...to everyone in the past that has supported our program of what we like to think are pretty functional cattle. It has been a pleasure raising and selling these individuals to each and everyone of the people we have over the last 25 bull sale seasons. We started on the road 25 years ago with bulls to places like Battleford, Lloydminster, Kelvington, Regina and Yorkton. Over the years we focused on Regina and Yorkton till we took the plunge and started our sale on the farm. We are proud of how we have evolved over the years and the cattle we have in our yard at present are Cameron’s dream come true. Our focus was changing our females through the strength of the sires we chose. We know it is faster to make changes through the bull and good money spent this way will pay off many times faster. This is definitely true in our program. This year is a year where your bull purchase, if you chose from our program of yearling bulls will change your calf crop 50% to the more positive when the time comes to sell your calves.

We have an amazing group of bull calves and replacement heifers to offer you and we never like to go through a year without some changes. So this year we will be adding another person to our sales force with the likes of Mr. Jim Nugent on our staff of sales people. Jim has a 25-year history with us, not just our auctioneer Mr Brent Carey. So just to fill you in on Jim’s history with us. We first met Jim at the Pride of the Prairie’s bull sale where he bought our top offering for a very respectable price, which was more than PFRA was allowing in the budget that year. So he told us he was taking this animal home for his own cows. Over the years Jim has followed our program and I can say that PFRA, with either Jim or his counterparts have bought many outstanding herd sires for their pasture programs from us. So for 24 years we have been privileged to have PFRA as our volume buyer. Cameron approached Jim to maybe join us because we like our sales people to have the confidence in what we have to offer. We pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity in our cattle and in our own principles so Jim was a natural to ask for his help. He has believed in our program over the years with the purchases of our cattle. His side kick, Doug Ferguson, always used to joke and say just load the whole works up and lets get moving. So if you need a buyer you can trust with his eye and his knowledge of cattle, Jim is the man to phone about your bull purchase needs. Last year, we also employed Jim Halberg aka “Shiny” from Weyburn. He is another gentleman that has judged our cattle and ourselves at Agribition and Harvest Showdown. With Jim’s job as our barn boss in Regina at Agribition he was a person we respected and wanted to have help us market our bulls in the south of the province. A few years back we turned our semen testing over to the Swift Current Clinic, under Doug Man’s watchful eye. He will semen test these bulls on the 20th of March so if you have any questions just give him a call.

Our auctioneer Mr. Brent Carey has been through our bullpen already and he is excited to sell them to you on the 31st of March in our yard. He along with Scott Johnstone is also at your service when it comes to our program and animals. Don’t hesitate to call either one of them.

Sale This amazing calf is out of CPRA 26Z female which was a feature in our first ever cow offering when she was a baby at side. The new owner chose the mom over her so we were allowed to keep her till she showed us her first offspring. Then Phil Bernie from WRAZ Red Angus pried her out of Cameron this fall for $7,000 . I came home to hear she was gone and now we have this unbelievable bull calf to offer. 26Z gave us this tremendous bull as a heifer and the sire of this boy, WRAZ 80Z was purchased as the top selling bull in Phil’s sale three years ago. We are offering this calf but there will be something said on sale day about how he will be sold.

This calf is proof that Cameron’s girls give us amazing offspring to offer to our customers.

It seems that this year Cameron is really in love with the Buster Bulls so here is another really amazing calf. Our calves are due to their mothers and this boy is no exception. His mother is CPRA 115P. We affectionately call her Apricot. She is also the mother of CPRA 546Y , Yama Ha who we share with Cathy Piller of Liberty C Angus of Melville. This bull is one of Cameron’s favorites because of his love for the cow. So really take a close look at this well put together calf with lots of volume, depth and sound feet and legs. We bought RSL 522U or Buster as we call him a few years back as a 2 year old. He was a bull we had hoped to sire some really strong bull calves off of. With both Dam and Sire being proven in our Red breed we expected great things from him. Then this past year he made Cameron mad when all our corrals became toothpicks for him so we sold him to a top commercial producer, Gary Clark of Spy Hill and he went with a warning to sell him in the fall because he likes to fight when he isn’t courting the girls. So what happens to us. Buster is gone and his bull calves this year are proving how well bred he was. This calf on offer is THE best Buster we have raised to date out of an exceptional cow that stands out because of her exceptional Udder and correctness in structure.

