REIMAGINE THE RUN.

The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 offers participants a unique half marathon experience, encouraging runners to get out of the Loop and explore the neighborhoods of Chicago’s West Side.

The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 will take place on Sunday, June 4. The course will weave through the historic parks and boulevards of the West Side, starting and finishing in Garfield Park.

A two-day Packet Pick-up will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Roosevelt Collection at 150 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago.

RACE WEEKEND TRANSPORTATION

CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY (CTA) TRANSIT TIPS

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers an economical and convenient way to check out all Chicago has to offer. For information on CTA fares and transit directions to and from the event visit transitchicago.com.

RIDESHARE

Participants utilizing rideshare to access Garfield Park on race day will be dropped off at the intersection of Homan Avenue and Maypole Avenue on the east side of Garfield Park. Information teams and directional signage will help guide event attendees to the start line and Race Day Festival area.

RACE DAY PARKING AND SHUTTLE

Parking is limited near the start and finish lines in Garfield Park. A shuttle service and parking will be available for free at the Halsted/Taylor Parking Structure (760 W. Taylor Street), located on the campus of University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).

Event attendees should enter the UIC parking structure at 760 W. Taylor Street. Parking attendants will be onsite to assist with entry and to distribute parking vouchers. Upon entry‚ event attendees will receive a parking ticket and voucher. Upon exit, attendees must present the parking ticket and voucher to zero out the parking fee. If the voucher is lost or misplaced, attendees will be responsible for paying the parking fee.

Shuttle service will operate every 20 minutes from 5:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The first shuttle is anticipated to leave UIC around 5:15 a.m. and the final shuttle will leave Garfield Park at 12:30 p.m.

RACE DAY BIKE PARKING

A bike corral will be available near gear check in Garfield Park for bike parking. Participants interested in biking to the event will need to supply their own locks.

DIVVY

Use Divvy Bikes, Chicago’s only bike and scooter share system, to get around race weekend. Conveniently rent a bike or scooter from one of many docking stations located around Chicago. Divvy will operate a bike valet (for Divvy bikes only) on Conservatory Drive and Lake Street to accept your Divvy bike when you arrive to Garfield Park on race day.

PACKET PICK-UP PARKING

Parking is available in the garage located at the Roosevelt Collection. Parking in the garage is free for the first two hours with validation available at Packet Pick-up.

PACKET PICK-UP

PACKET PICK-UP EMAIL

Participants will receive a Packet Pick-up email on Wednesday, May 31. Participant Packet Pick-up will take place on Friday, June 2 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and Saturday, June 3 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at the Roosevelt Collection (150 W. Roosevelt Road). You must present your email* and one form of photo ID to receive your participant packet, participant bag, Nike participant shirt and pre-purchased beer tickets (if applicable).

*The Packet Pick-up email can be presented on the screen of a mobile device or tablet, or in the form of a printout/ hard copy. If you misplaced or did not receive a Packet Pick-up email, please email office@chicago13point1.com and a member of the event’s customer service team will resend the email.

Reduce the use of paper. Present your Packet Pick-up email electronically instead of printing!

VERIFY YOUR INFORMATION

We encourage you to verify your race information listed in the Packet Pick-up email. If any of the information is inaccurate (name and age division) you can make corrections by contacting the event office via email at office@chicago13point1.com.

PARTICIPANT PACKET PICK-UP

Participant Packet Pick-up will take place on Friday, June 2 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and Saturday, June 3 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at the Roosevelt Collection (150 W. Roosevelt Road). You must attend the Participant Packet Pick-up to pick up your participant packet, participant bag, Nike participant shirt and any pre-purchased beer tickets (if applicable). If you cannot pick up your packet, a friend, family member or coworker can pick up your packet for you by presenting a copy of your Packet Pick-up ticket.

Runners who sign up and pay for race day Packet Pick-up can pick up their race materials starting at 5:30 a.m. on race day. Questions about race day Packet Pick-up can be sent to office@chicago13point1.com.

Participants 21 years or older will receive a drink ticket attached to their bib number that can be redeemed for one

(1) Solemn Oath Lu Kolsch or Small Wave beer, City Water Pink Lemonade or Peach Lemonade hard seltzer or Go Brewing No Regrets Lite Lager, New School Sour or Sunshine State Tropical IPA non-alcoholic beer.* Additional drink tickets can be purchased for $6 each at the Race Day Festival. Ticket sales will end at 11 a.m., and tickets can be redeemed on Sunday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

*You must be 21 years or older with a valid ID to purchase and/or consume alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beer at the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 race weekend.

START CORRALS

The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 assigns runners to a start corral based on the expected pace per mile provided on their applications. Log into your participant account to view your start corral assignment.

