During that same time period, Dean and Jennifer also got married and have been married now for 17 years. Dean now had a beautiful wife and a promising career with a new budding automotive brand. Dean served as finance manager for 2 years, until 1995, when he then became the used car manager at Saturn of Edmund. Just 1 year later, in 1996, Dean received the offer that would bring him to where he is today. During his periodic corporate training with Saturn, Dean met Conrad Holt, the general manager for Saturn of Lubbock, and they became friends. Conrad’s dealership was part of Dick Pollard’s network of dealerships in Texas (which eventually consisted of Pollard Ford, Saturn of Lubbock, Saturn of Amarillo, Saturn of Abilene, Saturn of Permian Basin, Mazda of Midland, Saturn of Arlington, Saturn of Ft. Worth, and Saturn of Hurst, as well as their affiliate used car lots). In 1996, plans were put into motion for a new Saturn dealership in our very own Amarillo. With a recommendation from Conrad, Dean was recruited by Pollard to become the new general manager of Saturn of Amarillo, and so, Dean moved to Amarillo to handle Saturn’s newest branch of dealerships.
Dean was charged with the task of handling nearly everything for the dealership from the ground up including lease arrangements, construction, and even dealer agreements with Saturn corporate. In October of 1996, Saturn of Amarillo opened its doors with Dean Sather leading the dealership into what would be over a decade of success. In 1999, Saturn of Amarillo expanded its used car area to include Pollard Used Cars and in 2001, opened Used Cars of Amarillo to accommodate the ever growing used car inventory. Saturn of Amarillo typically sold 3 used vehicles for every 1 new Saturn, and so the used car expansion was a must for the dealership. Despite averaging roughly 3 used for every new vehicle sale, Saturn of Amarillo’s new car performance was exceptional, with the dealership averaging 4 to 5 times the national market penetration for Saturn (national average was 5%, Saturn of Amarillo’s was 20-25%). During its years, Saturn of Amarillo averaged 150 vehicles sold every month. In addition to its two local affiliate used car locations, Saturn of Amarillo also opened Used Cars of Clovis in 2008 to expand beyond Amarillo. During Saturn of Amarillo’s impressive years of success, Dean was given the opportunity to buy into the company as a co-owner in 2005. Dean’s business achievements at Saturn of Amarillo were not his only blessings and during his time with Saturn of Amarillo, Dean and Jennifer were gifted with the birth of two children, Maggie, now 11 years old, and Mallory, now 7. Dean said that his family means the world to him and despite a great deal of business to handle, he (Dean) always makes time for family. Saturn of Amarillo had a spectacular run of business, and received a multitude of General Motors awards as well as Better Business Bureau
nominations and many local and national achievements. Despite an amazing stent in the local auto industry, Dean and his partners at Pollard decided in late 2008 that due to G.M.’s financial issues, that relinquishing their Saturn dealer contract back to G.M. would be their most prudent move. As one of the co-owners however, Dean chose to take over the Used Cars of Amarillo lot and opened his own used car dealership in April of 2009. And so, Cross Pointe Auto was born. Dean’s transition from Saturn, his career namesake for nearly 20 years, has not affected his dedication to good business by any means. Dean’s dedication to customer satisfaction is his mantra, and has served in his success throughout the years. Cross Pointe’s goal is to provide consumers with quality, reliable vehicles for $20K or less. Dean also has the capability to serve as a broker (vehicle locator), and if Cross Pointe doesn’t have it, they can find it and get it. In addition to general used vehicle sales and broker services, Cross Pointe is capable of doing some limited in house financing on select vehicles, which gives this dealership an
exceptional array of services available to the customer. Dean and the staff at Cross Pointe’s philosophy is, “Always do what’s right & take care of the customer.” Dean, in addition to being a successful businessman and dedicated family man, is also very active in the community. Dean and his family are very active in church and Dean also has volunteered in the Amarillo division of the Boy Scouts since 2000, providing leadership as an Eagle Scout.
