Auto World concocts a powerful blend of style and performance.

The 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula was a unique offering in the Firebird lineup filling the demand for a model between the base Firebird and the T/A. The Formula came standard with a Pontiac 301 V8 engine, but could also be upgraded to the 350. The most desirable option, however, was the 400ci Pontiac V8, also used in the T/A and delivering up to 220hp. The Formula also had a distinctive look, featuring a menacing dual-scoop hood and Formula graphics package. The Formula was rare and underrated, with only about 1000 cars produced with the 400 engine and four-speed manual in 1977.

This Auto World 1:18 scale replica features a newly-tooled hood, Gloss White paint with black and blue accents, and a stunning red interior, creating a truly winning Formula!

Porsche TURBO CUP 944

WWhile the fans boys are lost in a world of 911’s Porsche purists and enthusiasts of the highest level know of many ‘other’ Porsches that thrilled and excited the senses while defying physics with German loopholes. One such car was the PORSCHE 944 TURBO. It was one of those creations that were solid in every way and then the creating team said it could be much better if it went faster and slapped a TURBO onto it.

The result was entire racing series that spawned an era of what is known as a TURBO Cup car which are highly sort after to this day. The 944 Turbo Cup was an AM Driver series that saw success not only in Europe but also spread its wings across the ocean to Canada.

This particular model, however, took part in the European TURBO CUP and was raced with this livery in 1987 as one of the sponsors fielded cars. What’s interesting about this car is that the livery was created by the famous race livery artist Robert Powell, who was responsible for a lot of iconic Porsche Liveries over the decades, the most famous being Rothmans and SHELL.

One of the biggest things that we love about this model is the detail in replicating the famous ‘telephone dial’ rims that was synonymous with the flat nosed 944 TURBO specially the fact that many of the cup versions that raced had it in white. Props for authenticity.

Do we recommend Sparky and Toyeast’s 1/64 scale version. A resounding yes from the office. This seems like one of those very very slipper slopes that this pair has started us on but the quality in terms of detail is undeniable and your collection is going to definitely gain value with this brilliant, limited edition.

SPARKY
9 6 2 LONG LIVE THE DIECASTING COUCH ONE64

Double trouble in a single pack and limited to just 2000 numbers globally the iteration from Sparky and Toyeast brings you a pair of one of Porsche’s greatest racers. These two cars even after 10 years went out with a swan song by taking 1st and 3rd at the 1994 LeMans. This is no easy feat, specially for a car that is a decade old competing against a whole host of Japanese upstarts hungry for a LeMans victory. But in the hands of some of the best drivers of the time, these two cars raced past the finish line, into the motorsport history books and now onto your 1/64 scale collection shelves at home.

We are very pleased to announce to prospective buyers that the quality of workmanship is very good and the level of detail encapsulates the real car perfectly with an eye for detail that is synonymous with Sparky Models. The parent company to Sparky which is Spark Models, hold key motorsport licenses and makes them one of the leaders in motorsport scale models who wouldn’t’ want to ruin their reputation. So, you can expect nothing but the best when you slide these models out from the box specially in the QC department.

BOTH CARS ARE FANTASTIC PIECES AND FOR TRIVIA SAKE IT WAS #36 THAT CROSSED THE FINISH LINE FIRST AND #35 CAME IN 3RD SPLIT BY A TOYOTA 94C-V.

AS A 1/64 SCALE COLLECTOR THE HIGH-END DETAILS WILL IMPRESS YOU. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN COLLECTING FOR A WHILE WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. FOR THE NEW COLLECTORS WHO ARE HESITANT ON SPLITTING THE BUDGET TO SWING SPARKY’S WAY THE PRO’S DEFINITELY WIN. THIS SET WILL MAKE YOUR PORSCHE COLLECTION LOOK ECLECTIC AND MAKE YOU A COLLECTOR WHO KNOWS THEIR STUFF.

Ok so we sneaked in a ‘plain body’…. But let’s not start the body shaming yet! This is POP Race’s first SUV to market and thank god they haven’t used an URUS would have been nice to have a Purosange but hey, they did and AWESOME Aston Martin DBX and we did choose it because as it is used to transport high end groceries from Waitrose off Oxford High Street it is also used to reign in the heavy feet of FORMULA 1 drivers when there is trouble on the track. We always have a plan.

On to the model and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that POP RACE has leaped and bounded into the open arms of collectors around the world with their super detail and no complaints regarding QC which has been a big issue that hound many brands. If you have any, please let us know.

