Welcome to Refer to Thompsons, a new service o ered by Thompsons Scotland LLP. This service is for firms across Scotland, and out-with to refer clients who need advice about a personal injury claim.

Whether you are a firm outside the personal injury space or your own team is at capacity, and you need an extra pair of hands, Refer To Thompsons allows you to o er a bolt-on Personal Injury Service for your clients, without the need to recruit in-house. Partnering with Refer to Thompsons prevents client attrition by keeping your clients within your firm’s service, even if you are not handling their case directly. Referring your client to a vetted reputable team of experts helps you maintain client trust and reduces the risk of your client’s claim being mishandled elsewhere.

Since the opening of our first Scottish o ce in Edinburgh in 1979 we’ve built a reputation for being formidable litigators. Our reputation grew from the knowledge that a Thompsons lawyer always took a fearless approach to prosecuting civil claims in Scotland’s Supreme Court and the multiple successes that approach ensured. From those beginnings, Thompsons has expanded its referral service to o er on-demand legal advice to a wide network of solicitor firms and individuals across Scotland, the wider UK and the United States.

The service we provide has always been a flexible one, designed to put the referrer firm, alongside their client, in control.

Whether and to what extent a referrer firm remains involved, once Thompsons have been instructed, is a decision for them and their client. Some choose to remain involved at every step whilst others prefer to hand over the case, safe in the knowledge, that Thompsons will deliver on service excellence.

You may want to refer the case from the outset, take a brief precognition and gather essential information before passing on. Some partners like to investigate and intimate a claim, bringing Refer to Thompsons in as the case develops or after an insurer rejects the claim. You choose what works best for you in each case.

How will the case be funded?

A crucial part of any personal injury case is funding. Clients want a worry & risk-free journey through their personal injury claim. With Refer to Thompsons a worry and risk-free journey is on o er. We ensure full funding of outlays as the case progresses, which allows every case’s full preparation and maximised results in court. We operate on a No Win, No Fee model, o ering a damages-based fee structure.

FINANCIAL BENEFIT & REVENUE GENERATION;

Refer to Thompsons o ers a flexible, optimised pricing structure for revenue generation. We can o er both immediate and/or longer-term value to your firm. You only need to decide the approach and level of involvement you’d like to have in the case.

Flexible revenue options include:

A: An Upfront Fee providing immediate revenue to your firm. B: An end of case percentage-based fee allowing deferred revenue, aligned with success and C: A combination of A & B

You decide how much involvement you’d like to have in the cases you refer. Being fully flexible, the level of involvement you choose can vary from case to case.

We are happy to look at personal injury cases in the following categories:

*We will always try to assist clients referred through our network of referral partners in the same way we have been doing for our clients who come direct, for decades. Not every case starts o looking like a great case, sometimes it takes time to interrogate and recover the evidence to allow a prospects assessment to be undertaken. This means, from time to time, we will need time to carry out initial investigations before the case’s prospects can be assessed and allow us to fully commit to proceed with the claim. If this situation arises, we will keep you advised of a need to defer payment of a referral fee until such investigations are concluded.
