NEXT ADVERTISING AGENCY

Next is an advertising agency located in the heart of Fulton Market, in Chicago, IL. The conceptual inspiration for this project came from the collaborative nature of honey bees, as this is a value that NEXT shares. Colors derived from the flowers that bees are attracted to were utilized in each department throughout the space, providing individuality and wayfinding elements.

CONCEPT INSPIRATION

CONCEPT APPLICATION

To reflect species of flowers that bees are attracted to, each department is assigned a different color palette, distinguishing the areas from each other. This contributes to the office’s wayfinding and gives the employees in each department a unique sense of individuality.

MAIN DINING PERSPECTIVE

JURA SWISS CUPCAKERY

Jura Cupcakery, located in the borough of Brooklyn, NY draws inspiration from the tops of the Swiss Alps, the cordial presence of the natives, and their architecture. Warmth and soft textures are derived from the glow exuded from mountainside chalets and the bark of the local pine trees. The cupcakery offers cupcakes, pastries, and coffee with flavors drawn from Swiss classics.

BRAND IMAGE

Successful branding is key to a flourishing new business so there are many ways in which this will be achieved in Jura Swiss Cupcakery. First, a cohesive selection of materials reflecting the Swiss Alp based concept, chosen for their commercial durability are highlighted in a flat lay. A prominent social media presence is important for new businesses to build customer loyalty and increase brand awareness.

A menu with cupcakes and beverages with flavors derived directly from Switzerland will transport the guests to the country through its flavorful cultural representation. A retail area will be located directly off the entrance with items such as apparel, cookbooks, mugs, and hot pads. Avid customers of Jura Swiss Cupcakery who want to support and represent the business outside of its brick-and-mortar location can purchase these goods for their personal use or to gift to loved ones!

FIRST FLOOR WAITING ROOM & RECEPTION PERSPECTIVE

STUCKEY DESIGN FIRM

For this project we were challenged to design our own design firm, including a design production area for 4 junior designers, a private office, a reception area, a front desk, a conference room, and other spaces required of an office facility. We were given an existing 30’ x 38’ building south of Palm Springs, California city limits with the ability to add 10’ to each side of the building.

PARTI DIAGRAMS

These sketches show initial brainstorming done thinking about how the space would be divided. The curved lines were carried on into the final design as well as the inset curtain wall on the southwest corner of the building. The curved line in the top sketch is also reflected in the roof line shown in the site plan.

RENDERED EXTERIOR ELEVATION

This exterior elevation displays the building’s steel-raised double roof. This system not only adds an architecturally appealing facade to the exterior of the building but is also beneficial in preventing heat transfer through conduction. This is especially important in a location such as Palm Springs, where natural light is prominent. This roof detail will ultimately be effective in reducing cooling costs and promoting su stainability over time.

CONCEPT STATEMENTFURNITURE AND FINISHES

This project was designed with inspiration taken from the colors, light, and playfulness of kaleidoscopes. Palm springs has a vibrant night life and being a place with ample daylight, using it to the design’s advantage to reach the project’s goals was very intentional. Inspiration was drawn from the geometry and color that comes from the nature of the structure of the object. Often comprised of colored glass and a natural wood exterior, similar elements were pulled into the design of this firm. Comparable juxtaposing curves and geometric shapes are highlighted through the use of curved walls and strong grounding elements in the space. Lastly, color is introduced through the use of materials in fabric, paint, and even some acrylic partitions to divide the space.

COMMUNITY ROOM PERSPECTIVE

FAITH COMMUNITY CENTER

For this project, we got the opportunity to work with Faith Community Center and design a community space to bring revitalization and renewal into Gary, IN. They wanted a space that could accommodate groups for conferences and banquets, while also catering to everyday use with areas for activities such as trade training, organized activities, and dance classes.

Radial circulation was utilized in this design to create emphasis on a feeling of unity. Each grouping of rooms with similar functions were placed together for cohesiveness and ease of use, as the users may not have used the space prior.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Steel mills are part of Gary’s history that greatly contributed to their prosperity in the 1970’s. This metaphorical concept of steel mills will be achieved through choice of materials & furniture organization. Various metals and fabrics representative of steel in both its solid and molten form will be used.

CONCEPTUAL CIRCULATION PLAN

MATERIAL FLAT LAYS

For materials and finishes in this project, I wanted to bring in color and texture through the fabric and use the highlight the existing building’s materials by leaving them white or their original color. A lot of cool colors were used as the base of this design in the grays and blues, then they were juxtaposed by the warm reds and oranges-- used to reflect the concept.

ISOMETRIC VIEWS

Each of these isometric views displays a different seating arrangement for different purposes the client wanted this space to fulfill. The area would be used for presentations, community events, everyday collaboration, and training activities. The furniture selected was all mobile and easy to store.