ONE64
DIECASTING COUCH

Till then we marvel at the details and gorgeous Aston Martin British Racing Green paint with a modern metallic twist. Yellow line highlights and carbon fibre trim all there in magical detail. The only problem we have with this model is the same problem Aston Martin had with FORD. Every time you look at an Aston Martin you half expect to see EcoBoost on the side and that iconic blue FORD badge on the front grille which is really annoying when all you want is an Aston Martin.

POPRACE

assault ASPHALT

LET’S OPEN UP SOME TINS OF SPEED MAKE AN ALL ASSAULT ON THE STREETS OF COLLECTORS EVERYWHERE WITH THESE YEAR’S RELEASE OF DELUXE RACE CARS FROM MAJORETTE. MAJORETTE IS AIMING FOR THE COLLECTOR MARKET AND WITH 60YEARS BEHIND THE BRAND THEY ARE STARTING TO TAKE SHOTS WITH SOME BRILLIANT RELEASES WHICH ARE STARTING TO SEE BIGGER DEMAND ACROSS THE GLOBE.

METTALIC REDSKYLINE R35

This year Majorette celebrates its longterm partners and has a whole slew of familiar castings up for grabs. Great news for new collectors and the variation lovers. A familiar R35 casting makes an appearance donning Majorette’s metallic paint finish in a light shade of Red with a lighter shade of what can be best described as ‘Tron’ lines presenting a design that subtly outlines the body lines of the GT-R.

The evolution of the casting has come a long way and is one of the few Majorette castings that feature two opening parts. In this case the doors and the hood as opposed to the usual one. A simple fine tip Sharpie might make quick customizing work of the wheels to give it a little depth between the outer rim and the brake disc.

THIS BEING A DELUXE MODEL, COMES WITH RUBBER WHEELS AS WELL AND AS WE MENTIONED EARLIER ALL THE CARS IN THIS SERIES COMES WITH THEIR PERSONAL STORAGE TINS. PARKING SORTED.

MATTE FINISH BUGATTI PUR SPORT

Hyper cars from Majorette round up our Asphalt Attack selection and what of brilliant Matte finished cars we have. The ‘Rose Bronze’ Bugatti has a brilliant set of wheels and if we had our way those wheels would be on a lot of Majorettes releases and the Matte Silver version looks super trim and neat in silver and black strip, almost like its ready for a black-tie event.

Even though these are mass produced models it is always amazing how they maintain a high level of detail while being in the same sort of ballpark as other brands price wise. And, coupled with the cool storage tins that accompany them we say, expand the collection and imbibe in some Majorette.

CHROME BLUE PORSCHE

TAYCAN

Hotter than a Cayanne Pepper, this number from Majorette is the quintessential Asphalt Attack machine. Built for the city roads, built to carry people, and built to go very fast easily. We would say this is a sleeper but not with that extreme paint job of Chrome blue and yellow. If you like shiny cars this is a great example of Majorette’s ability to make nice shiny cars without ironing out your wallet flat.

IF YOU DO PICK THIS CAR UP AND DO A CUSTOMIZATION ON IT, PLEASE SEND US PHOTOGRAPHS TO HELLO@CASTHEADSMAGAZINE.COM

AUDI TRON E

This one is a bit of a conundrum because the casting is brilliant but for us the design was a little overwhelming, however this is a subjective opinion and there are many who feel the design looks awesome. We think this is ripe for customizers. That fastback shape along with the body trim and the usual Majorette premiums like plastic lensed lights, rubber wheels and faux suspension gives you a head start fresh full of ideas.

The ‘E-Tron’ design is an AUDI branding tactic to make their electric line seem more futuristic than they need to. It is very rare to see an AUDI that needs convincing of its looks in recent times, but the E-Tron design is very cool too unfortunately it seems to be best suited for larger scale and 1:1 sized model’s whereas on 1/64 it looks like the tampo has not been applied properly. For those of you who feel that way I can assure you after close examination of the original design it really boils down to scale reproduction.

In the history of Formula One, some cars stand out not just for their performance, but for their bold design. One such vehicle that left a lasting impression on the sport is the Tyrrell P34, affectionately called the "six-wheeler." The 1976 Swedish Grand Prix was a pivotal moment for this iconic car, as it showcased its potential and forever changed how people viewed Formula One cars.

MINIGT

DDESIGNED BY DEREK GARDNER AND INTRODUCED IN THE 1976 SEASON, THE TYRRELL P34 WAS A RADICAL DEPARTURE FROM THE NORM. WITH ITS UNIQUE SIXWHEEL CONFIGURATION - FOUR SMALLER WHEELS IN THE FRONT AND TWO LARGER ONES IN THE REAR - THE CAR PROMISED ENHANCED AERODYNAMICS AND INCREASED GRIP, ESPECIALLY WHEN CORNERING.

