Voormalige Herald bestuurder skiet homself Die Herald het weer oor verskeie nuusgebeure in sy uitgawe van 20 jaar gelede berig.

Die liggaam van ‘n voormalige bestuurder van die Heraldgroep is in die badkamer van sy huis met ‘n skietwond in sy kop gevind. Mnr. Gerrie Wessels (45) se vrou Anne het omstreeks 14:00 op sy liggaam afgekom. ‘n Jaggeweer is langs sy lyk gevind. Mnr. Wessels het in September die vorige jaar, na twintig jaar ononderbroke diens by die Herald, bedank. Mnr. Wessels se loopbaan by die Herald het in 1975 begin toe hy as rekenmeester aangestel is. Sedert 1980 het hy die pos as finansiële bestuurder van die Potchefstroom Herald, Carletonville Herald, Vaalweek- blad en Newcastle Advertiser beklee. In 1992 is hy tot algemene bestuurder van die Heraldgroep bevorder. Hy was vir twaalf jaar ‘n direksielid van Capro, waarvan hy vir drie jaar voorsitter was. Hy was

baie nou betrokke by die gemeenskap van Potchefstroom en was onder meer ook betrokke by die Sakekamer, Toastmasters, Boskop Opleidingsgroep en die Kommando. Hy was voorsitter van die ondersteunersklub van die WesTransvaalse rugby-unie en het in die bestuursraad van Hoërskool Ferdinand Postma gedien. Mnr. Wessels is op 26 Januarie vanjaar, ‘n dag voor sy verjaarsdag, met Anne getroud. Die oorledene het drie maande gelede na Pietersburg verhuis waar hy as bestuurder van ‘n koerant aangestel is. Hy het na Potchefstroom teruggekeer en het vir die afgelope sowat twee weke by ‘n vervoeronderneming in die stad gewerk.

Lightning struck a tall fir tree in Oberholzer Street during the electrifying storm that hit Carletonville on Wednesday 6 March, and chunks of wood were sent flying in all directions as it split in half and crashed to the ground. Accor-

ding to Ms Ursula Glendinning of 30 Van der Stel Street, a thunderous crack of lightning struck the tree in her front garden just after 18:00.

Bits and pieces of airborne wood were hurled into neighbouring gardens. One large and dangerous looking chunk was found impaled in a section of the fence. Verskeie dienste, waaronder mediese dienste, etes en die was van klere en beddegoed, sal by die siekeboeg gelewer word, het hy gesê.

Well-known Carletonville resident passes away A well-known resident of Carletonville lost his battle with cancer during the past week.

According to his daughter, Bernice, Dennis Wood (47) was loved by many people in and around Carletonville.

He was an unselfish man who always put other people’s needs before his own.

He was born on 21 May 1969 and

passed away on Monday, 21 March.

Wood worked on Sibanye Gold’s Driefontein Mine for 20 years and was also a volunteer at the local Fire Station as a paramedic for many years.

Helping people was his passion and he never said no to anyone in need.

remarkable man,” his daughter says.

Wood leaves behind his wife Anneline, who stood by him since day one, his mother Elize, son Wikus, daughter Bernice, grandson Markus, and sister Sharon.

His funeral will be held on Thursday 24 March at 11:00 am at the Vole Evangelie Kerk in Carletonville.

“As a family, we would like to thank everyone for the messages, phone calls and prayers.

Most of all, a very special thank you to Liezel and Johan Lindeque,” his daughter added.

Robbers strike CNA

Wanted suspects

Kagiso Segone A business robbery took place on Emerald Street at CNA on 18 March around 09:30 in the morning.

One of the employees reported that she was busy inside the storeroom with the manager when the phone rang at the office and she went to answer it. When she tried to go out of the office she realised that the door was blocked by an unknown man who was carrying a firearm.

The suspect asked for the manager and the victim showed him where she was. Then two other suspects came in, with all the cashiers and ordered them to sit on the floor.

