmacies. Pack all necessary medications, medical records, and emergency contact information. It’s also good to inform your loved one’s healthcare provider about your travel plans.

Choose the Right Accommodations

When booking accommodations, opt for places that are accessible and comfortable for your loved one. Look for hotels or vacation rentals with wheelchair ramps, elevators and accessible bathrooms. Additionally, consider the proximity of the

accommodation to attractions and amenities to minimize the need for long walks or transportation.

Pack Essentials

Pack a travel bag with extra clothing, medications, snacks, water and necessary medical equipment. It’s also helpful to carry a list of emergency contacts, including your loved one’s doctor and insurance information. These readily available items will help you address unexpected situations during your trip.

Take Frequent Breaks

Traveling can be tiring for anyone, especially for those with special needs. Plan frequent breaks during your journey to allow your loved one to rest and recharge. Take advantage of rest areas, parks or quiet spots along the way. Rest stops will help reduce fatigue and make the travel experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Be Mindful of Dietary Needs

If your loved one has dietary restrictions, plan your meals accordingly. Research restaurants or cafes that offer suitable options, or consider packing snacks or meals from

home. This crucial step will ensure that your loved one’s nutritional needs are met, reducing potential stress related to finding appropriate food options.

Traveling with a loved one who requires special care can be challenging. Still, proper planning and consideration can also be a rewarding experience. Following these travel tips can minimize stress and create lasting memories for you and your loved one. Remember to be patient, flexible, and open to new experiences, as travel can be a transformative experience for everyone involved.

2024’s Top Wedding Trends

The wedding scene in Central Florida is buzzing with innovation and personalized touches, making each celebration uniquely memorable. The Central Florida Wedding Association (CFWA) shares insights into the latest trends shaping nuptials’ future. From aerial photography to gender-neutral wedding parties, here’s what’s in vogue for 2024 weddings.

Aerial Elegance and Candid Moments

Photography is soaring to new heights with the adoption of aerial imagery, offering couples cinematic views of their special day. Jenn Laiacona, President of CFWA and Co-owner of Cona Studios, notes, “As a wedding photo & video company, we are seeing three prevalent trends with our 2024 couples. These include aerial imagery for breathtaking, “eyes in the sky” cinematic perspectives, documentary style candid content over posed, traditional imagery, and photo/table dashes to ensure the couple captures a photo with all of their guests.”

Inclusive Celebrations

The concept of wedding parties is evolving, with couples opting for genderless groups, seated arrangements, and personalized outfit choices, reflecting a move towards inclusivity and individual expression.

Creative Cocktail Hours

Gen Z’s lean towards alcohol abstinence is reshaping cocktail hours, with mocktails becoming the star of the show, offering a sophisticated yet inclusive alternative for all guests.

Unforgettable Guest Experiences

Weddings are becoming more experiential, featuring live painters, petting zoos, and even surprise appearances by beloved characters like Mickey & Minnie, ensuring guests leave with lasting memories.

Redefining Sweetness

The traditional wedding cake is making way for dessert bars, offering a variety of treats from donuts to cereal bars, allowing guests to indulge in a personalized sweet experience.

Floral and Decor Palette

2024’s color trends, including ‘Peach Fuzz’ and ‘Marseille Bleu,’ are finding their way into floral arrangements and decor, setting a vibrant and trendy wedding tone.

Bridal Beauty Wisdom

Shireen Weis and the House of Sheen Glam Team emphasize a few tips when preparing for bridal hair and makeup.

DO’S:

■ Stay hydrated.

■ Limit your alcohol consumption (mimosas included).

■ Get good rest the night prior.

■ Make sure everyone’s hair is CLEAN from the day before and blow-dried (dirty hair is a styling myth).

■ Make sure a member of your party is in the artist’s chair at all times.

■ Have your bridal preview photos and notes handy.

■ Show inspirational photos/ if giving your party creative freedom, have them utilize Pinterest as a tool.

DONT’S:

■ Oversleep.

■ Have damp or wet hair.

