(CHHCI) employees must adhere to all infection control standards per Center of Disease Control (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines. All CHHCI employees must comply with infection control techniques used in the home and implement infection control standards including proper hand washing techniques, use of protective gloves, gowns and masks, appropriate disposal of contaminated equipment such as dressing, needles, syringes, razor blades, disinfecting reusable equipment and disinfecting environmental surfaces and reporting of communicable diseases. Procedure DEFINITIONS OF BLOOD AND BODY SUBSTANCES Any moist substance from a client's body, Bloodborne pathogens are bacteria and viruses that live in blood or other body fluids. Bloodborne pathogens can live in blood, semen, vaginal fluids, saliva, sweat, urine, spinal fluid, stool, tears or vomit. MANDATORY PREVENTATIVE MEASURES WHEN DEALING WITH CLIENT'S BLOOD AND BODY SUBSTANCES 1.

Blood and body substances Mucous membrane Non-intact skin Items or environmental surfaces soiled with blood or body substances When performing venipuncture and other vascular access procedures

All skin and environmental surfaces must be washed immediately and thoroughly if contaminated with blood or other body fluids.

Reusable equipment must be disinfected after each use.

4.

Hands must be washed after each client contact.

5.

Hands must be washed immediately after removing gloves.
