A Christian Word

That’s it! Another year almost disappeared, and I wonder how many of you have fulfilled one of your New Year resolutions! How fickle we are… so sincere one to announce our desire to change and we soon discover how empty our words were! Not to put a guilt trip on you! We have to confess we are weak and even though we desire to make a start at changing a lifetime of habits etc, we fail! The most amazing love and understanding towards our failures – are God’s, He knows our every motive, strengths and weaknesses, words that are on our lips even before spoken, God does amazingly and powerfully know and understands us … individually. He sees our endeavours and our failures, but most importantly He sees our hearts, our agendas if you like, nothing is hidden from Him who sees us exposed to His truths. We need a miracle! The greatest miracle of all is the birth, death and resurrection of His son Jesus Christ, all for your benefit, those try hard failing resolutions will be just that, endeavours on your part to “tidy” or “clean” up you act! The purpose of Jesus being here on earth was for you personally, He has ultimately paid the price of all those resolutions, all your sins and weaknesses. When you come to Him realizing that you cannot make changes to be a better person, Jesus will do all that for you. But it’s not a new year’s resolution, this is a powerful life changing moment, a definitive happening that you will fully understand what Jesus told a Jewish priest who quietly snuck in to see Him with a lot of unanswered questions, Jesus spoke ahead of all this man’s questions and said “I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying you must be born again”. Jesus was showing this man how to get his life right, we are a spirit being with a soul living in a body, Jesus told him his need to be “born again” spiritually. One you are I guarantee you … no more new year’s resolutions, no more sinning, nothing that will undermine your person and cause a guilty conscience. All has been removed by God’s loving power through His son Jesus Christ, He is the only way to be forgiven, but even more, now included in God’s family. No guilts, no condemnations, gone forever! No more broken promises to yourself, plainly put, when you believe God through His son Jesus … you’re free! No more broken promises!

Come Lord Jesus Ted Reeves, Patea

ARTHUR DUNNING’S 90TH BIRTHDAY

Family and friends celebrated out Dad’s 90th birthday on the 5th of October at the Patea Golf Club. We were quite worried he might sleep through the party with all the latenight rugby watching! There were many lovely and hilarious speeches of people’s memories with Dad. With Jono strumming the guitar and signing with wife Jess, Charlotte, and Dad’s 4 grandchildren, they sang Tutira Mai Nga Iwi – very special. Dad then cut his cake, which was navy and gold covered with gum paste peonies and roses. Cass and Wai Cassidy, grandson Raine, and Tupito and Dawn Maruera sang Poi E; always a real crowd pleaser and we were very grateful. A fabulous grazing table was done by Red Rock for afternoon tea. We had a great 3 days with one very tired 90-year-old afterwards!

Carlyle Women’s Institute President Mrs Rose Cowley welcomed 8 members to our November meeting, business was discussed. November is International month for all institutes in our federation. This year India was the choice. 8 members went to lunch at Zaika restaurant in Hawera, we had a choice of curries to choose from with naan bread served with rice. A lovely meal. Our guest speaker was Caroline Anso she demonstrated how to make edible centre pieces. We had a go at making some chocolate Christmas trees - yummy. Come and see what we are all about, competitions are not compulsory. We meet the first Thursday of each month, 1.30pm at Patea Old Folks Hall. INTERIOR & EXTERIOR PAINTING WALLPAPERING HOT WATER BLASTING QUALIFIED TRADESMEN

