Danae Palmer (Chris) is a Junior double major in Music Theatre and Public Relations. She is excited to be performing with such an amazing cast in her second Musical Production at Carthage. Previous performances at Carthage includes LEGALLY BLONDE (Judge/Ensemble), Musical Theatre Techniques showcase, National Anthem for sporting events and an Honors Recital. Jon Rasmussen (Stokes) is a sophomore majoring in Music Theatre. He is super grateful to be working with this amazing cast! Aubree Simon (Helen) is a freshman Music Theatre major. She is beyond grateful and excited to be in her first ever college musical! Martin McClendon (Co-Director, projection design) teaches, directs, and designs scenery for Carthage Theatre. He has received KC/ACTF Certificates of Merit for scenic design for the Carthage productions of MAN OF LA MANCHA, BOEING BOEING, ONE DAY IN THE SEASON OF RAIN, DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE, and a collaborative certificate for video technology for THE BREATH OF STARS. Martin was also honored to receive the Association for Theatre in Higher Education Innovative Teaching Award for 2016-17 for his work with students in developing veteran theatre projects, including the Veteran Night of the Arts fundraiser. Before coming to Carthage, Martin spent 10 years working as a professional actor, carpenter, and scene designer in Chicago and Los Angeles. He was nominated three times for Non-Equity Jeff Citation Awards while designing scenery for the Defiant Theatre Company, Chicago. In addition to designing scenery, video,

and sound at Carthage, regional scene design credits include Milwaukee Chamber Theatre and First Stage Children’s Theatre (Milwaukee, WI), Actor’s Ensemble (Rockford, IL), and The Evidence Room and Odyssey Theatres (Los Angeles, CA). Onstage appearances in Chicago include MOJO and SKYLIGHT (Steppenwolf), DANNY BOUNCING (Victory Gardens) and THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (Northlight). On-camera work includes several independent movies, episodes of ER and EARLY EDITION, and numerous commercials. He is a proud member of Actor’s Equity and SAG/ AFTRA. Martin received his MFA in acting from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana, and his BFA in acting from Rockford College. He would like to thank his beautiful wife Jennifer and his wonderful kids Arabella and Horatio for their support and inspiration.

Danny Dwaine Wells II (Choreographer) is a well traveled and versed dancer, performing throughout the United States and Europe. An alumnus of Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and a graduate of San Diego State University’s BFA Dance program, he has 10+ plus years of training in numerous dance techniques. He has also had the pleasure of training with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (Summer Intensives), Diavolo Dance Theater, and has performed works by Peter Kalivas, Michael Mizerany and Jeremy Mitchell. He continues to work as a performer and choreographer both in the U.S. and Internationally. He currently teaches master technique classes throughout the country. A few of his most recent performance credits are: Film- Waiting in the Wings, DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story Commercial/Industry- Disneyland (Parade of Dreams/ Block Party Bash/ Fantasmic) Regional Theatre- Cabaret (Kit Kat Boy/ Ensemble), Elf The Musical (Ensemble) Saturday Night Fever (Male Swing), La Cage Aux Folles (Mercedes/ Dance Captain), Footloose (Male Swing), Hairspray (Male Swing#2), The Addams Family (Dance Captain), Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Sebastian) National Tours (Non-Equity)- Hair (Hud U.S.), Sesame Street Live Tour 2014-15 (Cookie Monster/ Count Live Dancer). Danny is a

proud adjudicator and pedagogist for a variety of dance academies, dance competitions and convention circuits. Danny looks forward to countless opportunities to encourage and spread dance education to young artists.

William Newcomb (Technical Director, Assistant Professor of Theatre) holds a B.F.A. in Technical Theatre from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, and an M.F.A. in Arts Administration from Southern Utah University. He was assistant manager of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre for two years before coming to Carthage. William also served as production Manager for the Optimist Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park. William is a national member of USITT. Other credits include technical director of the Wells Fine Arts Center at Tarleton State University, assistant technical director at Oberlin College, scene shop foreman at Ohio Light Opera, and assistant to the production manager of the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

Maureen Chavez-Kruger (Scenic Designer and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Theatre) is delighted to be a part of the 2023-24 season and celebrating the return of in-person theatre to the Carthage and Kenosha community. Regional design work includes productions at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, First Stage, Next Act Theatre, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Lawrence University, and UW-Milwaukee: Peck School of the Arts. Most recent scenic design: Nuncrackers, Beehive: The 60’s Musical, My Way at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre: fml: How Carson McCullers Saved My Life, Patience and Fortitude, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Romeo and Juliet Walk into a Bar at Carthage College; and Bonnie &amp; Clyde, Twelfth Night at UW-Milwaukee: Peck School of the Arts. Maureen holds an MFA in Scene Design from Boston University and served as a board member for Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (2014-2020).

