Mustang mavens will easily spot a 2010 Mustang in a herd of ponycars by its new sheetmetal. But for the rest of us, the driver's seat is the best place to appreciate just what separates the latest edition of Ford's icon from its predecessor. Rather than reinvent its sporty muscle car (as Dodge did with the 2009 Challenger), Ford employed a strategy successfully used in the evolution of another automotive iconâ€”the Porsche 911â€”that, like Mustang, has also been around for 45 years. The styling, interior and spec sheets closely resemble those of the current Mustang platform (which debuted in 2005) because Ford engineers concentrated on details and tweaks to refine rather than redo areas
such as exterior styling, aerodynamics, interior fit and finish, performance and handling. Tom Barnes, Mustang vehicle engineering manager, sums it up as taking the current model and "building in more Mustang." It's a strategy that makes sense, given that the Mustang formula has accounted for over 9 million customers and a cultlike following that stretches across four and
T The Specs 22010 Mustang buyers will choose from a coupe, a convertible or a new glass-roof model powered by either a V6 or V8 engine. The 4.0-liter V6 produces 210 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The 4.6-liter V8 benefits from a new ram-air intake system derived from Ford's racing programs that boosts horsepower from 300 to 315 with maximum torque of 325 lb-ft. The engine's redline has also been stretched from 6250 rpm to 6500 rpm. While regular unleaded is the standard fuel, the engine management system rewards big spenders who opt for premium with a fatter torque curve, from 1000 to 3000 rpm. Both engines feature 0.5-in.-larger exhaust tipsâ€”the V6 growing to 3 in. and the V8 to 3.5 in.
A five-speed manual transmission is standard with the option of a five-speed automatic. The big drivetrain news is the availability of more performance-oriented optional rear axles on V8 models in lieu of the standard 3.31 limited-slip unit. Ratios offered are 3.55 or 3.73. The latter also gets you performance front brake pads (same as the 2009 Bullitt Mustang) and a recalibrated on/off sport mode for the Advance Trac electronic stability control. The Track Pack option aimed at track day enthusiasts includes a 3.73 limited slip with upgraded carbon-fiber clutch plates, front and rear performance brake pads, a hollow 34 x 5.8 mm front stabilizer bar and 24 mm solid rear stabilizer bar from the 2007 to 2009 Shelby coupe, Shelby rear lower control arm, and specific track-tuned dampers a half decades. Speaking of suspension tuning, the V6 models get a rear stabilizer bar for 2010 while V8s benefit from the front spring plus front and rear stabilizer bars of the 2009 Bullitt package. Rear springs are 17 percent larger than the '09 Bullitt. Advance Trac electronic stability control is standard on all models. V6s ride on standard 17-in. wheels with optional 18-inchers. Once you start driving, the interior continues to

Tackling the tight, twisty roller-coaster confines of the Streets of Willow race circuit demonstrated the benefits of the 3.73 rear axle and the Track Pack over the standard setup. The Bottom Line Ford's effort to make the 2010 a better car than its predecessor seems successful. With the V6 coupe starting at $20,995 and the GT at $27,995, it continues Mustang's premise: sportiness at a reasonable price. Add the $795 Track Pack and weekend warriors as well as Mustang fans will be rooting for Ford's future.

The Man Behind the Commercials summer of 2003, AutoPro began its expansion into what many now know as AutoPro Inc.
Robert Stiner of AutoPro The Man Behind the Commercials Part II of II When we last left Robert Stiner, he had just acquired a very favorable spot in the rear location of what was once a large dealership owned by Dickey Stout in what is now AutoPro’s body shop. During the year that Stiner and AutoPro were in this small location, AutoPro’s vehicle sales averaged roughly 7 cars every 2 days. While in this location, Robert had the opportunity to purchase the remainder of Dickey Stout’s lease on the entire property. This jump from afew thousand feet of space to multiple 10’s of thousands of feet was a risky gamble, but after a short time of contemplation, Robert Stiner and AutoPro leapt into the possibility of either disastrous failure or absolute domination, for this decision, there was no gray area. And so, Stiner proceeded to purchase a fairly large inventory of vehicles, office supplies, and the like, all on credit. With the entire future of AutoPro on the line, Robert embarked on an automotive sales spree that ended with an astounding 118 cars sold in the 1st month with a meager staff of only 7 employees (sales, secretarial, etc.). From that fateful
After a fairly successful 3 year run, Robert Stiner acquired the rights to sell new Suzuki vehicles and expanded his dealership to include the building that once housed Driver’s Choice in the summer of 2006. The building was acquired to handle the Suzuki division of the sales department. AutoPro’s first new Suzukis arrived in December of 2006 and included 7 all wheel drive vehicles. Roughly 1 year later in November of 2007, AutoPro was awarded the rights to the Mitsubishi franchise for Amarillo and within 2 months, Stiner’s budding company received its first new Mitsubishi vehicles. With 2 new car franchises under his belt and a successful used car division still flourishing, Robert Stiner and AutoPro set their sights even higher with plans for expansion to a new location that would specialize in luxury import and specialty vehicles. In April of 2008, only a matter of 5 months after AutoPro’s last automotive expansion, Robert began working on plans for Luxury Imports, now located on the corner of 45th and Coulter. He received city approval in July 2008 and began construction on the new location, what was once a gas station, shortly thereafter. Do to the unfortunate economic crisis that arrived in 2008, combined with complications in
construction with the unique architecture of the building, the original completion date had to be pushed back from October of 2008 to March of 2009, some five months late. However, on March 5th, 2009, Luxury Imports of Amarillo opened its doors to its first eager costumers. Despite the setback from construction of AutoPro’s new luxury store, Robert’s business development was not halted. During the construction period for Luxury Imports, AutoPro acquired the building formerly known as All Season Motorplex as an expansion to its flagship store as well as opening Discount Auto Warehouse located less than a ½ mile away near Georgia and 45th, both of which occurred in August of 2008. Discount Auto Warehouse was opened to specialize in handling inexpensive vehicles that could aid consumers that may have special financing needs or for those looking for vehicles that were easier to purchase with cash.