Hello all gardeners! On Thursday 7th November, more than 40 excited garden lovers hopped aboard a bus for the Patea Waverley Garden Club 2019 Garden Festival Mystery Bus Tour. The day promised fine weather for a change that we all welcomed. Our first stop was at King Edward Park in Hawera where the Friends of the Hawera Parks Committee had erected a Marquee and had displays of floral artwork from the area and somewhere to sit and have a welcome cup of tea or coffee and some yummy nibbles. While there, one of the women spoke to us about the Parks in Hawera where a group take care of some of the parks in the area on a voluntary basis and then David Bruce from STDC gave us an overview of the King Edward Park Gardens, which always look amazing any season. Thanks must go to Miranda Cullen for contacting us and suggesting we make this a stop on our tour! We hopped back on the bus again and relaxed as we travelled towards our next destination that was Craigmyle Epiphyllums at Highlands Park in New Plymouth. From the roadside, this property looked like any ¼ acre paradise with front gardens set out beautifully and so very tidy but out the back of the property what a surprise was to be had! A large building containing a wonderful “hobby” for Yvonne and Andrew – they grow and hybridise Epiphyllums (which are the flat leave cactus like plants with large flowers lasting only a day or so that are flowering profusely at the moment for those of us lucky enough to have them). Some took the opportunity to buy “just one more” for their collection. Once again, we jumped back on the bus and made our way on a windy road to Pukeiti – many of us had not been there for a few years and the upgrade of amenities is excellent. While there we each ate picnic lunches and were free to wander areas of the vast 360 ha property. This is somewhere that we could go back time and time again to see something different each time. Back on the bus again (heads being counted each time so as to not leave someone behind….) we made our way towards the coast and then on towards Waitara stopping at Vance and Kathryn Hooper’s Magnolia Grove. This garden is only 14 years old but many of the cacti and succulents are older, having been planted to give the contours of the garden a wonderful Mediterranean theme. There is a vast array of Magnolia species in the garden also – some took the opportunity to purchase “just one more” for their gardens. Following this garden, heads being counted once more, we made our way to Armstrong Garden in Waitara – this garden is truly lovely. Alathea and Bruce have a passion for the English cottage garden style in their large town garden. Herbaceous borders were full of beautiful spring colour and fragrance, featuring a large range of perennials and annuals. Roses were in abundance and their scent and colour added to the colour in this charming cottage garden. Opposite this garden was the very formal garden of Winlea Acre where we met the owners Maurice and Ann Crackett. While Maurice took charge of afternoon tea with one group of us, Ann had us all line up and follow her around the garden paths while telling us all about their amazing variety of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, fruit trees and vegetables. She offered many good hints on how to spray for conditions and as well, control weeds. Our final garden for the day was Waiongana Gardens off the Inglewood bypass going north. This 4 hectare garden bound by the Waiongana River has many varied spaces, a sunken garden, rose garden, redwoods, native river walk, log walls and a developing produce area to name but a few. The log walls, made of Lawsoniana trees grown on the property years ago for shelter, were truly amazing having been painstakingly stacked so very precisely by John. The mostly flat terrain enables a large variety of walking avenues and vista viewpoints. This garden is well known for its herbaceous peonies, some that were flowering during the festival – flowers as big as dinner plates! All agreed, this garden was an absolute delight! Well done, John and Diana and their helpers – their sales table drew a few more “just one more” purchases for our gardens. One thing that never ceases to amaze is that although we think there is no room in our gardens for anything more to be planted, we always seem to find room! Pots are a saviour – many purchases can be placed in pots and grown on until the right spot is found... Heads were counted again – we were so pleased no one had been lost although we did have to “toot the horn” to make our numbers balance, and then we made our way back to South Taranaki again. One last stop was at Abstract Signs Garden Art where we viewed stunning displays of weatherproof photos on corrugated iron. We have heard purchases have been made since this visit. After a last head count, our trusty driver “Don” took off towards the finish line with his by this time, weary team of travellers. During the day along the way, each traveller received a prize draw and then some lucky spot prizes were drawn out thanks to Nadine from Arabica Coffee Bar in Hawera and Claire from Main Street Café in Waverley. Special thanks for such a wonderful trip was also expressed to Markhams Waverley Limited, Forest Management (NZ) Ltd and PJ & DL Amon Contracting Limited for without their generous donations of sponsorship our costs could not have been kept to a minimum and the day would not have been as enjoyable. Our next meeting will be Tuesday 10th December (note this day “Tuesday” as it is not our usual meeting day). We intend meeting at 6 pm at the layby off Kohi Road where we will assemble and be given instructions to follow in convoy as we make our way to Sharon and Lou de Melo’s property on Okahutiria Road where they will entertain us for the evening for our annual Christmas Pot Luck tea. Ladies and Gentlemen should bring $2, a plate of finger food, a gift of no more than $5 to add to our Santa sack and ideas of what we can do in the New Year for Club nights. This is a place where if you want to walk around the property you will need your “hiking boots” or suitable footwear. If we do not see you that day, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. As there are so many new faces in our towns, if you have any questions prior to the date or want a ride to our next visit (we do car pool at no cost) do not be afraid to call: Waverley: Margaret Prince (06) 346 6008 or Cheryl Rook on (06) 346 7070 Patea: Susan Gunn on 06 273 8135