The manager told them that she did not have the keys to the safe. The suspects then ordered all the employees to enter the safe room. They then assaulted the manager. The safe door was apparently open and cash was taken.

The article of the rape incident was recently published. One of the suspects was a tall, light in complexion man who was wearing blue jeans, a hat with the word ‘Supreme’ printed on it,a

navy T-shirt and tekkies. The other suspect was a short man who was dark and he was wearing a black hat and a white golf T-shirt, navy trousers and tekkies as well as a dark cap.

The police would like to ask that anyone who can provide them with information about the suspects, contact the Khutsong Police Station.

Business continued at the CNA store shortly after the incident.

Three other suspects were traced and were also arrested in Westonaria. All the stolen property was recovered. The manager was released after being treated in hospital.

Kagiso Segone A young man was caught stealing from a house on Chrome Street in Carletonville on Sunday 20 March and was beaten by the community before the police arrived.

The suspect was passing by the house and noticed that there was a bakkie filled with groceries. He went into the yard to the back of the bakkie and stole a tray of eggs. The owner of the bakkie came out and saw the young man walking out of the yard with his eggs. He started chasing the thief who tossed the eggs when he realised that he was caught out. The man who was robbed went back to get his bakkie to try and find the thief. The suspect was caught around Carletonville High School (Callies) and taken back to Chrome Street where he was beaten by passing community members. The police were called and he was handed over to the police.

Man shoots himself and girlfriend Kagiso Segone A man shot his girlfriend and turned the gun on himself at Kokosi Township at Ext.4 on 6 March.

The Fochville Police received a complaint of a shooting and on arrival, a man was found dead in the street.

The man had apparently shot his girlfriend who was rushed to the Carletonville Hospital but she died on the way to hospital.

A case of murder is being investigated.

A man lost his tongue while attempting to rape a woman in Khutsong on 20 March.

The incident took place at shack 1802 at Sonderwater when the victim, who was from a tavern, went to sleep. While she was asleep she felt someone touching her breasts and private parts.

The suspect then sexually harassed the victim and when the victim tried to fight him off the suspect struck her with a fist.

Let’s talk about it- People must learn to love knowledge Kagiso Segone After a few interesting conversations that I had this past long weekend I was inspired to pass on some food for thought.

When communicating with someone who reads motivational books, you realise that there are people in this community who put effort in developing themselves. I therefore would like to encourage people to take charge of their lives by striving to improve themselves.

New information is food for the mind - just as food is important for the body.

I have noticed that people who inform themselves are more courageous than those who choose to

stay ignorant. This boils down to the fact that knowledge is power and no nation can truly prosper without knowledge.

That is why I believe that the whole concept of education must be re-introduced in an attractive manner. People need to know that education is about receiving and transferring information and empowering oneself holistically .

We must find a way to inspire young people to love learning. School should be inspiring, not boring. We as young people should feed our minds with positive information.

Stop wasting time on social networks and utilise your internet access to gather and read some useful information. Let us use our resources for

our own benefit as well as to the benefit of our communities because if you have information you can always share it with those around you.

We must get into the culture of sharing knowledge with our community because “each one must teach one.”

People have not realised that the more you give, the more you receive.

Being greedy with information means that you deprive others from growth.

Knowledge must be shared because it is food for thought.

Let us be kind and learn that information is not for one person.

Let us take the initiative to read as well as share what we read with others. Love knowledge!

On my mind - Choice - Chance - Change Sipho Mashaba Every day we are faced with choices to make, from what we want to wear, eat, etc.

Some of us choose to go to varsity and some choose to work. Some plan their lives and some just wait for life to happen. Others take risks and chances to see whether the grass is truly greener on the other side.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t.

The question remains though:

which of these roads will change your life for the better? We never know.

If we took risks when we were younger we felt that there was still a lot of time to recover.

Each decade of life gets us a little more entrenched in how things are, and not necessarily a view to how things could be.

Those who really know me, know that I like change.

I always reflect on the choices I made and the risks that I took. I try to see if what I did really challenged me and if it fulfilled me in any way.