At Sweden's Grand Prix, the Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp witnessed the Tyrrell P34 make a lasting impression. Driven by Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler, this car showcased remarkable performance, surprising fans and competitors with its prowess.

Practice sessions revealed the P34's impressive speed and agility. It set competitive lap times, defying initial doubts from rivals. Qualifying saw the car secure a strong grid position, continuing to impress.

Though a flat tire hit Scheckter during the race, the Tyrrell P34 demonstrated its capabilities. It completed fourth, barely missing the winner's stand. This showcased the P34 as a car demands respect. Formula One fans and competitors admired its performance at Sweden's Grand Prix.

The 1976 Swedish Grand Prix marked a milestone. It highlighted the Tyrrell P34's ingenuity and originality. Six wheels were short-lived, but the car's legacy remains. It symbolizes Formula One's endless quest for superiority through innovation.

MINIGT had made this model in a larger scale for TSM sometime ago. And some of us knew that there would be many collectors (of 1:64) that would love to have it in their collections. The first release was a single car (#488) that took part in the 1976 Spanish GP. It had the engine cover with the air inatke. These latest releases #583 (Jody Schekter, winner) and #584 (Patrick Depailler, P2) feature driver figures and bare engines. We hope to see more of these from the 1976 and 1977 seasons.

It reminded people why motorsport fans worldwide love it. The event happened on Guia Circuit's difficult track in Macau, China. It featured thrilling races, daring overtakes, and shocking moments. Audiences were captivated by the exciting action.

From November 17 to 20, engines roared through Macau's streets. Top drivers and teams from everywhere competed for glory. Macau's Grand Prix has a challenging layout with unforgiving walls. Only the bravest, most skilled racers succeed there. It separates champions from alsorans.

This track is known for its twists and turns so requires a highvisibility Safety Car. This is a perfect setting for the Lamboghini Urus. Done in monochromatic colors that reflects the Macau GP logo, the model also has tricolor racing stripes that runs from the front to the back. Can only be seen when takes out of the box or on the US blister packs.

Brands these days are on the limit when it comes to searching for new markets or consumers to rake in the bucks and hold market share. RED BULL understands the power of collaboration and is constantly looking for new avenues to make connections. One example is converting their secondary Formula 1 team ‘Toro Rosso’ into Formula 1 Team / Fashion Label called ‘Alpha Tauri’. More inclined to have label worthy products like Bags from the House of Alpha Tauri, I half expect an ailing Formula 1 team to be taken over by Versace or Gucci,

HAAS for Versace ' ' imagine

DIECASTING COUCH ONE64

As strange as it sounds Formula 1 openly flirts with fashion and of course Formula 1 fan boys hardly notice this incursion because we are too busy screaming for the current champion to be toppled. MINI GT have managed to pull some Formula 1 strings and so far, have been serving up some righteous Formula 1 not just from the past but also cars from the recent era as well. Like of course this team of Alpha Tauri’s sporting the hard compound tires that usually put the team on a one stop strategy or a two-stop strategy with a longer second stint. What’s quite dope about these 1/64 replicars is the fact that they carry the drivers as well with the little, tiny race helmets that look like little cake decorations you want to crunch on. And though there are many brands doing 1/64 F1 cars most of them have gone driverless which is a shame considering how much effort drivers put into their helmet design.

Other forms of detail are in the realm of being fine. Carbon fibre print is in high detail and applied in the right way as is the livery and even the rear light that flashes on and off during the actual race letting people know how they are charging theirs KERS looks more realistic.

DUBAI ROSSO DIECASTING COUCH

IS DUBAI ROSSO A FANCY WAY OF SAYING DESERT RED?

We don’t care. Why? Because it looks so amazing on Tarmac Work’s new tooling of the PAGANI IMOLA. The PAGANI IMOLA itself is a hard car to get in real life due to its incredibly tiny production run. But TARMAC Works has been delighting fans for the last few years with some pretty awesome PAGANI’s and this new tooling will make the richest man on the planet who missed the last PAGANI IMOLA cry.

OF COURSE, THE LONGTERM TW HATERS ARE GOING TO PIPE AND SAY,
“WHAT

ABOUT THE QC”?!?!?!?

Fact of the matter is, they are still buying Tarmac Works maybe in the hope that TW errors will one day become a thing and till then they have something to moan about. However, we are seeing less and less QC problems on the models we get and overall, the entire industry that has decided to take on the mainstream giants.