Waverley Primary School

Exciting things have been happening at Waverley Primary School:Kowhai and Tawa Hub. Recently, we had our school Pet Day. During the morning students created their amazing indoor exhibits which were later judged by some wonderful volunteers. While the exhibits were being judged, our students participated in some fun tabloid sports. In house teams, students worked to win relays, gumboot throwing, tug of war and egg and spoon races. Finally the day ended with the Pet Parade where we had dogs, cats, lambs, goats and even a turtle. Students had a fantastic time and there were many certificates handed out.

Our recent Home and School Partnership meetings highlighted the importance of a strong and supportive whanau for our community of learners. Here is a letter written by Nevaeh Abraham-Pullen to her Nan, expressing her aroha. Dear Nan, Thank you for being the best nan I could ever ask for. You are always there when I need support for something and you are the best cook I know. You always make me laugh and smile when I’m around you and you are so caring and loving to other people. I love you, you are very creative and smart.

Maxwell & Districts Kindergarten

Many of our Kindergarten community took the opportunity to spend some time at Waverley’s annual A&P show this week. It was a beautiful sunny day and so many gathered to be part of this annual event. Maxwell and Districts Kindergarten had a area to display our children’s artwork that they had been busy creating lately, providing us an opportunity to share our creativity with the extended community. With our number of children low for that day at Kindergarten, due mostly because of attending the show, I was able to come along and sell some tickets for our grocery and goodies raffle fundraiser we had at our Kindergarten and see this special event take place. All our tickets were sold and the winner was drawn on Friday 22/11. Congratulations to John Mitchell of Waverley! We hope you enjoy your hamper. Thank you to all those who brought a ticket and our families who donated, we managed to raise $300 which will be gratefully spent hiring a bus to take all our children for our annual trip into Whanganui in December . This year we will be visiting the fire station as an extension of the children’s interest in fire and trucks and Marie McFarland Kindergarten for a visit with their children and teachers. Kia Ora and from all of us here at Maxwell and Districts Kindergarten! We hope you all enjoy the upcoming Christmas and New Year with your family and friends. Take care. Arohanui, Michaela, Katherine and Annie

Patea Bowling Club The Patea Bowling Club’s bowls tournament on the 29th of October was well attended, with 10 teams entered. This is one of 3 tournaments this season. We would like to thank Hurley’s Butchery for sponsoring the meat pack prizes. The next tournament is January 14th 2020. We had excellent comments from out of town players for our hospitality and condition of the Green. Big thanks to Clive Phillips, our Greenkeeper. The Club is going well, and the Green is getting plenty of use. Membership stands at over 70 members; new members are welcome.

Vandalism

Residents usually take pride in their town, so it was a great disappointment to the Carlyle Women’s Institute Members to find out that overnight 3-4 November someone had vandalised their seat outside the Patea Old Folks Hall. The seat is widely used by locals, as well as people travelling through our town. For two days prior to the vandalism, one of our members spent a considerable amount of time cleaning and painting a preservative on the seat. It was like a kick in the guts to find someone had hacked a piece of wood out of the front, very visible for all to see. To the person who did the damage, shame on you. If you need to use your so-called skills, take yourself to the beach where there is plenty of driftwood in the sand. Please note, the Police have been informed.

What’s Been Happening at St Joseph’s Patea... Hākinakina / Sport Touch Rugby Our tamariki combined with Patea Area School in the varying age groups and have had a successful season in the Hāwera Touch Rugby Competition. We had representatives in both the Year 3 & 4 team and Year 5 & 6 team. Our teams have had a great season and the Year 3 & 4 team have had a particularly good one winning a lot of their games. Awesome to see them getting involved in sport and attending training. A big mihi to Whaea Te Atawhai and Matua Brian for your help with this and all the parent support throughout the season. Athletics Taranaki Catholic Schools Athletics 2019 Nga mihi to all the Catholic schools that participated in the Athletics. 1345 participated! A first for me as Principal the last time I had attended was as a student. So proud of our tamariki that participated today. Awesome experience and very well organised. Thank you to St Patrick's School Inglewood. We all had a great day! Thankyou Matua Tama, Whaea Brianne, Mrs Ranson, Whaea Keri for your tautoko today. It was a privilege watching our tamariki participate and enjoy their day.

