National Trails Day

Celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 3 by walking, biking, or skating the 12 miles of trail within the community

National Trails Day, sponsored by the American Hiking Society, is the country’s largest celebration of trails. This day increases awareness about trails and celebrates the hard work and support of many people and partners including volunteers, land agencies, and outdoor minded businesses who take care of America’s trails.

There are approximately 12 miles of trail throughout the community. The Cary Park District, Village of Cary, and Cary Consolidated School District 26 have built and currently maintain certain portions of the community trail system. Trails provide a great opportunity to enjoy walking, biking, and in-line skating while providing access to local parks, schools, the library, and commerce.

Pick up a printed trail map at the Community Center or view it online even from your phone!

Let your child “shine” at this traditional day camp where it is always sunny and fun! Children will enjoy weekly themes, arts and crafts, music, water fun, and meeting new friends during our summer adventure together. Activities are based around a weekly theme, so campers experience different activities each week.

Each camper must bring a sack lunch, a towel and come to camp with their swimsuit on under their clothes for outdoor water play on their scheduled days. Children must be three years old by the first day of camp and completely toilet trained - no pull ups.

The philosophy of the Cary Park District is to create a positive, sensitive, and responsive environment to help children feel valued and grow with each learning experience. Through developmentally appropriate activities, we foster physical, social-emotional, and cognitive growth while promoting a lifetime love of learning.

Our Program Goals

l Provide opportunities to explore, play, experiment, and problem solve through teacher directed and student initiated activities based on curriculum aligned with Illinois Early Learning Standards.

l Promote a child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a group and community.

l Create a language, math, and science rich environment that understands and meets the developmental needs of each child socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually through literature, cooperative learning, and dramatic play.

l Establish parent communication through daily conversations, conferences, and progress reports encouraging a home to school connection through nurturing positive relationships

l Promote awareness of the larger community with visitors and field trips. Field trips and guest visitors are planned to extend your child’s learning experiences, enhancing their understanding of their environment, their community, themselves, and the world around them through hands on discovery and exploration.

Camp ECHO

Exploring Cary’s Hidden Outdoors

Camp ECHO: Grades K - 5

ECHO Extreme: Grades 6 - 8

This camp is jam-packed with a variety of non-stop activities that will keep your child going for the entire day. The majority of the day is located outside where children play, exercise, gain independence, learn life skills, make friends and have a memorable summer. In addition to arts, crafts, sports, and games, campers explore the outdoors through fishing, hiking, scavenger hunts, and more. There will also be swim days and field trips weekly. A field trip list is available at carypark.com.

Camp counselors are mature and enthusiastic high school students, college students, and adults who provide a noncompetitive environment for children to relax, have fun, and be kids. Most of our counselors have been with the Park District and the camp program for a number of years.

The youngest age for Camp ECHO is 5 years old and the camper must be entering kindergarten in the fall. If your child is younger than 5 years old, or is 5 years old and not entering kindergarten, please consider Sunshine Camp. Information can be found on page 21.

What Parents Say About Camp ECHO!

“It’s a great program that keeps our child outside and active. He can’t wait to tell us about the fun activities he did all day.”

“Thank you again for a wonderful summer, my girls enjoyed their time at camp. The counselors were super nice and friendly and kids really enjoyed them.”

“You do a fantastic job of hiring counselors who work well with kids. I appreciate knowing that many of them are college aged students focusing on early education, physical fitness, and other health related majors. They are setting a great example for younger ones.”

The Park District makes every effort to ensure that the information presented in this brochure is complete and accurate; however, sometimes errors do occur and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Insurance:

The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program or facility participants. The cost would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage.

Policies, Procedures and Guidelines:

Additional Park District policies, procedures and guidelines are available for review at the Cary Park District Community Center.

A Note of Thanks:

Thank you to School Districts 155, 26 and 3 for providing facilities in which to hold recreational programs; to Park District Commissioners, volunteers, and staff who devote so much of their time; and to you, the community, for your support.

Fees:

Resident/Non-resident - The first program fees listed in the brochure are for Cary Park District residents. Non-resident (NR) fees are listed second and are the higher rate of the two. Residents support the Park District through tax dollars, while non-residents pay to participate through higher registration fees. All account balances must be paid in full before registering for new programs.

Fair Share - Those desiring to achieve resident status may pay their “fair share” of taxes based on the taxable value of their home. This entitles an individual to pay in-district fees and register for programs at the same time as residents. Fair share will be applied over a 12-month period. Some exceptions apply, please refer to the Fair Share Guidelines found in the Forms section of carypark.com.

The taxable value of a property is stated clearly on the tax bill. Fair share in not necessarily for everyone. This has to be determined by you, taking into consideration the frequency of Park District use and the value of your home.

The inquiring individual should provide a copy of their current tax bill to the Superintendent of Recreation for review. The Fair Share amount will be calculated and a written reply will be sent. If you don’t have a copy of your current tax bill, call your taxing township for your home’s taxable value.

Waiver of Fees - A Waiver of Fees program is available to provide assistance to residents with financial hardship. Confidential application may be made to the Superintendent of Recreation. Personal financial records may be requested to verify need.

ADA:

The Cary Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination in the provision of programs, services or activities to individuals with disabilities. The Park District invites any resident with a special need to contact us, or the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association staff, upon registration, to ensure a smooth inclusion.

Residency Checks

Any registrations with payment in cash or by credit card, and no previous account history, are subject to having residency checked with a printed form of proof such as a driver’s license, utility bill, etc. Also, addresses on checks that do not match addresses on registration forms will be subject to a residency check. Individual families should register on one form. Multiple families listed on one form will prevent your registration from being processed.

Registration Confirmation

A registration confirmation will be provided only when a registration has not been granted (i.e., wait list). In this instance, a confirmation will be issued to confirm the status of these registrations.

Therefore, presume you are registered for a program unless you are notified otherwise by the Park District. Questions can be directed to 847-639-6100 ext. 0.

The Cary Park District guarantees your satisfaction with the recreation programs and activities in which you participate. If you are not completely satisfied for any reason, please let us know. You will be able to choose one of the following options:

1. Repeat the program at no charge.

2. Receive full credit that can be applied to another program.

3. Receive a full refund.

Withdrawal Guidelines:

Cary Park District reserves the right to cancel any program with insufficient enrollment.

All refund requests must be made on a Cary Park District withdrawal form and submitted to the Cary Park District office and not with the program instructor. All refund/withdrawal requests will be assessed a $5 service charge. If the second meeting of a program has passed, withdrawal requests will be considered on a prorated basis in addition to the $5 service charge. Refunds will not be issued after the third class meeting. Refer to withdrawal form for refund options.

Refunds will not be issued for one-day programs or events, sports leagues, tournaments or tickets to sports/entertainment/events or deposits for programs. Memberships, pool passes, Preschool, and E.T. KidZone withdrawals will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may require support documentation.