From exhaust tip to front splitter TW exceeds expectations with this beautiful colour and finish something that is worthy for a car of this pedigree and its quite apparent that TW puts a lot of effort in to bring the richness of the brand to life in their scale models. As always, we can’t to get our hands on more of Tarmac Works Pagani’s!

MODEL FOR 2023/2024 IS A CELEBRATION OF DUALITY

MERCEDES-AMG F1 W13 E PERFORMANCE | MERCEDES-AMG

HAMILTON & GEORGE RUSSELL | TARMAC WORKS 1:64 GLOBAL64

We are sure that you have seen the model so many times already across social media. While we had this for a while, we thought it needed to be in different showcase. What better than our issue celebrating most things racing.

Many collectors would have looked at the model and see that it wasn’t any livery they would’ve seen in the season. Because like most things when it comes to model cars, there IS a story behind it. It was supposed to be used in the Belgian Gran Prix but was shelved due to weight and time constraints.

The model is a celebration of duality. The first is one of the most iconic Mercedes-AMG models to put rubber to tarmac almost 55 years ago. The other of course is one of the most recognized F1 teams in the world. The model not only features paintwork/wheels from two eras, but also the numbers of the two current drivers that see action in the F1 cars.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE64

The first part of the car is in a red livery of the (in)famous MercedesBenz 300SEL 6.8 AMG known as the “Rote Sau” (or Red Sow in English). A purpose-built racing car that broke rules and records starting with the 1971 Spa 24 Hours. It had a short, but blazingly illustrious career till regulations forced it out of competition in 1972. Even the wheel is a 5-spoked nod to the wheels found on the original racing car.

The second part is of course the familiar silver, black, and green with the star pattern across found on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 cars. Driven by Sir Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, the cars had mixed results for the duo during the season.

The car features driver numbers on opposite sides, 44 for Hamilton and 63 for Russell. The display box is inside another larger box with the very nice Membership Cards (ours was Chassis #297 out of a possible 999). Overall it is a great model as a TWOC but may not be to everyone’s taste, but then you have to be different once in a while. It’s a model that has explored and then put the concept of duality into 1:64 scale.

No no one can blame Tarmac Works getting in on what has become the most entertaining motorsport in terms of commanding viewership, leading to the popularity of the sport and the demand for brands like TW to start adding F1 cars to their yearly line ups, stat! No there are more than collectors who want these prized machines on their shelves and of course owning the real thing will take an extraordinary amount of loose change. A cheaper option if you will, would be a 1/64 version from Tarmac Works who have brought many cars into play with stunning detail that we had people look at some our pictures and take a second to realise its not a real care its actually a Tarmac Works 1/64.

YELLOW CANARY

CCA has some interesting models and have been experimenting with the market by releasing a few test subjects that have customizing options, working with lights and sound but they have also been slowly releasing some standard issue diecast with pretty good detail. One of the more recent releases is this BMW M4 GT3 in Canary Yellow and its no bad as well as being a licensed model.

The details on this fit nicely in with brands like Auto World, Majorette and Hot wheels. The parent company MSZ has a great range of licenses that cover both road going cars as well as cars in Motorsport like DTM. This gives CCA the opportunity to add their own brand of cars to the market and make it a success with variations.

RWB ROTANA

The second RWB in AKIRA NAKAI – SANs personal collection get’s embodied in the shell of Maisto’s MM series and it isn’t the first time an RWB has been brought forth. This is actually the second casting to make its way on to the MM catalogue. But this isn’t just a colour variation. First of all, it’s one the RWB makers favourite RWB’s and second it has had a modification to the casting.

Not only are the nuances that make this car an RWB heavily highlighted by the designers of MM but this time round the enormous engine that propels ROTANA around the track is highlighted as well. Massive twin turbos and air filters on either side exposing the fattest rear tires you would ever see on a 1/64.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE64

IDLERS branded wheels wrapped around goldcoloured rims supporting the purple body known as ROTANA, the colour and name inspired by one of AKIRA-Sans earliest visit to the middle east. The RWB is always a great addition to the series giving it a break from the norm and adding some variety to the collection.

AUDI QUATTRO

Another model that has seen a second coming however with a slight change. The earlier Quattro releases was the S1 this is the second iteration of that model which is the S1 E2 version. Although the casting is built on the rally platform this looks much closer to the one that competed in PIKES PEAK. Another great choice from the design team to bring this into action instead of clipping their own wings and sticking to just releasing American cars.

It also highlights the fact (and we have said this before) that there are many other cars out there in the world that deserve the moniker ‘muscle car’ based purely on the fact that these were machines with garish power and unbridled engineering. Commandeered by people who removed fear from their vocabulary.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE64

In terms of casting, this is a solid piece with some great details, we love the light array on the front as well as the white rims and of course the huge rear wing with the Quattro branding underside. We also love the factory racing colours painted on the side and the entire car with its MM treatment looks like a proper rally machine.