■ People-please. If you really want the members of your parties to be synchronized, stick to it.

■ Drink beverages without a straw after your lipstick is on.

■ Forget to put your customized touch-up kit in your purse!

■ Scratch your face after makeup is applied; tap instead.

■ Take all staged photos with hair and makeup until your look is complete (you’ll be happier with your getting-ready photos).

As we embrace these trends, it’s clear that 2024 weddings in Central Florida are all about personalization, inclusivity, and creating moments that resonate with each couple’s unique story. Wedding Planning 101: Laying The Groundwork For Your Best Day Ever!

Congratulations on your engagement! As you take the first step of planning your wedding, let me share some advice to help you quickly navigate this exciting yet sometimes overwhelming process. From setting priorities to being mindful of the unforeseen, here is your guide to setting the foundation for planning your wedding celebration.

Do: Start with Your Priorities

Before diving headfirst, you should sit down and identify your priorities. Prioritizing what matters to you most will guide your decisions and keep you focused throughout the process. Write those words down and have them on a wall, a vision board, your phone, etc. Have them anywhere to keep you focused.

Do: Create a Guest List

World War III has nearly erupted multiple times over the last century because of a wedding guest list. Create your must-invite list and

then separately think of the people it would be nice to invite. You want to know the tentative guest count when considering venues and catering. That count can sway your costs drastically.

Do: Set a Budget and Then Add a Contingency

Whether your budget is $2 or $2 million, have an honest conversation with all who will invest in your wedding day. Understanding your budget before you lock in your venue is vital. The cost of weddings has changed, and your guest count will impact many of your expenses. Some expenditures will be the same regardless of your guest count. Know that labor costs, fuel costs and travel fees are a part of the proposals you are receiving, and so many times, you may have to revisit your budget.

Do: Create A Wedding Email

Creating a wedding email is my number one to-do when speaking to couples. The wedding email is

shared between you and your fiancé. It is where EVERY contract or email about your wedding will go (except your dress if you are a bride and you want your fiancé to be surprised).

Do: Hire A Wedding Planner

Hiring a planner helps to alleviate many stressors. It is an investment, but it is also invaluable. As planners, our role is to help you keep your priorities in line and develop your game plan for your wedding. We will help save you time, realistically map out your financial investment, and bring the professionals to the table who will execute the day.

Do: Embrace Technology

Technology is the cornerstone for so much of what we do. Utilize the tools to help keep you organized. Use technology, from your wedding website to setting up your registry to apps that allow you to stay in touch with your guests.

20 Central Florida Lifestyle | March-April 2024 + WEDDING Trends

Do: Communicate Openly and Honestly

Effective communication is critical to a successful wedding planning process. Be open and honest with your partner about your preferences, concerns and expectations. Regular check-ins and honest conversations will help ensure that you’re on the same page every step of the way and can make decisions that reflect your personality and values.

Do: Prioritize Self-Care

Literally, build it in. We encourage our couples to build in “no wedding” moments into the planning process. Wedding planning can become a whirlwind of emotions, deadlines and decision-making moments, so it’s essential to prioritize self-care throughout the process. Relax, exercise and spend quality time with your fiance to recharge and rejuvenate.

Don’t: Forget About Sustainability

As awareness of environmental issues grows, many couples in 2024

are opting for eco-friendly wedding options. From choosing sustainable vendors to reducing waste and incorporating green elements into your décor, there are countless ways to plan a beautiful and environmentally conscious wedding. Consider alternatives such as digital invitations, locally sourced flowers, and plant-based menus to minimize your carbon footprint.

Don’t: Underestimate the Power of Research

Bridal Fashion Through the Ages

Learn about the evolution of wedding dresses (and suits) and discover what trend might best fit you!

The quest for the perfect wedding dress is a journey many brides find both exhilarating and daunting. Amid wedding planning, the dress stands out as a symbol of personal style, a vital element of the celebration. It is a unique and magical moment for the bride, and there are plenty of ideas. But who says you have to stick to the conventional? Drawing inspiration from the past and future trends, we’re sure this guide will help you discover which dress style best fits you!

