about the CCN endowed scholarship The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund was founded in 1949 by friends of Francis Ouimet and the Massachusetts Golf Association. In that first year, $4,600 was distributed to 13 students. Since 1949, the Fund has awarded $44-million in need-based college tuition assistance to over 6,325 deserving men and women who have worked at least two years as a caddie, in a pro shop or in a course maintenance department at a Massachusetts golf course. These scholars, meanwhile, have gone on to excel in school, graduating at a 92% rate and achieving a 3.5 GPA average.

the Ouimet Fund to be given annually to a deserving Ouimet Scholar who had worked at least two seasons at CCN. The CCN Endowed Scholarship was initially funded by gifts from John, Linda and Doug Pfeffer, along with monies that the CCN members had raised to support the education of a favorite caddie.

For many years, Bob and Robin Arnold served as CCN Ouimet Co-Chairs and held several fundraisers to support our endowment. In 2011, Kathy Guillard took over as CCN Ouimet Chair, continuing and expanding upon the good work that the Arnolds had done.

Over the past ten years, the endowment has grown to total just over $380,000, becoming the largest club-sponsored endowment within the Ouimet Fund. With the growth of the endowment, CCN has been able to move from one annual award to seven recipients this year.

THE SEVEN CCN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS RECEIVED OVER $40,000 IN TOTAL FINANCIAL AID FROM THE CCN ENDOWMENT.

In addition to their general scholarship program, the Ouimet Fund offers the opportunity for individuals or groups to permanently endow an additional award. These are often named in memory of a loved one or to recognize the group who founded the award.

They are given to existing Ouimet Scholars who meet the requirements set by the people endowing that particular scholarship. Currently, there are more than 170 endowed scholarships within the Ouimet Fund – valuing more than $26-million – with several being funded by private clubs such as Hyannisport, Woodland, Brae Burn, Oyster Harbors, Eastward Ho! and more.

dear fellow members, I just want to first say thank you! Thank you for your incredible generosity and ongoing support of the CCN Endowed Scholarship – the largest clubsponsored endowment at the Francis Ouimet Fund, currently totaling over $380,000. By continually rising to the occasion we, as a Club, are able to create educational opportunities for deserving young men and women who put forth their best efforts on the golf course and in the pro shop to provide all Members and their guests with an amazing experience. It is hard to imagine CCN without them.

This year, the CCN Endowed Scholarship directly provided financial aid to seven individuals worth just over $40,000. Coupled with more than $60,000 from the Ouimet’s general fund, over $100,000 in total scholarship money was awarded to 11 CCN caddies and golf staff.

That said, there is still work to be done to ensure these opportunities remain in place and that the demands of a changing world are met. As tuitions continue to rise, it is even more important for our Club to continue our great tradition of supporting the young men and women who work at CCN. welcomed three couples from the CCN Family this offseason, including Bill and Janet Younker, Jack and Carol O’Neil, and Tom and Kathy Burke. The Lifetime Membership donations go directly towards funding the Club’s scholarship, which are used to support the education of Cape Cod National caddies, golf staff and maintenance staff. This year we are very fortunate to have a strong caddie program, which includes not only familiar faces, but new ones, too. 2021 CCN Endowed Scholarship Recipients

Due to the extraordinary generosity of our Members, Cape Cod National has the distinction of being the largest club-sponsored endowment. This year, recipients were awarded just over $100,000 in combined scholarship money from the Ouimet Fund and the CCN Endowed Scholarship.

WILLIAM CHRISTIAN

Boston College • Economics / Accounting • 2022 William Christian is a recent graduate of Boston College where he majored in Economics with a minor in Accouting. He plans to pursue a career in consulting or finance, but until then, he will be caddying for a seventh season at Cape Cod National. William is proud of what he has been able to learn during his time as a caddie, including the importance of treating others with respect and dignity. William is incredibly thankful to be a CCN Endowed Scholar and Ouimet Scholar and is grateful that the CCN Membership is committed to supporting caddies and their academic pursuits.

JUSTIN L. TURBEVILLE

Connecticut College • Computer Science / Finance and Economics • 2022 Justin Turbeville recently graduated from Connecticut College where he majored in Computer Science and also studied Finance and Economics.

While at Connecticut College, he was a Trustee Scholar, made the Dean’s High Honors list in six semesters, and was part of the Alpine Ski Team. Justin is in his 10th year at Cape Cod National, where he’s learned that work ethic and attitude are two of the few things you can control and that mistakes are inevitable, but there is no excuse for lack of effort or a bad attitude. He will be joining Incapuslate LLC as a Software Developer.

DAVID S. VAN SICKLE

Worcester Polytechnic Institute • Aerospace Engineering • 2022 David Van Sickle graduated in May 2022 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He plans to spend time on Cape Cod caddying for an eighth season at CCN, before pursuing a career within the defense contracting sector. David is extremely thankfully for the support and generosity of the CCN Members and credits them for helping him develop into the young man he is today. Being a CCN Endowed Scholar and Ouimet Scholar has afforded David the opportunity to create career networking opportunities.