Kaupapa We have had a very busy term and have had a lot of kaupapa going on this term. Some of the events and mahi we have been up to since the last issue include but is not limited to what follows… Enviroschools This term our key focus has been “Living Landscapes”, with a particular focus on planting and gardening. We have been learning what this is about and where our kai comes from. There has been a lot of discussion about types of fruit and vegetables. The tamariki have been learning a lot and we have also had some assistance from our Enviroschools Facilitator Whaea Esther. The tamariki have started a new garden and repotted seedlings they have been growing also. The garden is thriving and the tamariki have shown great enthusiasm, getting in and weeding, digging, preparing the ground for planting.

Kapahaka Our weekly sessions with Matua Mike continue and the tamariki have been involved in several performances this year. They have participated at Tātarakihi Primary Schools Cultural Festival and recently at the Ramanui Kapahaka Festival in Hawera. They are learning new waiata and going from strength to strength. Ka rawe tamariki ma. Arts & Crafts The tamariki have been doing some fantastic rock painting with Whaea Jemaima and their skills have definitely improved. They are getting very creative and extending their creative skills on a weekly basis.

Open Forum: -Gillian Rio and Melva Tucker from The Paepae committee spoke to their application to the Community Board for funding assistance for the Paepae this coming Waitangi Day. They have several new members on the committee and are continuing the good work they do to organize this important event, we are so pleased to be able to support them. -Tina from Pātea Kindergarten spoke on their application for funding assistance for the Patea Kindy renovation. Their building is fairly unchanged from its original beginnings in 1968, and they have worked hard for the last 10 years to get this project off the ground. -Allan Caple from Pātea Community Patrol gave us an update of the feel of the town at the moment/ He said it’s been pleasantly quiet the nights they’ve been on patrol, apart from roaming dogs. The local postie has been given a go-pro for recording such issues. Locals that are worried by roaming dogs need to take a photo of it on their phone then log a call on the Council 0800 number: 0800111323. Neglected Horse’s grazing on empty sections in Waverley township are also a concern of residents. The Council and SPCA have been notified but there is little they can do as they look healthy due to residents bringing them water and feed. - The new road from Nukumaru to Waiinu Beach is progressing, but no start date can yet be given. -Rob read out a letter from Mark Scott, owner of the former ‘Time to Eat’ business in Patea. Luther Ashford has painted a ‘marine theme’ mural on one wall of his building and he would like assistance from the Council to continue the mural to the front. This involves a tin fence being built. Rob also updated us on the trees that were felled on the River walkway. The Lions club with cut them up for firewood over the summer. -Claire and Janine will be at the Waverley Show with Marion from STDC Road Safe with a climbing wall and a display on vehicle/road safety. She also updated us on the mural that will go on the railbridge at Hawera, it will be done by the same man that did the Hawera RSA mural. -Phil congratulated the Community Development team for running the very popular ‘Elektra light Festival’ on Friday 8 November. He also answered our concerns about still having

no policeman assigned to Patea. Phil and Waid meet with Senior Sergeant Kyle Davie on a monthly basis and will continue to ask him this question. - The Libraries are getting the children’s summer reading program ready and expect good numbers of children to enroll again. -Jo Peacock pointed out that there is a shortage of rental housing for older people (often living on their own) in the Waverley and Patea area. This was discussed and all agreed it is an issue in our district. Full minutes of this and all Council meetings can be found on the South Taranaki District Council Website, under the heading ‘Council’ then go to ‘Meetings’ or view them at Pātea or Waverley LibraryPlus. SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE

