WHAT IS NORTHERN SOUL? Northern Soul was a dance and music movement that emerged from the North of the UK in the 1970’s based on rare black American soul music The music comes from the lesser known labels & artists, the lesser-known Motown records, B Sides and more commercially unsuccessful numbers, as well as from the musicians and artists that independently released. An underground scene that was about the music & dance first and foremost.

The Wigan Casino, The Blackpool Mecca, The Manchester Twisted Wheel plus many more venues hosted regular ‘all-nighters’, where DJ’s played the rarest of soul.

The upbeat feel of the music delivers a passion that will grab anyone’s attention, and the vocals communicate stories that can pull at anyone’s heartstrings.

The Northern Soul scene refused to stay underground.

Over 40 years later the music is loved by milllions wordwide.

The fans adore the music, the history of the scene, and of course the definitive dance steps known as “Northern Soul Dancing”.

BRINGING YOU THE ULTIMATE NORTHERN SOUL EVENT Establishing themselves in 2009, The Signatures started on the UK scooter and Mod scene, progressing on to the UK Northern Soul scene as well as playing major music festivals and corporate events.

Bringing their own brand of power and energy, The Signatures put their own expression to many classic and rare and Northern Soul numbers creating a true sonic balance between authentic and modern, playing the music from the world famous Northern Soul clubs like The Wigan Casino, The Twisted Wheel and Blackpool Mecca.

ORIGINAL NORTHERN SOUL ARTISTS AVAILABLE FOR EVENTS - PRICE ON APPLICATION The Signatures and have been privileged to work with many original Northern Soul artists such as Dean Parrish, Tommy Hunt, Sidney Barnes, Brenda Holloway, Tobi Legend, Spyder Turner, Pat Lewis, Jimmy Thomas, Bobby Brooks Wilson, Chairmen Of The Board, and Ruby Andrews.

In 2019, The Signatures are proud to be performing with Nolan Porter, Eddie Holman, Chris Clarke, Lorraine Silver and Gloria Jones.

STEFAN TAYLOR Stefan Taylor has been regularly playing and fronting The Signatures for the last three years.

Stefan Taylor was brought up on the sounds of Northern Soul and Motown, with his Dad being a DJ in the scene back in the ’70s and ’80s.

Stefan has a remarkable voice and at only 25 years old is one of the youngest and most promising vocalists on today’s UK soul scene.

With exceptional vocal control and pitch-perfect tonal accuracy, his ability to faithfully pay tribute to Soul icons in his own unique style truly sets him apart from other singers on the scene.

TOMMY HUNT Tommy Hunt - a legend of the Northern Soul scene got his start in the iconic Doo-wop group “The Flamigos” (Only Got Eyes for You) Through the 1970’s, Tommy Hunt performed regularly at the world famous Northern Soul Club, The Wigan Casino - to this day he is the only artist to have recorded a live album there.

He is considered to be an iconic artist and is adored by fans across the scene - he is an inductee into The Rock and Roll, Doo-wop and Vocal Harmony Halls of Fame.

A true star in all respects - even at 86 years young, he can still belt with the best and is one of the most humble and down-to-earth musicians you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

Tommy Hunt is available as part of our Northern Soul Nights performing live musical entertainment as well as meet and greets with his fans!

NORTHERN SOUL NIGHTS The Signatures has become so much more than just a band - with support from the associated management companies, The Signatures can offer a complete event solution.

Working with many promoters, event planners and venues, The Signatures can offer further services such as a selection of DJ’s playing from vinyl records, bringing an authentic feel to any event.

We also have a selection of experienced Northern Soul dance teachers that can hold dance workshops, encouraging people to get “Out On The Floor” - a favourite for our corporate team-building clients and hotel weekenders, it also has had great success at vintage, retro and music festivals .

The Signatures can supply the required PA, lighting, staging and marquees should a temporary structure be required for an event. Should the venue require styling/dressing, our partnered suppliers can create the whole look and feel for your event as well as media services such as online content to assist with marketing and ticket sales, or creating a memorable video to capture the event.

Whether you need a full compliment of services or just the band, the main thing that The Signatures provide is great entertainment, great music, and an insight into one of the UK’s greatest underground music scenes.
