Welcome Wagyu Enthusiasts, WOW, it is hard to believe that it has been ten years! I can still remember the first contact that I received about managing this sale.

I was in Mexico when I got an email from Bubba Kay asking what all I did as a sale manager. The next week we had a meeting at Ralph Lee’s house and, well, the rest is now history. Many of you might remember how primitive we were at the first one in Fort Worth, we have come a long way!

Looking back, there are only a few people that I know have been to every sale, Bubba and Donna Kay and Ralph Lee, as well as Burch Wallace, Brandi and Jake Murphree, Rex Ralston and the gentlemen you see at ringside every year Jay Purchase and Stefan Marchman, and a special thank you to my wife Beth for being a big part of every sale. I want to thank you all for the many years of memories. If I have left anyone out that has been to all ten, please forgive me. I always look forward to the week of the sale, and I would like to thank the crew that has been there to help us for the past 8 years Shawn Kettler, JR Reiger and JD Gartman, if you get a chance, please thank them for making everything run smoothly. Also please thank our new sale chairman, Josh Eilers, who purchased his first Wagyu cattle from right here at this sale.

In ten years, this sale has grown exponentially along with the Wagyu Breed. At any fine restaurant you can find Wagyu beef on the menu while ten years ago you rarely could find this incredible product. And a truly incredible product it is, the future is bright for anybody involved with the Wagyu breed.

Be sure to be at Tenroc Ranch on Friday March 29th to experience all of the activities and educational events that the Texas Wagyu Association has planned, this will by far be the biggest and best, and will include a carcass auction and finish with a social and dance. It is one of the finest events all year for Wagyu Breeders. Thank you to all of the officers and directors of the TWA for the tremendous effort that they put forth every year to feed and entertain everybody in attendance.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE AS AN ABSENTEE BUYER

We have made preparations to bid and buy your livestock through Superior Productions’ “Call or Click-To-Bid” service for those unable to attend in person on sale day. Please note that all of the lots in the sale will also be available for viewing online prior to sale day at www.superiorlivestock.com.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS Turn in Bids Over the Phone. This is our traditional method of buying livestock. To get started simply go online to www.superiorlivestock.com and click on the tab titled “Register for a Buyer Number”. Select the registration form for Superior Productions and print the registration form, fill it out and fax it in to Superior Productions at (817) 378-3380 with a signature on it. You can also mail it in to the address provided on the form. Upon receipt of this information Superior will call you with a buyer’s number and the bid line phone number that you will use on sale day to place bids over the phone.

Michifuku consistently ranks at the top of sire lists for carcass quality, marbling, marbling fineness and ribeye size. Itoshigefuji TF 147 is extremely large in size weighing roughly at 2,640 pounds for a Fullblood Wagyu bull. We chose this bull because there is a desire by some to have a large carcass homozygous polled black wagyu. BAR-R-AB 6123 sold at the BAR R production sale in 2018 for $115,000. He was the numver two ranked carcass bull in the 2017 EPD’s. His EPD’s for marbling are .17, Back Fat .02. ribeye area .53, and carcass weight of 37. The dam of these embryos was ROWE MS HARUKI who was sired by the Australian trait lead HARUKI 2 and has SANJIROU, 068, KITAGUNI JR. on her dams side. These embryos are free of all genetic carriers by parentage. Since this mating occurred BAR-R-AB 6123 has been declared an 80% Wagyu/20% Angus bull. These embryos will produce a 90% Wagyu, percentage and not purebred animals. They will be large, polled, high percentage wagyu with a lot of marbling in their genes.

An astute American Wagyu breeder told me when we first got into the breed that if you wanted a picture of what a Wagyu Bull should look like, BR ltomichi 0602 would be that bull. A low% Tajima bull who weighed 2,100 lbs, many consider him just a growth & frame bull. He is much more than that. He produces fast growing calves and beautiful females with great milk. He was also used heavily for meat production, showcasing his ability to produce top carcasses.

When consulting for bulls to breed with FFX Malachite, we decided on frame Sires’ primarily with heavy Kedaka influence like LMR Nobu. LMR Nobu may be the bull with the most volume, capacity, and growth in the breed. At 2,100+ lbs, I believe Nobu is even more impressive than his Sire Z278 because of his dam, LMR Ms Sanjirou 767T, who at over 1,500 lbs is widely considered one of, if not the best maternal dam in the breed today.

