I took my the Minimus to San Sebastián, Basque Country. I was worried about the pavements and whether they’ll be prepared for scooters. I was very surprised and I was able to see the whole city and I also saw a lot of other people with scooters.

More than ten years ago, Joanne was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Determined to stay as active as possible, Joanne and her family visited their local CareCo showroom on a mission to replace her outdated scooter with a more modern, comfortable and convenient model.

My life changed in the way that I couldn’t walk as far”, Joanne says of the impact that MS has had over the years. “I used to be an avid walker, which is a real disappointment to me because I can’t do that now, but I want to do as much as I possibly can.”
Of the utmost importance for Joanne, then, was upgrading from her cumbersome old mobility scooter to a model that would fit into the boot of their car. Having heard of CareCo through family friends, Joanne and her family headed off to their local showroom. After being shown a handful of scooters that matched Joanne’s wishlist, they decided to plump for the X-Go Astro. “We had a test drive in the store and saw how easy it was to collapse it and put it in the boot of the car, and that was easier to do than with my old scooter.”

So, as long as your disability or longterm illness qualifies under the scheme, you don’t have to pay VAT on these products.
What counts as a long-term illness or disability?
For VAT purposes, you are disabled or have a long-term illness if:
• you have a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon your ability to carry out everyday activities.
• you have a condition that the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes.
• you are terminally ill.
You don’t qualify if you are elderly but otherwise able-bodied, or if you’re temporarily disabled. You don’t have to physically buy the goods in person. If your parent, guardian, wife or husband buys the goods and services for you, then you will not be charged VAT.
How do I purchase zero-rated VAT products?
When you place your order, we’ll ask you to make a legally binding declaration about your illness or disability, that we may be required to provide to HMRC. In completing this form, you are declaring that you are claiming VAT relief under Group 12 of Schedule 8 of the Value Added Tax Act 1994.

Celebrating an incredible year of work in the name of Macmillan
Throughout 2024, CareCo has helped to raise money for Macmillan, a cause near and dear to our hearts. As a company, we’ve supported 8 colleagues living with cancer, and we’re incredibly proud to continue fundraising for such an incredible charity.
In the last year, we’ve done everything from walking the Jurassic Coast for their Mighty Hike initiative, to hosting Coffee Mornings across our showrooms and holding a charity gala with all proceeds going to Macmillan.
We started off our efforts this year with a walk across the Jurassic Coast as a part of Macmillan’s Mighty Hike iniative.
We were picked up from our HQ in Braintree wide-eyed and tousle-haired at 05:00am on a Sunday morning and made our way to the Jurassic Coast to begin walking alongside 500 other people!
Many of our team lapped the earlier walkers to make it to the first pit stop at 7 miles, where we were given cereal bars, fruit and nuts, and squash to keep us going. We managed to get up the steep slopes of the cliffs while wallowing through mud!
Our efforts trekking the Jurassic Coast helped us to raise an amazing (at last count) £7929.00, and we plan to walk the Yorkshire Dales in June for the 2025 Mighty Hike!

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is one of the most wellknown awareness campaign, and it’s a lovely chance to bring people together to raise money, drink tea and scoff some cake.
Held over a two-week period, our collective efforts spanned across all company showrooms and offices, bringing together employees and customers to support Macmillan. Our employees baked a number of tasty treats across our sites and showrooms and we raised another £1,000 for Macmillan taking our total close to our target of £10,000 for the year!
We also held raffles across the country, increasing our donations from both staff and customers.

Charity Gala Dinner
In November, we rounded off our year of Macmillan support with a charity Gala dinner, held at Channels Golf Club in Chelmsford, Essex. This was a chance for everyone to have dinner, enjoy a dance or two and win some amazing prizes!
We managed to raise over £4,000 on the night, and with the ticket sales that increased to over £6,000. Our evening started off with a wonderful speech from our Chairman, Malcolm Harrison. Malcolm’s speech introduced the evening, of course, but also served as a reminder of the incredible work Macmillan do.
We’re so proud of all our teams who have made a real impact in supporting Macmillan’s vital work, helping those affected by cancer get access to the valuable support they need. Altogether we raised an impressive £16,000!

It’s ideal if you live in an upstairs flat or apartment, would struggle to lift heavy boxes or parts, or just want to make sure your product is correctly assembled and safely installed.
On your delivery day, the engineer will arrive with your product and make sure everything is just right. They’ll show you how everything works, including how to charge, assemble and disassemble your product. If you’ve got any questions, our engineer will be happy to answer them.
And they’ll even take all the unnecessary packaging with them when they leave. It really is as simple as that.
Where products are particularly tricky to put together, Home Installation will be provided free of charge. You’ll see these products listed with Home Installation included.
The standard charge for Home Installation is £60. Extra items can be added for just £30 each. Please note that Home Installation deliveries are sometimes carried out by a third party.

Our large items are, well, large! So we ask one of our specialist delivery partners to deal with all the heavy lifting for you. This is a 2-man room of choice delivery service and it includes:
• SMS and email updates to keep you in the loop from the moment you place your order to the day your product is delivered.
• A 2-hour delivery window with a courtesy call 30-45 minutes before our delivery partner arrives - so you won’t be waiting indoors all day.
• Delivery of your product to a room of your choice, up a maximum of 3 flights of stairs.
• Your item can be unboxed, but for extras like assembly, demonstration and the removal of packaging you may want to consider our Home Installation service.
• For next day deliveries, orders made after 3pm will be delivered within 1-2 working days.
• Next / specific day delivery is only available on items in stock at the time of purchase.
