ABOUT THE CCN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund was founded in 1949 by friends of Francis Ouimet and the Massachusetts Golf Association. In that first year, $4,600 was distributed to 13 students. Since 1949, the Fund has awarded $46.6 million in need-based college tuition assistance, including $3 million to 439 recipients in 2022, to over 6,470 deserving men and women who have worked at least two years as a caddie, in a pro shop or in a course maintenance department at a Massachusetts golf course. These scholars, meanwhile, have gone on to excel in school, achieving a 3.4 GPA average and 92% graduating from college within four years.
In addition to their general scholarship program, the Ouimet Fund offers the opportunity for individuals or groups to permanently endow an additional award. They are given to existing Ouimet Scholars who meet the requirements set by the people endowing that scholarship. Currently, there are more than 180 endowed scholarships within the Ouimet Fund, which accounts for 41 percent of the annual scholarship budget, with several being funded by private clubs such as Hyannisport, Woodland, Brae Burn, Oyster Harbors, Eastward Ho! and more.
Cape Cod National endowed an award within
the Ouimet Fund in 2006 to be given annually to a deserving Ouimet Scholar who had worked at least two seasons at CCN. The CCN Endowed Scholarship was initially funded by gifts from John, Linda and Doug Pfeffer, along with monies that the CCN Members had raised to support the education of a favorite caddie.
Kathy Guillard – the 2018 Ouimet Chair of the Year, alongside Mike Walker – took over as CCN Ouimet Chair in 2011 and has continued to expand upon the great work that Bob and Robin Arnold did during their tenure. The Club’s endowment, meanwhile, has grown over the past decade-plus to total over $430,000, becoming the largest club-sponsored endowment within the Ouimet Fund in the process. With the growth of the endowment, CCN has been able to move from one annual award to multiple recipients each year.
While many of the CCN Members have supported the endowment over the years, special recognition is due to those who have joined the Francis Ouimet Society as Lifetime Members.

I just want to first say thank you! Thank you for your incredible generosity and ongoing support of the CCN Endowed Scholarship – the largest club-sponsored endowment at the Francis Ouimet Fund, currently totaling over $430,000. By continually rising to the occasion we, as a Club, are able to create educational opportunities for deserving young men and women who put forth their best efforts on the golf course and in the Golf Shop to provide all Members and their guests with an amazing experience. It is hard to imagine CCN without them.
This year, the CCN Endowed Scholarship directly provided financial aid to four individuals worth just over $40,000. Coupled with more than $35,000 from the Ouimet’s general fund, over $80,000 in total scholarship money was awarded to nine CCN caddies and golf staff.
That said, there is still work to be done to ensure these opportunities remain in place and that the demands of a changing world are met. As tuitions continue to rise, it is even more important for our Club to continue our great tradition of supporting the young men and women who work at CCN. The success of the endowment is funded by Members who have elected to join the Francis Ouimet Society as a Lifetime Member. The Ouimet Society Lifetime Membership welcomed eight couples and one individual from the CCN Family this offseason, including Carolyn Clancy, Doug and Sheila Elliot, Bill and Susan Enlow, Peter and Kathy Joseph, Mike and Sigrid Laughlin, Kevin O’Brien, Jack and Barbara Roessner, Jim and Mary Ann Scaia, and Jeff and Sara Lou Sherman.
The Lifetime Membership donations go directly towards funding the Club’s Endowed scholarship, which is used to support the education of Cape Cod National caddies, golf staff and maintenance staff. This year we are very fortunate to have a strong caddie program, which includes not only familiar faces, but new ones, too. ANTHONY ADELIZZI
Methodist University • Professional Golf Management / Marketing • 2025
Anthony Adelizzi is entering his senior year at Methodist University, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in PGA Golf Management and a minor in Marketing. Anthony was the student speaker at the 2023 Ouimet Fund’s Annual Banquet, where he spoke in front of 1,400 people and received the first Ernie Els Scholarship. He worked Outside Operations at CCN last summer.

Charlie Campbell is entering his senior year at Methodist University, where he is part of the Monarchs Men’s Golf Team. Charlie is majoring in Professional Golf Management and Economics. He is a familiar face at Cape Cod National, having been a caddie at the Club for a decade. He is thankful that CCN Members are heavily invested in supporting caddies and their pursuits.

Jack Vaughan graduated from College of the Holy Cross last December, with a History degree. Jack has caddied at Cape Cod National for nearly a decade — a place where he says he learned the importance of humility and generosity. He believes the CCN Membership is crucial to the success of the caddie program, which has allowed caddies to pursue their collegiate and career dreams.

Owen Van Sickle is a graduate of Northeastern, having majored in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Music Recording. Owen has caddied at Cape Cod National for a decade, learning invaluable skills like time management, customer service and how to solve problems. After Anthony Adelizzi addressed over 1,400 attendees, including former World No. 1 Ernie Els, the Francis Ouimet Fund president Dr. William Healy informed the CCN Endowed Scholar that they would be covering the entirety of his remaining college expenses for the year in what was an emotional moment. Mouth agape, Adelizzi dropped to a squat and put his hand on his forehead—when he rose, he was greeted with a handshake by Dr. Healy and then shared a warm embrace with Els and his wife Liezl.
Adelizzi, who, as a five-year-old, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and nonverbal learning disorder, has shown tremendous courage and determination to not let his situation define him, but instead empower him. The four-time major champion, Els, meanwhile, was recognized with the Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf, notably for his outstanding work with his foundation, Els for Autism. Symmetry brought the two together that April night.
“I’m hoping someone with autism might see my story and get inspired by it. If I can do it, you can do it. That’s the biggest thing to me,” said Adelizzi. His parents, John and Dianne, surrounded him with a team that could help him navigate the disorders, but he also believes the sport of golf
played a pivotal role providing the confidence he needed. “[Golf’s] always been there for me.” He began playing at three-and-a-half. “It’s taught me a lot of life lessons: honesty, etiquette, having fun, and building friendships with other people.”
Adelizzi has made the most of his time at Methodist University. He made the President’s List, which honors those with a 3.90 GPA or better, since starting on the prestigious PGA Golf Management program in 2021. Any reservations he may have had about his ability to pursue higher education are certainly gone.
“The Ouimet Fund is proud of all that Anthony is accomplishing and that he will be an ambassador of our organization for years to come,” said Colin McGuire, the Fund’s Executive Director.
Adelizzi was nervous, but he persevered with an eight-minute speech, where he also thanked Cape Cod National Head Professional Zack Sweet for his mentorship. “With every challenging decision, there are valuable lessons to be learned,” he spoke. “Motivate yourself, get back up, and always listen to the people that care about you. Finally, if you ever meet someone that seems a little different, a simple hello can go a long way. It certainly did for me.”

OUIMET SOCIETY LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP
Cape Cod National Golf Club is proud to have 40 total individuals and couples listed as Ouimet Society Lifetime Members. The plaque featuring these names can be found displayed for all CCN Members and guests to see at the top of the staircase in the Clubhouse.
The current contribution amount for an Individual Lifetime Membership is $10,000 or $12,000 for a couple. Membership can be paid over as many as four years and includes exclusive invitations to Ouimet events throughout the year..