The sire of Lot 244 is Bar R Nakagishiro 56T with a SCD / Tenderness score of AA/8. He shows the growth of his dam, Nakagishi 5. World K imported the Nakagishi 5 cow in their last importation. Nakagishi 5 has four recorded offspring and 56T is the only bull from this cow. This outcross bull will give growth to his offspring. Bar R Nakagishiro 56T has gained a lot of attention due to his extreme phenotypic style, size, and structural correctness.

The dam of Lot 244 is sired by MFC Yasufuku Jr. 7-12, a son of World K’s Yasufuku Jr., a Tajima bull that traces Yasumi Doi to his pedigree three times. In Australia, 78% of his progeny graded three full grades above USDA Prime. MFC Yasufuku Jr. 7-12’s dam sire is Kitateruyasudoi J2810, , a Tajima line bred Kikuterudoi son of Terunegadoi. J2810’s progeny tends to have larger frame scores within the Tajima line. You will find J2810 genetics within those animals with higher marbling scores within the Australian Carcass Trials. Lot 244 dam’s Grand-Sire is World K’S Michifuku, a Tajima Bull thought by many to be the best allaround carcass bull ever to leave Japan. According to World K’S data on Michifuku’s progeny in Australia, 85% graded 3 full grades above USDA Prime. 15% graded 7-9, which would be considered Prime+, and Prime++.

005 Shigefuku J1822is a son of Dai 20 Hirashige who is a son of Kedaka.

Shigefuku is a bull bred from within the main Kedaka lines and inherits strongly from Eiko. He also exhibits higher growth rates, body volume and desirable coat type.

The Kedaka line was formed in the Tottori Prefecture from descendants of the sire Kedaka born in 1959 from the Eiko strain.

Dai 20 Hirashige is an important sire of the Kedaka line. His semen is still used although the price per straw is higher than $1000 each. He gained 84.7 points as an “Ikushu-Toroku” bull which was the highest honor in Japan at the time. The number of registered sons by this bull is very high.

005 Shigefuku was a bull that never left Japan, just his semen. So the supply of semen is almost nonexistent, we were fortunate enough to find a very limited supply and flushed our best cow to this bull.

Shigefuku weighed in at 1735 pounds at 23 months of age, an astonishing weight for any Wagyu bull at that age. We have no known reports of his full mature weight since he never left Japan but realistic estimates are 2400 pounds or more. This is the only known picture of this very rare bull to exist.

LMR Koichi 1409Y, ranked #2 in the LMCC Sire Summary in April 2017 for IMF% (33.25%) and Marble Fineness (31.56). 1409Y’s IMF nearly beat his dam’s sire and number one overall marbling king, World K’s Yasufuku Jr. With 1409Y’s IMF score, he topped other well-known Waguy sires such as Kitaguni Jr., Yojimbo, Itoshigenami, Sanjirou, Shigeshigentani, Michifuku, Fukutsuru 068, and Itozurudoi. 1409Y’s Marble Fineness ranking missed the top spot by two-tenths of a percent. KITATSURUKIKU DOI (FB6387) is the registered name of Westholme 007, and UKB MR ITOKITASURU is the only living, registered, direct descendant of this great original import bull, who was a 3/4 full brother to the world’s #1 ranked marbling bull Fukutsuru 068. Itomichi 1/2 is the sire of legendary meat-wagon 3 time Denver Grand Champion bull Sweet Willie, and adds thickness, growth and milk like few bulls in the breed can. Umezuru Doi’s dam Nanashi weighed 1542 lbs the day after traveling 27 hours non stop in August in the back of a trailer from TransOva, Iowa to our ranch in upstate New York. She is by far the largest framed, highest growth >60% Tajima cow we have ever seen. Her sire Itozuru Doi 151 is considered the greatest carcass sire by A to Z Feeders, the biggest wagyu F1 feedlot in North America with 10,000+ F1’s and fullbloods on feed. They have hundreds of black wagyu fullblood bulls they use to make F1’s and the sire of the vast majority of them is a clone of Itozuru Doi 151. Here you have an Akaushi sire line bred the greatest Akaushi bull of all time bred to what may be the largest framed, highest growth high Tajima dam in North America, who just happens to be a direct daughter of the highest rated commercial black wagyu bull by the largest wagyu feedlot outside Japan and Australia. ‘Nuff said!
