HOW WE SERVE

IN-SCHOOL CLOSET PROGRAM

Our In-School Closet Program provides students in local public schools with clothing and other necessities in a discreet and dignified environment free of charge. We transform unused spaces inside schools where 50% or more of the student population is living in poverty. Accompanied to their closet by a trusted school faculty member, children are granted the agency to choose an unlimited amount of basic necessities to help them attend school and thrive in and out of the classroom.

87% of students believe having access to clothing and personal items right in your school is important.

“Catie's Closet has been a game changer for Renaissance School. The students are comfortable asking for needed clothes, socks, or hygiene essentials. Parents who have been evicted from their housing are left with nothing. The family and student are beyond grateful for the needed items. Many times the student and their families are left speechless because they know people or Catie's Closet cares. They have hope for another day.”

“One day we had a student removed from their home. A social worker picked them up from school. Because we had Catie's closet this student was able to go to a foster home with both regular clothing for day to day and school uniforms. It was a terrible situation made bearable by Catie's Closet!”

“As a school counselor I can often feel limited in meeting the needs of my students however Catie's Closet has given me the resource every student should be provided - clean clothes that allow for self expression and preparedness for weather and toiletry items that help them take care of themselves and help them feel their best.”

“I have been a school nurse for close to 30 years. Since it arrived I have seen Catie's Closet bring comfort, cleanliness and confidence to our children. It has filled a big gap. It is a resource that I turn to time and time again. It is a clean change of clothes for the little ones who have been sick or had an 'accident'. It is comfort for the child who comes to school wearing shorts in the winter or sweats when the temperature is +80 degrees. It is comfort for the child who is wearing pants that no longer button. It is a warm jacket and boots rather than a sweater when it is snowing. It brings a smile and pride to the child who was wearing soiled clothing. It is a pretty ponytail to the little one who didn't get her hair brushed. It is an expression of love and care.”
