“Erica Daborn’s murals depict the realities of the Anthropocene epoch”.
– Helen Donis-Keller

About the artist

● Erica Daborn was born in Winchester, England. She studied at Winchester School of Art and then at the Painting School of the Royal College of Art in London where she received her MFA.

● She moved to the U.S. in 1984 where she taught at several art colleges including for twenty years at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

● In 2015 following a fifteen-year relationship with San Miguel de Allende she settled there permanently with her husband, filmmaker Dennis Lanson. They have one daughter.

● Erica Daborn uses muralism to promote environmental and social awareness and responsibility. Visit www.ericadaborn.com to learn more about the artist.

BACKGROUND

● Daborn's intention is to bring her work to the youngest, since “they are the ones who have the power to act differently and change the future”; and at the same time, to encourage people who have not given much thought to these issues to recognize, act and prepare for the looming global crisis.

● Each of her works in "Dialogues with Mother Earth", a project created over twelve years, becomes a communication channel that shares and analyzes the relationships between us and the natural world with which we coexist.

● Her work transcends the aesthetic aspect and becomes a call to action in a powerful and subtle way.

BACKGROUND

The climatic catastrophe that we are currently facing as a consequence of human action is represented in 12 large-format charcoal drawings on canvas. The work has been exhibited at:

● City Museum of Querétaro, and at the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote within the framework of the International Cervantino Festival in 2020.

● International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) in McAllen Texas in 2019.

● INBAL Cultural Center "El Nigromante", in the city of San Miguel de Allende in 2017.

● Olin College of Engineering in Needham MA; at Clark University, Worcester, MA in 2016.

About Caminos de Agua

About the project

In her interest in contributing to the community that has welcomed her as her home, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Daborn carries out this artist's book project "Dialogues with Mother Earth" in collaboration with the Caminos de Agua Association, in support to the educational activities and field work they carry out in the Laja River Basin.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated in full to the Association.