JACK K. VAUGHAN

College of the Holy Cross • History • 2022 Jack Vaughan is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, where he majored in History and was named on the Dean’s List. He played Club Rugby Team at Holy Cross. This season will be his ninth at Cape Cod National – a place he says he learned the importance of humility and generosity.

He believes the CCN Membership is crucial to the success of the caddie program, which has allowed him and fellow caddies to pursue their dreams at college and beyond. The support for the CCN Endowed Scholarship and Ouimet Fund has given Jack a lifechanging experience.

OWEN C. VAN SICKLE

Northeastern University • Electrical Engineering / Music Recording • 2023 Owen Van Sickle will be entering his senior year at Northeastern this fall. He is majoring in Electrical Engineering with a minior in Music Recording. Owen had the pleasure of working as an intern at WB Engineers & Consultants as a junior and he has been named to the Dean’s List. He has been a caddie at Cape Cod National for nine years where he learned invaluable skills such as time management, customer service and the ability to solve problems on the fly. He credits being a CCN Endowed Scholars and Ouimet Scholar for giving him the chance to follow his passions without financial burdens.

CHARLES CAMPBELL

Methodist College • Professional Golf Management / Economics • 2024 Charlie Campbell is set to begin his junior year as a transfer student at Methodist College where he will play golf at the NCAA level. Charlie will be majoring in Professional Golf Management and Economics at Methodist and has received the Presidental Scholarship. Charlie is a familiar face at Cape Cod National having been a caddie for nearly a decade. Charlie loves that the game of golf brings together people from different backgrounds.

He’s thankful that CCN Members are heavily invested in supporting caddies pursuing their dreams of going to college.

EILIDH GALLIEN

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute • Environmental Science • 2024 Eilidh Gallien will be a junior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY this coming academic year and she is majoring in Environmental Science.

Eilidh has excelled academically and is active on campus as a member of the symphonic band as well as the RPI Players Pit Orchestra. She is commited to community service and is currently working her second summer at Camp Tapawingo in Maine. Eilidh is adamant that she can look back and see how directly related the lessons learned during her two years at Cape Cod National is to her pursuit of a college education.

2021 Honorary Scholarship Recipients

Honorary Scholars demonstrated all the characteristics and requirements for the full Ouimet Scholarship without the financial need. The following students will receive an annual stipend of $750 for books and miscellaneous expenses during their academic year.

MYLES WALTHER

Virginia Tech • Business Management / Professional Sales • 2023 Myles Walther, who is a past recipient of the CCN Endowed Scholarship, will be entering his senior year at Virginia Tech, where he studies Business Management and Professional Sales. While at Virginia Tech he has been part of the Club Hockey Team. He is thankful for the CCN Membership and wouldn’t want to lug two bags around in the humidity for any other pool of Members.

RORY McLAUGHLIN

College of the Holy Cross • Political Science / Spanish • 2024 Rory McLaughlin is currently a double major in Political Science and Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross where he will be a junior. Rory has been named to the Dean’s List in each of the first four semesters. He is on the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field and Cross Country team at Holy Cross. Rory is thankful for the generosity and kindness from the Cape Cod National Membership.

LIAM McCARTHY O’HARA

Cal Poly State University • Environmental Management & Protection • 2025 Liam O’Hara will start his second year studying Environmental Management and Protection at California Polytechnic State University. He is part of the Club Basketball and Club Golf Teams at Cal Poly. During his five-plus years at Cape Cod National, he has grown in maturity and learned how to interact with different people—things he believes will help him throughout the rest of his life.

ETHAN HAYES

University of Florida • Finance • 2025 Ethan Hayes will be beginning his sophomore year at the University of Florida this coming fall, where he studies Finance. Long-term, Ethan hopes to pursue a career in the field of Private Wealth Management. Ethan has worked and caddied at Cape Cod National for four years and has learned to always put his best foot forward and he’s developed great interpersonal skills that will last him a lifetime.

Ouimet Society Lifetime Membership CAPE COD NATIONAL GOLF CLUB is proud to have 31 total individuals and couples listed as Ouimet Society Lifetime Members. The placque featuring these names can be found displayed for all CCN Members to see in the Clubhouse. The current contribution amount for an Individual Lifetime Membership is $10,000 or $12,000 for a couple. Membership can be paid over as many as four years and includes exclusive invitations to over a dozen Ouimet events annually.

Without The Fund’s considerable financial support it is quite possible I would not have been able to attend college, which allowed me to pursue a challenging business career and further my love for the game of golf. It is gratifying to witness the growth of The Fund over the years and, hopefully in some small way, I have been able to give back through the Lifetime Ouimet Society, by encouraging CCN caddies to enroll and by being part of the interview process where I have met so many outstanding scholars and representatives of The Fund’s ideals.