PRINCIPAL'S ADDRESS

Kia ora, Welcome to the business end of the year! Many of our seniors are currently on Exam leave, while others have chosen to remain at school to finish off their NCEA credits. I have been so impressed by the diligence many have shown in the last couple of weeks as they seek to reach their own personal academic excellence. In the rest of the school, students have been busy getting ready for our first ever Market Day, which is being held on the 27th of November. I have met with several groups of students this week as they submit their market day proposals, which had to include costings, a budget and profit margins! This should be a great day for our students, so bring your wallets and get ready to have a good feed, fill your Christmas stocking and support our wonderful students. This term we have also seen a group of 9 year 10s travel around the top of the North Island on the Spirit of New Zealand. The 9 students along with Mr Johnson and three other schools spent 8 nights aboard the ship. Students learnt a whole lot of sailing skills, a whole lot of leadership skills and a whole lot about themselves. Patea Area School would very much like to thank the Spirit of Adventure Trust and the Ministry of Culture and Heritage who fully funded the trip for our students. Many of our students are looking forward to week 8 activity week. I know the year 1-6s are very excited about the overnight school sleepover. I had one young man who high fived me and thanked me for the camp. As cool as that was, I cannot take the credit for the camps. The great team in the junior school have been working hard to come up with an exciting programme for their students. The year 7 and 8s are planning a camp to the beach. To help fundraise for this they held a very successful Halloween disco. Not only did the students have a good time on the night, many helped decorate and plan the event. This year we are sending a touch team to the Nationals in December. We were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Pelorous Trust which will help make this trip a reality. As always, Patea Area School will represent the school and town with pride and mana. Also coming up in week 8 will be our end of year prize giving. This year we have decided to celebrate the whole school’s success at once. We believe every student, no matter their year level, deserves to be celebrated equally. Prize giving starts at 11am on the 6th of December. We warmly invite whanau to join us in acknowledging the great learning our students have done this year. Finally, it is with a sad heart that we farewell another valued member of our staff, Airana Ngarewa, who is a key part of administration team and will be leaving us this month to start his Master’s Degree at the University of Auckland. Airana’s ability in the office, along with his masterful ninja skills, will be sorely missed. Nga mihi James Davidson

Congratulations to Lani Hurley for making the Taranaki U12 South Cricket Team

Nine of our students have been fortunate enough to experience sailing on the high seas with three other schools, Trident College from Whakatane, Wesley College, Auckland, and Amuri Area School from North Canterbury. Friendships were quickly made all round. During the week of 21 – 26 October our students sailed from Whitianga around to Auckland, onboard the Spirit of New Zealand which was part of a flotilla of waka hourua, heritage tall ships, including a replica of Captain Cook’s Endeavour. The Tuia 250 Voyage highlights both Pacific and European voyaging and is the national commemoration for 2019 that acknowledges the first onshore encounters between Maori and Pakeha 250 years ago. The trip included a visit and welcome onto the Umupuia Marae in the Hauraki Gulf, here all the waka and tall ships met together and exchanged gifts with local iwi. Our students had the opportunity to learn and practice different skills to do with sailing – knot tying competition, raising and lowering sails, raft paddling and racing, completing a watch shift (2 hours) at night where they had to watch over the ships instruments and carry out Captain’s orders to keep everybody safe at night. Mornings all started at 06.30hrs, a jump off the boat into the water, a quick warm shower to remove salt and then to breakfast. After this it was to work stations, where different schools had different tasks to complete, from scrubbing the whole deck, vegetable prep, cleaning of their sleeping quarters and toilet areas. There were lessons in map reading, sail setting, weather reading and 8am colours. Lights were out at 21.30 each night after evenings activities. On the Thursday there was a beach clean-up and during break from clean-up students entertained themselves in several ways. Lunch was brought ashore by the Spirit’s RIB boat. After lunch it was games and races run by the crew. Friday was the highlight of the trip, where the boat was dressed up (sails wrapped into covers) for the motor past the end of the Queen’s Wharf along with other vessels in the flotilla. The students on board had been warned that there would be a haka from the end of the wharf, so for two hours the students practised waiata and haka. On positioning ourselves at the end of the wharf, there was no haka group present. The students performed their haka regardless. The result of this was that it brought the other group out from the back of the crowds that had formed to see the boats pass. At the end of the voyage, Saturday 26, students had certificates presented to them and then the four schools performed a haka as a thank you to the crew. A BIG thank you must go to the Police Bluelight organisation for funding this magnificent trip for our students.

