2014-2015 REPORT OF GIFTS

“At CCA, the opportunities for us to speak up and voice our opinions have taught us to have confidence in our ideas and minds, which is a skill that we will all carry into the next phase of our lives.” — Katie Bailey ’15 Commencement Speaker

FROM THE BOARD CHAIR Looking back on the 2014-2015 year, we recognize that welcoming Tom Trigg as Acting Head of School was an event that stands out not just because of the unusual nature of a mid-year leadership shift, but because of the way our school community came together to help support our new leader. The board and I want to thank you for your active participation in helping our school move forward last year. As a community, you were generous with your patience as we made the transition in leadership, with your understanding as we worked on improving communication, and with your contributions as you helped us relaunch our annual fund in late spring. The 2014-2015 school year saw the introduction of two new programs for our students; service learning in the middle school and entrepreneurship in grade 9. We continued our commitment to the Speaker Series, hosting educational programs and speakers for the school and local community. Lower School students in our Lucy Calkins reading and writing program created page after page of their own writings, and the Class of 2015 had outstanding school acceptances as a result of their hard work and the strong preparation they received. This past spring I completed my term as Chair of the Board of Trustees. It has been a great honor to serve CCA over the past two decades as a parent, board member, volunteer, and most recently Chair. I feel privileged to have worked with outstanding board members, faculty, administrators, and parents to help build our school. Thank you to all members of our community who have supported the school in one way or another, joining together to help continue to move CCA forward. Sincerely,

David McGraw, 2nd from right, was celebrated this past spring for his exemplary service to Cape Cod Academy, serving on the board in several capacities for over 20 years. REPORT OF GIFTS

July 1, 2014- June 30, 2015 Each year, as we put together our Report of Gifts, we are deeply inspired by the generosity of our CCA community. In 2014-15, even with a deliberate four-month hiatus in fundraising following the leadership transition last winter, your giving set new records!

• 96% of the Class of 2015 gave to the Annual Fund. • 10% of you gave twice during the year to show your support. • 53% of you increased your gifts over 2013-14. • Giving in May and June increased by 300% over those same two months in prior years. • Your contributions built the largest Annual Fund to date. • Total contributions increased by $100,000 over the previous year. Annual Fund Fund A Need Special Gifts * Total

$359,918 $ 32,735 $291,932 $684,585

Thank you for believing in our school. And thank you for understanding that without an Annual Fund, CCA would not have the faculty and programs that create the transformational experience for our students. *Special gifts include a bequest from past parent and Life Trustee Joanne Chope Corsiglia, restricted program support, and scholarship grants.

Robert J. Smith, Jr. Heritage Society – Generous Bequest

An extremely thoughtful, wise, and long-time benefactor of CCA, Joanne Chope Corsiglia P’86 who passed away in July 2013, left a generous bequest to the school. Joanne asked that CCA use her unrestricted bequest in a fashion that would best serve our students and school. We are grateful for her generosity which helped launch the Service Learning and Entrepreneurship programs.

In addition to the Annual Fund, CCA sometimes receives gifts to help with specific programs. Last year, a donor generously supported our sailing program with a significant gift to help purchase new boats. When our sailing program began, it was funded entirely by contributions. Today, the annual fund helps support all athletics, including the sailing program.

FOUNDERS SOCIETY It is with deep gratitude that we thank our many donors who joined the Founders Society with leadership contributions of $500 or more to Cape Cod Academy. Many of you increased your support for CCA in 2014-2015, often with multiple gifts to our school. This demonstration of renewed confidence and belief in all we do for our students enabled us to provide strong programs and excellent faculty which, together, build a transformational educational experience for our students. Our Founders Society Committee parent volunteers, Michael Benoit, Caroline Blauer, Holly Hoyt, Tom Shanahan, and Jeff Stoner gave much of their time to reach out to parents to seek their leadership support of our annual fund. We thank them for their dedicated help with this effort. Included in these giving levels are gifts to the annual fund, athletics, financial aid, Fall Fling sponsors, and Fund A Need.

In an effort to recognize our young alumni supporters, CCA has established the Seahawk Society. When alumni contribute to our school, they are not only sending a powerful message of thanks to their faculty but they are helping to uphold the school and programs which touched their lives. The Seahawk Society recognizes alumni who give within these categories: graduates from past 9 years with gifts of $25-99, and graduates out 10-15 years who give $100+ Thank you Seahawk Society Members! FUND A NEED

Thank you to our many donors at Fall Fling 2014 who supported our Fund A Need Program! It was exciting to see the many hands shoot up to make bids toward funding an activity bus for field trips, activities, and athletic teams. We raised $32,735 toward Fund A Need.

SETTING A NEW STANDARD TO CHALLENGE ALL ALUMNI — 96% PARTICIPATION BY THE CLASS OF 2015! The Class of 2015 has done something extraordinary for CCA. They have committed to helping and supporting their alma mater now and into the future. Their dedication to CCA is best summed up by excerpts from senior Cam Gardner’s touching commencement speech. Class of 2015 Annual Fund Gifts

“Each year at Cape Cod Academy, the graduating class leaves a gift to the school as a token of remembrance, pride and appreciation of our experiences. When our grade discussed a gift, we had a difficult time; we could not find one gift that we felt fully represented our grade and our appreciation. The Class of 2015 decided to leave a lasting influence for future generations and alumni who might like our example and take initiative also to reconnect and be dedicated to the growth of CCA. Our gift to CCA: to remain connected to the school and to come back for annual dinners, pledge to the Annual Fund this spring and commit to keep supporting the school in the future. For now, it isn’t a lot of money-- maybe it’s going without a pizza or two each year--but the donations add up for CCA. When the Class of 2015 thought about the countless hours teachers spent teaching and pushing us when we encounter a seemingly impossible challenge…. it is easy to agree--we want the future classes of Cape Cod Academy to have the same experiences. The tremendous amount of support from our peers and leaders, the overwhelming sense of community and having the ability to grow beyond bounds, make CCA the unique school that it is today. CCA alumni, it is our job to protect, support and appreciate the school that has made us into mature, respectful and curious people that we are today.” – Cam Gardner ’15

GIFTS IN KIND Each year, Cape Cod Academy is the fortunate recipient of a number of gifts in kind – gifts that help the school by providing items that benefit a program or event. We would like to thank the following donors: Mr. and Mrs. William Bailey/VolunteerSpot Lou Barnicle Graphic Design Ms. Kara Burke Mark Cote/Cote Photography Fancy’s Market, Osterville Robert Greer, Electrician Mr. Michael Kayajan ’95/Vermont Pure Water Mr. Scott Samuel Sunderland Printing Dr. J. Young Frankenstein was a fun-filled spring musical performance, bringing Mel Brooks’ humor to our stage. Students had a fantastic time with this hilarious comedy, delivering lines that drew endless laughs from the audience. Earlier in the year, our Drama Club gave an outstanding performance with their presentation of Two Tales -Rumplestiltskin and The Lady or The Tiger during our winter drama season.

Kara Burke P’20 donated this beautiful birdhouse in honor of the Class of 2020. It’s nestled within the cluster of pine trees outside Davis Commons.

Isabelle Lifton ’19 and Rebecca White ’16 had fun playing varsity basketball last season. A successful athletic program isn’t just about winning seasons. It’s about the teaching and learning that occurs when young people work together toward a common goal. We are proud of our teams and coaches for their achievements last year including five Sportsmanship Awards and two Coach of the Year Awards!
