LIVE LIKE A local

Cathedral boarders venture beyond our school gates, try new things, meet different people, see different environments, develop independence, and learn and grow from life’s experiences. So whether it be participating in a club sport or playing for a representative team, attending a Cowboys game, joining the cadets or holding down a part-time job; our boarders are supported to pursue their interests.

Townsville offers so many opportunities for our youth to engage, learn and grow into well-rounded adults. The city is ideally situated 45 minutes from Australia’s pristine reef, rainforest and rural landscapes and hosts world-class events and attractions.

Popular boarding activities include:

Boarding activities are scheduled weekly. Many activities, events and experiences are free to attend. Boarders are also advised to have pocket money for costs such as entry tickets or game fees. The School transports boarders free of charge to scheduled boarding events and activities, and outside school activities within our local area. The School has identified a wide variety of clubs, associations and service providers within our local area, and has made arrangements with many to provide additional benefits for Cathedral students. For out of the usual activities, our staff assist families to organise suitable transportation including carpooling with a teammate and paid transport options.

FROM HOME HOME

The Cathedral School offers modern and homely boarding facilities with separate dormitories for girls and boys. The picturesque school grounds centre on a natural lagoon home to a variety of birdlife. The grounds are adorned by lush gardens and 160 year old towering raintrees. Together with our extensive sporting facilities The Cathedral School offers our boarders opportunity to play and unwind in serene, spacious and safe surrounds.

In the girls dormitory, students are accommodated across three boarding “wings” including Sister Chaseley (Years 7 & 8 in quad share) Kardinia (Years 8 & 9 in quad or

dual share) and Sister Frances (Years 10, 11 & 12 in single rooms) adjoining a beautiful and secured courtyard garden. Boys are accommodated in the Akins Boarding House with an adjacent basketball hoop and central games room including a dartboard, pool table and table tennis. Students in Years 7, 8 & 9 share in a quad configuration that is welldesigned to provide a balance of privacy and visibility. From Year 10, boys are accommodated in dual bedrooms.
