Riesling Around the World
Riesling is a cold-hardy white grape suited to cool to moderate climates. Its high acidity and susceptibility to botrytis make it ideal for wines at all sweetness levels. Globally, Riesling is made in diverse styles.
As an aromatic grape, Riesling produces wines with pronounced fruity, floral aromas and high acidity. Flavour profiles vary with grape ripeness, ranging from dry to sweet, light to full-bodied. It is well-suited for late harvests in dry, sunny autumns.
Germany
France
Riesling is Germany’s key grape, especially in the Mosel region. Here, wines are typically light-bodied with medium sweetness and very high acidity. Top vineyards lie on steep, south-facing slopes by the Mosel River, benefiting from stony soils and reflected sunlight.
Australia
Australia’s Eden Valley and Clare Valley produce premium, dry Rieslings with
Alsace Rieslings are dry with intense aromas, ripe citrus and stone-fruit flavours, medium body and high acidity. The best wines come from grands crus vineyards. Some sweeter styles are made
New Zealand
Cool-climate New Zealand, particularly Marlborough, creates Rieslings with crisp

HEGGIES VINEYARD
ESTATE RIESLING 2022

Region:
Eden Valley, Australia
Vinification:
Made from hand-harvested Riesling grapes in Eden Valley, this wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve its vibrant fruit character and freshness. Unoaked to retain natural acidity and showcase the region’s distinctive minerality.
A vibrant Riesling with aromas of green apple, lime zest, and citrus blossom, offering a crisp palate of lemon curd and slatey minerality balanced by natural acidity.

DOMAINE WEINBACH RIESLING 2022

Region: Alsace, France
Vinification:
Gently pressed in whole clusters in pneumatic presses, fermentation with indigenous yeasts (element of the terroir, enhances depth and complexity in the wines) in old oak vats.
Delightful at the nose with aromas of white blossoms and notes of lime. Shows a fine, delicate entry and a nice concentration mid-palate. Offers a wonderful combination of crisp granny smith apples and a fine minerality. Juicy with a long lingering finish.
GREYWACKE RIESLING 2022

Region:
Marlborough, New Zealand
Vinification:
Hand-picked at moderate ripeness, the grapes were whole-bunch pressed with minimal maceration. The juice was cold-settled, then split for fermentation: half in stainless steel with cultured yeast, half in old French oak barriques with wild yeast.
A vibrant off-dry Riesling with florals, red apple, cranberries, and lemonade on the nose. The silky palate reveals nectarine, mandarin, and lemon blossom, lifted by a racy acidity and hints of vanilla and star anise on the long, complex finish.

DOMAINE ZIND-HUMBRECHT
RIESLING ROCHE GRANITIQUE 2022

Region: Alsace, France
Vinification:
Grapes from granite soils were hand-selected from various vineyards. Fermentation was slow due to high ripeness and low nitrogen levels, a common 2022 issue. Some wines required early racking and refreshing of lees to aid fermentation. The wine was matured on fine lees and finished fully dry before bottling in January 2024.
Bright yellow with a pure, mineral-driven nose dominated by granitic notes and subtle citrus. The palate is elegant and textured, with medium acidity balanced by ripe saline and mineral elements. Dry, expressive finish.

DR. LOOSEN URZIGER WURZGARTEN RIESLING 2020

Region:
Mosel, Germany
Vinification:
100% Riesling (120 year old ungrafted vines), hand picked from a single "Grand Cru" (Grosses Gewachs) vineyard, fermented in large neutral oak barrels and aged 12 months on lees without battonage.
Blood orange and pink grapefruit, distinctly fragrant. In the mouth there is an enormous amount of mineral extract, polished acidity, the sweetness remains defensive, the finish reveals aromas of stone dust and spice box, cumin and allspice, but in a youthfully reserved state.
MARKUS MOLITOR
WEHLENER SONNENUHR AUSLESE 2017

Region: Mosel, Germany
Vinification:
Hand-picked in October, 100% healthy grapes were gently crushed and macerated on skins to extract aromas and minerals. The must underwent slow, cool spontaneous fermentation, followed by gentle aging on lees to enhance complexity.

The 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese shows ripe lemon, grapefruit, and slate on the nose. Lush and elegant on the palate, it's dense yet finely racy, with Eiswein-like precision and freshness.
