Situated in the Upper Río Laja Watershed, which stretches across seven municipalities in northern Guanajuato state, San Miguel relies almost exclusively on groundwater to meet its water needs. Whenever you open a tap at home, you’re using water pumped from an underground aquifer serving more than 700,000 people in our region. Communities in and around San Miguel have been grappling with serious and persistent water security issues for many years now.

An idyllic “secret garden” spot in the campo, three minutes in a straight line from La Comer grocery store, Don Lupe Grill has been both livelihood and passion project for Michoacán native Javier “Javi” Robledo for almost 10 years in San Miguel Javi loves to cook for a crowd. His restaurant is known for authentic “comida casera” (think enchiladas, fajitas, tacos and brochetas).

On the southwest side of San Miguel, toward La Presa and just past Villa de Los Frailes, is a favorite family restaurant among locals and expats alike: Don Lupe Grill.
