Patea's iconic Hunter Shaw building reopens after earthquake strengthening Patea’s iconic Hunter Shaw building was reopened in late September following $650,000 worth of earthquake strengthening and some internal refurbishments. The earthquake strengthening work brings the building up to 67 per cent of the New Building Standard. South Taranaki District Mayor, Ross Dunlop says he was very pleased to see the work completed as the Hunter Shaw building is part of the unique streetscape of Patea and of South Taranaki’s heritage. “The building is listed as a category 2 heritage item by Heritage New Zealand (previously known as the New Zealand Historic Places Trust). The aim was to keep the heritage features of the building, while bringing it up to the appropriate safety standard,” says Mr Dunlop. The strengthening work involved removing the floor, installing ground and structural beams, relining the internal walls and replacing the flooring. It also saw the replacement of a

wind vane which hasn’t been on the building since the 1950’s. Mayor Dunlop says the Council is very grateful to the Lotteries Community Facilities Fund who granted $450,000 towards the project with the Council funding the rest.

This Georgian style building on the main street of Patea was built in 1930. Funding for the combined Library and Plunket Rooms was courtesy of a bequest from the estate of Mr Hunter Shaw. Mr Shaw was a Whenuakura farmer who died in 1927 leaving a sizeable legacy (£8,500) for various charitable institutions. Shaw had bought and developed a 500 acre block of land known as "Crescent Falls". Born in Ireland, he was one of nine children - all unmarried. Of particular interest is that the architects were the notable Auckland firm, Gummer and Ford. The plan was very similar to the award-winning Remuera Library built in 1928. Gummer and Ford have been described as the most prominent architectural practice in New Zealand in the 1920s, responsible for such buildings as the Auckland Railway Station and Wellington's National Art Gallery and Museum. The firm also designed the "Kings Building" in New Plymouth on the corner of Brougham and Devon Streets. The construction of the library was supervised by well-known Hawera architect, John Duffil. A Christian Word

We are influenced by others in so many ways. i.e. peer pressures. We sometimes accept other people’s views without checking out the authenticity of it. Is it because we are too lazy to check things out for ourselves? Relying on others to bring the truth into our lives is not entirely a safe or wise choice. My thoughts go to what Charles Darwin’s “theory” – that we all came from apes! My bible tells me that animal flesh is one kind and human flesh is one kind, so I ask myself, God does not make mistakes, He alone is truth, so at what point of history did a crossover of animal flesh to human flesh occur? How come this one “slipped” past God? It didn’t! But this is a point in question to all of you to ask yourself, was Darwin right or is God right? You see, you and you alone are responsible for decisions you make, you are what, where and who you are today because of decisions you made yesterday! As a point of interest, responsible as well! (I acknowledge there are people who have had no say in circumstances of their life) but to those of us who have had the freedom to draw conclusions, then God allows you to do so, that displays the power if His great love to you. In the New Testament, Romans chapter 1 v19-20 tells us clearly this, “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse”. The bottom line, you have got to be so sure, 100% confident of your conclusions, not others, you will stand before God Almighty on that day He judges all mankind and your conclusions, if not based on truth – God’s truth, you will be judged accordingly. I’m absolutely certain of a creator, a powerful and immensely intelligent God who created all this beauty and His crowning glory is you! Take time to re-assess your thoughts, ingrained over years of possible mistaken thinking. If you look at a sunset, a new-born baby, friends, laughter, tears, all these astoundingly marvellous and pleasant sights, sounds, smells and the most amazing … love! We know right from wrong, it’s nicer to love than hate! God has placed everything about us so that we are without doubt as to His perfect hand upon all He has created! “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being”. Rev 4: 11.

We have also been choreographing and practicing our dance for the production. This term, students in Kowhai Hub have also been enjoying learning about ‘Bee-Bots.’ We have been very lucky to have Sarah from the Waverley LibraryPlus come and teach us how to use these colourful robots designed for children. Our sessions with Sarah involve each student using a Bee-Bot to sequence commands and problem solve so they can correctly reach their destination.

