Domestic violence advocates across the country acknowledge that a spike in domestic violence incidents is a likely side effect of COVID-19. Help with safety planning and emergency shelter remains just a phone call away through the Harbor House hotline. The hotline is staffed 24/7. Southeast Kansas Services Helps with Homelessness Prevention Imagine your community implementing a “Stay at Home” order and you don’t have a home. That’s the case for more than 600 individuals living in Crawford County, including 150 children. Catholic Charities’ Southeast Kansas Services ministry focuses on household stabilization through rent and utility emergency assistance, resource navigation for mainstream benefits and financial literacy so that those on the brink of homelessness can stay in their home. In addition, Catholic Charities serves homeless veterans and their families, and those overcoming domestic violence in an 11-county area of southeast Kansas through our Supportive Services for Veteran Families and SAFE Project ministries. All three ministries are currently providing outreach services via telephone and online. Cruise Night Sets Sail! Thanks to all of those who attended and sponsored Cruise Night 2020! More than 500 people joined us Feb. 23 to “Warm the Night Under the Northern Lights” on our Nordic-inspired fantasy cruise. Contributions collected that evening support the operations of St. Anthony Family Shelter and Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter.
