A Message from the Regional Director

I am excited to share the inspiring work of Catholic Charities through our quarterly newsletter, Vineyard of Hope. I invite you to read about the transformative impact of our volunteers and life-affirming programs.

Catholic Charities is not just an organization but a beacon of hope for thousands of vulnerable individuals, children, and families in the Charlotte region. I am constantly reminded of the impact of our work when I hear the powerful stories of those who have triumphed over adversity, like those who shared their experiences at our annual fundraiser, the Vineyard of Hope. These stories are a testament to the compassionate care our Catholic Charities staff gave and the generosity of people like you who support our work.

We sincerely appreciate your dedication to advancing our mission. Each act of kindness, whether by donating your time or treasure, represents a seed planted in our vineyard of hope.

Together, we are like branches of a vine, nourished by God’s love and called to bear fruit through our acts of charity and compassion toward our neighbors.

Thank you for being a vital part of our Catholic Charities community. Let us continue our journey together and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we are blessed to serve.

With hope and gratitude,

Catholic Charities Honors Dedicated Volunteers

Catholic Charities gathered on April 25 to honor dedicated volunteers who embody the spirit of service and compassion.

Named after the symbolic notion of charity, the Fruit of the Vine Award recognizes those whose impactful contributions nourish and sustain Catholic Charities’ life-affirming programs and services. This year, the Refugee Mentoring Ministry from Saint Peter’s Catholic Church was honored for its extraordinary assistance to newly arrived refugees in our community. Led by Martha Schmitt, this team of over 50 volunteers exemplifies the corporal works of mercy, enhancing the lives of those navigating the challenges of resettlement.

Peter Fernandez received the Volunteer of the Year award for his unwavering commitment and compassionate service to Catholic Charities. Peter dedicates himself to ensuring the smooth operation of our weekly food distribution and provides invaluable interpretation services for Spanish-speaking participants. His role as a mentor in our Refugee Resettlement program highlights his deep commitment to welcoming and empowering newcomers to our community.

Our volunteers are the backbone of our mission, and we are profoundly grateful for their invaluable contributions. As we celebrate 75 years of service, we are reminded that their selflessness allows us to cultivate a Vineyard of Hope for all those in need.

The love of Christ impels us (II Cor. 5:14) to serve our neighbors in need (Mt. 25:31-46)–we cannot do otherwise (Deus Caritas Est, no. 25).

With deepest gratitude