Maxwell and Districts Kindergarten

We are loving the arrival of spring at Maxwell and Districts Kindergarten, seeing new growth on the blossom trees and bright sunny days return. The children have been eager to help with planting our vegetable garden outside, figuring out the amount of compost and potting mix to fill our boxes with, loading it in and carefully adding the vegetables in. One of our generous families gifted us some pea straw that we carefully sprinkled around the top before we watered each new plant. We were also lucky to have two double concrete tubs gifted from whānau, at our back entrance to Kindergarten. Our little helpers were educated on carefully taking the colourful snapdragon plants out of each cell from pushing the roots at the base instead of pulling the flower at the top! On our deck we also have planted some inside plants that some of the children particularly enjoyed being involved in. When finished two of the girls went straight to the painting easel to paint our new deck plant a painting. Showing it to the plant and asking “do you like your painting?” Before hanging them up to dry. They named our new plant “Rainbow wish”. Just this week we also potted a cherry tomato plant to our garden collection, another gift from our generous whānau. The children are learning so much about planting, nurturing our earth and environment and taking ownership of the on-going care of our plants by being involved in the process. Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful spring too. Michaela, Katherine and Annie

Patea Waverley Gardening Club Greetings all gardeners! Daylight saving has commenced and Spring flowers are looking wonderful in our gardens. A few showers last week have helped with the growth so fingers crossed that there will be some warmer nicer days just around the corner! The first activity we are in the middle of planning is the hugely successful Taranaki Garden Festival Bus Mystery Tour which this year we have planned for Thursday 7th November 2019. Many of those who went last year have advised they want to come again to this year’s event so it is best you now confirm with the organisers and book your seat on the bus. Please contact any of the ladies listed below to make sure your name is on the list. We MUST have confirmation that you will be attending by Friday 1st November 2019. This year we anticipate the bus will leave Wanganui at ¼ to 8 am then meet those boarding in Waverley at 8.30 am from the Community Centre on Chester Street and then meet up with those wanting to leave from Patea at 8-50 am from the Masonic Lodge Building on Stafford Street. The cost for the bus trip which includes entry to gardens we visit as well as morning and afternoon tea and the usual surprises, is $40. On the day you will only have to bring along your own picnic lunch and a few dollars for purchases. Please Note: Payment is required when you book your bus seat this year so please drop of your payment to Moore Markhams Office in Waverley or arrange to give to Sue Gunn in Patea. I am currently an elected member of the TDHB and am seeking re election for a second term. During my 40 years service with TDHB in various nursing roles I have had close association with management both nationally and locally as a lead advocate for nurses and a strong campaigner for patients and their rights. I was awarded Honorary Life Membership to NZNO for services to nursing. I have close ties to the rural sector and extensive knowledge and understanding of health services from both community/rural and hospital perspectives. I advocate for quality systems of health promotion, early intervention and prevention that ensures people enjoy life to the fullest. Secondary and primary health services must work collaboratively to give strategic direction in how cost effective care is delivered to ensure sustainable and achievable improvements of health outcomes. In my view, a strong Health Board should be transparent and should consult and listen to the community it serves. My Passion is to ensure that all people of the Taranaki region have access to appropriate affordable healthcare services. Right Time, Right Place, Right Care I believe healthcare regardless of age, ethnicity, income or location is a basic human right.

Mokoia School – Lighting the way to the future for your child

Pet Day Spring. The time when the flowering cherry trees flower line our school driveway and tuis eagerly source the kowhai flowers. It is also one of the most anticipated times of the year PET DAY. This year was a fantastic day with a great community vibe as friends, family and past community members joined in. We had a strong contingent from our major sponsor – WESTSIDE - who participated in every aspect of the event. It was lovely to be able to have calves this year and lambs are always a delight. You can’t go wrong with names like Trixie, Daisy and Bruce. There was also an interesting collection of pets with the usual cats and dogs, chickens, a blue tongued lizard and a horse called Misty. The children, with their teachers, had themed the decoration of the classrooms to the age of the dinosaurs and the olden days. There were living plants, fossils, dinosaur gardens, stitching and arrange of “olden day” crafts and objects. Senior children also organized the setting up of stalls and proved to be good businesspeople on the day as they practiced their financial literacy skills, selling their wares and using money. Everyone enjoyed the glorious spring day as they enjoyed their BBQ lunch. By the time the cake auction came, competition was fierce. The highest price going to a creation by Loralee Chitttenden. The fundraising committee would like to thank everyone for supporting this event. Other recent events have included an informative show about asthma and how to manage it. A wonderful orange puffer fish ensured the children were engrossed and learnt positive messages about how to manage their asthma. Swimming lessons and skills for life session have continued. The senior children enjoyed their cross country run with our other cluster schools and the juniors had their own run around our school grounds a few days later when the weather was more friendly. We have had a very busy and productive term of learning. Kia kaha Mokoia School children. Our preschooler programme continues weekly and a Reading Together programme for parents and whanau will run on a Friday in Term 4. Please give the school a call if you are interested in learning how to support children with reading at home. The staff – Helen, Carike, Heaven, Pam, Sarah and Kayleigh - wish you all a safe and happy time over the school holidays. Angela Davy, Principal