Start corrals open: 5:30 a.m.

Start corrals close: 6:50 a.m.

Race start time: 7:00 a.m.

*If you are not in your start corral by 6:50 a.m., you must start at the back of Corral F.

GEAR CHECK

Before the race, you can check small personal items in your event-issued gear check bag at the race day gear check tent located in the parking lot on the north side of the fieldhouse in Garfield Park. The gear check tent will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

About gear check:

• You must check your gear using your event-issued clear plastic bag (participant bag). Please note that the event will not handle oversized bags or luggage.

• To check your gear, remove the gear check tag from your bib number and fasten it to your event-issued clear plastic bag using the instructions provided.

• Do not check valuable items, such as wallets, money, phones or jewelry. The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.

• Participants will not be permitted to run with a bag. All personal items must be checked at your assigned gear check tent before the race.

• Do not leave bags unattended within Garfield Park. Unattended bags will be confiscated and removed from the park.

• Bags not claimed by 11:30 a.m. can be claimed through the Lost and found page of the event website. Any items unclaimed by Friday, June 30, 2023 will no longer be available.

Reuse and recycle! We encourage you to reuse your participant bag following the race. When you’re ready to dispose of the bag, think about bringing it to a facility in your area that accepts plastic bags for recycling. To find a drop off location near you, visit: bagandfilmrecycling.org

BIB NUMBER

Your Bank of America Chicago 13.1 bib number is a unique identifier that must be visible at all times on race day. What you need to know about your bib number:

• Pin all four (4) corners of your bib to the outermost layer of clothing on your chest.

• Your bib must be visible at all times.

• Wearing your bib improperly (pinned at your waist, pinned to race belts or fuel belts etc.) could result in improper scoring and/or disqualification.

• Include your emergency contact and medical information on the back of your bib number.

• Your bib number is non-transferable and must be worn only by you.

• The sale or transfer of your bib number is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.

TIMING DEVICE

You must wear your bib number as instructed above throughout the entirety of the race to record an official finish time and place for the Bank of America Chicago 13.1. A timing device is permanently attached to the back of your bib number. Do not remove the timing strip from your bib, fold or damage it in any way. Your time will be recorded from the point at which you cross the timing mats at the start line until you cross the timing mats at the finish line. The timing device is single-use and does not need to be returned after the event.

ON-COURSE PROHIBITED ITEMS

Wheeled devices are not permitted on the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 course by anyone other than registered and authorized wheelchair participants, duo team participants and authorized course marshals on bicycles. Prohibited wheeled devices include unauthorized wheelchairs, baby joggers, baby strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles or any other wheeled devices. Motorized devices of any kind are prohibited.

The use of selfie-sticks, camera mounts or rigs, video devices, computers, drones, unmanned aerial devices, or any similar devices by anyone while participating in the event is prohibited.

Camelbaks® and any type of hydration backpack are prohibited. For the avoidance of doubt, fuel belts and hand-held water bottles are allowed.

The use of music devices is permitted during the race; however, in keeping with USATF rules for championship races, athletes competing for overall awards or prize money may not use music or communication devices during the event.

The use of cell phones, cameras or similar devices by participants while in the event is discouraged, and event officials reserve the right to disqualify any participant using such devices who pose a safety hazard on the course.

Additional prohibited items on the course route include but are not limited to: large bags (backpacks, suitcases and rolling bags), hard-sided coolers, props and non-running equipment, including flagpoles and sticks, pets/animals (except service animals that are trained to perform specific work or tasks for a person with a disability), alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, chairs, weapons, remote controlled aircrafts and drones.

Prohibited items at the event site in Garfield Park include but are not limited to: hard-sided coolers, pets/animals (except service animals that are trained to perform specific work or tasks for a person with a disability), alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, chairs, weapons, remote controlled aircrafts and drones.

Please note, any items deemed to be dangerous or inappropriate will be confiscated at the sole discretion of security personnel.

TOILET FACILITIES

Toilet facilities are located east of gear check and immediately south of the start corral gateways in Garfield Park. Allow for ample time to get to your start corral prior to the start of the race.

Did you know the paper products used in the toilet facilities on the course and throughout Garfield Park are made of 100% recycled materials? This is another step the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 has taken to be a more sustainable event.

AID STATIONS

Aid stations are located along the course one to two miles apart. Each aid station consists of the following amenities in this order:

• Medical Tent

• Toilet facilities

• Nuun Endurance (pre-mixed lemon-lime flavor)

• Water

There will be a Biofreeze Pain Relief Zone at Mile 10 where the Biofreeze Cooling Crew will be armed with Biofreeze spray to cool the pain and help you cross the finish line.

MEDICAL SUPPORT

Medical support is available at seven on-course locations. Each is staffed by a team of medical professionals, is equipped with emergency and first aid supplies and has access to ambulance service.