We think: Muscle Machines should do more Group B rally cars.

The Heart X Art of Carl Bosman

SHUTTERCASTERS FEATURE

Photography is always subjective and the worth of a photographer is usually judged by the amount of love they receive for their work. For a scale model photographer in the last 10 years the Artscape has become phenomenally brutal. The sheer creative competition in scale model photography that has erupted is a scale that has gone beyond what anyone could have imagined and yet, it still remains a niche art. The community is also a humble one, more often than not letting their work speak for themselves. We love highlighting some of these talented individuals, whose work goes beyond into a realm or art. And I think the world of Diecast photography would join us in agreeing that one person who deserves highlight is Carl Bosman from SA.

Needless to say, his work is something that the internet looks forward to every single day eagerly awaiting to see what new imagination of speed from yesteryear will make an appearance on their feeds. From lighting to postproduction work displays a clear understanding of photography and motorsport from that era and it is pure art the way he composes his work combining all the principles of a great picture that speaks 1000 words, not all images do this, Carl Bosman’s does.

I take photographs to show off, I do. It’s what I do for a living. Carl does it for the love of sharing a passion for motorsport and model collecting. He does it to tell a story about the era, the golden days of the models he collects, its plain as day to see in his art. The angles, the closeups juxtaposed against backgrounds lit and shaded in the right tones that leaves the imagine open to any interpretation the viewer would like to have while giving them visual cues and direction in terms of understanding the time and space.

I would say like a conductor of an orchestra that brings all these parts into play to produce a symphony of one imagine that enthrals us wherever he posts.

KIDS PLAY WITH CCA

DIECASTING COUCH ONE40

Being a collector with children can be hard to balance. I know I get it. First, they are always trying to break into your collection, and you dread the day you leave the room keys out in the open with easy access to your precious collection. Or other adults tend to judge you for picking toys for yourself over your children which is crazy because with all the ambitious goals you have for them, they don’t have time for toys or play. Or even worse people take it upon themselves to satisfy your children’s gift receiving needs with terrible out of place toys like pink teddy bears and fake Hot Weeels.

CCA

A stand must be taken! Protection must be guaranteed!

DIECASTING COUCH ONE40

Diversion of the highest order.

Besides we’ve seen the MEME start them young, here’s your chance. CCA drops a pretty good McLaren P1 complete with GULF livery in 1/40 scale. In terms of detail, it hangs a little of centre to be a collector model. But it certainly has merits AND let’s not forget that the most collected diecast model brand collected in the world is essentially a toy. So, park the holier than attitude. Yes, it does have pull back feature which some will argue is the very essence of toy. But it is licensed both by GULF AND McLaren which is more than can be said for some of these supposedly ‘collector’ brands.

taken!
CCA

Already CCA stands with respect.

Personally, I feel something like this has a lot of potential. This could be a really good opportunity for a customizing gig no one really does customs on this scale and I’m pretty sure no one is going to mind if you pick up 10 of these for your customs. The other opportunity is to introduce you kids to the wonderful world of scale model collecting. You like GULF? Well, now you can share that passion with your spawn and introduce them to the world that is GULF Racing and the series of motorsport.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE40

Apart from the ‘pull-back’ function that gives this machine it’s speed, it also comes with opening parts as well as plastic lensed lights both in the front and the back which makes it quite detailed for a toy. For the hardcore GULF collectors, I think this is going to find a home within their collection without a doubt.

When it comes to satisfying hobbyists on a budget MCG is probably one of the best there is out there. And when it comes to Formula 1, they most certainly have the edge with scales starting from 1/43 up to 1/18 including a wonderfully new scale category added which is 1/24 + acrylic case (we will get to this later). This year they DO NOT COME UP SHORT at all dropping cars from 7 teams. Honestly if you are a FORMULA 1 fan in 2023 / 24 there has never been a better time to collect.

Strong design with UV printing on the sleeve is the first thing you see on the box at the store AND as you can see here it is one of those smart looking designs that will make you think twice about throwing these in the trash. For me personally it’s ‘get them out there’ for everyone to see, but once in a while the packaging looks good enough to collect and that’s when you need to start questioning yourself. But from a collector and display POV these sleeves look lovely.

