Hello, Happy Holidays.

Welcome to the first edition of the Wish Book by cf&co. In

this special issue of ARTful style, we are taking a page from

catalogs of the past (and maybe dating ourselves a bit). In the heyday of print advertising, the arrival of a Sears, JC Penney,

or Montgomery Wards catalog (to name a few) signaled the official start of holiday thinking. By Thanksgiving, it would be

well-worn and dog-eared by every member of the family –

each carefully identifying what they wished to unwrap on that magic morning.

All of us at cf&co look forward to the holiday season—a time

for celebration, reflection, and connection. Whether planning

perfect Secret Santa surprises, welcoming guests to a festive event, or searching for a list of new seasonal sips and bites, we hope you’ll find inspiration in the following pages. We’ve

assembled a collection of carefully curated items of a few of our “favorite things.” For whoever is on your “nice list” we trust the perfect item is inside this issue.

In addition to the delightful art-inspired gifts, we’ve also

included a favorite recipe from each of us. Not every “gift”

needs to be elaborate or wrapped. The gift of giving takes

many forms. From savory appetizers to hearty soups, warm

drinks, and cookies - homemade with love - these offerings bring every bit as much delight.

Finally, at this time of year, we often think of parties, wrapped packages, and gatherings with friends and family. Unfortunately, for many, this is not their perspective. The real spirit of the

season is in our ability to turn our gaze outward and offer our time and talents to uplift those in our communities who are struggling. We hope you will join us in our commitment to the

organizations that speak to your heart and find ways to make a difference – during the holidays and all year round.

Carrie’s Maple Cookies with Maple Glaze 2 cups (280g) all-purpose flour MAPLE GLAZE 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoons unsalted butter ½ teaspoon salt ¼ cup (60 ml) real maple syrup ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter ¾ cup (90g) powdered sugar, sifted ¾ cup (150g) dark brown sugar 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 large egg Pinch salt ½ cup (120 ml) real maple syrup 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 teaspoon maple extract (optional) 1 cup (100g) chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS

— In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

— In a mixer bowl fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter and dark brown sugar on medium speed for about 3 minutes, until light and fluffy. Add maple syrup and beat until combined.

Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and maple extract, if using. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed. Add flour mixture and beat on low speed just until combined. Then add pecans.

Do not over mix.

— Wrap cookie dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least an hour. If the chilled cookie dough is hard to handle after being chilled, leave it on the counter for a few minutes to soften.

— Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C. Line 2 pans with parchment paper.

— Drop rounded balls of dough, 30g or 1.5 tablespoons each, onto prepared baking sheets (I like using this ice cream scoop to create my cookie dough balls). Leave 2-inches/5cm between each cookie. Bake for 10-11 minutes, just until the cookies begin to brown at the edges. Cookies will appear undone but will continue to bake on the warm baking sheet. Leave cookies to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.

To make the maple glaze: Melt the butter in a saucepan on the stove top or the microwave. Then, combine with the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together with a whisk or fork. Drizzle over cooled cookies. Lightly garnish with a dash of flaked salt. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.

Dana’s Hot Buttered Rum Batter 1 quart vanilla ice cream 1 lb. unsalted butter 1 lb. brown sugar 1 lb. powdered sugar

DIRECTIONS

2 teaspoons ground nutmeg 1 tablespoon cinnamon Quality Spiced Rum

In a large bowl, let ice cream and butter sit at room temperature until soft. Add remaining ingredients and mix on medium speed until smooth.

Return batter to freezer and use as needed. When ready to serve add 2 tablespoons of frozen mixture to a mug. Add a shot of spiced rum if desired and hot water to fill. Stir well. Garnish the top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick or sprinkle of cinnamon on top!

Danielle’s Roasted Mushroom Soup 1 lb (450g) mixed wild mushrooms (shiitake, cremini, oyster & chanterelles) 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 medium onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme) 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth 1 cup heavy cream (optional for creaminess) Salt and pepper to taste Fresh parsley or chives, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

— Preheat Oven to 400°F — Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and cut larger mushrooms into smaller pieces.

— Spread the mushrooms on a baking sheet, drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.

— Roast in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden and tender. Stir halfway through for even roasting.

— In a large pot, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for another minute until fragrant.

— Add the roasted mushrooms to the pot with the onion and garlic. Stir to combine.

— Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

— Using an immersion blender, blend the soup until smooth. Alternatively, you can carefully transfer the soup in batches to a blender for a smoother texture. If you prefer a chunkier soup, blend only half of it and leave the rest as is.

— If you’d like a creamier soup, stir in the heavy cream and heat through. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.

— Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with fresh parsley or chives. Enjoy with crusty bread or a side salad!

Heather’s Layered Phyllo Pastry with Brie, Cranberry, & Pecans 12 sheets phyllo dough, thawed 8 oz Brie cheese, sliced thinly ½ cup cranberry sauce (homemade or store-bought) ½ cup pecans, toasted and roughly chopped 3 tablespoon honey 4 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing the phyllo dough) Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

DIRECTIONS

— Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

— Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and brush with more butter. Repeat until you have a stack of 6 sheets.

— Cut the stack into rectangles (about 4x4 inches) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

— Bake the phyllo rectangles for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Cool slightly.

— Place one baked phyllo rectangle on a serving plate and layer it with sliced Brie, a spoonful of cranberry sauce, and a sprinkle of chopped pecans. Add another phyllo rectangle on top.

— Drizzle the layered pastry with honey for a touch of sweetness and garnish with fresh thyme if desired. Serve warm for the perfect combination of crispy pastry, creamy Brie, and tangy cranberry sauce, balanced by the sweetness of honey.

The ART of Giving Back

One of the most profound joys for me this time of year is the emphasis on giving - whether it’s sharing gifts with loved ones, volunteering time, or donating to those in need. Maybe it’s just the season? Maybe we’re all a little weary by the end of the year and are more willing to share grace with our fellow man? Whatever it is, the holidays seem to bring out the best in us. However, the spirit of giving should not be confined to the holiday season; it is a year-round practice that enriches both the giver and the recipient, fostering a sense of community and connection.

Charitable giving is a meaningful way to make a positive impact on the lives of others and honoring causes that resonate deeply with us. The cf&co team contributes throughout each year to many worthy organizations – offering our time, services, and often artworks for the benefit of fundraising. All are incredibly important in what they provide to our communities, and it’s always challenging to choose which we will work with among the many who ask.

One organization we closely worked with this year is the Denver Children’s Foundation (DCF).

DCF is dedicated to raising money for disadvantaged and at-risk youth in our local Denver community and makes grants to non-profits that align with their mission. As importantly, DCF seeks to develop young business leaders into the next generation of philanthropists by encouraging hands-on work, fundraising, and a commitment to service. These wonderful men are paying it forward in their efforts on behalf of Denver’s kids and by ensuring the organization continues beyond today’s leadership.

With mindfulness toward giving back, cf+home also seeks to source materials and products that provide opportunities for small businesses to thrive. This month’s release of the aura petit-four candles is such an example. These little glass containers come to us from a small artisan collective in Mexico, where the art of glassblowing continues and a partnership with Sprout Enterprises facilitates the business development. When you purchase these candles, you’re not only filling your space with signature Carrie Fell fragrance, but you’re also part of an effort to develop the economic basis of communities to live in dignity, free from hunger and extreme poverty. Finally, as we celebrate the season of generosity, I hope you will carry this spirit forward, remembering that every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to make a difference. After all, the true essence of giving lies not in the act itself but in the love and hope it spreads.
