WOMEN IN CIVIL COMMITTEE UPDATE

YOUR WOMEN IN CIVIL COMMITTEE – WHAT AND WHY!

The year 2021 was another year of changes and curve balls, but resoundingly, the stories of resilience and success were witnessed across the Civil industry. As a committee, we, along with many of our members, went through times of change and have been trying to create new ways of working to get the job done. We have our members at the forefront of what we wanted to achieve and with that in mind, we refocused our committee and set ourselves up from what is already turning out to be a big year in 2022. So, we want to take this opportunity to share with you what we do, why we do it, and the different ways that you can get involved.

WHO ARE WE?

The committee is made up of a group of volunteers from the CCF SA member base. We come from all walks of the civil industry from Engineers to Procurement, Surveying and Business Managers. The one thing we all have in common is a passion to create opportunities for females in our industry. As a team, we bring together different skill sets whether that’s through our day jobs or we have a skill or desire to add benefit in other ways through committing our time. It’s a great opportunity to share our experiences and grow our network.

WHY DO WE EXIST?

The committee is to have a positive and aspirational focus on women in the civil construction industry, embodied by celebrating women in the industry, from workers on the ground to leadership and management. We want to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the industry, and also to encourage other women to join the industry. Activities designed to meet their obligations include support, mentoring, information and networking opportunities for women working across the civil construction industry. WHAT DO WE DO?

We have a Chairperson, Vice Chair, Treasurer and a CCF SA representative, along with subcommittees that all meet on a monthly basis. The subcommittees are made up of 4 main areas: Communications – Create or collate topics you see on LinkedIn, The Dirt and in Civil Connect. Set up the social media calendars and create ways to engage with members and highlight our online pages and events.

Events – Creating ideas for events that create learning and networking opportunities for members. Planning and investigating events with the support of the CCF SA.

Research – Investigate what is happening in the industry through research and surveys and provide updates to the committee for discussion and action.

Education – Providing options to the CCF SA on how to help educate, as well as create and organise opportunities for women in civil to upskill. A FEW OF THE WIC COMMITTEE MEMBERS AT THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY LUNCH

WHAT’S COMING UP IN 2022 – A SNEAK PEAK

We already had a sold-out event in March for International Women’s Day – be sure to get in quick for our events; they are growing! We have our old favourites such as the High Tea and Festive Lunch (we cannot wait to share who our MCs and speakers are). They are set to be the best yet! We’re also planning some additional smaller events to connect with you on a more regular basis. Our education team is also busy working on some programmes that are a first for us… more to come on that!

Those who follow us on LinkedIn and read The Dirt would have seen that we are now Crows AFLW sponsors – look out on social media for updates on the networking events. As part of the partnership, the WIC invites you to tune in to Coffee with the Coach, Matthew Clarke at 3pm each Friday for the remainder of the AFLW Season. A chance to hear straight from the coach about the weekend’s game plan, along with key player appearances. Email us and we’ll send you the link.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO GET INVOLVED?

Well, that is up to you. There are many ways. We would love your support with attending our events, sharing your ideas and updates, and following and engaging with us on LinkedIn.

We also have vacancies on our committee for people to join us. You don’t need to have been on a committee before and there is a lot of support and guidance. We’ll spend time to make sure you are focused on an area which works for you. You will be part of a group of women who are passionate about the civil industry and enjoy being able to make a difference and create opportunities. If you’d like some more details about how to join the committee, please email womenincivil@ccfsa.com.au or come and have a chat with us at our next event.
