Annual Report 2018

I

t is an initiative to give a comprehensive overview of the macro and micro level analysis of the efforts done in preparing students for the relevant job markets, and the analysis of placement details of the graduating class, to the industry partners, potential recruiters and students. With an objective of making NUSTians a premium choice for employment at the premium companies, both at home and abroad, we give special focus on their mentoring and grooming throughout their stay at NUST followed by intimate engagement with the potential employers. For this purpose, our Career Development Centre (CDC) runs employability skill development programmes to keep NUST students abreast with the job market while our Placement office remains committed to the employers offering employment opportunities for NUSTians. The CDC is dedicated to designing custom-made career programmes to address career gaps of students based on job trend analysis and latest employability skills research reports. In addition, we provide 100% yearly internships to all students during first three years of undergrad, according to students’ demographic distribution, field of study and area of interest. Armed with the latest employability skills and yearly internships, our graduates get employed immediately after graduation. We have achieved 93% employment rate as per QS ranking criteria, which has ranked NUST at 369 in its employability ranking across the world. But more importantly, it is the feedback that I receive from the employers on NUSTians who are simply described as the best-fit!! We have an intimate Alumni network that also supports us in placement of our graduates. I am grateful to them for their continued support. Adopting an open policy, we always welcome corporate partnerships for recruitment and other domains. Our placement office looks forward to joining hands with new employers and strengthening long term mutually beneficial corporate relationship. I can assure the employers that they can trust NUSTians for professional excellence, dedication and commitment. Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retd)

Head of Career Development Centre (CDC)

Head of Placements – NUST Placement Office (NPO)

I have had the privilege to pioneer NUST Career Development Centre (CDC) from its foundation in 2003 to its excellence today. Our mission is to provide career education, professional development services, and career related events designed to assist students and alumni to enter and sustain careers in a global job market. To that end, CDC provides a host of programmes/services to help students discover their skills and career passions. In addition, we help students acquire requisite skills to compete in the marketplace through career modules, networking events, class presentations, curriculum up-gradation and co-curricular activities such as one-on-one counseling and focused group activities. Today, it is imperative that we join hands with business and industry, with our students, with educators on all levels, and with community leaders, if we plan to equip a workforce capable of meeting needs that our business and industry partners are focusing on hiring. The Career Centre at NUST has aligned all their programmes with Employability Skill development so that the skills gap is minimised and more students are leaving our university with the skills, business and industry need to not only survive but also thrive.

NUST Placement Office aims to facilitate NUST students and graduates in securing placements in the industries matching their specialisation. In order to ensure the best practices to secure maximum placement opportunities for our grads at the top recruiting companies, we are actively and aggressively working jointly with industry in enhancing placements of NUST students as well as graduates in the market. For yearly summer internship placements, mandatory at NUST for all the UG programmes over first 3 years, we have an extensive outreach with the industries enabling us to provide internships to our students that suit their discipline and is close to their hometown. These internships provide our students the much needed exposure to the targeted job markets and potential recruiters. Similarly, for job placements, NUST Placement Office conducts the largest number of on-campus recruitment drives for our industry partners, and arranges a number of industry sessions and alumni talk series to ensure maximum placement opportunities for our students and graduates. As NUST is a comprehensive University, we carefully select the industries in our outreach programme, engaging the right industry for each academic discipline thus offering the right man for the right job. With the special focus on the all-round grooming of and soft skills development among the students, we are proud to offer the best talent pool every year to the top recruiting companies, which is why, most of the companies prefer hiring NUSTians over other available resources.

NUST Career Development & Placements Annual Report 2018

Here is what our Industry Partners have to say ! I’ve been coordinating with NUST’s Placement Office for the last 3 years for our campus recruitment drives. The response from the NPO team has been amazing, not just in helping with coordinating the students and sharing our message but also following up with us for the performances of students we hire through on campus recruitment programmes. Their dedicated and strong liaison with Huawei, makes us believe about NPO as one of the best organised industry partners. Rehan Tariq Senior Specialist HR Department Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd.

As an HR professional I am always on the lookout for action oriented, ambitious and passionate professionals. In my experience, working with the NPO has always been very rewarding. I’ve found every individual from NUST that I have personally met, to have a very professional outlook about themselves, in depth knowledge of the subject matter and a natural tendency to think outside the box. They are proficient in applying their knowledge in real life problems and crafting innovative solutions. It is for these reasons that NUST and its graduates will always be my first priority. Sahibzada Junaid Senior Executive Talent Acquisition and Employer Branding ,ZONG

Over the years, we have been extremely impressed with our relationship with NUST and their facilitation to help us liaise and connect with their students. We have had graduates from NUST over the years and they all come with a broad perspective of succeeding in the business community. I would like to congratulate the University for developing leaders with strong business fundamentals and facilitating us to implement various interventions to build future leaders of our country. Farah Amna Assistant Manager Leadership Development, Unilever Collaboration with NUST Placement Office has been mutually beneficial in many aspects. Be it reaching out for sourcing of amazing talent, branding our organization as an employer of choice or guiding their students in industry projects ,we have had a smooth experience of dealing with single platform to connect to all the schools under NUST Hubrah siddiqui Senior Executive HR Ufone CDC has launched a wonderful initiative to educate students on critical skills to increase chances of employability. The sooner we start teaching our students about how to fit the industry and market’s needs, the better we equip them for the future. It is even further commendable that the university priorities the students to such a degree that an entire department is dedicated to these activities, this breaks the monotony of academia with a fresh perspective. I sincerely hope other universities rapidly adopt this programme and make it a part of their curriculum. Adi Abdurab Co-founder Surgengin