Stoats Galore TRC Councillor Neil Walker was astonished to find how many stoats there are about in our local Taranaki bush. Recently an area in South Taranaki owned by the Walker family has become the 5th of their Queen Elizabeth II Covenants. The area, known as Kaka Creek Covenant, is 105h of standing native bush between Rangitatau West and Waitotara Valley Rd. The family is looking to take an active part in trapping the various predators in the block. Daniele Maspani, who manages the block, was told by Regional Council staff that the neighbour, who holds a similar block and who also works with TRC, has caught no less than 98 stoats and weasels in the last 18 months. (another QEII block) “This is astonishing” said Councillor Walker, “you cannot but be shocked about what these mustiloids must be doing to our native birds”. Daniele Maspani said he had noted “the silence of the forests” and you can see why. TRC Officers say that the one good thing is that there are still good numbers of Kiwi in the area. The Kiwi can, once it is of sufficient size, fight off stoats. “If 98 stoats can exist in such a small area it is mind blowing how many there must be in the whole area” said Councillor Walker. “It is heartening however to find fragments taking such steps to deal with the problem.” The Taranaki Regional Council is pressing on with its ambitious program for a Predator Free Taranaki by 2050.

Kia Ora Koutou everyone, Bring back the lovely Spring weather we had last week! A big Waitotara welcome to Alex Coe and Chelsea Mayhew into the senior room. We are lucky to have Megan Buchanan, a second year teaching student, in the Junior room and Nadine Fuchs, a German teacher trainee in the Senior room until the end of the term. The Seniors are looking forward to learning some German phrases and about the German culture. Dan and his gardening helpers have done a great job of planting our donated fruit trees along the school boundary. We are very grateful for Dan giving up his time and to Bunnings, Mitre 10, Wanganui Garden Centre and Springvale Garden Centre for the generous donations of trees; feijoa, mandarin, apple and oranges. We are all looking forward to these growing and producing fruit for the school. We’ve had many outings recently; Thirteen children attended the West Country Cross Country at Westmere School on Friday 30th August. The children did really well in their running! Years 7 and 8 did well in the Super 6 Racquet sports competition, with our West Country squash team coming second equal. You can also find us on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/St-JosephsSchool-Patea Special Character Part of our guiding principles for our tamariki are following the concept of TAHI: T – Taking Responsibility A – Achieving Excellence H – Having Respect I – In it together The tamariki learn what it means to be a TAHI student and are given regular examples of what this may look like. What’s Been Happening at St Joseph’s Patea... Hākinakina / Sport Touch Rugby We are now into the warmer months and some of our tamariki have signed up to play Touch Rugby. Our tamariki have combined with Patea Area School in the varying age groups and are part of the teams entered in the Hāwera Touch Rugby Competition. We have representatives in both the Year 3 & 4 team and Year 5 & 6 team. Our teams have had a good start to the season and the Year 3 & 4 team have had a particularly good start winning their games for the past few weeks. Awesome to see them getting involved in sport and attending training. Cross country We have held our Cross Country this year at Kakaramea. The tamariki did extremely well and all participated in this event alongside the tamariki from Kakaramea. Some of our tamariki qualified for the Inter Cluster Cross country also, fantastic effort by all tamariki. Here are a few of the tamariki that placed on the day.

Enviroschools This term our key focus is on “Zero Waste”, we are learning what this means and have been in discussion about what waste is and types of waste. The tamariki have been learning a lot and we have also had some awesome workshops with the assistance of our Enviroschools Facilitator Whaea Esther. The tamariki have learnt how to make beeswax wraps, done some art work using natural products, screen printed some cards and done a bit of collage.