A Nod to Tradition: Queen Victoria and The Legacy of the White Dress

In the past, wedding dresses were not necessarily white. According to the Royal Collection Trust, the iconic white wedding dress started with Queen Victoria, who, in 1840, chose to wear white to support Britain’s lace industry. But it became much more than a tradition: it became a global trend. “As a big fashion icon, people all over Europe started to follow Queen Victoria’s white dress idea, making it a tradition,” notes historical accounts. The white dress symbolized purity and innocence, and its

color appeal was further enhanced by its striking appearance in black-andwhite photography.

Decades of Elegance: The Evolution of Wedding Dresses

1840-1949: From the 1840s until the 1949s, silk was the bride’s favorite. The high necks and elaborate hair accessories were also becoming more popular these years, setting a tone of elegance. The Bridal Gallery of Orlando store says that brides wanted to show power at that time, so extravagance and elegance were a priority.

1950-1999: Post-1950s, the trend shifted to more feminine romantic silhouettes, with shorter dresses and veils coming into vogue. Wedding dress stores around Orlando say that these characteristics have become timeless.

2000-2023: The new millennium saw a mix of off-the-shoulder designs, luxurious laces, full skirts and minimalist styles. Central Florida bridal stores observe a current preference for clean, simple lines.

Most wedding dress stores around Central Florida say brides

nowadays “prefer more wedding dresses with clean looks, straight lines, simple and minimalist,” reflecting a blend of modern sensibilities with timeless elegance. But there will always be some people looking for the traditional dress styles that were more popular during past decades. “You will always find some traditional, romantic dresses, but you can see more modern trends as well, like the mermaid style,” says Sira D’ Pion, owner of the Sira D’ Pion Atelier in Winter Park.

Bridal Fashion Forward: What’s Trending in 2024

As we look to the future, the bridal fashion landscape includes a bit of everything. New York Bridal Fashion Week and insights from local industry insiders paint an exciting picture for 2024:

■ Colorful Expressions: Moving away from the traditional white, brides are embracing color.

“Wedding dress stores say that colored dresses are becoming more common, but the choices depend highly on the mood of

22 Central Florida Lifestyle | March-April 2024 + WEDDING Trends

the wedding and what the couple wants to pass to their guest,” indicating a shift toward more personalized and mood-reflective choices.

■ Floral Renaissance: “This spring, flowers will capture the attention of wedding dress trends,” says D’ Pion. The popularity of floral prints signifies a celebration of love and beauty, integral to the essence of weddings. This renaissance will include small flowers over the skirt, flower-print dresses with different designs and big floral appliques.

■ The Charm of Bows: Bows are making a comeback, adding a touch of whimsy and elegance to bridal attire. Instead of decorating only the dress, the bow format style on the upper part of the dress will be a trend. The Collection Bridal Store in Winter Park says, “It is no surprise that bows will be trending,” highlighting their enduring appeal.”

Gentlemen’s Attire: A Brief Look at Men’s Wedding Fashion Men’s wedding attire has also

undergone significant transformations, from the formal morning suits of the early 20th century to the sleek, tailored looks of today. The diversity in men’s fashion reflects a broader acceptance of individual style and the breaking of traditional norms.

Like Queen Victoria changed the history of wedding attire in the 1840s, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, her husband, changed the suits. He used the cutaway front and the tail on the jacket, which was new then. He would combine a soldier’s uniform and morning suit, setting a new trend for grooms.

1840-1949: During this time, grooms used a simple design. Trousers were baggy and high-waisted. Pocket squares were also standard. As time progressed, men protected their wealth by showing their suits. Colorful shirts, ties, tie pins and cufflinks showcased different fashion styles.

1950-1999: At the beginning of 1950, grooms followed a design called morning suits. Weddings were mainly conducted in the morning, so the trend of suits included the composition of tailcoats, waistcoats and formal trousers made of wool.