Baron, as he is named, is a sight to behold.

Guidelines For Management and Care of Yearling Bulls 1. Remember, your bull is now only 10-12 months old, even though he may weigh 1,000 -1,300 lbs. He has been on a feed test and ration changes must be done gradually. It is good to let them harden up on pasture before breeding season begins. However, the pasture must be good, and they will require extra energy and protein. If turned out on poor pasture or dropped off too fast, they can lose weigh rapidly. Research shows that this causes a bull to produce poor quality semen and also affects the bull’s libido. It takes 60 days for sperm to develop and mature. Any stress condition during that time can reduce its fertilizing ability.

2. Don’t expect a young bull to compete with older bulls or horned bulls. If intimidated by an older bull, he won’t breed effectively. If handled properly and not dominated by older bulls, a young bull should serve 20-25 females his first season. Size of pasture and terrain also influence this.

3. Limit the breeding season to no more than 60 days on a yearling bull. If you can’t limit the season, consider rotation to give him a rest.

4. Watch a young bull early in the season to detect any physical problems. A virgin bull can have inadequacies undetected except through observation.

5. Maintain a good general health program, mineral, salt and fly control.

6. Recondition young bulls after the breeding season to allow them to mature to their genetic capabilites. This is a very critical age. A young bulls usefullness as a two year old can be retarded if not properly reconditioned after use as a yearling.

7. After its first breeding season, remember young bulls change their teeth anytime between 16 -24 months depending on each animal’s maturity, therefore they may lose condition due to this. Treat them with some extra hay and grain to prevent possible weight loss due to this change.

Open Heifers Our sale is always geared around our bullpen but the last few years we have offered some of our top girls.

This year is no exception but I have to explain that I ran out of time when cleaning up the heads of our bulls I didn’t get to the girls before pictures were being done. So they are going to show you how much we pride ourselves on the hair our animals can grow. Don’t let that fool you though. We really have a hard time parting with the girls we raise on this farm and these girls were some of Cameron’s very favorites. We kept back 50 females as replacements and we are hard on our herd. We calved out over 200 and kept only 30 bulls and 50 heifers. We want only the very top end to go out as purebreds. So don’t hesitate on taking home a female from our farm!

I have been given some extra space to fill in so what better way than to tell you about what we love the most, our children. Our farm is always about our children and our cattle. You have seen the cattle, now you can see our children. Charlene is finishing off her 4th year in Kinesiology at the University of Regina and has done us super proud by making the Dean’s list this year. She has always had excellent marks but always just a couple away from making the dean’s list but she did it this winter. Way to go Chuck!

As for the youngest he is again away from home with hockey but now it is with the Edmonton Oil King squad that he can say he is privileged to be part of. It is quite the learning curve for him but he is working hard towards next year, when he is no longer the rookie or youngest defenseman so that he has more opportunity to play. We are proud of his accomplishments and hope that he can show them what he has to offer at this elite level of hockey. Way to go Chance we are proud of you!

Terms and Conditions of Sale Terms - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Double C Red Angus reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle.

Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Double C Red Angus reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, Double C Red Angus and sale staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and/or who has not made prior credit arrangements prior to sale with the owners and/or sale management.

Bid - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

Disputes - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Certificate of Registry - The proper registration or recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

Shipping - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but sale management or seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. Bulls can be delivered free of charge within reasonable distances so long as Double C Red Angus can do so within a day or two of required time, and notice is given in advance of the delivery date required.

Guarantee - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian Breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.

Exception to Guarantee - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the case of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian Breed Association Guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze.

Health - We ensure our bulls are semen tested and have passed all breeding health protocols.

Accidents - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, Auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.