The tamariki are learning skills which promote sustainable practices and “real life” learning. It is great to see that they are using the beeswax wraps they made in their lunchboxes to wrap their kai replacing the use of plastic which in turns lessens waste and the impact of the environment. We have also created our compost bin and have it up and running which will serve two purposes, to reduce waste at school and help feed our gardens. Fantastic work tamariki ma.

Kaupapa We have had a very busy term and have had a lot of kaupapa going on this term. Some of the events and mahi we have been up to since the last issue include but is not limited to what follows… Sailor's Educational Asthma Show The Sailor Asthma Show is an educational musical show performed by Sailor the Puffer Fish and entertainer Chris Lam Sam. The show is about raising awareness and educating kids about asthma - the show includes tips on how to manage asthma, learnings around asthma triggers and also what to do in an asthma emergency. The show communicates the serious message to children in a fun and lively entertaining way.

The Rubbish Trip The Year 3-6 tamariki attended a presentation by Hannah & Liam also from "The Rubbish Trip" at Patea Area School and how they live waste free. Very proud of our tamariki who listened intently and asked and answered questions. This linked to our Zero Waste kaupapa we are learning about.

October 2019 - 13

Arts & Crafts The tamariki have been doing some fantastic rock painting with Whaea Jemaima and their skills have definitely improved. They are getting very creative and extending their creative skills on a weekly basis.

We also had a go at Furoshiki (Japanese folding technique) we saw demonstrated by Hannah & Liam from The Rubbish Trip. Thanks to a kind donation of old material samples we took on the challenge...with great success I might add. Here are a few types we tried. Next time we'll try with a bigger piece of cloth. You can use these to make an instant bag, carrier, vege bag etc when out shopping or you need to carry items. Ka rawe tamariki ma.

Patea Library Plus Every Wednesday our tauira (students) have been going to the Library. A huge thank you to Matua Ricki for sharing his skills with our tamariki. If you are interested in joining your tamariki or yourself up at the Patea Library, it is a free and easy process. here are so many services available both in the Library and online. The also offer some great holiday programmes for the tamariki. Check them out. God bless you all, Saint Joseph’s School – Patea

Waverley Community Patrol

On the 28th August Waverley Community Patrol took proud ownership of a new Suzuki Vitara that became our new patrol vehicle. Many thanks to Gary at Suzuki NZ for organising it for us and Suzuki NZ for their sponsorship of our patrol. It would not have been possible without the funding we received from TSB Community Trust, so a big thank you, to you as well. Dean at Morrie Gibbons Signs, we thank you for your patience and to you and your team for such a fantastic sign writing job done on the vehicle. Chris at Comtel, many thanks for setting up the radio, dash cam and lights. Just sorry nothing went to plan but we finally got there. Chris and Vicki at Waverley Motors, we have appreciated all you and the team have done keeping our old car legal and on the road. Pub Charity a big thank you for the funding we received from you for our new uniforms. To Shane at AMI Insurance thank you for sorting out the insurance for our vehicle, and to AMI for your sponsorship of our patrol. Our patrol members also wish to thank, Waverley businesses, Waverley Lions Club and all the people who have helped to keep our patrol up and running. We appreciate all help you have given to us. Last, but not least, a super big thank you to our PLO Constable Darren Barrow, who without his input, our patrol would not be able to run so successfully. To know that through the police statistics that our patrol is helping to keep our community safe is what makes us volunteers go out patrolling regardless of the weather. If you have one or two nights free to go out patrolling and one night for a meeting and training night, we would love to hear from you.