2000-2023: Like brides, grooms used more simplistic, clean-cut and crisp suits. The idea is that suits be tailored to fit the groom’s shape. But there has been an uptick in investment in different colored suits, such as dark blue or brown. Nowadays, suit options are endless and fashion rules are less restrictive.

Envisioning 2025: The Future of Wedding Fashion

As we anticipate 2025 trends, the bridal industry will embrace elegance and comfort, with mid-skirt dresses, pants and jumpsuits leading the way. These trends suggest a move toward versatility and personal expression in bridal fashion.

Wedding dresses (and suits) are about feeling one’s best in the special moment, a love story to celebrate. Every bride and groom is different, but nowadays, the world accepts versatility. So whether you appreciate the timeless elegance of a classic gown or suit or the colorful contemporary design, the chosen wedding wear should reflect your personality and taste.

BREVARD COUNTY: A New Chapter in Conservation and Exploration

Learn how the future Aquarium and Conservation Center will make an environmental and economic impact through sustainability and conservation

Besides being the world’s center for space exploration, Brevard County is a coveted tourist destination where diverse experiences attract guests from across the state and country to see all the Space Coast has to offer. From gorgeous coastlines to the latest space innovation and unparalleled access to wildlife, the county is home to immersive attractions that have earned the region its rank as the second best-performing city in the U.S.

For decades, the Space Coast has been known for its ties to Port Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center, Brevard Zoo and other attractions. Now, under the auspices of Brevard Zoo, a future center is coming that will not only affect the region’s economy but also positively impact our local waterways and ecosystem.

East Coast Zoological Foundation (ECZF), a nonprofit that owns and operates Brevard Zoo, is building its next campus, a future Aquarium and Conservation Center at Port Canaveral, on 14 acres of shoreline.

Expected to break ground later this year with an anticipated opening in 2027, the future Aquarium will provide impactful, immersive experiences for guests to encounter

the natural world and preserve the future of the Indian River Lagoon.

The Lagoon is home to more than 4,000 species of plants and animals, 50 of which are listed as endangered or threatened. ECZF’s critical work with the Indian River Lagoon focuses on solutions for water quality improvement, habitat protection and restoration, and increased resilience to storm damage and erosion, all of which will be amplified through the future Aquarium.

Rooted in our dedication to conservation and providing a sustainable future for our community, the Aquarium and Conservation Center serves as a beacon to connect guests with nature and animals through authentic experiences. The future Aquarium is a natural attraction, offering unique guestfacing projects, including its Sea Turtle Care Complex, whose innovative design will allow visitors to follow a turtle’s journey of care. Authentic, natural experiences will set our future Aquarium apart from other attractions, allowing families to immerse themselves and discover the real Florida.

The future Aquarium will include opportunities for guests to be surrounded by native shark species in a captivating experience, including encounters where guests can wade the shallow pathway of the stingray habitat along with other dedicated spaces to interact with and learn more about the wildlife.

Brevard County recently saw record-breaking tourism, with the Space Coast Office of Tourism collecting over 25 million in tourism development taxes last year. Our county continues to thrive as we continue to grow. With the recent rebranding of the region in alignment with major attractions, Brevard County offers unique experiences for guests to reimagine Florida. The future Aquarium and Conservation Center is just starting as part of a $100 million fundraising campaign. It will make an impactful and impressive addition to the region, offering guests a unique experience connecting with nature and the wildlife with which we share our home.

Earning More Than Just a Paycheck: The Journey of Two Daniel

Mills Apprentices

William Daniel Mills Apprentices Sara Diaz and Luke Villeneuve are not just participating in the world of theater; they are living it, learning every step of the way. Beyond the allure of the stage lights and the applause lies a deeper reward for these two apprentices: a wealth of professional theater experience and practical knowledge that promises to shape their futures.

A Stage for Learning

At the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, an educational beacon partnered with the William Daniel Mills Apprenticeship Program, the emphasis is on the holistic development of its apprentices. The program champions the myriad life skills fostered by theater arts education, such as collaboration, problemsolving and self-confidence. It’s a curriculum that Diaz and Villeneuve have embraced wholeheartedly.