In Garfield Park, the Main Medical Tent is located directly beyond the finish line. For the safety of all participants, only those requiring medical assistance may access the medical facilities. If you feel like you need medical assistance on race day, you are encouraged to seek help from a medical volunteer or visit a medical tent in Garfield Park or on course.

RACE DAY PRIVATE LACTATION SPACE

Private lactation spaces are available to postpartum event attendees on race day. Pop-up inflatable lactation pods provided by Mamava are available on the north side of the Gold Dome Field House near gear check. This space will be available to registered participants and event attendees before, after and during the race. Staff onsite will assist those interested in using the space. Questions about the space can be emailed before the event to office@chicago13point1.com.

Mamava, the inventor of freestanding lactation spaces, is transforming the culture of breastfeeding with humancentered design solutions for breastfeeding parents on the go. Mamava also donates pop-up inflatable lactation pods to support parents at conferences and events, celebrating the idea that breastfeeding happens everywhere. Lend a hand, save a life! Participants, volunteers and event staff are encouraged to watch an instructional Hands Only CPR video from the American Heart Association in advance of race weekend. This training is critical and can be lifesaving.

PACE TEAM

Need some extra support in your goal to finish the Bank of America Chicago 13.1? Are you looking to run a personal best? The pace team will help you meet your performance goals.

The pacers will be established in the following corrals for these half marathon finish times:

A: 1:30, 1:40

B: 1:40, 1:50

C: 1:50, 2:00

D: 2:00, 2:15

E: 2:15

F: 2:30, 2:45, 3:00

COURSE TIME REQUIREMENT

The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 has a course time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes (03:15:59). After this time, the course will re-open to vehicular traffic. You must maintain a 15-minute per mile pace (approximately) or faster, completing the full race distance (13.1 miles)—start line to finish line—within the event time requirement.

Participants who finish outside of the time requirement may not receive full on-course support from aid stations and traffic safety personnel. Runners who finish outside of the time requirement may not be recorded as official finishers.

TIMING CHECKPOINTS AND MILE MARKERS

Timing checkpoints and mile markers will be positioned at the start line, throughout the course and at the finish line. Your event timing device, attached to the back of your event bib number, will register your time at each timing checkpoint. Digital clocks at the finish line will display the elapsed race time, which begins with the start of the race (7 a.m.). Your individual race time may differ depending on when you cross the official start line.

LIVE RESULTS AT CHICAGO13POINT1.COM

The most efficient way to stay updated on race day results is at chicago13point1.com. The mobile-friendly race website allows spectators to view our race leaderboard and to follow friends and family by getting real-time updates and race results.

AGE GROUPS

Age groups: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over. The top finishers in each age group will receive an award.

RUNNER REFRESHMENT

Refreshments will be available following the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 within the Runner Refreshment area, including Nuun Endurance (lemon lime), bottled water and That’s It bars. Only race finishers will be allowed in the Runner Refreshment area. Once you exit the finish area, you may not re-enter.

RACE DAY FESTIVAL

The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 Race Day Festival will be held in Garfield Park immediately following the 13.1 mile run on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Race Day Festival will feature community and sponsor booths along with music and food. Participants 21 years or older will receive a drink ticket attached to their bib number that can be redeemed for one (1) Solemn Oath Lu Kolsch or Small Wave beer, City Water Pink Lemonade or Peach Lemonade hard seltzer or Go Brewing No Regrets Lite Lager, New School Sour or Sunshine State Tropical IPA non-alcoholic beer.* Additional drink tickets will be available for purchase for participants 21 years or older at the Race Day Festival. Drink tickets can be purchased for $6 and redeemed for one (1) Solemn Oath beer, City Water hard seltzer or Go Brewing non-alcoholic beer.

Look for Zero Waste Stations throughout Garfield Park where green team volunteers will be on hand to ensure your water bottles are recycled and help sort other waste to minimize the materials sent to the landfill.

AMERICAN RED CROSS REUNIFICATION

If a participant is transported to a local area hospital at the discretion of the medical team, the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago’s Reunification staff will be on hand in Garfield Park to provide information regarding that patient to family and friends. Reunification staff can be found in the Information Tents located throughout Garfield Park. Family members may also call 888.659.9877 to speak with a Reunification Operator to inquire about a patient. Refer to the course map for locations and inform friends and family of this service in advance of race day.

SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

Incorporating environmentally and socially responsible practices is an important part of the operational planning, preparation, and execution of the Bank of America Chicago 13.1. The event sustainability program focuses on environmental stewardship, community engagement and outreach, accessibility and innovation. At the event, we encourage you to join us as we work to improve our efforts and reduce our footprint. Thank you for helping to make the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 a more sustainable event!