Essential Freshwater Proposal

The Essential Freshwater proposal is the Government’s latest jab at farmers. The Ministry for the Environment (MfE) is looking to make major reforms to current regulations and create a new National Environment Standard for freshwater. Among the proposals are “interim controls” on farming intensification, increased fencing, and substantially reducing the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in freshwater rivers and streams, to levels some have called unnecessary and outright unachievable. New Zealander’s want healthy waterways to swim in, fish and enjoy, however, MfE’s latest proposals are short-sighted, flawed and will severely limit our most profitable sector. We produce enough food to feed 40 million people. The dairy sector alone accounts for 28 per cent of New Zealand exports. We have to make money to spend money, and that’s not only applicable to the New Zealand economy, but our local economies too. As Tim Mackle, Chief Executive of Dairy NZ, pointed out in his recent NZ Herald column “when farmers don’t have confidence, they close their wallets.” Retailers in our small towns feel the pinch. Taranaki and Whanganui are made up of thriving small towns, enlivened by hard-working farmers. It is time this Government recognises and values an industry they have so far villainised and squeezed in policies like Essential Freshwater, the Zero Carbon Bill, Forestry conversion and Labour’s car tax, which would penalise farmers more than most. Farmers are growing increasingly pessimistic and agriculture sector business confidence is historically low. New Zealand farming is one of the most emissionefficient in the world and it’s constantly improving due to technological advancements and the willingness of farmers to adapt, succeed and uphold our global reputation as safe and sustainable producers. That includes water quality, which has recorded major improvements in five out of eight water quality attributes from 2008 to 2017. No one has done more to clean our waterways than farmers. In fact, farmers have fenced off close to 25,000 kilometres of waterways to exclude cattle. It’s one of a number of achievements made by dairy farmers and partners committed to the Sustainable Dairy Water Accord, signed in 2013. Taranaki in particular has made major advancements in water quality, through intensive riparian planting and sound systems for measuring the health of our freshwater rivers and streams. The blanket wide proposed phosphorus levels don’t take into account the natural levels that come from our maunga, or the many hills, valleys and natural springs that make up our landscape. The Freshwater proposals will likely cost farmers at least $1 billion over 10 years, and our councils will be forced to create new policies and increase monitoring and mapping which will come at a price, no doubt millions. Ratepayers will take on those costs. Public meetings have been held around the country and farmers have until the 31st of October to make submissions on the proposed changes. To make a submission or to read more on the Government’s Essential Freshwater proposal, visit www.mfe.govt.nz. Harete Hipango, MP for Whanganui.

Patea Kindergarten Where has the time gone? It feels like we just welcomed everyone back after the summer break and here we are again with summer getting closer. We have full rolls at Patea Kindergarten with lots of happy, busy children. It is awesome getting to know all the new families that have joined our community this year! Remember, our doors are always open at Patea Kindergarten if you want to call in for a visit with your child, pick up an enrolment form or just have a look at our wonderful environment. We are open between 8.30 and 1.30, Mon-Fri. As always we enjoy making connections with our wider community. This term some of the older children from Whenuakura school have been coming in to read to our kindergarten children. A lot of them shared their own memories from when they attended Patea kindergarten. It was great to see you all again! As part of our ongoing Bi-cultural journey, we have had Whaea Heaven joining us for a weekly Waiata to share her knowledge and support us as we learn. The children have been very happy, motivated and eager to learn the songs that Whaea Heaven has prepared for us. Thank you Heaven! We have a strong focus on the environment here at Patea kindergarten. This is manifested in many different ways. For example, we try to mainly have resources made from wood for the children to play with, as they last longer than plastic. We also teach the children about recycling and how to use less plastic. This term Aileen made Beeswax Wraps with the children to use instead of cling film. She has also been making “plastic bricks with bottles and plastic waste. We enjoy having a nice, big and plentiful vegetable garden which will be the focus next term as it gets warmer. Hopefully the children will be able to bring some vegetables home to share with their Whanau. In term 4 we are looking forward to having a Funky Fun Day and an Open Day for Grandparents and other friends of the Kindergarten Families. Watch this space! Of course we will also be welcoming Santa for our yearly Christmas Celebration in December! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our small but dedicated and hardworking Committee for everything they do for our kindergarten. On the 8th of November they are organising a Ladies Market Night, with lots of interesting stalls. Tickets are available from the kindergarten, for $15 you will get supper and a complimentary drink. Keep your eyes open for more information, this will be a fun night! Finally, a big thank you to all parents that help in the garden, sell raffle tickets, organise fundraisers, do slinky runs and donate bobby calves! This enables us to create a playful environment full of resources for the children to learn in. Robyn, Ireen, Aileen, Loren and Emma

Kakaramea School - together we achieve Spring is well and truly upon us, and here at Kakaramea School we have some budding farmers. We have all enjoyed watching the bellies of the school sheep grow, assisting to flip them when they were cast (Miss O’B is learning what being a rural principal truly involves) and counting how many fresh lambs there are every day. Here is Farmer Flynn and Farmer Kingston checking on the health of the new lambs. Ka rawe, kaitiaki!