To date, AutoPro employees over 50 people across 3 locations with over 500 vehicles available to its customers. In addition, AutoPro owns 2 of the 3 buildings of its dealerships (with the main building on 45th still under lease until 2017) With the expansion of AutoPro’s main location complete, for now, and the doors open at AutoPro’s 2 sister location’s, Robert Stiner’s dream for an automotive company that can provide a full spectrum of pricing and vehicles (from the inexpensive vehicles at Discount Auto Warehouse, to mid range vehicles at AutoPro Suzuki Mitsubishi, to the high end luxury vehicles of Luxury Imports of Amarillo), has come to fruition. Despite plans that seemed over ambitious to many in the local automotive community, especially during the recession that afflicted the auto industry, Robert admits that his company’s growth plans were made prior to the recession. During our interview Robert said, “If I had the chance to do it all over again, I probably would have moved a little slower and a little surer because customer satisfaction is my #1 concern. All of the complications (with
building and construction) compounded by the recession have caused employees and customers to suffer. I want everyone that leaves here to be completely happy, with customers coming first, happy employees second, and profitability last.” When asked about the current financial state of the auto industry, Robert said that the biggest challenge right now is providing affordable financing to the average consumer due to the recession. The cost to the auto dealer in bank acquisition fees has skyrocketed during the financial slump, making it much harder to obtain financing for even those with moderate credit, let alone those with a rough credit history. In order to help his employees during the economic trough in the auto market, Robert has taken some personal losses to keep from laying off any valued staff members and to maintain the staff’s high contentment with their employment at AutoPro. When asked about those personal sacrifices, Robert stated, “I’ve taken a 400% pay cut to keep from laying off my valued employees. Again, what matters to me most is customers first, employees second, and my own profit last. I greatly value my employees being happy and I want them to enjoy working here at AutoPro and to not have to worry about getting laid off.” Currently, Robert
draws the smallest salary in the entire company in order to place the needs of his staff ahead of his own. Despite the down slope that the economy has been in, Robert projects that, at least for the auto industry, the worst is here and is passing and that the recession will digress within the next 24 months. With that in mind, Robert’s plans for AutoPro’s expansion have not halted, although they have taken a more cautious momentum. When asked about future plans for AutoPro, Robert could not get into details, but did hint at wanting to acquire more import brand franchises to have under the proverbial AutoPro “belt.” With a unique and creative marketing campaign, Robert Stiner has made AutoPro a common household name in Amarillo. Robert’s life is a guiding light to those who were not born into wealth, but his path thru life shows us how even a meager child born into a hard working blue collar family, can grow into a successful and well known businessman. We will all be looking forward to seeing what comes next for AutoPro, and its owner Robert Stiner, the man behind the commercials.
According to recent studies, 5 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities are clearly caused by automobile maintenance neglect. The following simple and inexpensive preventive checks will greatly extend the life of the vehicle, ensure safer operation and even benefit the environment. Always consult your ownerâ€™s manual, but a good rule of thumb is to have the oil filter changed regularly, every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Have all fluids checked, including brake, power steering, transmission/transaxle, windshield washer solvent and antifreeze. These fluids play a large role in the safety and performance of the vehicle. Check tire inflation. Under-inflated tires can result in a loss of fuel efficiency. This is the least expensive form of preventive and safety maintenance. Tires should be checked once a month.
Keep your engine tuned. A fouled spark plug or plugged/restricted fuel injector can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 percent.
Have the chassis lubricated frequently. This step extends the life of the moving components of the vehicle's suspension system. Check battery cables and posts for corrosion and clean them as needed. The battery fluid should also be checked and filled if it is low, except in the case of maintenance-free batteries. Have the lighting system checked frequently, including headlights, turn signals, and brake and tail lights. Check windshield washer blades for cracks, tears and windshield contact. Replace them approximately once a year or sooner if streaking begins. Inspect engine belts regularly. Worn belts will affect the engine performance. Look for cracks and missing sections or segments. Have the air filtration system checked frequently. The air filter should be checked approximately every other oil change for clogging or damage. This system ensures that the vehicle is performing at its peak condition.