The cars all come in acrylic display cases which is brilliant because dust is inescapable and if you were to create a completely dust free display room kudos to you for doing well in life. But for the plebs like me enclosed display solutions are pricey so if they come with the car flipping brilliant. One sad thing though and that is the boxes do not lock into place when stacked which is always great to have as an option specially when there are just so many to collect.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE4

All of the models have got loads of detail as far as the teams will allow them to go. There are so many trade secrets and competing teams would love to see what the others have under the hood. But in terms of exterior detail from paint work to wheels and aerodynamics the cars are accurately replicated using CAD data provided by the teams themselves. And to be honest MCG have been doing this for such a long time they really have become the BOSS at dropping reasonably priced well detailed models. I mean if your alternative is brands like BRUMM and AMALGAM and you will be satisfied with that one cherished piece. But the collectors have more than ‘one’ piece which is what defines them.

IS FERNANDO ALONSO THE JAMES BOND OF FORMULA 1?

He certainly is one of the most experienced which is why he has been brought in for mini-Stroll to shadow and hopefully become World Campion so that he can finally take over the family business like a Champion. It would certainly make Lance Strolls CV seem pretty impressive. Bburago have delivered in terms of one thing I really expected them to get right and that is the famous Aston Martin Green found on the F1 cars.

SATISFYINGLYGOOD!

A beautiful metallic shade of green which looks satisfyingly good in real life. This definitely deserves a place on the shelf at home and #14 is the Spanish stallion’s number that has gotten a few people worried, specially with his nothing to lose driving.

BBURAGO

Alfa’s return to return to F1 has been far from triumphant and unless you are Ross Brawn smart or Hesketh audacious getting world champion points in constructors is a hard fight. However, Zhou comes with fight, and he does have a stylish looking car on track. This year 2024 Alfa Romeo have gone through a complete rebrand from the sponsor and ‘Stake’ have changed their brand identity to bright green something a bit more modern, but the 2023 version is what we have from Bburago and it isn’t as garish as the green. Instead, its quite the opposite in red and black and I certainly love the 2023 colour combination.

ON CLOSER INSPECTION YOU WILL SEE THAT THESE CARS ALSO HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE FULL CARBON FIBRE TEXTURING AS WELL INSTEAD OF MATT BLACK PARTS ADDING TO THE REALISM OF THE MODEL PERFECT FOR F1 FANS.

CARBON FIBRE TEXTURE

BBURAGO

Sometimes when new guys take the leap from F2 and F3 to F1 it takes a bit of time for them to adjust the vast differences of speed and technology. For some it seems like they were born for the job. Oscar Piastri comes on as a rookie replacing a World Champion and shows the racing community he means business. And, to match that energy McLaren delivered a car that looked pretty competitive in 2023.

In addition to being competitive and delivering a few crucial points to the constructors the team also delivered some brilliant looking cars for the season. To keep thing interesting and lively some teams have now adopted the idea of doing different liveries for the races sometimes as a tribute or sponsor promotion. Which means for a season there can be varying liveries to be collected.

CHROMELIVERY

If you have been watching Drive to Survive just to see the drama behind the scenes, then you would appreciate the heated rivalry between two French Gentlemen a modern-day version of a French duel. Heated battles on and off the track whatever it is it’s good to know the human reason behind some of these accidents we see as mistakes all the time, sometimes its just two guys fighting for their jobs.

And just as NETFLIX provides us with a more reasons to love the sport so does Bburago in a very affordable way. Each of the F1 cars we have looked at in this report have a maintained quality standard across the board and this ALPINE is no different.

DESKTOP COLLECTOR

For some of us surrounding ourselves with cars of all shapes, sizes and colour is a constant dopamine injection to the brain. One it makes us feel powerful with the size of our garage (yes, ladies we know you are proud of the size of your collection too) and second, it just feels good to see our favourite cars, liveries, colours, styles to us, its art.

CCA has captured this insight and have decided to experiment with a few ideas, this one seems like a keeper. The model itself is a solid diecast FORD GT, licensed of course as is the GULF Livery, we know this because the parent company has been holding onto the GULF stuff for a while awaiting the licensing approval. Overall, the casting has potential, decent plastic side mirrors, air vents in all the right places supported by solid textured plastic its actually a very fine line between this and other brands dedicated to collectors.

DIECASTING COUCH ONE36

It does have opening and the interior is a single moulded plastic, but it does carry a bit of detailed shape and form not totally ignored. Now this is where it crosses the line a bit but keep in mind there are higher ended models that have a sound feature as well and to collectors it really doesn’t matter as long, they are happy with it. When you push the front down it activates front lights and an engine revving sound effect. I don’t mind the sound and I don’t mind the lights, what I would suggest to the design team at CCA is to make the lights light up a bit more realistically making use of the lens they have already added.