Their recent roles in the William Daniel Mills Theatre Company’s production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” at Fringe ArtSpace showcased their acting prowess. They underscored the program’s commitment to real-world learning. Diaz’s portrayal of Mrs. Shears and Voice Track 1, alongside Villeneuve’s compelling performance as Ed Boone, brought to life the intricate layers of the play’s narrative.

For the Love of Drama

For 19-year-old Villeneuve, a freshman at Valencia College, the stage offers a universe of possibilities. “As a kid, I thought I wanted to be a detective or a doctor or a scientist or some other cool job you see on TV,” he shares. “But then, once I started acting, I discovered I can be all those things. It’s sort of an everything-rolled-into-one job.” His passion for dramatic, non-musical plays like “Almost, Maine” reveals a deep appreciation for the art’s power to mirror the complexities of real life. “It’s all about people just trying to do their best,” Villeneuve says.

Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance

Diaz, a 17-year-old freshman at Valencia College, has always given her best effort. Her debut as Liesl in “The Sound of Music” with Theater South Playhouse was acclaimed, highlighting her dynamic presence and vocal talent. She’s refining her dance skills through ballet, a testament to her dedication to the craft.

“Performing since I was 10 years old and graduating from high school early, I’ve loved [“The Sound of Music”] since I was little. The music is so lovely, and the message is so relevant. It’s about the power of kindness,” Diaz reflects. Her dream? To breathe life into every major female role in “The Sound of Music” during her career.

The Future’s Bright

Looking ahead, Villeneuve and Diaz are poised to take their experiences from the apprenticeship program to new heights. Villeneuve has aspirations in theater, TV, and film. He reflects that putting your mind to something and seeing it through is key to success. “To succeed in performing arts, all you have to do is put your whole heart into it. Once I understood that, I fell in love with it and got much better at it,” Villeneuve says.

His sentiments are matched by Diaz’s dreams of Broadway and beyond. “The experience I’m getting through the William Daniel Mills Apprenticeship is giving me access to so many excellent educational and professional opportunities,” Diaz enthuses. “Hopefully, one day, I can help other young people gain the personal insight and skills to succeed in the performing arts.”

As Diaz and Villeneuve continue to earn their stripes on the stage, their journey is a testament to the transformative power of theater education. It’s a narrative that not only entertains but inspires, reminding us of the enduring impact of the arts on personal growth and professional development.

Spring Golf Wear Trends –

From Earthy Tones to Edgy Twists

More Americans are playing golf than ever before. Central Florida is a prime destination for the sport, with more than 150 courses within a 45-minute drive of downtown.

With golf gaining popularity, especially amongst the younger generations, the sport’s fashion trends are here to follow suit.

Golf wear has become increasingly popular, especially here in Central Florida, where people want to be as comfortable as possible in the spring and summer humidity but still fashion-forward. Golf wear can take you from the golf course to one of our many theme park attractions, beaches, shops or restaurants – making it the perfect fit for any occasion.

Here are the top golf apparel trends we’re expecting to see this spring:

Nostalgic Nod to Americana

It’s no secret that everything eventually comes back in style. This spring, we will see more retro-inspired sportswear that is a nostalgic nod to the Americana aesthetic.

Known as a timeless style, Americana utilizes classic silhouettes to pay homage to the vintage styles of the 1950s and beyond, reflecting

America’s peak point of patriotism. Oversized short-sleeved polos with relaxed open-neck collars were a wardrobe staple for 50s athleisure wear. We can expect to see these same characteristics this spring in golf wear, in addition to bold stripes and classic A-line pleated silhouettes.

Edgy Elements

We also expect to see a trend of edge and innovation for golf wear this spring.

Edgy styles can sharpen both your look and your golf game. Think striking, classic hues like black, white, and gray coupled with the unconventional yet modern look of asymmetrical collars, digital camo print, bold stripes and color blocks.