It is just way to boring and easy to accept things the way they are and think that it will always stay the same.

I think it is important to continually re-evaluate your circumstances.

Think about all the choices you have made in your life - the important ones.

The biggest risk in life is not to take one.

You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.

5. Die vraag wat sekerlik die meeste geopper word is watter tipe groei of opbrengs so ‘n plan bied. Hierdie spaarplanne het nie oral dieselfde opbrengs nie. Elke belegger het steeds ‘n keuse in watter beleggingsstrategie die geld

Rubbish and weeds upset, block graveyard Adele Louw Residents of the informal housing area next to the old Khutsong graveyard as well as those with family members in the graveyard are currently facing various headaches.

This area has for some time been one of the dirtiest in the area because the Merafong City Local Municipality does not supply dustbins to residents.

Al-though the municipality has indicated in the past that it considers such informal housing areas to be only temporary, some residents have been staying in shacks in the area for more than 20 years. As a result, many of the yards in the area are well-kept, with several having neat vegetable gardens.

Woman arrested after robbing man Kagiso Segone A robbery took place on Sunday afternoon 20 March when a woman robbed a man at the Carletonville taxi rank.

The victim alerted the Gladiator security guard who was from the Choppies shop near the taxi rank.

The woman apparently held a knife against the throat of victim and threatened to slit his throat. Then she took his cellular phone and wallet and fled. She ran into Onyx Street towards Annan Road after which she ran to a veld across Merafong Motors while she was chased by the security gu-

All the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.

Man found dead at shaft in Doornfontein Kagiso Segone The unknown body of man was found at Shaft 02 in Doornfontein at Carletonville on 1 March.

The victim was found by someone who works at the shaft.

He was going to fetch water at a small cemented dam when

found the victim floating on the water, facing upwards.

The man who found the body also saw a wire with a ring at the other side of the dam and it looked like it was used to strangle the victim.

The deceased was in his late 30’s and was wearing a Bafana

Bafana T-Shirt.

The decomposed body was covered in flies and there were also blood stains on the ground leading to the place where the body was found.

A case of murder was opened and investigations are still in process.

Open Day at new Eden Village clinic Human rights must be looked after Despite the fact that Human Rights Day was celebrated on Monday, many people in our area still do not enjoy their human rights.

The importance of human rights has an international and national background. In 1948, the United Nations defined 30 articles of human rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It established universal human rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice, and peace. South Africa has included indivisible human rights in our own Bill of Rights, which is contained in Chapter 2 of the Constitution.

Although International Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December every year to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations, Human Rights Day in South Africa is historically linked to 21 March 1960, and the events of Sharpeville.

On that day 69 people died and 180 were wounded when police fired on a peaceful crowd that had gathered in protest against the Pass Laws. This day marked an affirmation by ordinary people, rising in unison to proclaim their rights.

Despite the fact that human rights are considered so important, many people of the area still do not get the full benefit that is offered by legislation. In this week’s newspaper there are reports of various crimes and problems that affect residents in such a way that they seem to have no rights. Just during the past week some people were killed while others live in such horrible conditions that their right to a healthy life is taken from them. In another story a young man has not been paid for his menial government job.

In many of these incidents the government, although it is supposed to protect people, actually strips them from some of their rights. Until such issues have been sorted out, the true meaning of Human Rights Day will not be experienced by all.

On Friday, the 18th of March, people gathered in front of the Carletonville Civic Centre to walk to the New Clinic in Eden Village in Carletonville.

People from all over the Carletonville area participated in the walking to celebrate the New Clinic that has opened in Eden Village.

As the people were walking to Eden Village, they were singing and dancing along the way.

They were also accompanied by traffic officers to keep them safe. On arrival at the Eden Village, Ms Mbandiwe Madosi, an acting Merafong area manager, presented the purpose of the day and the keynote address where she gave some background - that the Ideal Clinic Programme was launched by President Jacob Zuma on the 18th of November 2014.

