Counter Sales Job Description The Counter Salesperson will increase sales and customer satisfaction by efficiently and courteously assisting walk-in and telephone customers in the selection and acquisition of needed products, by applying technical knowledge to satisfy customer needs. Job Duties: Sales Ability/ Persuasiveness

    

Advises and actively upsells customers on complimentary products beyond the original order. Demonstrates ability to integrate industry partners (e.g. manufacturers, rep agency staff, etc.) into sales opportunities. Sells & promotes the items and products that we stock – provides alternative suggestions to customers who request other products, and successfully converts initial customer requests to stock brands. Learns and demonstrates understanding of basic business analytic skills and their application to customers’ businesses (e.g. builder, plumber, contractor, consumer, etc.). Understands and explains how the company differentiates from our direct and indirect competition. Incorporates the selling process within proposal writing and pricing models to match company expectations. Educates customers on how to differentiate from competitors, and assists customers in increasing their selling skills. Builds relationships – Learns the value of relationships and views building relationships as a critical success tool. Demonstrates effective Presentation Skills to successfully influence and communicate with various audience types and sizes. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of product, COG, margins, competitor pricing etc. when negotiating customer pricing. Analyzes customer’s current and future needs to quickly determine if they can be helped at the Counter or if they need to be passed to the next level of customer service / sales. Builds and maintains customer relationships. Meets and greets all customers at point of sale with service, respect, and knowledge. Adds value to customer and internal interactions by understanding customer business models. Uses company-provided systems for improved planning, history collection, and to adopt new behaviors.

Introduction to Pipe, Valves, and Fittings© This course provides training for new employees about the characteristics and uses of pipe, valves, and fittings products. The course includes definitions of common industry terms, descriptions of basic types of plumbing systems, and explanations of specifications for pipe, valves, and fittings.

Introduction to Steel, Stainless Steel, Iron Pipe, and Fittings© This course provides new employees with training on steel, stainless steel, and iron products. The course includes definitions of common industry terms and descriptions of types of pipe by size, weight, and wall thickness. Explanations of different types of steel, stainless steel, and iron pipe ends and fittings and how they are joined are given, as well as explanations of the common uses of cast iron, malleable iron, and ductile iron.

Introduction to Copper Tube, Plastic Pipe, and Fittings© This course provides new employees with product knowledge on copper and plastic products. The course includes definitions of common industry terms, descriptions of basic types of and uses of copper tube, plastic pipe and fittings. The course details how to specify and order copper tube, plastic pipe and fittings, explanations of applications, general recommendations, and joining methods for different types of copper tube and plastic pipe.

Domestic Water Heaters© This course gives employees the basic knowledge needed to discuss the specifications for different types of water heaters and to understand which type of water heater is best for a given installation application. Definitions of common industry terms, descriptions of the major types of water heaters, and information about similarities and differences in water heaters are provided. This course has been updated to reflect the most up to date information in the

industry and now includes information regarding the 2015 DOE Standards for water heater efficiency.

Domestic Water Well Pumps© This course gives employees the basic knowledge needed to discuss the different types of water wells, principles of pump operation, and the major types of pumps. In order to help your employees serve your customers more effectively, the following are provided: definitions of common industry terms, descriptions of the major types of system components, and other relevant material.

Introduction to Valve Actuation©

This course is an interactive, online program. The course includes definitions of common industry terms, descriptions of the major types of fixtures, and information on the supply and DWV fittings most commonly specified for the installation of these fixtures.

This introductory course on valve actuation will provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities and considerations when planning for valve actuation solutions. A brief review and introduction to various automated valve types is presented, exploring both linear and quarter-turn valves and their actuation capabilities and uses. After this review, a detailed explanation of actuator types are presented, along with their common application scenarios. The final two sections of this course are devoted to discussion of control accessories for valve actuation assemblies, including on/off control accessories, as well as modulating pneumatic control accessories.

Industrial Valves© This course takes employees to the next level with their knowledge and ability to work with a wide range of industrial valves. Employees learn the types, designs, and functions of values, how to identify and solve common valve problems, how to interpret manufacturers’ literature, and how to speak confidently with customers.