CCA

FINALLY,

the base is super functional acting as both a pen holder for two pens, a slot for holding your visiting cards and a shiny show off base plate with trivia about the car. Personally, I think this is a very clever play on the insight of collectors having models on their workspace tables, especially something to play with. This fits all the bills making it the ultimate perfect desktop companion for car collectors.

WWe were missing F1 cars in 1/24 scale and now BBURAGO delivers complete with acrylic case and designer sleeve. Formula 1 fans be thrilled be very thrilled.

Why? Well for me 1/24 is the Goldilocks Scale. It isn’t too big, and it isn’t too small. Considering how detailed 1/64 is becoming we see a few brands expanding their 1/24 range both in terms of models and details. For Bburago the new addition is F1 cars and not a moment too soon because the hype for F1 has never been higher, Fashion, Fame, scandal, battles it’s the Kardashians meet the Fast and Furious and sometimes with TOTO Wolff a little furious-er. So, bringing in this manageable scale complete with acrylic protection is genius.

So far collectors get 4 cars from 2 teams to choose from either Red Bull or Mercedes (BECAUSE 1/24 SCALE IS FOR WINNERS) not really but what is weird is that Ferrari isn’t on catalogue this year in 1/24 scale hmmm… we have suspicions.

BBURAGO

pro's

It comes in a well-cut acrylic case and black plastic base. Unlike 1/18 and 1/64 cars in acrylic cases there is no huge border of base around the car. In this the width of the base is almost as tight as the width of the car which allows the car to be seen better and more up close when it’s on display. That way you can experience the paint job, the detailed drivers helmet all the details you are allowed to see by the manufacturers of the real car will be there for you to see within that beautiful case. And if you leave the case open for dust to get in Toto Wolff will send you a custom MEME of him throwing his headphones at a picture of you.

Even though the wheels roll they don’t turn which is a huge pity because it would be nice to have turned wheels on display.

The one marque that has the longest legacy in Formula 1 and DeAgostini has an EPIC offer for the TIFOSI. A cross section of the greatest machines FERRARI has produced for FORMULA 1 of the decades of racing it has done.

DEAGOSTINI

As a TIFOSI myself my eyes and ears bled when I saw the news on social media. This is a dream come true for many reasons. Like any FERRARI F1 fan worth their salt will worship the chance to have a collection of cars that they have proposed. The cars all come in 1/24 scale, and though there is no branding by any producers we highly suspect that it’s being done with Bburago supplying the models for this promotion. Everything from the acrylic display case to the car and finally the base match with Bburago’s detail. Oh, and it comes in an acrylic display.

With DeAgostini you literally invest in a collection. You subscribe to their magazines and the cars come free but, I don’t think anyone is going to subscribe for the magazine they are going to subscribe to the cars and the free FERRARI gear that come along in some of the packages. That’s right you stick with the system and stand to get some cool Ferrari Merch.

This is the first model in the series, Charles LeClerc’s 2022 F1-75 which arrived with a 12-page comic book sized brochure detailing Charles’ 2022 season and technical information about the car. The follow up package will contain two cars: Michael Schumacher’s F1-2000 car and the F2012 driven by Fernando Alonso for the 2012 season. And this is just the beginning. In addition to all these models there will be merchandise that comes intermittently to keep you engaged in the process, but again it’s Ferrari.

As a TIFOSI are you going to pass this opportunity up?!?!?

Few motorsport events in the world can compare itself to MotoGP. It where men on two wheels, with tremendous weight to power ratios are pitted against other men with only padded clothing and a helmet to protect them. Split seconds decide winners and losers. Steeped in tradition, igniting rivalries, it relentlessly chases perfection. MotoGP pushes human and machine limits, enthralling spectators and inspiring riders for generations.

Most of the MotoGP machines are at the pinnacle of racing motorcycle technology. Brands that compete ensure that they are works of art on two wheels. Ducati, birthed in Bologna in Italy, is one such brand that has built, and continues to build, some of the world’s fastest, technologically advanced, and lusted after motorcycles in the world since 1926.

Bburago has them in all scales but at 1/43 they are small, at 1/24 there isn’t much of a difference but at 1/18 its easy to see and the graphics are far more comfortable to read. In this case Max Verstappen’s head or helmet with his Gold Lion on the top (kind of weird).

If you are new to the sport and are wondering what tyres the replica sits on, well, yellow would be the medium tyres used usually on cooler tracks with 2 to 3 stops in combination with soft tyres.