Patea Historical Society unveil plaque to mark the site of the Methodist Mission Station On Friday 25 October we unveiled a plaque to mark the site of the Wesleyan Methodist Mission Station. This is the 3rd plaque that Patea Historical Society have installed to mark an important historical location in our district. The Great Great Granddaughter of Thomas Farenden Skinner; Trish Rossiter from Waikanae and her husband Martin came to Patea especially for this event. The Reverend Mele Prescott lead the service and we had representatives from the other Churches in Patea. Historian Arthur Fryer came down from Hawera for the service. It was followed by a shared lunch in Brian Headley’s lovely garden. In January 1848 (171 years ago this year) the unmarried, 27-year-old, Thomas Skinner arrived in Patea to replace William & Ann Hough. Very few Europeans were in the area in these early days. Thomas was apparently one of the Mission’s most fluent speakers of the Maori language and was very comfortable with the culture. Four years earlier in 1844 William Hough had been appointed the first European Missionary stationed at Patea. Arthur Fryer writes in ‘Missionary Wives’ that the Mission Station was situated on the Whenuakura side of the Patea River in the flat area below the cliffs, known at Raumano. But it is also thought they may have lived above the cliffs at Wai o turi with local Māori. William lived on this exposed point in a raupo hut with his wife Ann & 6 young children for almost 4 years, until their two youngest sons died of whooping cough on the same day on 27 September 1847. After this event the Patea Mission Station relocated to higher ground on the other side of the river, on what is now the site of Brian Headley’s house at 32 Norfolk St. Trish is in the process of writing a book about this fascinating man in her family’s history. Thomas went on to marry Hannah Chiffinch Taylor after he left Patea. Trish has their marriage certificate dated 1851. They were married by William Woon at Heretoa. Their final posting was to a Mission Boarding School in Hokianga. Thomas’s health had been deteriorating for some time and he died of ‘heart disease’ in 1866 at the age of 45, leaving a young wife and 7 children. Trish lifted the velvet curtain from the plaque and gave a talk on the story of her Gt Gt Grandfather, expressing gratitude to Brian for allowing the plaque to be fitted to his roadside fence. The other two plaques that Patea Historical Society have installed are for Nukumai Park on Gloucester St, Patea and for the Wilford Rd Creamery, Hurleyville. We intend to mark some historic sites at Opaku next year.

Fifteen locals gathered to mark the occasion of unveiling of the Patea Methodist Mission Station. Below, left: Martin & Trish Rossiter with Rev Mele Prescott in front of the plaque Below, right: Trish Rossiter and Arthur Fryer with some daffodils from the Heretoa Mission Station

Whenuakura School - ‘Growing Personal Excellence’ The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Eleanor Roosevelt It’s a good time to reflect on the quote above because teachers and students have been working hard to assess learning the last few weeks. What are our dreams when leaving school one day? What do I need to learn now, to help me get there? This is especially poignant for our year six students who are leaving us at the end of the year. The staff and students wish you all the best on the rest of your schooling journey and encourage you to return to Whenuakura School to visit whenever you can! A special thank you also to the families who leave us at the end of the year for your involvement at Whenuakura School. On another “note” there has been music and dance routines coming out of all the classrooms as we prepared for our Inquiry Showcase ‘The Amazing Race’. This showcase was a culmination of our inquiry ‘Around the World - Explore, Dream, Discover’. Thank all of you who helped out and also to those of you who came to watch and Te Oranga for the sound. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did putting it together and we are extremely proud of our talented learners. Our learners had another opportunity to perform on stage at the Ramanui Kapa Haka Festival under the tutoring of Matua Mike. Congratulations on representing your whanau and our school with pride. It’s a busy end to the term with our Year 5/6 learners travelling to Hamilton for camp, our junior school Big Days Out, Year 6 Leavers Dinner and prize giving at 12am on Thursday 12th December. We are also currently taking enrolments for 2020, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like more information about our high quality learning programmes and engaging curriculum. Have a fantastic festive season everyone! SPORTING SUCCESS Our school pool is up and running for the summer season and we are fortunate to not only have this available for swimming lessons, but to also have available for our learners during lunch breaks as the weather warms up. Thank you Lani Phillips for maintaining this for us. Touch season has now concluded for the Hawera Module. This year was the first time we have entered three teams and it was excellent to see all teams showing top sportsmanship and enjoying themselves. It would not be possible without all of our wonderful parents who help out with transport, refereeing and coaching every week. A special thank you to our coaches Conna Smith, Paul Mitchell & Lani Phillips. Cluster athletics was a fantastic way to demonstrate that we aim for excellence in everything that we do and it is always good to see our friends from the other schools.
