National Trails Day

Celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1 by walking, biking, or skating the 12 miles of trail within the community

National Trails Day, sponsored by the American Hiking Society, is the country’s largest celebration of trails. This day increases awareness about trails and celebrates the hard work and support of many people and partners including volunteers, land agencies, and outdoor minded businesses who take care of America’s trails.

There are approximately 12 miles of trail throughout the community. The Cary Park District, Village of Cary, and Cary Consolidated School District 26 have built and currently maintain certain portions of the community trail system. Trails provide a great opportunity to enjoy walking, biking, and in-line skating while providing access to local parks, schools, the library, and commerce.

Pick up a printed trail map at the Community Center or view it online even from your phone!

Let your child “shine” at this traditional day camp where it is always sunny and fun! Children will enjoy weekly themes, arts and crafts, music, water fun, and meeting new friends during our summer adventure together. Each week camp will have a scheduled water day with sprinklers, bubbles, and outdoor fun.

Each camper must bring a sack lunch, a towel, and come to camp with their swimsuit on under their clothes for outdoor water play on their scheduled days. Children must be three years old by the first day of camp. All children must be toilet trained and independent in the bathroom (no pull-ups).

Five year olds entering Kindergarten can choose to enroll in Sunshine Camp or Camp ECHO.

Camp ECHO

Exploring Cary’s Hidden Outdoors

Camp ECHO: Grades K - 5

ECHO Extreme: Grades 6 - 8

This camp is jam-packed with a variety of non-stop activities that will keep your child going for the entire day. The majority of the day is located outside where children play, exercise, gain independence, learn life skills, make friends, and have a memorable summer. In addition to arts, crafts, sports, and games, campers explore the outdoors through fishing, hiking, scavenger hunts, and more. There will also be weekly swim days and field trips. A field trip list is available at carypark.com.

Camp counselors are mature and enthusiastic high school students, college students, and adults who provide a noncompetitive environment for children to relax, have fun, and be kids. Most of our counselors have been with the Park District and the camp program for a number of years.

The youngest age for Camp ECHO is 5 years old and the camper must be entering kindergarten in the fall. If your child is younger than 5 years old, or is 5 years old and not entering kindergarten, please consider Sunshine Camp. Information can be found on page 26.

Meet Me at the Donut BarKids Life Coaching Lab

Ages 5 - 13 years EB

National Donut Day is June 7 and we are celebrating a couple days later! Have you ever wondered where the idea for the donut originated? We will investigate the history of the donut as we nibble on an assortment of decadent donuts and socialize with new friends. We will also learn when we have a “hole” in our life and how to strategically handle sadness, stress, friendships or other issues. We are calling on some of our favorite donut makers to provide gourmet donuts for this novel workshop. Kids love this light-hearted class and will leave with a few new ideas on how to handle their current “holes” or future potholes they may stumble into. All kids leave with a themed souvenir. “The dog park is just the right size. Big enough that the dogs can really stretch their legs, but not so big that you can’t keep tabs on the activity throughout the park.”

Age Appropriate:

Ages and/or grades are listed with programs as guidelines for age-specific ability. The younger the participant, the more this guideline must be followed to ensure safety, enjoyment, and accomplishment. A birth certificate may be requested if doubt occurs concerning a participant’s age.

Behavior:

Although the Park District realizes that inappropriate behavior may occur, the Park District reserves the right to suspend or remove participants from programs or facilities if hazardous, disruptive, and/or destructive behavior persists. If a participant is taken out of a program or removed from a facility due to these circumstances, a prorated refund will be issued for the remainder of the program or facility usage.

Minimum/Maximum:

A minimum and maximum number of participants is set for each program. This is to ensure the best possible experience for each participant. The Park District may increase or reduce program size if necessary.

Photos and Videos

Photos and video footage are periodically taken of participants in a class, during a special event, or in the District’s parks and facilities. Please be aware that by registering for Park District programs and activities or by using the Park District’s parks and facilities you agree that any photograph or videotape taken by the Park District may be used by the District for promotional purposes including print and electronic media without further permission and without any compensation to you. All photos/ videos are property of the Park District.

In Case of Oops!

During the course of Park District programs, there can be unforeseen circumstances that force the Park District to change schedules, instructors, combine or postpone programs, adjust facility usage or modify fees. The Park District makes every effort to ensure that the information presented in this brochure is complete and accurate; however, sometimes errors do occur and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Insurance:

The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program or facility participants. The cost would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage.

Policies, Procedures and Guidelines:

Additional Park District policies, procedures and guidelines are available for review at the Cary Park District Community Center.

A Note of Thanks:

Thank you to School Districts 155, 26 and 3 for providing facilities in which to hold recreational programs; to Park District Commissioners, volunteers, and staff who devote so much of their time; and to you, the community, for your support.

Fees:

Resident/Non-resident - The first program fees listed in the brochure are for Cary Park District residents. Non-resident (NR) fees are listed second and are the higher rate of the two. Residents support the Park District through tax dollars, while non-residents pay to participate through higher registration fees. All account balances must be paid in full before registering for new programs.

Fair Share - Those desiring to achieve resident status may pay their “fair share” of taxes based on the taxable value of their home. This entitles an individual to pay in-district fees and register for programs at the same time as residents. Fair share will be applied over a 12-month period. Some exceptions apply, please refer to the Fair Share Guidelines found in the Forms section of carypark.com.

The taxable value of a property is stated clearly on the tax bill. Fair share in not necessarily for everyone. This has to be determined by you, taking into consideration the frequency of Park District use and the value of your home.

The inquiring individual should provide a copy of their current tax bill to the Superintendent of Recreation for review. The Fair Share amount will be calculated and a written reply will be sent. If you don’t have a copy of your current tax bill, call your taxing township for your home’s taxable value.

Waiver of Fees - A Waiver of Fees program is available to provide assistance to residents with financial hardship. Confidential application may be made to the Superintendent of Recreation. Personal financial records may be requested to verify need.

ADA:

The Cary Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination in the provision of programs, services or activities to individuals with disabilities. The Park District invites any resident with a special need to contact us, or the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association staff, upon registration, to ensure a smooth inclusion.

In addition to the programs listed within our brochure, the Park District also provides specialized services for people with disabilities through the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA). Feel free to call NISRA at 815.459.0737, or see the NISRA section of this brochure for more information.

If you have any questions about the Park District’s ADA policy, or believe you have been unfairly discriminated against in the provision of programs, services or activities of the Cary Park District, please contact Dan Jones at 847.639.6100.