This initiative seeks to transform all public sector clinics into Ideal Clinics which provide good quality care to all our communities.

Perfection is the goal of God’s work in us BibleStudyTools Most of us understand the concept but have a hard time envisioning anything truly perfect. Everything in our earthly experience is flawed, imperfect.

And for those who know and love the Lord, the imperfections we are most deeply aware of often tend to be our own. I’m not speaking of the frailties of our bodies - though we feel those all too well. But the imperfections that trouble us most are not that superficial. The real problem is a sinfulness that comes straight from the heart (cf. Mark 7:21-23).

Of course, we have a tendency to

be more tolerant of our own imperfections than of the failings of others. We try to cover for ourselves, but in our hearts we know all too well that we are woefully and sinfully imperfect. What Christian cannot echo the sentiment Paul expresses in Romans 7:24: “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

We’re not alone in this. The entire universe suffers the effects of human sin. Paul also writes, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now” (Romans 8:22). That’s why all we can know on earth is imperfection.

All creation agonises under the cruel effect of sin’s curse, waiting for the

consummation of all things, when the curse will be finally removed.

At that time, everything will be perfect. Pain, sorrow, and the groaning of creation will finally be no more. “The ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10).

Not only that, but we shall be gloriously perfected. The whole person— body and soul—will be made completely new, flawless. As the apostle John wrote, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when

he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).

Heaven is a perfect place for people made perfect. Perfection is the goal of God’s sanctifying work in us. He’s not merely making us better than we are; he is conforming us to the image of his Son. He is making us fit to dwell in his presence forever. The utter perfection of heaven is the consummation of our salvation. It is the purpose for which he chose us before the foundation of the world.

Government intern not paid for a year Adele Louw A young man from Khutsong has not been paid despite working on a government internship since last year.

Mr Nkosinathi Mtambo (23) is a very disappointed young man. After hearing from a neighbour about a government internship programme and submitting his CV for this in September 2014, he was officially taken up in the National Youth Service (NYS) programme last year. During this programme, the national government gives young people internships at local municipalities.

According to Mtambo, he, as part of this national programme, started with an internship at the Merafong City Local Municipality’s ICT (Information Communications Technology) department in April 2015.

Mtambo told the Herald he had pro-

blems getting his payment since the first month that he started. Although other youngsters who are part of the project also did not get paid at first, their problems were sorted out.

Despite continuous attempts to get help from the organisers of the project, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and pleading for help from the municipality’s Youth Coordinator, Mtambo has still not been helped.

He tells that at one stage he and another intern travelled to Johannesburg to sort out the matter. According to Mtambo, officials sorted out the other intern’s problem after seeing that he was disabled. Up to now, Mtambo and his mother, Ms Winnie Mtambo, have been trying in vain for him to get paid.

“I do not know what to do because my contract will be finished at the end of next month, without me even receiving

Wescol students protest against campus matters An SRC member reads the memorandum out loud

Kagiso Segone Students from Wescol staged a protest relating to various campus matters on Thursday 10 March.

The students gathered near Carletonville Hospital at 10:00 and marched to the Wescol premises to hand over a memorandum to the principal. The SRC (Student Representative Council) is demanding the immediate removal of the campus manager and those who paid their fees last year are demanding to be reimbursed. Among the grievances that the Wescol SRC listed in the memorandum is that students have been denied access to, and utilisation of, college facilities such as the college hall. Another gripe is nepotism, with the memorandum pointing out that four members of the same family are

working on the campus.

According to the document, college sanitation is not up to standard and the bathrooms are filthy. This, it says, poses a health risk to students.

Pensioner bugged by sewerage problems Adele Louw A pensioner and her family are struggling in vain to get assistance with the sewerage system at their home.

According to Ms Ruth Mfulu (59), of 4473 Kyalethu Section in Khutsong, she currently has a huge problem with the sewerage system at her home. Every time someone flushes the outside toilet in their yard, sewage pushes up

through the drain pipe connected to the toilet in the family’s house.

