Cade and I always wanted a destination wedding (beach location). We wanted to be able to spend a few days celebrating with friends and family because the big day is over so quickly and some of the best weddings we had ever been to were 'location weddings'. We saw a picture of 'little cove' on-line and it looked perfect, so we decided to travel up for a weekend to see if it ticked all the boxes and it truely blew us away, we fell in love with Port Douglas straight away!!!

THE
ELOPEMENT OPTION run away together?
elope run away secretly in order to get married. synonyms: run away to marry, run off/away together, slip away, sneak off, steal away; run off/away with a lover Whilst an elopement may by definition be a secret affair, in a modern sense it is often any wedding with just the two of you. A beach, perhaps at sunrise. Some words only for each other. No distractions, no hassles. Port Douglas Elopements looks after anyone interested in a simple low fuss wedding, even if your elopement gets 'crashed' by a few and turns into a small wedding celebration. If its easy you want, look no further.

Wedding planner Bec McLean How long have you been planning Weddings and Events? I started Dragonfly Weddings & Events two and a half years ago, but have been organising weddings in Port Douglas since 2011. My background in events goes back to the mid 2000's when we lived in Darwin. What are your favourite venues to work at in Port Douglas? The benefit of having a wedding in Port Douglas is that we have such a variety of amazing venues to suit all tastes and budgets. We really are spoilt for choice here with private houses, rainforest, beach and park settings along with beautiful historic buildings, world class resorts and restaurants. What I love is that all of these venues can be styled differently to match the couple's ideas and theme. Is there anything that people disregard when planning a Port Douglas Wedding? What I find is that some couples have not researched the difference in seasons from their hometown to up here in Far North Queensland - our peak season generally falls in everyone else's "off season". The wedding season here generally runs from May to October, however there are weddings here all year round. What’s your favourite wedding favour you have seen this year? I recently had gorgeous copper mugs that were used on the tables as water glasses - the colour really popped with the beautiful florals on the tables. The bride and groom also gave matching copper shot glasses to do a very special family toast during speeches honouring both fathers who had passed. How can I avoid being overwhelmed when planning a destination wedding? Hire a wedding planner - that is my job, to reduce stress in both the lead up and on the day, working in the background to ensure all goes smoothly. In the research stage I can eliminate the leg work and offer both local knowledge and qualified advice to make the right decisions for each individual couple. My mother in law will try and run the whole show, any suggestions? This can be very common and not always restricted to the mother in law!! I like to organise little jobs that keep them occupied and feeling included in the entire process to reduce stress loads on all involved.