The student council recently organised a Wacky Hair Day to raise funds for the Starship Foundation. Pictured here is Terina Brinfield about to take flight, Charlotte Terangihaeata aka Rapunzel, and a wonderful bunch of wacky do’s. Kakaramea’s kind kids raised $200 for this important cause. Kakaramea’s seniors took to the slopes for a cold day of Ruapehu fun. A great time was had by all!

October 2019 - 17 We had a great few days with everyone’s favourite giraffe - Harold. We learnt about healthy food choices, what makes us unique, and how we can be amazing friends. Thanks Michelle and Harold!

Book review! We have a budding critic in our midst. Here’s Sophie Fowler’s review of one of her favourite school books. “I’m the King of the Mountain” written by Joy Cowley, illustrated by Dick Frizzell, published in 2015 by the Ministry of Education, is a Ready to Read children’s picture book for any primary school children. It is a fun sing-a-long storybook. When Flea sets off as King of the Mountain, he is confronted by a menacing hairy beetle and stopped. Beetle then sets off singing, and so on. In the end, Flea regathers his role as King and he lives happily ever after. This is a hilariously funny book, and the illustrations are even funnier.

Waverley Primary School Exciting things have been happening at Waverley Primary School: We have been lucky to have Sarah from the town library come along to school to teach us about Bee-Boots. Bee-Bot is an exciting robot designed specifically for use by young children. It is an easy-to-operate and friendly little robot tool that is perfect for teaching sequencing, estimating and problem solving.

Taranaki Primary School Cross Country Champs competitors:

Manuka Hub: During Term 3, Manuka Hub has enjoyed finding out about Maui and his special skills and powers. Listening to the Creation Legends helped us to understand how some things came into being. We became very familiar with the legend of ‘How Maui Catches the Sun’ as this was our Waverley School Production for September 2019. As a whole school we worked collaboratively to learn all the songs that we would be singing. Then each class had to choreograph and perform a dance to a piece of music. Our song was ‘Slow Down Sun’. We had to perform different movement sequences to suit the lyrics. We helped each other to learn the movements and remember the order of the steps. After many hours of practise, it was soon time to dress in our costumes and perform for real audiences. We were all very excited, and a little bit nervous. Once we were on the stage all of our learning came together and we were really happy to share our performances with whanau and friends.

Waverley Playcentre We’ve had a lot going on this term! We went and visited Waitotara School. We had lots of fun with the big kids and had a blast on their playground. We’ve had pet day. Which we had 3 dogs - Charli’s & Arlo’s dogs Meg & Kim, Bash’s dog Indy. Kylie’s two Budgies, Amelia’s Bunny, and Bash’s Lamb. The kids love seeing, patting and learning about all the animals. And the animals loved all the attention they were getting too! We’ve had lots of Messy Play this term! Slime, gloop, paint, water; the kids thrive on it. Also, lots of outdoor time - sandpit, playgound, swings, bikes, slides. They love it all! Our AGM will be held on Friday 25th October at Abbotsford at 6pm. Everyone is welcome. Please let Lynda know if you are interested 06 346 6482 or 022 466 7782. We love seeing new families at our Playcentre, everyone is welcome! Patea Golf Club

Moody Mugs Final Current title holders Nick Williams and Warren Sanson combined very well to defeat Josh Paerata and Ray Finlay. Josh and Ray had a 2up early lead but four successive pars by Warren on holes eight to eleven swung the game to give Nick & Warren a two up a lead. A good par putt by Ray on the 13th hole reduced the margin to 1up but a short missed putt on the 14th hole by Ray gave Nick and Warren the 2up lead again. Josh made a good birdie putt on the 16th hole to keep the margin at only 2 down but a five by Warren on the 17th hole was good enough for a 2/1 victory to Nick and Warren to be Moody Mugs winners again.

100 Club golf tournament The 100 club golf tournament was played on Saturday 14th September. The wind during the week had the course in good condition and with good playing conditions some very good scores were returned. Highlight of the day was a two scored on the 3rd hole by Alan Hawken to give him 6 stableford points on that hole. A big thank you from the club to all persons who bought a ticket. The fundraising will help to keep our machinery up to date. A field of 60 players participated. Between tournament prizes, accuracy prizes, lucky draws, tournament raffle prizes and the final 100 club draws a total of 53 prizes were presented. If you went home with nothing you were most unlucky.