It then spills into the house and yard. The inside toilet was built by Mfulu’s late husband in 2010. It has, however, never been completed and is for this reason not being used by the family. According to Mfulu and a family friend, Mr Phillip Mathopa, who also visited the house at the time of the Herald’s visit, Mfulu as well as her

neighbours have been struggling with sewage overflowing in their yards recently.

“When the neighbours flush, the sewage also leaks out in my yard,” Mfulu complained.

As a result, Mfulu contacted the Merafong City Local Municipality about the problems last week Wednesday.

Although municipal workers came out, they did not solve the pro-

blem.“They said the yard was dirty from the sewage. They did not explain what was going on. They just left and did not come back,” Mfulu lamented.

As a result of the problems, the Herald contacted the Merafong City Local Municipality about the issues on Tuesday. CONGRATULATES ITS 2016 COMMUNITY INTERNS According to the National Development Plan (NDP), education, training and innovation are central to South Africa's long-term development. They are core elements in eliminating poverty and reducing inequality, and the foundations of an equal society.

Education empowers people to define their identity, take control of their lives, raise healthy families, take part confidently in developing a just society, and play an effective role in the politics and governance of their communities.

In 2011, AngloGold Ashanti in consultation with its stakeholders reviewed its approach to socio-economic development of its communities which led to the 2010-2014 and the current 2015-2019 Vaal River and West Wits Operations Social and Labour Plans (SLPs) which have since been submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources for final approval. The SLPs cover projects in our host and major labour sending areas such as Local Economic Development which included the building of additional classrooms, libraries, Science Laboratories, Community Halls, Agricultural projects and Community Human Resources Development Programmes; Enterprise Development initiatives such as the establishment of the Enterprise Development Centres and financial support for SMMEs; and the Social and Institutional Development programmes such as support for NGOs, orphanages, the elderly and Mandela Day projects.

As part of its Socio-economic Development Framework, the Community Human Resources Development Programme (CHRDP) comprises, inter

alia, additional classes for Maths, Science and English, Career Expos, Learnerships, Internships, Youth Portable Skills, Nursing Learnerships and Bursaries to learners who pass their Grade 12 with a bachelors exemption from any of the schools in the host (Matlosana and Merafong) and major labour sending areas (Eastern Cape).

Internships are opportunities offered by AngloGold Ashanti to potential candidates in possession of a three- or four-year diploma or degree from a recognised institution of higher learning, who are from our host and major labour sending areas. AngloGold Ashanti provides the Interns with work exposure opportunities for a period of twelve months to gain work experience, insight and knowledge in their field of studies or qualifications obtained. Na 21 jaar is Petrus steeds ‘n staatmaker Adele Louw ‘n Werknemer by ‘n besigheid in Fochville is na 21 jaar steeds hard aan die werk.

Petrus Vermeulen het 21 jaar gelede sy eerste werk by Corries Upholsterers begin. Anders as baie ander mense wat tussen besighede rondskuif, werk Vermeulen egter steeds by dié onderneming.

Volgens kollegas is hy baie nederig en stel homself altyd as die tweede kind, die oudste seun, van ses kinders voor.

Hy is baie trots op sy werk en mense vra spesifiek dat “Cowboy “ die werk moet doen. Sy pa het hom “Presies “ genoem, want alles moes presies reg wees.

Hy skuif selfs agter die naaimasjien in as nodig mag wees. Daar is niks wat hy nie kan doen nie.

“Hy het al van ‘n “kickbox” materiaalmannetjie, mynsakke, gordyne, lap, seile, gewigte vir fisioterapie en van af-

dakke tot ‘n doodskis gestoffeer. Jy noem dit en hy doen dit. Hy diens ook die naaimasjiene self. Hy is ook nie lui as dit by pa-wees of man-wees of selfs mentor vir sy ander twee broers kom nie. Hy sal sy hande stukkend werk om sy jongste broer te help om sy vliegopleiding te voltooi.