Kim Instenes (Costume Designer, Associate Professor of Theatre) holds an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University, and a BA in Theatre from UW-Whitewater. Kim continues to work as a freelance costume and make-up designer in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. Professional design credits include THE SNOW and BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, as well as the musical BIG at Milwaukee’s First Stage Children’s Theatre, the JEEVES Trilogy and INDECENT at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, and numerous shows at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Renaissance Theatre Works, Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Racine Theatre Guild. Design work at Carthage includes SOMETHING ROTTEN and costumes for the world premieres of NO NAME by Jeffrey Hatcher and GHOST BIKE by Laura Jacqmin, to name a few. GHOST BIKE won her a Certificate of Merit

from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for costume and makeup design and an invitation to show her work at the Festival. Kim is excited to be a part of the Theatre Department here at Carthage as it strengthens and strives to create theatre artists of the highest quality. She enjoys the thrill of watching a student understand what a costume does for their character and watching that character come to life as a result. She would also like to thank her family, husband Doug, and children, Lauren and Dalen, for their continued support of her creative endeavors.

Stephen Patterson (Associate Choreographer) holds a BFA in Dance & Choreography from California Institute of the Arts. He danced with Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater and Alternative Motion Project in Minneapolis and taught all over Minnesota and around the U.S. While in Minneapolis he presented work through Art to Change to the World. Currently based in Chicago, Stephen is a company member and teaching artist for The Rooted Space.

Joshua Heinlein (Assistant Choreographer), originally from El Paso, Texas, is proud to call himself a Chicago actor of eight years. He received his education in Kentucky and has a BA in Theater and Music Performance and had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of Blackbird Dance Theater during his years there. While he primarily sings and dances, he is thrilled to be making his collegiate debut as a choreographer. He is a proud husband and soon to be father. Thank you, Berenice Heinlein, for all that you do!

Emily Halfmann (Assistant Director) is a junior Music Theatre & Directing double major and Spanish minor. Carthage credits: LEGALLY BLONDE (D.A. Liv Bissonette (Stage Manager) [she/her] has stage managed/assistant stage managed for LEGALLY BLONDE, FML: HOW CARSON MCCULLERS SAVED MY LIFE, IN THE MOMENT 2022, and directing scenes SILENT SKY and ELEEMOSYNARY while at Carthage and is excited to add CARRIE THE MUSICAL to that list! Liv is currently a sophomore majoring in theatrical stage management and minoring in creative writing and French. Owen Holecko (Assistant Stage Manager) is a freshman Playwriting and Theatrical Directing double major. He is excited to start his time at Carthage with the opportunity to assistant stage manage Carrie. Previously he has student directed LEGALLY BLONDE at Neenah High School, along with stage managing THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JUNIOR. Owen has also acted in multiple productions including PUFFS (Ernie Mac), ANASTASIA (Count Ipolitov), and SEUSSICAL (Ensemble). Lauryn Klinger (Assistant Stage Manager) is a freshman double major in English and Theatrical Directing. She is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be the Assistant Stage Manager for Carrie, as her inaugural stage managing experience! Previous theater credits include MATILDA (Rudolfo), Frozen Jr. (King Agnarr), and most recently ANYTHING GOES (Captain, Assistant Director). She cannot wait to continue her Carthage theater career, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Chynna Chung (Assistant for Directors) is a master student in Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy and received her bachelor’s degree from Parkside in Vocal Performance and Music Education. She has performed in and directed various community theatre productions across southeast Wisconsin. She is currently the choir director and performance arts teacher at Washington Middle School in Kenosha. She wants to thank her husband Bryan for always being her biggest supporter!

Chiara Mao (Assistant for Directors) is a master student in Musical Theatre vocal pedagogy. She is an international student, this is her first time joining in musical production at Carthage. She’s so glad to join this wonderful team. Chiara is also an assistant with the teacher of musical history class, doing some voice teacher work off campus. She wants to thank her parents, brother, friends for always supporting and giving her encouragement, and thank teachers for giving her chances to do those things. Hope you enjoy this show!

Alison Koclanis (Assistant Lighting Designer) is a junior double majoring in Business Management and Theatre Technical Direction. She is excited to be assisting in light designing her first mainstage production at Carthage. Fine Arts at Carthage acknowledges that the land on which our building stands is part of the traditional Potawatomi, Sioux, Peoria, Kickapoo, and Miami peoples past, present, and future. These homelands reside along the southwest shores of Michigami, North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes. We honor with gratitude the land itself, and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. Many Indigenous peoples thrive in this place—alive and strong, and this calls us to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit as well.