Seasonal Hues

Seasonal hues play a significant role in fashion trends. Regarding spring hues for golf wear, we expect to see more soothing, rich, earthy tones. Hunter green, blush, taupe and golden browns will appear along with the critical monotone colorway – black, white and gray. We’ll also see vibrant pops of classic spring colors like dusty blue and turquoise, combining traditional hues with a modern edge.

Performance Features

While some of the most notable fashion features touch on form, the function is equally important, especially in golf wear.

Performance materials add functionality to trending designs. Perforated fabrications, for example, allow for greater ease of movement and exceptional breathability, which are ideal for any active endeavor.

Storage will also be a trend, such as tactically placed front welted zipper pockets in jackets and thoughtfully hidden compartments in vests. This additional storage will make golf tees, balls and ball markers easily accessible when needed on the course.

As athleisure wear and the sport of golf continue to rise in popularity – especially here in Central Florida –golf wear will make the perfect spring staple for any wardrobe.

A Comprehensive Guide for Future Pet Parents

Often celebrated for its magical theme parks and vibrant lifestyle, Orlando boasts a lesser-known accolade: a haven for pets and their owners. In 2022, Booking.com proclaimed Orlando the premier dog-friendly destination in the U.S., a testament to the city’s warm embrace of our four-legged family members.

A Forbes Advisor survey recently illuminated the common hurdles pet owners encounter. We discussed these findings with Stephen Bardy, the Executive Director of Pet Alliance, to uncover essential considerations for anyone contemplating pet adoption.

The Forbes Survey: Top Pet Peeves

The survey reveals that 66% of U.S. households boasted pet ownership in 2024, with a staggering 97% considering their pets as family members. However, this close bond doesn’t come without its trials. The top concerns for pet owners included finding reliable dog sitters, securing dog-friendly accommodations, and managing the daily needs and costs associated with pet care.

The Cost of Love: Key Considerations for Prospective Pet Owners

Orlando shines with its petfriendly amenities, from sprawling parks to welcoming spaces and affordable veterinary clinics. Yet, as Bardy points out, “Orlando is not immune to the rising costs affecting pet owners everywhere.”

Bardy further emphasizes being mindful of potential costs before finalizing adoption plans, stating, “An owner could easily spend $1000+ annually on pet care, depending on the pet.” This financial aspect can be particularly daunting for seniors, highlighting the need for community support programs like Meals on Wheels, which Pet Alliance collaborates with to aid pet retention among the elderly.

The Role of Preventative Care and Insurance

With pet ownership on the rise, so is the popularity of pet insurance, a crucial step in managing unforeseen veterinary expenses. Bardy advises, “More people are starting to get pet insurance because it really does save them money,” likening it to human health insurance in its necessity.

With over 500 veterinarians in Orange County, access to care is not a significant barrier, but pet owners should still know the type of pet they want and its needs since the first and final years of a pet’s life can be the costliest.

Lifestyle and Housing: Finding the Perfect Fit

Choosing the right pet goes beyond preference, extending to considerations about living arrangements and lifestyle. To illustrate this point, Bardy shares a personal anecdote: “I intentionally sold my house to get a house where the primary living was on the first

floor so the dogs wouldn’t have to go upstairs anymore.”

Renters might opt for smaller dogs due to limited backyard space, while homeowners consider housing structures tailored to their pet’s needs.

Looking Ahead: Pet Alliance’s Vision for Orlando

Pet Alliance eagerly anticipates opening a new shelter in June 2025, which promises to bolster the city’s adoption rates and veterinary services. Bardy says Pet Alliance will continue to welcome volunteers who can aid in this process by offering their veterinary skills.

Need Assistance? Pet Alliance is Here to Help

For those feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of pet ownership, Pet Alliance extends a helping hand through services like their monthly Pet Food Pantry, offering support and guidance to those in need.

Embracing the Journey of Pet Parenthood

As we navigate the complexities of pet ownership, it’s crucial to approach the decision with a full understanding of the responsibilities and costs involved. With its supportive community and wealth of resources, Orlando offers a nurturing environment for those ready to embark on the rewarding journey of pet parenthood.