Hy is plumber, krap self in motorenjins rond en kan ook bouwerk doen. Hy doen ook enige staalwerk en sy hande staan ook vir niks by die huis verkeerd nie.

“Wanneer iets breek dan sê sy kinders “pappa kan dit mos regmaak”. Sy vroutjie, Rachel, het ‘n troukoek-besigheid en self daar sal hy soms inspring en help,” vertel sy ma.

Volgens haar is hy ook die brein agter die besigheid en was in al die jare ook net vier keer siek, waarvan een keer was toe hy geopereer moes word.

Die ander drie kere is hy huis toe gestuur nadat hy siek by die werk opgedaag het.

“Saam met my, sy ander broer Corrie en die werkers bou hy voort op dit wat sy pa begin het. En ja, as ek eendag wegval, sal hy in elk geval aangaan met die besigheid. Ek is baie trots op my seun. Ek dink hy is ‘n voorbeeld vir baie jongmanne,” het sy bygevoeg.

Khutsong poet live on air at Merafong FM Kagiso Segone Jimmy Dawethi is a 24-year-old poet as well as an actor from Khutsong Township who was at Merafong FM to present his poetry on Saturday 19 March.

The poet was born as well as raised in Khutsong and he is a member of the Bleed-To-Lead Theatre Organisation. He was inspired to venture into poetry by his director, known as Phakamile and he began writing in 2011.

He has since performed his poetry at the Shashalazi Theatre Programme, Soweto Theatre and Market Laboratory in Johannesburg. He has also won an award in poetry at an Art Festival which took place at Orange Farm in 2013. Jimmy uses his poetry in his native language Isixhosa as well as English to express himself and to communicate to society. “I use poetry to heal myself spiritually as well emotionally,” Jimmy said.

He would like to become internationally recognised through his arts and

he encourages young people who love poetry to live poetry first then to love it by being passionate and committed.

“Poetry is my life and it is also my calling as I would like to use it to make people find themselves,” the passionate poet said.

SAPS medal parade Kagiso Segone The SAPS cluster hosted a medal parade on Friday 18 March at the Civic Centre.

The event started with the SAPS band and followed with a church service where the word of God was shared. According to the Carletonville communications officer, WO Peter Masooa, long service medals were awarded to members who have been in service for 10, 20 and 30 years. Other medals were handed to officers who worked during the 2010 World Cup Tournament.

Big regional AA rally in Carletonville next weekend Adele Louw The Carletonville and Westonaria branches of the AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) are planning a huge regional rally for the first weekend of April.

The rally will take place at Carleton Jones High School on 2 April and will start at 09:00.

While AA or NA members will have to pay a R30 entrance fee, visitors and new-comers can attend for free.

“This is the first time that such a big event is planned so far west of Johannesburg.

There will be four panels of speakers throughout the day and each panel will have four speakers,” one of the event’s organisers, Mr Nico Kotze, told the Herald on Tuesday.

According to Kotze a countdown will also be held during which the person who has been sober for the longest time will receive recognition.

People from the AA’s head office in Bedfordview will also be attending the event and will, amongst other things, sell literature. As the AA has a rehabilitation centre in Westonaria, members of this club might also be able to share information about the work that they do there.

Kotze added that the Carletonville AA/ NA (Narcotics Anonymous) branch still meets on a weekly basis on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:00 at the offices of the SAVF (Suid-Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie) in Uralite Street in Car-

letonville. He says that there is a huge need for assistance with alcohol abuse.

People often stop him in the street to get information about the organisation, even if it is to get help for family members in other areas.

Pastor allegedly exposes witchcraft in Khutsong South Kagiso Segone A local pastor allegedly found a number of muti items in a house in Ext. 4 that he had prophesied about earlier.

Bishop Tefo Jonas Pitso from the Jehovah Sammah International Ministries (Dikakapa) was talking on a radio show at Merafong Fm on 10 March when he announced that witchcraft was taking place at a specific house in Khutsong South. The pastor, who is known for revealing witchcraft practices, invited church and community members to accompany him to the house and witness the ‘cleansing’. He said he was going to reveal things that had been hidden in the house to bewitch the family. Upon his arrival, the owner of the house was introduced to the pastor and told him that she had been experiencing problems.