This year, the event is pursuing certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, a not-for-profit organization which provides objective, independent verification of the socially and environmentally responsible work of sporting events. Responsible Sport certified events are some of the world’s leading examples of responsible sport in action, supporting sustainability and environmental consciousness.

Consider offsetting your race weekend travel. The Bank of America Chicago 13.1 has partnered with Native to provide participants with a way to offset emissions from travel to the event. Native met exhaustive social and environmental standards to be recognized as a Certified B Corporation. All proceeds support Native’s portfolio of offset projects ranging from biodiversity protection to regenerative agriculture. You can purchase offsets from Native within your participant account.

SATURDAY WELLNESS WALK AND YOUTH EVENTS

The newest addition to Chicago’s premier racing portfolio, the Bank of America Chicago 13.1, will offer a unique experience, encouraging runners to reimagine what a running event can be in Chicago. As a part of the festivities, we’re working with West Side residents to introduce wellness-based activities to the race weekend experience. Events include a 1.31-Mile Wellness Walk and a free track and field clinic presented in partnership with USA Track & Field (USATF).

Saturday, June 4 Garfield Park

The Wellness Walk and RunJumpThrow clinic will take place in the south section of Garfield Park. The Wellness Walk will kick off near the Garfield Park Bandshell south of Madison Street and the RunJumpThrow clinic will take place on the turf soccer and football field near South Hamlin Boulevard and West Jackson Boulevard.

PARKING

Parking is available for the Saturday Wellness Events at the Garfield Park Bandshell at Hamlin Avenue and Music Court Circle. Street parking is also available throughout the Garfield Park neighborhood.

WELLNESS WALK

Join us race weekend for the Wellness Walk at the Bank of America Chicago 13.1. The 1.31-mile walk is a family friendly activity that takes participants on a tour of the south side of Garfield Park.

All walkers will receive a unique bib number for this untimed event and a reusable water bottle for participating. Participants can check small personal items at the race day gear check located near the walk’s start and finish lines from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Wellness Walk is open to individuals 6 years of age or older. The entry fee is $10 per person and all proceeds will go to the Garfield Park Advisory Council (Garfield PAC).

RunJumpThrow

Following the Wellness Walk children between the ages of 7 and 14 can take part in USA Track & Field’s free RunJumpThrow clinic. RunJumpThrow is a hands-on learning program, developed by USATF in partnership with Hershey, to get kids excited about physical activity. The clinic will feature a selection of learning stations including dynamic warm-up, running form and technique, standing broad jump, softball throw, and one-legged hop. The noncompetitive program is easily adapted for kids (ages 7 to 14 years old) and lasts around 2 hours. Participants will rotate through stations in small groups based on their age.

BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO DISTANCE SERIES

We are excited to introduce the Chicago Distance Series in 2023. The Distance Series is made up of Chicago’s premier racing portfolio: the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, Bank of America Chicago 13.1 and Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The three races span the outdoor running season and celebrate the vibrant and diverse nature of our local and global running communities. Individuals who finish all 2023 events will receive a unique Bank of America Chicago Distance Series medal and will be eligible for a guaranteed entry into the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

HEALTH & SAFETY HEALTH POLICY

Creating a safe environment on race weekend is everyone’s responsibility. You can contribute to the overall safety of the event by reviewing and following the information outlined below.

• If you have tested positive or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of the event, please do not participate in or attend the event until you have met all recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding quarantine and isolation.

• If you feel sick or experience symptoms of COVID-19 (e.g., a fever of 100.4F or higher, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking, muscle pain/achiness, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nasal congestion, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue or any other symptoms associated with COVID-19 identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) you should self-isolate and not participate in event activities or enter event venues while symptomatic. We encourage individuals experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 to get tested and consult a medical professional for additional guidance.

• All attendees must adhere to local and state COVID-19 guidelines and mandates as of the event date. This includes but is not limited to face masks and following quarantine advisories.

• Please follow best practices on personal hygiene, including regular handwashing (vigorous handwashing with water and soap for 20 seconds or application of hand sanitizer consisting of at least 60% alcohol), avoiding touching the eyes, mouth or nose, and covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

• Individuals who are considered “high risk,” which includes but is not limited to underlying cardiac and pulmonary conditions as well as individuals with immunocompromised states, should consult with their physician and/or reconsider attending or participating in the event.

EVENT ALERT SYSTEM

The Event Alert System communicates the status of course conditions to participants leading up to and on race day via email updates, color-coded signs, PA announcements and flags. Alert levels range from Low to Moderate to High to Extreme based primarily on weather conditions, as well as other factors. All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System before the race, remain alert for directions from race officials throughout the event and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on race day.