If there is one thing that Formula 1 has taught us over the years, it’s the fact that no one team is infallible and however strong the RB19 has proven to be in terms of F1 history it did have a few bad races, one of them being the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix where both drivers were struggling through the weekend. But with the struggles comes telemetric data that goes back onto the car to make things work better.

COLLECTORS, THIS IS ONE FOR THE SHELVES. IF YOU WERE TO NARROW YOUR F1 COLLECTION DOWN TO CATEGORIES, THIS ONE WOULD FIT UNDER ‘ONE OF THE BEST CARS EVER BUILT FOR A SEASON’.

It has been 50 years since FERRARI took part in Lemans let alone win it, for FERRARI fans this comes as a huge victory because we have missed FERRARI on track at Lemans not as the car per se but as a Factory Team as a Ferrari Team and 50 years later they prove that they still hold the power to build winning state of the art machines. FERRARI enters the Hyper Car scene with their middle fingers held high.

PUMA Slipstreams were launched in 1987 as part of the Basketball craze that gripped the world. It was not just ‘on court’ fashion that sports brands had to cater to but off court as well. Street wear was gaining a foothold based off street basketball and the popularity of being ‘fly’.

I BBURAGO

For Bburago this is a HALO piece, and a lot of time and effort went into getting this across into your homes. All the details carefully and meticulously created and with the quality of detail I’m pretty sure breaking a few development budgets to make this a collectors dream and visual success.

Have they pulled it off? In buckets!

There has been so much hype around the actual LeMans win that there has been plenty of photography and media reports surrounding the car giving us a good opportunity to compare the real against the model. Our thoughts: This is the best replica of the 499P you can get for the price BBurago is retailing it at. Tiny details like the carbon fibre texturing is perfect, absolutely perfect the weave is the right scale and the texture is highly visible on a lot of the parts it has been applied to.

A stylish mix of several textures that range from cloth to leather and suede makes this a comfortable and trendy addition to a smart casual outfit. It does look like what it says on the label, a shoe that glides through time and space.

The actual car was driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, who shared the driver’s seat with James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi, covering 342 laps of the French track and bringing home 39 victories and 29 class wins in totality for FERRARI at LeMans. Bburago brings home the win in terms of price and product value. A victorious combination that benefits the collectors.

Anything that runs with the FERRARI logo is a winning combination. It’s the rock-solid reputation FERRARI has built over the years synonymous with technology, style and beauty, permeating through everything that carries its logo. From the perfectly shaped body of a FERRARI machine to the sole of style that adorns your feet.

FORZA FERRARI forever!

When it comes to hot hatch rally cars FORD has spent many years and has an extensive lineage of WRC winners in its history books. This is the FORD PUMA RALLY1 launched in 2021 for the 2022 WRC season. This was a weapon because the man it was given to is nothing short of a Samurai Swordsman at the wheel of a rally car, Sebestian Loeb.

SOLIDO brings this little 2022 WRC gem to our collections with its 2021 test livery and also the clothes it was dressed in when it made its debut at the Goodwood Festival. Though it looks like madness it is actually a cleverly designed motif created to make it hard for photographers to auto focus when the car is in motion, reducing the number of leaked images that get thrown about before the car’s official release.

This is not the first time a diecast car has been dropped with its test car livery but most of them have been in 1/64 scale which is kind of a waste because at that size you can’t appreciate the intricate madness in the design. But at a scale like 1/18 one can certainly enjoy all the quirky designs that go into creating design chaos.

But it’s not just the impressive, designed wrap that’s got all the detail on this model. My usual benchmark which is the wheels are perfectly replicated OZ Racing rims with FORD branding and you can see the grooved disc within the rim with Brembo Brake callipers. Perforated grilles both in the front and back, lensed lights and of course a well detailed interior.

This livery was so iconic, that there is an enthusiast who recreated this car as his daily runner and club meet car. Apart from the fact that this model is one of BMW’s finest creations to date and of course a winner in more than one series across the globe the livery and sponsor give this car a certain sense of quirkiness making it the sort of thing that would stick out like a sore thumb in a sea of colours and brands.

SOLIDO

SSOLIDO has done a whole host of M3 E30’s and if you have been keeping track of them you could have quite the collection of DTM and BTCC E30’s that were hugely popular in the early 90’s some of them so iconic they have become part and parcel of BMW’s marketing and communications to date being such powerful examples of engineering that have set the standard for today’s modern BMW’s.

SOLIDO HAS BEEN SLOWLY WORKING TOWARDS THAT STANDARD IN THEIR ON WAY IMPROVING IN SUCH LEAPS AND BOUNDS THAT IT IS HARD TO IGNORE OR DISCOUNT THEM AS A COLLECTOR BRAND.
