Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is a special time for the whole nation – across our care homes, Care at Home offices and Assisted Living properties we will be celebrating with Food, Fun and Friendship.

We have put together this Special Jubilee Edition Newsletter, packed with fun, so whether you are a resident, Care at Home client, relative or a friend, we hope you and your family enjoy this booklet during the celebrations.

No matter what age, food sets the rhythm of the day for everyone. At Care South we understand the importance of healthy, fresh produce. We take pride in sourcing, where possible, ingredients from producers local to our homes.

Our care homes aren’t about fancy Michelin-starred meals – rather, our chefs cook fresh, quality meals that look great, taste even better, and are based on what residents in our care enjoy.

We focus on the overall dining experience in our care homes, as meals are more than just the food on the plate – they bring people together. Want to catch-up with friends over a Sunday roast? Not a problem. Rather eat breakfast in your room?

That’s OK with us.

Good nutrition and hydration are vital parts of the care we provide, which is why we produce homely and enjoyable food that supports the health and wellbeing of residents.

Ingredients:

4oz unsalted butter, softened 4oz granulated sugar 4oz dark chocolate 1 egg Icing: 8oz dark chocolate Decoration of choice Method: 1.

Lightly grease a 6-inch diameter, 2½-inch deep cake ring with butter and place on a sheet of parchment paper on a tray

2.

Break the biscuits into small pieces and set aside

3.

In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until the mixture starts to lighten in colour and texture

4.

Melt the 4oz of chocolate and add to the mixture, stirring constantly

5.

Add the egg and beat to combine

6.

Fold in the biscuit pieces until they are all coated with the chocolate mixture

7.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared cake ring. Try to fill all of the gaps on the bottom of the ring because this will be the top of the cake

8.

Chill the cake in the fridge for at least 3 hours

9.

Melt the 8oz of dark chocolate over a low heat. Remove the cake from the refrigerator and let it stand, then slide the ring off the cake and turn it upside down

10. Pour the melted chocolate over the cake and smooth the top and sides using a palette knife. Leave to set 11. Carefully run a knife around the bottom of the cake where the chocolate has stuck and lift it onto a serving plate 12. Decorate and enjoy!

We put residents in our care at the heart of everything we do, and know that they are all unique. We get to know residents and their life stories, hobbies and interests, helping us to create events around their likes.

No two days are the same in our care homes. Our Activities Teams promote variety in their engaging activities programme, whether it’s a pamper day in the salon, reliving cherished memories, getting active, or welcoming special guests, entertainers and performers.

You may even want to slow the pace down and spend an afternoon in the sunshine, reading a good book with a piece of homemade cake and a cup of tea. While we put together activities schedules to provide structure and something to look forward to, we are also flexible around you – after all, it’s your home and your life.

Royal facts & figures • The Queen has sat for over 200 official portraits during her reign • Her Majesty has owned more than 30 Corgis and Dorgis during her reign, most of which have been descended from her first Corgi, Susan, who was a gift on her eighteenth birthday • As British passports and driving licences are issued in The Queen’s name, she is not required to have either – a privilege held by her alone • The Queen speaks fluent French and has often used the language during audiences and State visits • At least 35 countries have issued coinage with the image of The Queen • The Coronation ceremony was the first to be broadcast on television – 27 million people watched in the UK alone, and television was ushered in as a mainstream medium • On 26th March 1976, Her Majesty sent her first email

• In 1966, The Queen presented England football captain Bobby Moore with the World Cup Trophy.

The World Cup Final attracted the largest ever British television audience with 32.3 million viewers • The Queen is better travelled than any British Monarch before her. Within the Commonwealth alone, she has made over 150 visits during her reign • Her Majesty has hosted 112 incoming State Visits to the United Kingdom • The greatest number of countries that The Queen has visited in one trip is 14. This was during her 1966 trip to the Caribbean.

• Many of The Queen’s official tours were undertaken on the Royal Yacht Britannia. She was launched by Her Majesty on 16 April 1953 and was commissioned for service in January 1954. During her time in service, Britannia travelled more than a million miles on Royal and official duties, transporting The Queen on over 700 Royal visits