He said items had been placed in a shack at the back of the yard to curse the family and that he was going to remove them. Before starting, however, he addressed the crowd that had gathered in front and told them that something was going to happen. While

he was praying, a woman fell to the ground and the pastor told his associates to look in her bag for a snake that she was carrying. When the bag was opened, insects came out and the pastor explained that the snake had turned into insects.

He also prophesied that there was a woman who was attempting to commit suicide at a petrol station in Welverdiend and instructed his associates to go and rescue her while he prayed for the woman on the ground.

After a phone call to the pastor, his associates found a woman in a red shirt in a toilet, just as he had said. She had apparently taken pills and appeared weak and disoriented.

They took her back to the house in Ext. 4 to meet the pastor. He prayed for her before proceeding to the shack where the muti items were believed to be hidden. He instructed some of the men to remove a panel so he could get in and told them to look under the bed.

They found a plastic bag containing used sanitary pads. The pastor prayed for the owner and told her that she needed help. Before leaving, the pastor

told the next door neighbour that something had also been placed in his house. The two went to the house and

the pastor instructed the man to search his house. The man found old bloody underwear on the property.

Carletonville church gives to the poor Kagiso Segone The Carletonville Gospel Believers Church gave away free groceries to the poor on Sunday 20 March.

Guests that were present were Warrant Officer Eddie Boboko as well as Constable Ntombizonke Dyosini and the Herald was also invited to the event. Bishop Chernet Samuel who is a general secretary of the Gospel Believers Church head quarters based in Johannesburg was present and gave the congregation a message about the importance of giving. The congregation consisted of Ethiopian Church members as well as needy members from communities such as Khutsong, Wedela and Kokosi.

The aim of the event was to fulfil the church’s purpose and to pray for life as well as South Africa. It was also aimed to reach out as the church is commanded to help the needy and

poor. The church which consists of more than 75 branches across the country, highly encourages other churches to give. They also plan to give away to the poor annually as they did the same on 13 July in 2015 at Diepsloot township. In their quest to do good they have also managed to build two houses in the Umthata branch. “The main purpose is to give and show the love of Christ as Christ compels us to share,” expressed the bishop. The bishop would like to share verses from the Bible to encourage the community to give, such as Isaiah 1:17 “Learn to dwell, seek judgement, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widows”, 1Timothy 5:8 “But if someone doesn’t provide for their own family, and especially for a member of their household, they have denied the faith. They are worse than those who have no faith,” The choir of the

church sang during worshipping and then groceries were handed out to the needy.

The needy group of community members stood in front of the church with their groceries and some of the emotional individuals expressed their gratitude to the good Samaritans.

Hierdie soort water moet egter byna onmiddellik gebruik word, en mag nie gestoor word, omdat bakterieë daarin gedy. Gewoonlik word dit as drupbe-

sproeiing vir die tuin aangewend. Die meeste gryswater bevat stowwe soos nitrate en fosfate, wat standaard bestanddele van baie soorte kunsmis is, en in klein hoeveelhede is dit nuttig in jou tuin. Dit is egter raadsaam om organiese seep wat nie fosfate of nitrate bevat nie, te gebruik ter wille van die hergebruik van jou gryswater. Die nutsmanne kan maklik self ’n organiese gryswaterfilterstelsel ontwerp. Dit bestaan uit ’n put waarin gryswater vanaf die huis loop, en verder perkoleer deur ’n stel organiese filters wat ’n mini-ekostelsel vorm.

Kom ons besef hoe kosbaar water werklik is, en hou op om soos ’n volstruis kop in die sand steek en te reken dit is buite ons beheer. Enige vorm van watervermorsing vandag spreek van kortsigtigheid, oningeligtheid en ongesofistikeerdheid. Om water te bespaar is ons enigste vooruitdenkende opsie.
